During my visit to Ignite Med Spa to ask about neurotoxin pricing, I was quoted $400 for 40 units of Dysport--an unusually high rate of $10 per unit. This is extremely high compared to the typical $4-$8 per unit range (usually around $160-$320 total). When I politely questioned the pricing, the nurse practitioner seemed perplexed and a bit defensive, and the whole interaction felt sketchy and unprofessional. It really came across as if she was trying to get the most money possible, instead of focusing on fairness and honesty in her pricing. I remained very polite and calm during our conversation, simply explaining that I wasn't going to be overcharged. Having had Botox many times before, I know what fair pricing looks like. The entire experience felt more about profit than patient care. Right after leaving, I went to Bravo Medical Aesthetics, which is right around the corner, and the difference was night and day -- far better pricing, more professional, and an overall excellent experience. When I arrived to the Waterbury location the room smelled amazing, beautiful setting to say the least, everything always clean and I was put on a personalized plan after having surgery which I loved because I had no idea what to do post op. We went through drainage, hot stone massaging, cupping, full body compression suits and vibration plates. I felt completely comfortable and most importantly SAFE in her hands. I booked a massage online using their system and received a confirmation of my booking after I placed my credit card. When I arrived (40 minute drive from my home), there was no available therapist. I was told that the spa was changing online booking systems and that they were sorry and that the therapist was probably sick. They did try to call to find someone last minute and offered me a 50% discount on my next massage which was very generous. So, I tried again to book a service the next day, received a confirmation and decided to call the number online to double confirm so as not to end up in the same situation. I did so 2 days in a row and even sent a text via a chatbot and never heard back. I decided to try calling the chatbot number and someone answered. She confirmed my appointment and then proceeded to ask me if I would be willing to change my service booking since the therapist usually doesn't like doing multiple services if they take 3 hours. I asked if the therapists communicate their preferences so that customers can't book something which cannot be performed. The receptionist started to get defensive and asked if I knew that 3 hours was a long time to book services for. I then asked her if I could give her some constructive feedback: that I found it very difficult to communicate with Soma and effectively book services-something I've done online hundreds of times over the years with different businesses. Surprisingly, she felt the need to announce that she would cancel my appointment and tried to hang up on me. I was able to get her to hear me in my request that my feedback simply be fed up to the management, but I experienced her as persistent in her "not my problem or responsibility" message. I told her that as a receptionist, she is the outward face of her company even if she isn't the owner or therapist. Overall an incredibly unprofessional experience. I will not return and will warn friends against Soma. There are so many wonderful businesses with excellent customer service in the area which I would encourage people to patron.
