I visit Spa Utopia quite often for therapeutic massage. Apart from once having my personal items stolen, I give Spa Utopia 5 stars for service but subtract 2 stars for the most glitchy, frustratingly slow online booking system EVER; it's like their server is an old Atari. Spa Utopia is trying very hard to give the most relaxing experience possible. They generally succeed, but it is important to give some thought to when you are visiting (weekend vs weekday), because they can get packed. It is not so relaxing to be crawling over fellow spa-goers to reach your locker. That said, the sauna and steam facilities are lovely, and my deep tissue massage from an RMT was *excellent.* Some of my fellow sardines in the locker room said that the North Van and Langley locations have all of the poshness and pampering, but with more space. If you need to be pampered and need some quiet and relaxation time, then Spa Utopia is for you. Here is how to get the best deal: go to Costco and buy their 100$ gift-card for a value of 125$. It is a high-end Spa/massage place with a salon inside Pan Pacific Hotel. There are snacks such as almonds, apricots, banana chips, dried cranberries available in the lounge area. There are lots of tables and chairs, comfy couches and a fireplace that creates a soothing and relaxing environment for you to enjoy your day there. Drinks are also available; tea/coffee/juice/wine etc. Their services are wonderful and provides pretty much everything you'll need; shampoo, conditioner, body wash, curling iron, blow dryer, shower caps, basic toiletries, sandals etc for your few hours stay there. They also have dry sauna, wet sauna, private room for bigger groups, double massage rooms, pool on the 8th floor in the summertime. Price is slightly higher than the usual massage elsewhere but you get what you pay for and its absolutely worth it. They also offer complimentary makeup as well. Make sure you book ahead of time for your massage/mani-pedi/facial appointment. If you want to avoid paying 30$ for parking, then sky-train is your next best bet (just get off at waterfront terminal station)! read more

I have visited this Spa Utopia location once every 4 - 6 months for the last few years. Appointments here are usually a treat for my mom and she has a favourite facialist, Robyn at this location. I'm fairly easy and am open to being scheduled with different practitioners as I've come for RMT, facial and mani/pedi treatments. Until recently, I never had a poor experience. My main issue: After booking a specific time to accommodate my mom's request to be paired with Robyn, we were disappointed to find that this was not noted anywhere on their system. The front desk even commented that they did not know who had made the booking. This is not the service that I've come to know at Spa Utopia and was disappointed. For me, I was particularly unhappy to find that my facial treatment (Valeriy.. sp?) had not removed all of the mask that she had used on both my face and upper chest area. Are the rooms too dark? I found that I had mask left on my nose, hairline and upper chest at the end of my treatment. In general, I'm willing to put up with the packed change rooms and busy waiting areas. But, the inability to meet my mom's one staff request, especially when we were flexible with scheduling, left a sour taste. Might be time to find a new favourite spa. read more

I came to spa utopia for a body wrap. I wasn't expecting miracles but I was hoping to look or feel a bit firmer before my beach holiday. I measure myself every week. And of course I measured before and followed every rule. In my service my measurements at the end showed that I had lost inches and I looked in the mirror and saw absolutely no difference. I thought OK I must be wrong but I got home and I had not lost any inches. I'm not sure how spa utopia runs this service but I felt extremely disappointed and it was the biggest waste of my money. Gave this place a second chance after a bad experience last year. Same old same old they messed up my service length and just simply asked "did you still want the service?" Well I'm here and I don't really have a choice since my service time cannot be extended as I booked in. A manager never came to try to fix the issue and nothing was done at the time of check out. A small discount or free candle or discount on the next service would have been the right thing to do customer service wise. This will by my last visit. read more

i was so lucky to have rec'd a gift card from a client to this place... i was SO overdue for a spa day... i got booked in for a design for U facial... i got there a little early since i heard there was a steam room and sauna to use.... sat in the steam room for about 10 mins... i need to get me one of these in my house..seriously...any stress you may have had will literally evaporate from your pores as you sit there in a towel and breath in that steam... if i didn't have to be in an appt in less than 15 mins, i would've stayed in there. got out there and took a quick shower to clean myself up. it felt like i was in a daze as i floated into the lounge area to help myself to some water and fresh fruits. i settled into a big comfy couch and soon Melize magically appeared before me to say she was ready for me. she guided me down many twists and turns to our room...the place is HUGE! the whole place makes you feel like you have stepped outta normal life and into another wavelength...of UTOPIA... =) Melize was fantastic...she adjusted my table until it was just right, explained to me what she felt was best for my skin after a careful analysis...and while i was resting under cool eye covers and my mask, she massaged my footsies...Bliss Bliss Blisssss.... my skin was GLOWING afterwards... and i floated back into the lounge where i enjoyed a flute glass of their signature rooibis tea and some more fresh fruit and nuts. i settled back into the big comfy couch and read a magazine before i finally got ready to leave. i got a little bit of a makeup touch up on my way out. unfortunately, the lady who did it wasn't the most pleasant.... she was rather on the dry side. but Melize's services was so darn good, i barely even noticed. i really really hope my friends will give me a g.cert. from here...like, on my bday?? ;) read more

I really enjoy this spa. The thing is, I usually drive up to Vancouver when I decide to visit..so after a three-ish hour drive (more like 2.25, but hey, who's counting?), the best way to start off your stint in the city is with a massage. But who wants to go into a massage after they're all gross from sitting down driving for hours? This is why I like this place--they offer a super clean locker room with showers (fully stocked with skincare products), so that you can freshen up before moving into your spa treat of choice. It's so nice to have this option. The massage therapists are also very good at their work, and you can opt to have a light meal in a serene little dining area afterwards as well. Pricing is comparable to that of spa services in the states, and parking is underground (under the Pan Pacific Hotel). read more

This review is strictly based on one experience I had with the front desk clerk Joanna A. When it came time to paying for my service and my mother's service (RMT messages), she was extremely unprofessional and rude. First of all she did not smile, make eye contact or greet me, she looked very irritated as if she did not want to be there or assist me with processing payment. I asked her a question about providing me with the first and last name of mine and my mother's RMT as it is needed when submitting the service to extended health. She heard me which was 100% clear; however, chose to ignore me and proceed to do something on the computer. The transaction was complete at this point; therefore, I am unsure of what urgently required her attention that she could not respond. Therefore, I followed up with, well... are you going to answer my question (this is after a long pause). She exhaled and looked at me with an irritated look that resembled "what". At that point, her colleague stepped in as it was clear her colleague could see the unprofessionalism of Joanna and answered my question. This unfortunate terrible customer service experience greatly impacted my relaxing spa experience as I was completely baffled that someone who works at a SPA could be so rude. It was difficult, but I chose not to directly speak to Johanna about my experience as I did not want my mother to be aware of this and have her experience impacted as well. I did speak to the manager the next day. She was very apologetic and extremely empathetic which came across as genuine which I appreciated, she thanked me for calling in to discuss my experience. She did further say that she will provide coaching/re-training regarding hospitality with Joanna A (as it is clearly, much needed). I was not looking for a complimentary service or anything of that nature as the service is what I come for, not the freebees as that will not change my experience; only the service will. I was satisfied with our conversation; however, it would have been nice to have be offered an extra glass of complimentary wine on my next visit or a complimentary visit to the pool (something small) given how the experience I had ruined the great day that I had. As I do plan on returning once a month, I will ask to be assisted by someone other than Johanna as I do not want to take a chance on experiencing the same experience again....There is no guarantee that coaching or re-training will work. read more

They gave me a bruise on my thigh and that's why I give them a 2 star. 1 star for the awesome atmosphere where you can absolutely feel relax and 1 star for their patience and drinks they offer. I've been to a few spas before and this isn't one I would say I love. I have to say I do love their decor and the whole atmosphere. But when I went to use the showers, the ones downstairs were out of order and only one that works was upstairs. Due to the high volume of people using that one shower, the body wash, shampoo and conditioner were pretty much empty by the time I walked in to use it. I usually allow the RMT to apply oil on me when I do a full body massage but I would also like to have it removed before I leave the place. They did grant us access to the pool and the sauna rooms. But the pool wasn't easily accessible. So to me that was kinda useless. My RMT lady was this tall skinny lady (don't remember her name) who was really nice and patience with me considering I had to use the washroom before walking in. But I guess bone rubbing on bone just hurts. She did apply on a fair bit of pressure which I thought I was able to handle for the top half of my body. But when she got down to my thighs I couldn't stand it no more and told her to lighten it up. She did end up lighten up for a bit but went back to the same pressure as before. But it was already the end of my session so I pretty much just brushed it off. Overall, my experience wasn't the best especially when I noticed a bruise on my thigh when I got home. But I guess it really depend on when you go and who you get to do your massage. I do suggest you to grab a gift card from Costco before going. It's like a bit cheaper. Like pay 80.00 and get 100.00 worth of a gift card. read more

This place has gone downhill :( Now a charge to use the pool facilities, "snacks" have sure diminished, and ladies change rooms is always a mess. 50 min massages are 40 min, as time is counted when you are picked up and consulted with. Spa Utopia is a 3 star joint with 4 star pricing, and my personal experience was 2 stars. I booked a body treatment and deep tissue massage. Here's my 2 star experience: 1) My massage therapist was transferred mid-massage to another client. He was replaced with another therapist due to a scheduling mistake on their part. My massage was already 10minutes in when their was a knock on our door and he was asked to leave to work on another client. It was not a relaxing nor professional experience. 2) I had booked a deep tissue massage and received a signature massage with no deep tissue focus. I think that my booking for a deep tissue was lost in the mix-up. The therapist did not focus in on any problem areas, just ran her hands over me in the style of a traditional massage. 3) I complained about experience at the front desk. They changed my price point from a deep tissue to a traditional massage. That was good. They asked me to fill out a comment card and said that the manager would call me to discuss complaints. I never received a call. 4) The front desk staff was generally rude and short with me from check-in through to check-out and with everyone else that I saw. It was not service that I would expect from a nice spa. 5) The facility is junky and cluttered at reception/check-in. Old and dated throughout the spa. The general feel of treatment rooms is a clinical hospital feel. I think it is comparable to a not-so-great spa, Century Spa in Vancouver. Why I still gave it two-stars? 1) The body treatment service and therapist were good. I have had such great customer service and experiences with Spa Uopia that I fully recommend the Langley and downtown locations. I have not been to any other locations. The company and people are so customer friendly and that seems very rare today. While I have mainly had massage and totally recommend the hot stone option , I will look to other services in the near future. read more

Really relaxing spa! I usually come about an hour or so early because, since you're a guest of the spa you're allowed to use the pool! It has an amazing view especially if you come at night! In the spring/summer, you have the option to have the seasonal scent of massage oil and smells wonderful! I dance a lot and my muscles get really stiff and sore so I usually get Richard for my massages (sports massage)(since ladies aren't usually strong enough for me...). They have a nice steam room in the changing room and while you're waiting, there's a sitting place where you can have a variety of teas and coffee (I think, I usually don't drink much coffee so I wouldn't know) and dried fruits and nuts! Really love this place and I'll always come back! read more

I do not recommend the downtown Spa Utopia for hair and makeup for weddings. As soon as I met my hairdresser, I thought, "Oh god. This is not going to end well." She had a short haircut that was styled with so much teasing and hairspray that her hair stood 3 inches from her head! I envisioned a soft, healthy, can't-tell-I'm-using-products bun for my hair, but instead she teased it like crazy and absolutely doused my hair in hairspray. I thought to myself, "I didn't think people did hair this way since the 1980's" I later went to the bathroom and cried... on my wedding day.. about it. I returned and asked her to fix it. Her attempts made it slightly better, but I still felt like I was wearing a helmet. Next came the make-up. My eyes were puffy from the crying and thankfully they offered a cool towel (and cheap white wine... at 9 in the morning) to soothe them. She started by applying what she described as "primer" but what felt like shellac with a PAINT brush in long strokes from the base of my neck all the way to the hairline. Layer upon layer was added and by the time it was over I neither looked nor felt like myself. They convinced me it would, "look great in the photos." I just look like I'm wearing a ton of make up in the photos - the texture of my skin looks gross. I should have done more research and picked a place that had a more modern and healthy philosophy and aesthetic to hair and make-up. It didn't ruin the day by any means, but I didn't feel like myself. I have bought their make-up products to use at home, though, and have been very pleased with them. Not happy with the spa. The RMT cut me off too early for my 50 min massage. He basically just wasted time either warming up massage oil or just gluding his hand as if he's giving me a massage. I then went out in the lounge area to grab a drink after my service, and the hot water for the tea was cold! I wad never shown around the facility upon my arrival, so i had no idea where the steam room or the pool was. Overall not satisfied for paying $135 for a massage that i did not enjoy. When I go to a spa, I usually like to combine two services to make my time more worthwhile. This time I had a body wrap and RMT massage. The body wrap was just OK (not worth it). The massage was good, the RMT was one of the most experienced ones there. However, for some reason I feel like an object on the table?! I had a strange feeling that I was there to be fixed, just like other women... Standard service, 3-star because this spa lacks personal touch. Eucalyptus cold towels and hot stream rooms are very nice. Very well stocked changing room and shower room. The grout lines (in showers/ steam room) need cleaning badly, they're dirty and moldy.... Very good business there, many women sat in the lounge on a Monday afternoon waiting to be 'treated' :) I would prefer the North Vancouver one. read more

I go to Spa Utopia about twice a year. I love the ambience and how well everything's laid out. The staff are friendly, the atmosphere relaxing and there are fluffy towels eveywhere. For al aoverall experience, this is truly relaxing and pampering. I have to admit, though, that I'm usually underwhelmed by the services. I usually get either deep tissue massage or facial and I'm usually left feeling like, "Really? Is that it?. I usually go to a clinical RMT about every two weeks for a therapeutic massage, so I know what I like and need and even the RMTs at Spa Utopia seem to focus on a lighter, relaxing massage even after I beg for a deeper touch. However, on my last visit, I had Kevin as my massage therpist and I have to say he was amazing. I got an excellent deep-tissue massage that worked out all the horrible knots along my back, shoulders and neck. He also didn't chat excessively, but did answer all my questions knowledgeably and professionally. This was by far the best visit I've had at Spa Utopia and it was because of Kevin. read more

I love it here! I was given a gift card forever ago and finally decided to use the remaining amount. I booked myself in for a brow waxing and eye lash tint. My technician was Cindy and she was AWESOME! I had previously had my lashes tinted at the Langley location (review tomorrow) and the tint ran so I made it clear to Cindy to coat me with vaseline in case that happened again. We started the tint but after 30 seconds my eyes were already running.Cindy suggested that I may be one of the few people who shouldn't use (brand name here) tint. I have used another brand with no problem so she is probably right. I appreciated the fact that she looked out for me and suggested we stop. Onto the brows. Cindy has a very light touch and is very very thorough. I love how she did my brows. The spa is down on the cruise ship level of the Pan Pacific Hotel and is very warm and welcoming. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I love that they offer everyone a robe and slippers to wear while u stay. The lounge is comfy and there is a great selection of water coffee tea or wine to drink plus fruit to snack on and magazines to read. My one teeny tiny complaint is that their are men getting services done as well and they share the lounge. It is slightly uncomfortable walking around in your robe when there are men around , LOL That said I will return to Spa Utopia and Cindy. The price is high but so worth it. 4.75 stars haha read more

This review is for the Langley location. Went for the Royal Massage service last weekend. This is a very large spa, with a Roman temple feeling inside. Prices are on the high side, but I think it's worth it. There were both men and women relaxing in the lounge area wearing robes, ample selection of magazines to read, and platters of dried fruits and nuts, plus tea and waters to choose from. The service itself was excellent and relaxing, but the 5 stars are because for my money I got to spend several hours relaxing in the lounge, in the eucalyptus steam room post-massage, and in the lounge again. Definitely get there 30 min+ beforehand and plan to give yourself an hour post-service. Ahhhhh. I had a gift card for Spa Utopia so I thought I would go for a hair cut. I had high expectations given its spa service prices and the location. I thought I would be pampered but instead I waited 20 minutes when I arrived and received a cut that was only meh. The hair dresser was nice and chatty but the head massage which is my favorite part was a little lacking. I thought that since it was a spa there would be more to that part, maybe even a bit of a neck massage as I have had that at other salons. She did have a warm towel post hair wash which was definitely a nice touch. Perhaps I am overly particular about my bangs but she didn't get what I was saying and they were a little longer in the middle then one of the sides. She fixed it a little when I tried to show her a picture of what I meant but I ended up going to Sutro to have them trimmed later that day. read more

I took my husband here for a Valentine's day treat... when we arrived, he filled out his forms (I had been here a couple years back so they still had me on file)... and then we were directed in to our separate changerooms with lockers to leave all of our belongings inside and change into slippers and a robe. We met back in the lounge area and enjoyed some nuts, banana chips and tea. We were then greeted by our estheticians and were led to a private room where we had side by side massages scheduled (mine was a 3rd trimester prenatal massage). It was very relaxing and calming. After our 50 minute massages, we were led back to the lounge to enjoy more tea and snacks while we waited for our estheticians for our next service - side by side pedicures... When we were greeted by our new girls, we were led to a different room with massage/pedicure chairs. It was very small, quiet and unfortunately I forgot to grab some magazines so I had to read their very large brochure for most of the pedicure. They only carry one brand of nail polish so the selection was quite small, although I managed to pick the only brightest colour they had. For the price of the pedicure ($80) and the quality of service, I would say we could get a better pedi at any other nail salon... but we are paying for the ambiance of Spa Utopia... Once the pedicure finished, we had to leave the room and wait in the lounge area. I wish I knew they had a pool, I would have brought my bathers and extended our time here! It was so blissful and peaceful, a much needed getaway. The massages were very expensive, but the experience was really nice. My husband and I had a great time getting pampered together. read more

I come here for massages by RMT a lot. RMT's here are 90% all great! I like it how you don't have to bring anything with you except your wallet of course. They have shower, steam room, sauna, hot tub and swimming(on the 8th floor) towels, plenty to drink and lil snacks. What else can you ask for? Just finished a facial with Yuka. Everything went so smoothly from being greeted to being brought in to change. Yuka was very pleasant, calm and sweet. I loved the bed as it was electric so I wasn't lying flat this makes you extra comfortable. Everything about the facial was great and as a facial should be. A couple key things I noticed: the extractions never hurt, when she applied my mask she placed a pillow under my neck and readjusted my head band (they made everything that much more cozy). I opted for the foot massage vs the scalp massage this comes included. Will come back. Went to the steam room and now just ending with a complementary glass of red wine!! read more

A few months ago I had some gift cards to use at spa utopia. I had no idea what service to get and seeing that I am an RMT, I didn't really want a massage. I had heard the spa's facials were great so booked the utopia signature advanced facial. Boy was I impressed. Loni was exceptional. Not only did she have a vast knowledge of skin care, but I was at ease with her for the 75 minutes. I learned things about my own skin and she recommended some daily things I would benefit from doing that really made a difference. This service was both relaxing and rejuvenating. I look forward to booking with Loni again in the future. read more

Had a gift card that was purchased back in January for my birthday. I finally got to use it and was extremely excited. I booked myself a scrub which was fantastic. Unfortunately, at checkout, my gift card didn't read. The gift card was purchased in North Vancouver, but apparently the transaction was never recorded. The desk spent ages trying to find any proof of purchase for about half an hour. I also had to call my friend who bought the gift card to explain the issue. My friend then spoke to Spa Utopia to confirm the gift card was genuine. Didn't help. Their 'warm and welcoming service' soon turned Into doubt that perhaps I was trying to pull a fast one on them. I insisted repeatedly that I was no con. The manager told me that Spa Utopia was a 'big company' and that they'll try their best investigate the problem. They eventually requested that I pay upfront and would be refunded if and when proof of purchase was made. I was totally miffed at having to do this without guarantee that they'd succeed. I reluctantly paid over a hundred dollars for my birthday gift and left deeply upset. However, the manager called out just as I was about to exit via the lifts, and told me that they may have found a trace. They immediately refunded my money. Personally, a 'big company' such as Spa Utopia shouldn't mess up. Their mission is to provide a, professional, satisfactory and top notch experience for their clients in order that they return. This is what the client is paying for and should expect. Unfortunately, this never happened. What began as a lovely experience turned very sour. Too few apologies and it would've been nice had they offered some compensation for my inconvenience and stress. I raised the matter to customer services but have yet to hear back. One of the worst spa experiences I have ever had! I understand that the massage pricing is less than most nicer spas downtown Vancouver and that this spa operates like a conveyer belt, running it's clients in and out of rooms on the hour, but the service was horrific, both from the RMT and manager, whom we shared our complaint with. They were both dismissive of our concerns - the fact that the RMT arrived to retrieve us late for our massage, and then had us in and out of our rooms in under 42 minutes, for a 50 minute massage booking! Even if they were to take into the assessment time (which is included in your massage time, though clients are never advised of it), the massage itself lasted for under 30 minutes, and for no fault of our own! The manager was rude and patronizing, as was the RMT. Perhaps some training in customer care would help this facility. Last visit ever. read more

They have changed their booking system where you can't actually talk directly to the Pan Pacific location. I called 4 times trying to book an appointment with my regular hair stylist at Pan Pacfic only to get put on hold for 20 minutes the first time, hung up on the second time, lectured the third time and the forth time they actually admitted the stylist I requested was no longer with the company. Oh...I emailed them twice and they never answer those either. Worst customer service I have ever had in this industry. read more

I have always had a fantastic experience with the estheticians here, but the front desk staff and management are not very knowledgeable and can be disinterested. I was very disappointed as I spent a considerable amount of money here in the last six months ($1400), including a $129 VIP membership that was supposed to give me certain discounts. I had to argue to be given the discounts that came with the membership, even trying to show the manager her own website on my blackberry when the system was down due to a power outage, but she refused to look at it. My fiancee was with me, and this is the only time that I have seen him get visibly agitated at the lack of knowledge and customer service that was being provided. Further, management tried to restrict my use of a gift card that was given to me as it apparently was purchased at a discount from Costco. The card did not say anywhere that it could only be used on certain services, and management tried to impose this at the time of payment. I tried to find out what my service would cost before going in, but they would not tell me this and tried to change the terms of the membership and gift card when I was paying. I later wrote an email providing constructive feedback and received no response. My fiancee and I both have law degrees and I have an MBA, and so I tried to offer something constructive that could help them to avoid inconsistencies in their product offerings based on my knowledge and experience. If you are looking for a relaxing experience, I would keep looking. read more

I would not recommend this spa location. On the morning after my wedding my wife and I went to this location so that she could enjoy a facial and we could together enjoy the steam rooms and relax together. I went there for massage and I was quite disappointed! First there is no special parking accommodation like willow stream for example and I ended up paying $28 for just a little over 2 hrs. Their lounge is very NOT cozy! It's too bright and too open I felt as if I walked into a cafeteria! I also was sitting with my rob trying to relax and suddenly a man walked in with his wife and both in robes so turned out to be a shared lounge and no one had any mention of that! What's ridiculous is actually the snacks they offer that they purchase from Costco which I don't mind to eat at home or at a friends house but when I am coming to a "special retreat" and paying $200+!!!! They had banana chips that was disgusting! It just feels like a big slap on the face when you are spending that much to enjoy a special thing and this what happens!!! I wouldn't recommend it at all!!!! I have been to their Langley location and it actually has a cozier lounge and free parking, same crappy snacks though but still not too much of high expectation anyways! You go downtown to a spa that is in the heart of touristy area and you get a facility and accommodation worse than Langley which is an hour or so inland!!! There are many amazing spas in DT find something else if you want a special and enjoyable experience!!! read more

Had a relaxing facial only to be gouged $16.50 for 2 hours and 10 minutes of parking. It's disappointing they don't validate anymore.
