This is always a great visit to see Seattle and beyond from 360 degree bird's eye view. Purchased tickets through City Pass and it could not have been easier. Incredible views from high above.
Overall we had a great time and it's definitely a must do while in Seattle. The views are great and once you're up there it's very relaxing. The only downside is how expensive it is to get to the top and how long the wait can get. Luckily we were there during the week so it wasn't too bad, but it can definitely get long!
My girlfriend and I were in town to explore the city and of course we had to sign up for the space needle as it is iconic. We order our tickets online for the sunset tour. There was quite a bit of a line, but it went through quickly. It was worth it to see the sunset and they had a 360 view. We ate this cherry pastry that came from the café and it was the best thing I've ever eaten. The cherries were made from there. Overall, we had a good experience and would highly recommend.
Built for the 1962 World's Fair, the Space Needle is Seattle's most recognizable landmark, located in between the Museum of Pop Culture and the Chihuly Glass Museum, where my partner and I came for a visit yesterday. The ticket and entrance process was very easy. Just keep in mind the line was about 45 minutes long, a bit like a theme park ride to get into the elevator after our allotted ticket time, so be ready to wait. Our elevator guy gave us a great tour on a 43-second elevator ride up to the saucer-shaped top-level outdoor observation deck with its open-air glass walls, tilting glass benches that lean out over the city, and the world's first and only revolving glass floor. If one's brave and daring enough, even though the height wasn't as frightening as we thought, step onto the glass floor to see Seattle right under your feet. The Space Needle may seem like a tourist trap to first-timers, but it's actually worth all the hype.
Fairly easy walk from our Airbnb. It was a good time had by all. The weather was nice. A little crowded when we got to the top, but the views were nice. The line to get to the top wasn't bad. Interesting things to read and look at pictures while standing in line. There's one section where you can have your pics taken for free and sent to yourself immediately. LOVE THOSE!! Different scenarios to choose from. We took four different pics. Once at the top/observation deck, there are different areas to take pics. Kind of reminded me of the Empire State Building. Nice views. There are a few free telescopes to use. There are a few spots where you can purchase some food and drinks.
Whole lot of events hosted at the bottom of the space needle by the pavilion center. Diverse array of events from food festival to a rave one, which I have in my pictures and videos below. Everyone is so welcoming and it really is such a good time here because you can enjoy the sunset during the summer months where it can start at 2030 or 8:30PM...even as late as 2200 or 10PM. Truly such a good time and got to love the scenes hosted in this area
The spaaaaaace needle. You can call it touristy. You can call it overpriced. But if you're visiting Seattle, you're probably going to end up here anyway, and honestly, I'm glad I did. The views are spectacular. On a clear day, you can see downtown Seattle, Elliott Bay, Mount Rainier, the Olympic Mountains, and enough water to make you wonder if Seattle is secretly an island. The glass floors and rotating lower level add an extra layer of fun (and mild panic if you're afraid of heights). Built for the 1962 World's Fair, the Space Needle still looks futuristic more than 60 years later. It's basically Seattle's version of the Eiffel Tower: iconic, impossible to miss, and mandatory for first-time visitors.
If you're visiting Seattle, it's definitely a must! The views from the top were amazing and gave us a great look at the city and surrounding area. All of the employees we interacted with were friendly, and it was fun walking around the gift shop afterward. We spent about an hour here, which felt like the perfect amount of time to enjoy the views and explore without feeling rushed.
Visiting from Orlando, checking out the Space Needle was a must. The 605-foot tower is every bit as impressive in person as it is in photos. The elevator ride travels about 10 mph and getting you to the top in roughly 41 seconds. The views are absolutely incredible, with panoramic sights of downtown Seattle, Elliott Bay, Mount Rainier and the surrounding mountains. The Loupe is the world's first and only revolving glass floor. If you're visiting Seattle for the first time, this is one attraction you shouldn't skip. The views and the experience make it worth crossing off the bucket list. It very cool to think this was constructed in just 400 days, opening on April 21, 1962.
It hasn't been that long since I visited last, but figured it's an important place to go for first-time visitors, so took my wife and her mom here during a weekday afternoon. We came from Mercer Island, taking the light rail (and monorail) and I was pleasantly surprised at how short the journey was. It now costs $55 for an adult ticket (which is steep), which we purchased at the main ticket office. No email address was required to purchase the tickets, which actually became a bit of a problem as any activities done during the visit is tied to your ticket. There were two picture taking opportunities, and both were not very good. One was before you entered, and tied to your ticket. There was no way to download the picture, instead having to take a screenshot to save it. And the picture taking opportunity up on top (where an email address is needed to get the picture), didn't work. We took two pictures sent to two different email addresses, and neither one made it. It was crowded, so we didn't stay very long. My usual recording of info is on my previous review, so no need to repeat.
The most iconic building in Seattle, fascinating to see its unique design and soaring height, standing right underneath it. We reserved our Sunday morning visiting time few weeks ahead. The ticket was part of CityPass. When we got to the site we were able to scan our tickets and walk-in without any waiting. A 40 second elevator ride took us to the observation deck. The observation deck had a 360 view. In each direction there was a dedicated photo op camera positioned for visitors that they can use to take photos for free, just by scanning QR codes. Since it was good weather, the views were stunning from the top. The mountains in the horizons were clearly visible. In the deck, there were seating area, a bar, a snack cafe and stairs to walk down a lower deck. The enclosed lower deck had some clear glass sections in the floor. We could see all the way to the ground thru the glass. Here we also saw the rotation of the deck as the outer section of the deck was spinning along the inner section. In this floor, there was a restaurant as well, only for adults. After were done with the observation decks, we took the elevator down to the gift shop. It was a big one, super clean and organized. Took a while to explore all the sections. They had huge variety of souvenir and gift items. Lots of magnets and stickers. I wanted to buy a replica of the tower. They had it available many different types like metal, plastic and glass. Prices varied from $25 to $300. I ended up getting the metal one, about a foot long. Overall I loved the experience visiting one of the iconic symbols of Pacific North East.
As someone visiting, this is one thing that is so cool. We happened to luck out and go during one of its clearest days of the year and could see every mountain they pointed out. Would not recommend if it's super cloudy cause I can see how it would lose the appeal, but if it's a sunny day and you're visiting then the $$$ is worth it!
Visiting the Space Needle was one of the highlights of our Seattle trip! We purchased the C3 Pass, and the Space Needle was one of the included attractions, making it an easy choice for our itinerary. We were able to walk from our hotel, which was a pleasant stroll and not far at all. Since we arrived early, we spent some time browsing the gift shop and checking out all the unique Seattle souvenirs before heading to the elevators. Once we made our way up to the observation deck, the views were absolutely spectacular. You'll find out pretty quickly whether you're afraid of heights or not! The panoramic views of Seattle, Puget Sound, the bay, and the surrounding mountains were incredible, and we spent plenty of time taking photos from every angle. One of the coolest parts of the experience was walking down to the rotating Oculus glass floor. It was such a unique attraction and definitely something you don't see every day. Watching the city streets more than 600 feet below while slowly rotating around the tower was both thrilling and fascinating. Thankfully, the glass is impressively thick and sturdy, which helped make the experience more enjoyable than nerve-racking. Whether you're a first-time visitor to Seattle or a local showing guests around, the Space Needle is a must-see attraction. Even if heights make you a little nervous, it's absolutely worth the visit for the breathtaking views and unforgettable experience.
We enjoyed viewing the Space Needle from afar as we explored Seattle in October, but even more enjoyable to get a timed ticket to view the building itself and many of its views. We arrived just before sunset and left after nightfall, which made for many interesting photo opportunities. The futuristic building seems so timely now with space exploration being commonplace. Recommend as one of the top things to see for Seattle visitors, especially if time is limited and have to be selective. We had to leave by way of the gift shop as we departed, but we made the best of it and fiddled with quite a few really cool items. I was tempted to buy souvenirs, but pricing and suitcase space traveling back home on an airplane necessitated self-control. read more
When in Seattle it's a must, right? Why did we do it? After taking our 4 year old to the Statue of Liberty earlier in the year and seeing him get excited whenever he sees her on commercials and in photos I knew we had to go up in the needle. It was a beautiful July day. We went up prettybearly in the morning. We ended up getting street parking right at the base of the needle. No wait. Not a lot of people but as we were ready to head down it was getting busier so pro tip- take advantage of the early opening. Inside info: they have an area with a moving floor and glass bottom. Super cool for me and the kids but no so much for my husband so this is a heads up! The lego tower replica space needle really caught our eye and a great guft shop at the base. The Space Needle opened at the 1962 Worlds Fair and since then has become one of the "must do" tourist traps, uh, tourist destinations in Seattle. Tickets can be purchased in combination with other attractions to save money over all. Buy tickets online, at a kiosk on-site, or at the ticket sales office by the elevator entrance at the back. In summer be sure to book your reserved entrance time well in advance. Lockers for your bags are available near the ticket sales office. A security check point before the elevators includes a metal detector and bag search. Valet parking is available at the front entrance or find a lot or garage nearby. A lounge at the top is available by advance reservation only. For our one hundred two dollar entry (for two) we got a ride up to the top and back down again. Here you have 360° views both from inside or outside. You can purchase a poor quality espresso drink (imo), hot cocoa (better) or a sweet or savory pie for twelve dollars each up there. Restrooms are available and are clean. To catch the elevator down, walk down one floor where you can walk on a plexi-glass floor that slowly rotates. There is also a carpeted floor for those who in no way want to feel as though they are defying gravity. This level is where the reservation only lounge is located. Our elevator attendant was obviously in no way enamored with their position. Not rude in any way. When we asked a question they had a ready answer. And it wasn't just them. Every employee we came in contact with seemed to want to be elsewhere. The entire ground floor is a huge gift shop. Good views of Puget Sound at the top. On a previous visit I combined my ticket with the Chihuly glass museum located next door which is excellent. read more
It was a great experience visiting the space needle in 2023, we ended up checking out the museums nearby along with the tour of the space needle, its an iconic Seattle spot to check out. Definitely gets busy, and they did a glass floor to look down, which is a bit nerve wracking. Overall good experience, it does get crowded read more

The Space Needle is one of those places that automatically earns five stars simply because of what it represents. Built for the 1962 World's Fair, it's a piece of history that was never meant to last--but thankfully, it did. It's similar to the Eiffel Tower in that way, which was also built for a World's Fair and later became one of the most famous landmarks in the world. There's something really cool about seeing how these "temporary" structures end up becoming permanent icons. The Space Needle looks like a spaceship rising over the city and still feels futuristic all these years later. Whether you're visiting Seattle for the first time or the tenth, it's a must-see and a reminder of how history, creativity, and vision come together. A true Seattle classic. read more

This Space Needle is an Icon here and each time I come here I must visit and go to the top. I am glad I had the opportunity to visit and made sure that I had enough time in m short schedule to be here with our friends. It is so easily accessible via Monorail from Downtown. We stay just a few blocks away and it's just a 10 minute walk from our hotel. The team members here at any location throughout are friendly and the ticketing process and entry is extremely easy. There were two working elevators to the top and the wait was not long unless you're here on a school vacation day or major holiday. Once at the top you can step outside for 360 degree views of the beautiful City of Seattle, Puget Sound, the Bay, Mount Rainier and other sights. Unfortunately on this trip Mt. Rainier was obscured due to the cloud cover. The elevator ride takes 41 seconds and at least alf the car is taking a movie on their phone. Everyone always seems to have a great time here and love to do their selfies at all the views (all 360 degrees of them.) Make sure you go to the revolving floor and look through the glass below as you turn. This is just a fun place to visit. KUDO's to the team at the Seattle Space Needle. read more
Iconic place that always you to view Seattle 360 degrees. They added very thick plexiglass so that your view of the city is unobstructed. I sat back on the plexiglass chairs and took photos that showed how high it was. I even lied down the revolving floor of where the restaurant used to be. It was epic and I love going back there when ever I have a chance. read more
It's popular for a reason! Enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. Our hotel was in downtown Seattle just a few minutes from Pikes market, so the easiest way for me to get to the Space Needle was to walk to the monorail station just 10 minute walk from my hotel. The monorail goes directly to the Space Needle. I reserved my tickets just 40 minutes ahead of the time I got there. No wait in any line. You first get in the elevator to the top and it's less scary than I thought I would be since you first enter into an inside area. And then you can walk outside. Just stunning views of the Seattle Area. The floor below the top is where the revolving glass is which is super neat. read more
So I'm not much of a I have to go up the main tourist attraction kind of traveler but this I just could not pass up! We both were excited to check out the space needle because it's unique and just so tall! We went up close to sunset and it was so beautiful! I didn't know they had 3 floors! Top floor is the observation deck where you get the clearest photos and it's outdoors! Second floor is well the restrooms lol and the first floor of the main 3 is the rotating glass floor where there is a restaurant/bar. It was honestly so nice I loved everything about this touristy spot! I would come back here for sure. The people working were so friendly and chatty! I loved the little fun facts they were dropping on the elevator! Thanks so much to all the friendly staff who made this trip so enjoyable! read more
Got the space needle entrance in a package with the MoPop and the Chihuly Gardens. We scanned out pass and quickly were admitted. They line you up inside and the line moved quickly. They have 2 floors up top -- an indoor spinning observation deck, and and and outdoor view space. It was cool to be able to see the city with a 360 view especially since it was such a clear day. But it was also underwhelming. The space needle is not that high up so compared to other viewing spaces in other cities, this is not as impressive. However we did it as it wad the thing to do and it was just fine. Going to the top may not be necessary but I like doing the touristy thing so I went up. read more
This was a pretty cool experience but not my favorite. There really isn't much to do other than look at the view which could be a bit overwhelming with the amount of people squished at the top. Tickets are also extremely expensive, we were able to purchase a bundle that has admission to the Space Needle and Chihuly Garden and for about 5 people it was close to $500. It's truly a once in a lifetime experience and the views were breathtaking but not worth the money in my opinion. I also got really dizzy while I was up there so my overall experience wasn't the best. read more
Had to do the full on tourist experience and do a visit up to the Space Needle. It's a pretty quick elevator ride up and definitely nice views when you walk around the outside of the needle. There are a lot of fun places where you can use the camera/QR setup to take some nice selfies. The elevator guide was especially pleasant. I would think that it takes about an hour, but like all of these types of events are a bit pricey. Would recommend doing it still with your CityPass or in a bundle. read more

Since the time we decided that we would be visiting Seattle for summer break. The kids have been ecstatic to look at the space needle and go on the top. We booked our tickets online to avoid the line. It was a Saturday and to our luck there was barely any crowd. It's a beautiful introduction at the entrance on how it was started and built, the designs were really interesting. The escalator takes less than a minute to reach the top which is about 600 feet. The view is wonderful and there's seating to sit an admire the beautiful landscape around. At the bottom floor is the revolving deck with glass flooring. I would highly recommend this specially with kids. It's fun and a definite adrenaline rush. If you have not visited, it's worth a one time visit. read more
Got the City Pass and this was the only place I had trouble checking in with my reservation. Got there early and said it was too early and I needed to come back in 10 minutes. I return and someone else is there and I am told I am still too early and need to return in about 8 minutes. When I come back for the third time I am told my reservation is only for one person so I have to wait in a long line at the ticket office where there is only one window open and I finally get past the area where you scan your ticket just to now wait in a long line to get stuffed into an elevator. The views are nice but I noticed the regular price is $49 and this is something to check off your list since it is so iconic, but not to return in the future. I saw and read there are a couple of other buildings that are less expensive that offer similar views. read more

One of the first things I did on my first trip to Seattle was check out the space needle. It has fantastic views of the city and should be on any tourist (or local) list to check out at least once. Line wasn't too crazy, and while it was a pretty penny to get up there... I would say worth it. In a cool neighborhood and tons of great little restaurants and coffee shops around for before or after the tour if you're not eating up in the needle. Wonderful experience! read more

I was told that the Space Needle has times where it's super busy and not super busy. We went a few hours after they had opened. So we were part of the crowd. Very Disneyland queue. Weaving line with big fans and misty water. Took awhile to get to the elevators. But once you're inside, there's a lot of fun facts to learn about the construction of the Space Needle. Also, a really good Lego Space Needle with a ton of Lego surprises in it. We finally got to the top. The views are worth the wait! We didn't eat at the restaurant but I would be interested from what I saw. If you have the chance, check out the lower deck area. You'll be able to step on the glass floor and look directly down. A bit eerie but fun for you're looking for a small thrill. Head downstairs once you're done and have fun checking out the merch. There's a lot to choose from. Once you're done there, walk outside and check out one of the venders. From hot dogs to caricatures. There's a lot happening here. read more
I would give the Space Needle a solid 'ok'. If you've ever been to places like the CN Tower in Toronto or the Freedom Tower in NYC then you may be disappointed. The Space Needle is a third the size of them both. Approx 600 vs 1800 feet. That being said, it is a Seatttle landmark & something I just had to visit. I enjoyed the views of the water, the city, and in the distance Mt Rainier. I did think $11 for a cup of coffee up on top was a bit crazy. 2025-42 read more

Yelp 100 Challenge- #17 Park in the lot by the Pop Culture Museum and walk over to avoid congestion. You can purchase tickets upon arrival or book ahead online. The top floor has a selfie camera. You scan your ticket and pose and it sends you the picture. On floor below it is a moving floor with another selfie photo opt available. You're able to stay as long as you wish with drinks and light snacks available for purchase. read more
This is my 2nd time being here, the first was 14 years ago. Previously the rotating glass floor area was a dine in restaurant, so it was odd to me that it was gone. I asked a worker and its been gone for 8 years! When you enter you ride an elevator to the top and have an exterior observation deck with views for miles as long as some QR code photo op locations on the platform. You can take stairs down to the rotating glass floor area and see below you as well as watch the inside area of the building slowly rotate while you are stationary. The space needle is something everyone should ecpiernece - I would reccomend stopping by if you are in the area. You end on the ground inside the space needle gift shop. read more

Parking is horrible. With available valet. They do have military discount but I was not able to make it up top because of the wait. I lined up to get the tickets and ended up not being able to do it. Advise to come early! Beautiful sight though and lots of stores around it. read more
This iconic attraction is a must visit. I've been to the Space Needle before and after their renovation and the improvements are massive! There's more glass, tech, and overall room to walk around and experience the view. The experience begins with the walkway to the elevators. The walls display information on the construction of the Space Needle for the 1962 World's Fair. The exhibit spirals up to the elevator queue and overlooks the gift shop. The ride to the top is where fun starts. Their newest elevators are called the Skyliner and features an all glass double decker design. Passengers are treated to an unobstructed view of the Seattle area during the 45 second ascent to the top. The top floor features outdoor open air walkway enclosed in glass panels. This area is called the Atmos. Be warned, the skyriser benches tilt backwards. There are various selfie spots located throughout the Space Needle. Users can scan the displayed QR code and follow the directions to have their pictures taken by a pre-positioned camera. There's even a SkyPad displaying various photos from past visitors. There are concession counters, however not a lot of seating areas. Finding a place to sit and enjoy the view was challenging. There are stairs to the restrooms and glass floor. The Loupe Floor is a revolving glass floor and is 500 feet above ground. They also have an Oculus Selfie and features a glass floor and views of the ground. The Loupe Floor has does have a bar called Loupe Bar and serves cocktails and food. Pricing to ride to the top is variable between $37.50 to $49.00. It all depends on the time block selected and day. I recommend weekday versus weekend visit. This attraction does get busy especially during the summer time. read more
Here's the thing, you gotta go to the top of the space needle once. It's cool. Nice views. The rotating floor is pretty neat. Go on a clear day to make it worth it. Seeing the mountains is really pretty. However, I have a hard time justifying the price to go a second time. 4 stars because it is an iconic landmark but the price is a little crazy. read more
As per being a tourist you have to go... well I felt like this was not worth my time. It felt like I was on a Disney ride for how long I waited, approx 45 mins, just to get up there. Once you are up there it's visually appealing, but there are nicer places in the city to get views. But it must be done to say you've seen the city. read more
This is my second time in Seattle and it was time to explore the needle. What a fun experience it was. Yeah prices are a bit high, but you get to spend a lot of time up there. I wish the cafe was open up top. But honestly it was beautiful I went early in the morning, not a lot of people around so it was perfect to take it all in. I also had no clue the ground moved at all. Which was so cool! Oh and at the top there's a spot for a photo op, just scan your ticket! read more
The Space Needle is a must see when you visit Seattle. I only wish I had more time to experience the restaurant. I literally could have stayed here for an entire evening. Go before dark and stay to see how the views transform. You will be amazed at how beautiful Seattle is from so high up. Don't forget to look at Mt Rainier because my daughter didn't see it. I almost did as well but it's beautiful. They have stations around where you can take pictures so keep your tickets handy. You can literally have a date there which can be very romantic and relaxing. I recommend this place be on the list for must visit places in the U.S read more
Decided to do something touristy, and of course we had to stop by the Space Needle. I do think paying upwards of $40 to go on a 41 second elevator ride and spend maybe, at max 30 minutes here, might be a little much. The wait to get on the elevator also took probably 30-40 minutes. There's of course a gift shop as well (but you don't need to pay to go to the gift shop if you want to skip going up to the top). There are days (which I believe are called Down to Earth days) that you can walk down the stairs and get a free t shirt. read more
Can you stomach the heights of the space needle?! This is a must do activity when visiting Seattle - it took until my third visit to go up but I'm glad I did. Soaring almost 600 ft above the city you can view the detail of the surroundings as well as the skyline. The wait in line to take the elevator gives you an informative history lesson and the 45 second ride to the top jets you up above the city. For what you get the cost is rather high but you've gotta do it at least once in your lifetime. read more

Seattle City Pass attraction! Nice attraction where you check in and go up an elevator all the way to the top of the needle. Look around and see beautiful views of the skyline and waters. 360 degrees of panoramic indoor and outdoor views. You will also get to experience the revolving glass floor and glass benches . You also get a complementary picture of the oculus selfie on top of the city illusion . Drinks and snacks in here are pricey. Souvenir shop had budget friendly items which was a plus. With the city pass you are granted re entry at night to get a second view of the city lights . This was a good option to choose. Check website for FAQ and hours of operation. read more

If you come during a time when there isn't a big line then it's worth it to say you got to go to the top. The views at the top are fine, the rotation deck floor and lounge adds something unique that I haven't experienced on a lot of other observations towers. Two things that would make visit seem like it's not worth it would be how small the top of the viewing deck is compared to other towers, & how long it could take to get up. You can buy your tickets for certain times of the day but that line to get on the elevator can take up to an hour on busy days. If any view of the city will do for you there are a couple building in the city that offer roof top views without the big lines.. read more
This is a must if you visit Seattle. I think the $45 it cost is worth it to see the beautiful city and surrounding area from high above. Thankfully it was a beautiful coolish and sunny day. It was not crowded in early afternoon. There is also a bar at the top where you can get drinks and also a cafe for some nibbles. The staff is very friendly and are happy to chat with you. I highly recommend for a nice view. On a clear day you can spot Mt. Rainier. I would recommend coming close to sunset. read more

It is cloudy like 75% of the time in Seattle. I wouldn't go in the rain, but if it's cloudy (high chances it will be), it's still fine to go and you can still see the city views. No view of Mount Rainier though.

Best time to visit when raining?
Most of the spectacular glass is indoors and you can view the gardens from a large indoor area. The Space Needle can be enjoyed from indoors too...so...anytime is a great time. Enjoy your visit!

You either have to show you vaccine card and ID or a negative COVID test within 72 hours. Go to the Space Needle website and look at the FAQ guide

We stayed about 30-45 mins. We took pictures then went down stair to check out the shop.
Pet friendly can you bring a small dog?
Only if it's a service dog. Otherwise you could have one person or part of your party stay with the dog outside while the other part of your party goes up.
Can I look in the gift shop without buying a ticket?
Yes you can, but what fun is that? But if you DO, make sure to bring a ton of quarters so you can use that cool hand-crank machine that let's you s-t-r-e-t-c-h quarters into a cool oddly-shaped Space Needle metal souvenir-thingie. (Takes 5…
How much does it cost per person?
It's about $33 each person but I recommend the Seattle city pass if you wanna go to the zoo/museum of pop culture/glass museum/space needle
Is parking easy and convenient?
When using Valet it is but not on the weekends as it tends to get clustered up by Uber and lift drivers
So I hear it's best to just make reservations at the restaurant for dinner and gain access to the top of the Space Needle since entry per person is about $40 anyways. Is the restaurant worth it? And is this information true?
This information is no longer true after the remodel which removed the restaurant entirely. The only notable 'discount' is to get combo tickets and visit multiple attractions.
Is this closed now because of the renovation?
The cafe was open when I visited last week.
Are strollers allowed?
No, unfortunately. As of August 2018, they had me park my stroller in a designated area.

If a person has a great fear of heights it may seem scary. However, the newly installed floor to ceiling glass is quite thick and solidly secured providing a clear view in all directions.
