While on vacation in Round Rock, we decided to treat ourselves to a spa day at Kalahari. We booked two 50-minute relaxation massages with the warm Himalayan salt stone enhancement and were pleasantly surprised that they were able to accommodate us in the same room for a couples massage. The women at the front desk were friendly, welcoming, and informative. The spa slippers, robes, and lockers were all very convenient. I also appreciated how well-stocked the locker room was with large towels, tampons, shower caps, combs, hairbrushes, toothbrushes and toothpaste, blow dryers, changing areas, showers with body wash, and other essentials. The only thing I think they could add is small hand towels for guests who may need them. We really enjoyed all of the spa amenities, including the relaxation lounge, pool, jacuzzi, and both steam rooms. The massages were relaxing, the warm Himalayan salt stones were absolutely AMAZING, and the soothing music created a peaceful atmosphere. I also loved that the relaxation lounge had comfortable areas where you could even take a nap. The reason I'm giving four instead of five stars is because of a few service issues. Although our massages were scheduled for 2:00 p.m., we weren't taken back until well after our appointment time. We also weren't given the opportunity to choose our preferred massage oil because the selection wasn't fully stocked. My massage therapist asked about my problem areas but didn't focus on the areas I mentioned. Finally, it didn't feel like we received the full 50-minute massage. By the time we returned to the locker room, it was 2:55 p.m., even though we weren't taken back until after 2:00 p.m. The setup process--including selecting oils, getting settled on the table, and preparing the warm towels--also took about 10-15 minutes, which seemed to cut into our massage time. Would we return? Absolutely! Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would definitely come back. Next time, we'd probably try different massage therapists, explore other massage options, choose different oils, and add a few more enhancements to make the experience even better. Forgot to add... I definitely recommend visiting on a weekday for lighter traffic, easier parking, and better pricing. We went on a Thursday, and it was perfect--we were able to enjoy all the amenities without having to wait for anything. Since we had dinner reservations afterward, we didn't get a chance to try any of the food or drinks. However, we did appreciate the complimentary water available in both the relaxation lounge and the jacuzzi area. Keep in mind that the jacuzzi area is shared with all spa guests, so be sure to bring a swimsuit, coverups, wear your robes, or other appropriate attire. Overall, it was a great experience. We each enjoyed an 80-minute facial, and I want to be fair: the lounge, locker room, amenities, and the actual facial services were lovely. Unfortunately, the experience at the front desk completely overshadowed what should have been a relaxing and luxurious spa visit. The check-in and check-out experience was awkward, frustrating, and, frankly, incredibly disappointing. At checkout, one of us realized that she had misplaced her cell phone and asked the female clerk at the front desk if anyone had turned in a phone. The immediate response was simply, "No." There was no offer to look, no attempt to help, and no mention that the spa had a lost-and-found area. What happened next was even more surprising. Almost immediately after dismissing our question about the missing phone, the clerk asked what gratuity we would be providing to the esthetician. We were stunned. A guest had just told you she had lost her cell phone, and instead of offering even the most basic assistance, the focus immediately shifted to collecting payment and gratuity. There was no, "Let me check," "Have you looked in the treatment area?" or even, "We have a lost-and-found box." There was also no question about how we enjoyed our services or whether we had a good experience. And this wasn't a situation where the front desk was overwhelmed with guests. There was no one else at the counter besides the two of us. Ironically, before leaving, we were able to use the phone's "Find My Phone" sound. Lo and behold, the phone was under the front desk counter, inside the lost-and-found crate. So I have to ask: Did either clerk offer to look for the phone? No. Did either clerk tell us there was a lost-and-found box? No. Did either clerk make any effort to help us locate it? No. The phone was literally sitting under their counter. The esthetician who provided our facials was wonderful, and the spa facilities themselves were beautiful. Unfortunately, a luxury experience is about more than the amenities. Customer service matters. The interaction with the front desk staff was so lacking in courtesy, warmth, and basic human concern that it completely changed how we felt about the visit. A spa should feel relaxing, welcoming, and luxurious from the moment you walk in until the moment you leave. Instead, the front-desk experience felt transactional and dismissive: pay, tip, and move along. For a resort that presents itself as a luxury destination, this level of customer service is simply not acceptable. The facilities and treatments may be nice, but the spa experience as a whole is not luxurious when the people representing the facility make guests feel ignored and unimportant. I left extremely disappointed and would not recommend the Kalahari Resort Spa based on this experience. Management should seriously evaluate the front-desk customer service and train staff on how to handle guests with courtesy, empathy, and basic professionalism. read more

I recommend visiting on a weekday as the amount of guests was light. I personally visited on Tuesday, and you could count the amount of visitors. All the amenities were available at the time of visit. I opted in for a no chip pedicure that lasted the full service time. The service provider Marissa took her time with my service and paid attention to detail. Service menu items pricing are reasonable to the amenities that are included. The amenities (whirlpools, sauna, steam room) are shared across both genders, therefore a swimsuit must be worn at all times. Separate locker rooms though which include showers, restrooms, and dressing rooms. Food and drinks (alcohol also) are also available for purchase without leaving the spa area. read more

I decided to indulge in a little self care for my birthday with a spa day and I'm happy that I chose Spa Kalahari. The booking process itself is easy, though I wish there was better signage outside of the actual building so the spa entrance is easier to locate. The spa has it's own elevator and is separate from the water park so you don't have to worry about being interrupted by the sounds of the kiddies enjoying themselves. After checking in at the lobby desk, what was behind the doors took me by surprise. The halls are decorated beautifully with photos of African women and the perfect amount of lighting. Lockers rooms are separate but the main areas (relaxation lounge, hot tub, pool) are coed. The locker rooms were clean but a bit too toasty for me. I'd prefer there to be more air circulation. After changing into your robe you are instructed to wait in the Relaxation Lounge which has tea, water, fruits, and a variety of couches for you to truly relax. Be careful because you might actually fall asleep in there! I booked a facial and full body massage package. Both were amazing! The rooms have heated tables, relaxing music, and friendly workers. Whatever questions I had, they were able to answer with confidence and even offer alternation solutions. After my services I enjoyed a complimentary glass of champagne, I expected to do halotherapy since I thought it was free with a package however, it is only discounted. I plan to return to indulge in more self care and will likely check out the halotherapy. read more

Went here with my wife on a non-busy weekday. We booked our reservation in advance. The website was fairly easy to navigate and obtain a wealth of information to help decide what we wanted to do. Calling the Spa and getting clarification on some questions was also very helpful and worthwhile. The entrance to the Spa is very close to Kalahari's main entrance, so it didn't feel at all overwhelming to find it. Once you find it, you take the elevator to the only floor it goes to., and it's also your one way out (at least that's what it seems). After checking in, we were taken to another waiting area that was very soothing and intimate. Since we were good on timing, they called us almost immediately for our couples manicure and pedicure treatments. Unfortunately we were unable to stay to enjoy the included amenities. But when you spend over a certain amount for their services, it comes included with all-day use of their sauna, their heated indoor/outdoor pools. But we definitely will take advantage of that next time. The staff that did our mani/pedi were very friendly and knowledgeable about their line of work. They made our whole experience delightful and pleasant. They were very accommodating and sensitive to our needs. Overall, we were very pleased with our time there, and the amount of money we spent. I purchased the day spa access since there was no more spot for me. Discounted if after 3pm. It was on a Sunday when we came. I like the showers, quiet Lounge and the hot tub/dry and steam sauna area---you can order drinks in this area. Convenient to have all your orders get paid when you check out. There was a pool outside but I didn't try it out. Lovely time with the ladies. The area is coed but we have separate shower/bath rooms. Parking gets validated as part of the group perks. 50 mins Relaxation Massage lived up to its name! No doubt it was because of my massage therapist Roxy! Roxy asked and confirmed pressure and areas of focus with me prior to the massage and once to confirm pressure again in the beginning and from there I was able to RELAX. Because she listened, I was able to enjoy the massage without tensing up, escape thoughts, due dates, etc. and just BE. She got me physically and mentally ready for the New Year! Thank you! I used to go to this spa often and decided to celebrate my birthday here with family and friends this past Saturday. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. When we arrived, the front desk told us the spa was at capacity and we had to wait until people left. We eventually learned that if we booked a massage, we would be allowed in, so some of us did that. The massage itself was wonderful, but the spa experience was frustrating. My younger daughter and her boyfriend came after driving 45 minutes and she even took off work early to be with me. Sadly, they were turned away at the front desk, even though when I came out of my massage, the spa was practically empty -- just me, my friends, and a few other guests. My daughter was very upset, and so was I, because she missed the chance to celebrate with me on my 55th birthday. When I spoke with staff, they told me there was nothing they could do, yet they admitted that if she had booked a massage, she could have entered. This made no sense since there was clearly space available. To make matters worse, earlier in the evening, the spa bathroom was left in terrible condition (someone had gotten sick and it wasn't cleaned up promptly). Overall, I felt very let down. A place I used to enjoy did not make any effort to accommodate us, even on my special day, and my daughter missed celebrating with me because of their poor handling of the situation. I came in today, Monday for their $15 off nail services with complimentary access to spa amenities (Mondays for locals!). The pedicure I had with Joanne was amazing. She is truly talented, very caring, and deserves recognition! They don't have as many colors as full on nail salons, but I was able to easily choose a color that I loved. The pedicure was 50 minutes and included high quality exfoliation, scrub and massage. It was well worth it for $55. I also paid $25 as an add on for their halotherapy/salt room and it was very relaxing. There was a mixup at the front desk in regards to the locals deals they have which was a little frustrating. Roxana, who seemed to be the manager, insisted they did not have such a deal where on Mondays for locals, there is $15 off nail services with complimentary access to spa amenities. I had to pull their website up on my phone, and I would expect a manager to know of the spa offerings. Nonetheless, everyone was really sweet and accommodating, and despite the mixup, they still deserve 5 stars :) It would be nice if the day pass included access to the salt room, or access to a non-heated pool. I'm pregnant and wasn't able to enjoy most of the spa amenities, and think that if I weren't pregnant, a day pass for $75 wouldn't be worth it for the sauna, steam room, and jacuzzis. I got a facial today and the esthetician was very nice but why are we using rough exfoliants on our faces in 2023? She assured me that all their products were "organic" but they were so heavily fragranced I felt nauseous by the end of my facial. I looked at what she used afterward, because I wasn't presented this beforehand, and it was strawberry rhubarb. It was very much giving Claire's at the mall. I needed to go rinse my face immediately after my facial because I smelled like a Bath & Body Works vomited on me. So much was used, I had the pink goo IN MY EARS. We were told we could come and go all day until 8pm. We left at 1pm to go get lunch upstairs at the resort. We were asked to leave our locker keys at the front desk when we exited the spa, sure. I got a call less than 30 minutes later accusing me of leaving without paying. Not only did these folks have all my belongings, including wallet, in the spa locker but they also HAD MY CARD ON FILE! I was told we could come and go until 8pm?! They also did not provide us with slippers until explicitly asked twice. I'm not sure if that's standard here or just the gal we got. Either way, icky. I'm very upset that I paid $160 for this joke of a spa. I would have a better time at a nail spa in the area. read more

Enjoyed a very relaxing day at the Soa within Kalahari. I arrived around 11am to book a massage, the place was empty at that time but started to get busy within an hour. I booked the Relaxation Massage which was really nice. You are given a key to a locker to place any of your personal items. The locker also contains a robe for you to use during your stay. The masseuse was very good with asking about how the pressure was and making sure I was comfortable. If you book at least a 50-minute, you are also given access to the Hydro Escape, which includes a hot tub, dry sauna room, wet sauna room, and outdoor heated pool. The Hydro Escape room can also be purchased separately as a day-pass ($45). The spa staff were very nice, and came around often to ask if you needed anything. read more

I have been here 3 times in the last four months. The first visit --- the salt room was not really working. I did not complain I just noted not to ever book it again. This last visit the steam sauna wasn't working. The one place I was so looking forward to relaxing in. It was functioning but not really any steam. I asked politely to two people who gave me the same "rehearsed" line that it was on a timer. First, most all steam saunas are on a timer. Second, I have sat in over 100 saunas I think I can recognize when one is not up to par. When I checked out i was informed I was not the only one who complained. I understand that sometimes things break down. My complaint is that they knew this and did not inform me when I was booking my treatment. If you know part of your appeal is the amenities it is good business sense (and considerate) to inform the people when booking. Honestly, I would not have booked. It is unfair for them not to tell the patrons. The staff that do the treatments are very nice. And their service is great. However, I would like to get what I expect unless otherwise informed. I was very disappointed in my experience with my 6 year old daughter. When I called to book our sessions, I added halotherapy since that was the only other thing I could do with my daughter. I also knew that I could only have spa access with a $75 purchase so I added it so that I could change out with my Mother and sister to get the full experience. When I checked in, they sent us to the relaxation room and never gave me a locker. I went back to the front desk to find out what was going on and they sent me back inside saying that they would investigate. They then told me that the person who took my reservation over the phone never added it. They didn't have it available for right after my service but they told me that it would be complimentary if I came back. I then asked about getting a locker and they said they would check but I never heard back before my daughter and I were taken back for her togetherness package and my pedicure. I asked our nail technicians about it and one of them checked and got me a key to the locker. They were really nice and did a wonderful job for my daughter and I. I went to the locker to find out it didn't come with a robe or spa slippers. I was very frustrated. After everything I went to the front desk to apologize if I seemed upset and explained that I was expecting to switch out with my sister and mother so I could get the full spa experience. She apologized and said that doing the halotherapy add on did not count for the minimum of $75 and that I should have been told when I made my reservation. I wasn't told and I was just so frustrated with how my experience was so I just left. I would never come back in future Kalahari visits since I feel like they didn't really care and we were more of an afterthought since we already made our appointment. This spa is amazing. A bit pricey as it's part of the waterpark resort. The Himalayan salt room was amazing and relaxing. Due to Covid it is only occupied1 at a time. I recommend making an appointment. Thankfully there was an opening right when I went in so I was able to have that. Because it was a very slow day at the spa the receptionist allowed me to use the rest of the spa including sauna, steam room, private hot tub and outdoor heated pool (which I did not use because it was too cold out) at no additional charge! So nice and relaxing. The staff was very helpful and kind. I have sensory issues so the waterpark is too loud and bright for me but the spa was the perfect getaway for a busy stressed out mom of two! I only gave 4 stars because last time I came in I went for a couples massage and specifically requested a girl for me and guy for my boyfriend. Somehow the guy was assigned to me and the girl assigned to my boyfriend. I wasn't uncomfortable with him having a girl, but more me having a guy. It was an awkward ask to switch, and I hope in the future there can be a note written down when I explicitly request who goes to who. Other than that, the atmosphere is very relaxing, water is very warm, and the bathrooms are super nice and stocked with things for the girls to take (brushes, toothbrushes, hair ties, etc). I stayed at the resort but also live in Round Rock and had a chance to buy a day pass which gave me access to the wet area, It is nice since you get away from the loud lobby and waterpark, but the space can get crowded so I would recommend going around 5 pm when the spa starts clearing out. They serve food and drinks which is pricey but convenient you just need to close the tab before you leave each time but they can save a card on your file to make it easier. Took longer than I wanted for the food to come out but the front staff were so nice and accommodating with any issues or concerns I experienced. They had great service and attitude compared to other spots in the resort. Definitely worth checking out if you want to spoil yourself. Next time I'll schedule in advance since their appointments get booked pretty fast. read more

Had a massage and manicure. First off, my husband and I were surprised when two men came to give us our couples massage. We prefer female masseuses but we went with it. The man that gave my husband a massage had bad calluses so it felt rough rather than relaxing for him. For me, the man didn't seem qualified at all. Couldn't get the pressure right and didn't cover areas I requested. Also tried bending legs in a very awkward way that wasn't comfortable. Manicures were better as far as the techs went but polish was cheap and old. Chipped days later and when I tried to remove it altogether, my nails were stained. Overpriced and don't offer the simplest of comfort such as a warm neck wrap or serving a free beverage. Their relaxation room was lame- felt more like a doctors office with a self-serve keurig. Spent Saturday at the spa with a few girlfriends. They had massages, facials - I had a pedicure. The tech was a very nice lady who did a great job. My recommendation to management would be to create an experience for your guests...those things seemed to be missing, not just for me but my girlfriends as well. For example, even at my local nail salon they give me a neck warmer, complimentary wine, and they present the products they are going to use in a very beautiful way...usually a bamboo tray with a flower, small containers with potions etc. - always a delight to the senses. This spa didn't have any of the frills, which I would expect from a resort venue. Don't have to get too fancy - but at least do as good as my local stand-alone nail salon. read more

AVOID THIS SPA AT ALL COSTS! Scheduled a "no chip pedicure" ($90) about 5 days in advance. Couldn't print a confirmation and never received a confirmation email until the day before the appt. I get there 20 minutes before appt (as requested in email) and am sent to the pedicure room to wait where a couple other friends were waiting for me. 10 minutes AFTER appt start time, a girl comes in and asks if I'm so-and-so....I say yes. This is the same girl who has walked in and out of the room 4-5 times and has never said a word. She said ohhh I've been looking all over the spa for you! (I'm scheduled for a pedicure and IN the PEDICURE room the entire time. The front desk girls knew exactly where I was as well) She then tells me to pick out a color and move to a different chair and then asks if I have gel polish on my feet already. I say yes and she then says that taking off gel is an extra 30-minute service and will cost $35 and doesn't know if they have time to do it. Mind you, there is nowhere on the website when you schedule to add this to your service or that it is required (only a tiny comment saying "no chip" removal isn't included, not even called "gel" on there) This service is normally included in the new pedicure when you go to a regular salon and takes all of 5 minutes with no extra charge. So I ask her why it's $35/30 minutes (website says "no chip" removal is $20 and up-again, never referred to as "gel" and nowhere to add that service if needed). She says they don't use drills so they have to buff the gel polish out by hand with a file---an expensive hotel spa that overcharges doesn't use a drill in 2023??!! So, she goes to get a "manager" who's all of 20 years old, won't look me in the face, and offers absolutely NO resolution to this issue other than saying I can buy an express pedicure-25 minutes for $65- and just not do the polish. Which would have been fine but they were unwilling to even give a discount for only getting HALF THE SERVICE. They also told my friend that removal would be $35 then another $25 to put more gel back on...when the "no chip" pedicure is supposedly supposed to include gel polish! I asked for them to somehow make this right because there was no way for me to know this before appt, nowhere to add it in checkout, and no one called to ask if I'd need that service before the appt to make sure they had time to do it. My first time at Kalahari AND MY LAST. They then had the audacity to charge me for a $90 pedicure as a "no-show" after I let them know how unprofessional they were handling the situation and said I would take my business elsewhere (half the cost and NONE of the stress/struggle). The ambiance of this spa was amazing it was extremely clean, relaxing and peaceful. Now I know starting my review with positivity is a bit misleading with a low star rating. My facial and my massage were far from relaxing. Prior to my facial I was asked if I had any allergies or skin sensitivity, which I do. My skin is extremely sensitive and I am highly allergic to coconut. My facial was uncomfortable because my face was itching and burning the entire time because the facial specialist used EVERY product with coconut base in it. Now let's move to the massage. Top tier worst experience! I wanted a relaxing massage instead I got a "deep tissue" massage which consisted of my male masseuse digging into my back, hip flexors etc even after I expressed the pain level and you can feel how tense I was as my body tightened up because his tactics were extremely painful. Ending this experience I left more in pain than I did coming in. The receptionist Tyler was amazing! She made me feel extremely comfortable before meeting with our specialists for the day.
