We, and our neighbors, wanted to hire the same company to fence each of our back yards. We received quotes from several companies and opted for SPFence. The estimator, Steve, is a character. He showed up at our house unannounced and gave me a 2-minute sales pitch because I was on my way out. I was ready to write them off because of this. Lucky for them, our neighbor's friend, who had used SPF at two different locations, recognized Steve and told our neighbors how great the company was to work for. That recommendation is why we chose them. They were able to install the fence way sooner than any other companies could, by weeks. They were 2nd cheapest quote I got, but they offered better materials for price (Cedar vs Treated Pine). Scott took the time to explain everything. Wait time was bit long though but worth it. f I could give SP Fence a negative-5 star rating, I would. Aside from the fact that Scott, the salesperson, was gentlemanly and helpful, every aspect of the project was a catastrophe and their sloppy workmanship continues to cost me time and money 8 months later. 1) They started the job on a Thursday 6/18/20 and had failed to coordinate inspection with the Village of Itasca for the post hole inspection. The inspector was unavailable until the following day 6/19/20, and according to SP's "project manager", Vladimir, the crew was not available to finish the job on Friday. They left 42" deep post holes uncovered with no protective barriers or safety measures at the end of the day with no intention of coming back until the following week (see the photos, this is actually how they left the jobsite on 6/18 at a household and neighborhood with small children everywhere.) The next day I demanded that someone come out and cover the holes while the project lingered over the weekend, and they were reluctant. Fortunately, when Scott came back to review the situation on Friday 6/20, the village inspector was here and shared my dismay. The inspector demanded the holes be covered AND that the yard was cordoned-off with yellow safety tape. 2) During the poor start of work on 6/18/20, they immediately struck Comcast's data line to my house (which was clearly marked by JULIE), putting my wife and I out of business for nearly 4 days while we dealt with Comcast repairs. 3) The fence install did not follow the logical layout or the layout we agreed on with regard to post locations and run lengths. Thankfully they messed up the inspection timing which allowed me to intervene and correct them on how to run the sections. 4) They ultimately did offer a minimal discount for the inconveniences, ineptitude, delay, danger, and Comcast interruption. We accepted it to move on with the project and complete it in the interest of having the fence completed safely. However there are multiple scratches, dings, improper install of the post caps, rubbing of the gates on both sides of the yard, and other quality problems. Just a totally substandard job. 5) Nothing is like working with a company who exercises lax control on their data! We are still getting emails with fraudulent invoices and payment demands from these people! 6) Fast-forwarding to 1/21, we have intermittent electrical phase drops at our residence which ComEd has traced back to damage by SP Fence which they attempted to cover-up. ComEd is working with us to resolve these problems, but it is yet to be determined if there is damage to our AC, range, and other appliances that run off 240V. Avoid these people at all costs. I looked at several other companies' installs before I selected SP Fence, and from what I saw they had done a nice job on other installs in our area. Bad things happen and we understand it. But EVERYTHING is wrong with this job and SP was not a partner in making it right along the way. read more

SP Fence was fantastic. Steve came out and did our estimate, and went over all of the details and options we had. We went with a 6 ft arched privacy fence, treated pine. However, after getting our permit denied due to being a corner lot, we had to slope the fence down to 4 ft for part of it, but they made it seamless. Steve came back out to re-do our estimate and make sure everything was compliant, and our estimate actually went down. We had a lot of fencing and their quote was the best we got. On installation day, the workers showed up around 8:30 am, and finished by 7 pm which we thought was impressive. We had 250 ft of fencing and they took down and hauled away the old fence. I had four different quotes for the same style of fence completed and SP Fence beat out all of the competition. They were also really great with a last minute issue that come up with my HOA, the fault laid with my HOA, and not SP fence. Even still they were willing to change where the fence was going to be installed on the day of the installation. Scott was our point person for our fence and he was fantastic, answering all of my questions and even putting up with me calling him every 10 minutes while I was dealing with my HOA. We also had a gate installed on both sides.
