I did not have a good experience with the massage at all. First of all our timing was changed last minute because a therapist called out. they charge customers if you cancel last minute so that was quite aweful Considering I travelled 2 hours to go there to meet up with friends. Was not offered any compensation for it but after calling and having the manager "review" it they offered 15%. Massage I got was a bespoke massage. Service is quite expensive compared to other massage places and gratuity automatically gets charged. I asked the massouse to "go heavier" and he did not. It truly felt like I was getting lotion rubbed on my body rather than a massage and I work out 4x a week so I was really looking for more pressure. Service at the front desk was not friendly/no smiles just very cold Front. Do not think I'll be going back there again. read more

Great services! I would highly recommend the soak after a massage. However, the other accommodations were lacking. The relaxation room was extremely small and the locker rooms only had one bathroom and one shower with no changing room. The sauna was at the end of the hallway with a glass door so it was uncomfortable to relax with people staring in. And it was a little noisy .. there was no door between the receptionist and the long hallways so it was hard to separate yourself and relax while listening to the music. I would definitely return, but would be more aware of the lack of relaxation room read more

This place requires that you verbally give all the details of your credit card to the receptionist in order to book a service, even if you're staying at the hotel. It is absurd and insecure to demand your customers give that info verbally to a person. They could easily go shopping online with your card as soon as call ends.. I can't believe that in today's world of data theft that a business still requires their customers to potentially expose their credit info to a receptionist that you've never met. Talk about an outdated process! If you want to steal the credit card info from thousands of people, get a job as the receptionist at Spa Fjor!!! read more

At the time of booking 2 massages I was never asked if myself or my partner had a preference for a man or woman, nor were we consulted with on it upon checking in for the appointment (30 min prior). When it came time for the massage there two male masseuses and my partner was not comfortable with that arrangement. Instead of being treated respectfully, he was reprimanded (saying that it was discriminatory for him to refuse to be touched by a man) and payment was demanded. The massage was already paid for via Travelzoo so the woman at the front desk took his credit card and charged gratuity for a massage he never received. Frankly, it was a terrible customer experience and the woman made assumptions about my partner without considering why he may not be comfortable being touch by one gender vs. another...a choice that EVERYONE should be provided when it comes to a massage. read more

We often visit the Viking hotel, especially during the 4th of July. Every time we visit we mention we must try the spa. For a siblings birthday we all decided to treat ourselves for a Spa day. The spa itself from the reception, locker rooms to the massage rooms were immaculately kept. Everything felt clean, relaxing and inviting. The plush robes they provide keep you feeling fabulous. My masseuse was excellent and very receptive to my feed back. That heated table was magic! My only gripe regarding upkeep is the pool and hot tub (included with the spa and yes I know its free). The area itself is a bit dirty and dated. Maybe it's time for an upgrade. Also, this automatic spa gratuity business doesn't sit right with me. A gratuity is a gift that a customer gives to a person providing a service, a special thank you. It's supposed to be above and beyond that which is required for said service, and by making the gratuity automatic, the system falls apart and makes the customer -- at least when that customer is me -- angry. If I receive the worst spa service of my life, am I then supposed to give an additional 18%? I strongly suggest have this removed as standard practice at your spa. read more

We bought a travel zoo certificate for 3 services, massage, facial and pedicure. You start out in the changing room, which is a little bit cramped, there were 4 of us in there and it was pretty crowded. They bring you to the relaxation room where you wait for each service. I made sure to tell the spa multiple times that I was pregnant, so you can imagine my shock when Patrick, the masseuse said "You're not pregnant are you?" When I told him yes I was he was really irritated and said "well no one told me, I'm going to have to sideline you." I reminded him that I told the spa when I booked my service that I was pregnant, and again he said "well no one told me, you never know who you are going to get and I am going to have to sideline you." I have no idea what sidelining means so I was thinking I was going to have to skip the massage. He then went off super irritated and said he had to set up the room so I could get a massage on my side. Not exactly a relaxing way to start a massage. The pedicure was lovely, but the best service was the facial, she was amazing and did an excellent job helping me relax.They tell you what you owe for tip at the end and luckily they did not make me tip the masseuse. I would have been aggravated if I paid full price for this service, but I guess that's what is good about travel zoo/groupon! read more

This place is not what it used to be. I used to love the massages and overall experience and have referred many people here. I feel the need to leave this review as my last TWO experiences have been horrible. I actually took over a year off from coming here because I was so disappointed but decided to give them another try. The last time I was here I booked a deep tissue massage and I literally could not even feel the massage the pressure was so light. Most recently I booked the mother to be massage as I am 5 months pregnant. I specifically requested that I not have the same massage therapist as last time as I actually wanted to feel the massage. I arrived and my therapist thought I was getting a totally different massage, had no idea I was pregnant never mind how far along I was. He then had to take time to get the table set up correctly which ended up coming out of the time of my massage! It was supposed to be a 50 minute massage (for $135) and I ended up getting a 44 minute massage because of his mistake. Absolutely unacceptable! The first 20 minutes of the massage there was a constant buzzing noise in the room (named tranquility ironically) and after complaining twice he said that he knew it was annoying and finagled around with something to get it to stop. I also find it extremely shady that he put a towel over the clock so I would not know what time the massage ended however I moved the towel as I was curious to see if I got the full 50 minute massage. Needless to say I was not happy. I said something to the therapist when I left the room about how it wasn't fair that my massage was shortened by 6 minutes due to his mistake and his response was "oh ok". In addition the gratuity is automatically added to their services so you can see why they don't care at all.. they still made their 20%. For the price you pay there are way better places to go. No need for me to drive 45 minutes for a crappy expensive massage anymore. read more

We were staying at the Hotel Viking so I booked a last minute gel manicure at their spa. I go regularly in the NYC/ Hoboken areas and am used to great service, vibrant atmospheres, and reasonable prices. While the technician was decent, the room was sterile and there was no one else there getting a manicure. It was a bit awkward to be honest and the manicure itself was just ok. Then at checkout I find out that they charge more than twice (!!!) the amount as my usual salon (which is phenomenal!) They also add 20% tip on the service regardless of asking how the service actually was. Thumbs down. read more

I love SpaFjor! I have been coming to this quaint, relaxing, and clean spa in the historic Hotel Viking for 9 years. I typically get a pedicure, and I am never disappointed. Rebecca, who is a veteran manicurist, and has been working at the Hotel Viking for years, is absolutely wonderful! Not only is she a careful, detail oriented manicurist, but she is a joy to be around. She's just a lot of fun! Today, I spent the day getting a manicure, pedicure, a 30 minute session the the infrared sauna, and even got a glass of champagne to celebrate my birthday. It was the most wonderful day! I started off with a session in the sauna, which is located in a private room above the pool. After a good detox, I rinsed off in the shower area, which is spacious and clean. Rebecca then helped me pick out colors for my manicure and pedicure. She has a good eye for knowing what colors will look good with different skin tones. She helped me pick out a color I never would have tried myself - a deep gray for my fingers, and a sparkly gray for my toes. My manicure was lovely! Rebecca took time to massage my hands before painting my nails. The pedicure was even better! I love that their pedicure chairs have a back massager, and the hot pillow around my shoulders made it even more relaxing. Rebecca made sure that the temperature of the water for the pedicure was comfortable before she started the treatment, and made sure that my champagne glass was topped off. I told Rebecca that my feet are sensitive so she made sure to be gentle when she scrubbed the calluses off. She also gives a wonderful foot and lower leg massage. My pedicure came out beautiful! Every time I come here, I always have a great time and leave relaxed and happy! Yes, it is more expensive to get a manicure and pedicure at SpaFjor, but you get what you pay for. The spa is quiet and relaxing. It does not smell of acetone like strip mall nail salons, and it is much cleaner. And you get to leave with the bottle of nail polish that you chose, which is great for touch ups. I highly recommend getting nail treatments at SpaFjor! read more

To be completely honest I will not be coming back to the spa ever. I spent a lot of money for the Day of Bliss package. It included a massage, a facial and a body wrap. The way they booked my appointments I did the massage first then the body wrap and finally the facial last. The massage felt rushed and at time was too hard but the massage therapist was amazing telling me if there was a a knot and was working it out. THEN the body wrap with body scrub. I will never be getting this treatment again. Nothing was fully explained to me and I was supposed to take a bath with rose petals. There were no rose petals and the water in the bath tub was so hot I had to run the cold water. I was so upset because afterwards my underwear was ruined because all had to cover me was a folded pillow case to cover up my private area and the massage therapist was male. My skin felt so oily and I had to then go get my facial. Definitely a mistake on the person making my appointment I would have rather had that treatment last. And finally the facial she was so incredibly rough and never explained anything to me while doing treatments even though I specifically said I've never been to this spa before. And while she putting oil on my face she pulled it all the up to my hair. I have never had to take a shower a facial but my hair was so greasy from the multiple oils I couldn't even leave the spa looking like that. So I had to wash my dyed hair twice that day all because of a facial. And afterwards I wasn't offered champagne just water. The least that they could do was give me some champagne. The only reason why I gave this review two stars instead of one is because everyone was complimenting my skin. So needless to say I wasted money on this birthday gift to myself and I should have just treated myself to a new purse instead or just gone back to massage envy again. read more

The "Balinese" Massage at SpaFlor, Hotel Viking was amazing! My mother and I spend an hour with two very experienced Massage therapist. I had John and my mom had Ray. We both felt amazing. One of the best massages that I have had!. We both agreed that they were so professional and most importantly... quite (which is the best way to experience a massage). The people that work at the desk especially Jessica was very friendly and knowledgeable about their spa services and there were no surprises. It's what you would expect from a five star hotel.
