This is my fourth or fifth time getting my hair done here because I come back like at least once…read moreyear! And I highly recommend Jenny for dyeing hair and Lan for cutting hair. They are both amazing not only being very skilled and patient, but also listen to what I want and always give me the best results. And I always get compliments from friends about my new hair color and haircut whenever I get my hair done here. So I definitely trust them with my hair out of all the other hair salons in NY and recommend coming here. The place is always busy even on Mondays so plan ahead and come earlier in the day~

The woman who was washing my hair was in no rush to get it done and it was very soothing. Note worth taking was she shampooed my hair twice which no other salon I have ever been to have done before. She took her time with me and I appreciated that. Jenny cut my hair and I will be requesting her from now on. She did a great job and was very detailed with my hair.

I went in for a color correction and full set of highlights. The results were appalling. The stylists have no clue what they're doing. This is a photo of the highlights done aka zebra stripes. The solution to this? The stylist, Elizabeth just added dye to cover up the highlights. The end result? Darker hair than I had previously. I could have easily bought a box of hair color and dyed my hair if I wanted this. Went to the owner to find some resolution, he was rude, arrogant and dismissive. Photo of the zebra striped highlights on the right and then the undesired end results on the left. Terrible job, and no compensation for a disgraceful job. I'm embarrassed for them.

The wash was bare minimum (I had to brush it myself), the cut was a rushed straight-across trim, and when a small knot couldn't be removed, that section was simply cut shorter. The blow dry was almost nonexistent and only done after I insisted; it wasn't fully dried and was finished with a flat iron. The entire service took about 20 minutes and cost $90. These prices might make sense in LIC or Manhattan, but the service here isn't remotely comparable. The space is run down, there's no atmosphere, and no real customer service. It felt like a rip-off, and I won't be returning.

After having long hair for years, I lost it all following Chemo treatment for breast cancer. By the time I moved to the USA (2008) from England I had short hair and it was so important for me to find a good hairdresser. After a couple of disasters at other salons, someone recommended Space Salon & Spa to me & I have been going there ever since. My hairdresser is Manny & let me tell you, MANNY IS THE MAN. I can't praise him enough. Manny has colored, cut & styled my hair from short to long & in between. Manny always listens to me when I ask for a particular style, cut or color and I always walk away feeling great, because I get just what I've asked for. Ladies, I think you know that is a rare thing or at least it has been in my past - You know the scissor happy hairdressers & the styles that don't look anything like the pictures you show them. On occasions when I haven't been sure what I want, Manny will suggest a style or color changes and I have always been happy with the end result. Even when he washes my hair, I get that deep massage treatment that feels like heaven. I have to say that the Manager & all the staff in the Salon are really friendly, but I would like to commend one in particular and that is Grace, the receptionist. Grace is the perfect person for the job, she is the first point of contact and has a great personality and makes you feel so welcome. I called in Saturday morning and I was happy that they could find me a slot early in the afternoon. I asked for a long bob "asymmetrical" and they scheduled me with Tim. When I arrived I waited just 2 minutes and Tim started on my hair right away. He is very sweet and careful; he explained to me that the haircut I asked is actually called "A-Line", I'm really happy somebody actually told me since I'm French and it's called "carre plongeant" and for years nobody told me! He took the time to do an even and softer haircut and removed some of that awful thickness I had from a previous salon (see my previous review). I feel refreshed and perfect for our hot summer. I think next time I will ask to get the cut even softer/smoother and more "round", the ends are still kind of blunt, that will demand probably more texturizing (or a different stylist?), but I think Tim or this place should know how to do that. I would have preferred having the perfect haircut the first time though. The cut ended up being $10 more than they quoted on the phone - apparently blow-dry isn't included (?) - but they offered to apply the website's $10 coupon without me asking for it, so that was totally fine with me. I noticed next to me there was a hairstylist her name was Adela and she seems really good she's a colorist and probably a senior stylist, maybe if I want to spend the extra $ I will request her next time! :). I went to this place last fall based on their (pretty good) Yelp reviews. I walked in and was gawked at instead of greeted. I guess I don't look like I belong in there or something. I ignored this and approached the desk. The stylist (who shall remain nameless so as not to bear the brunt of the entire negative experience) looked me up and down,smacked her gum, and pointed me to the back to get shampooed. I don't know the girl who washed my hair did so without touching my head, but she did. The one star is for that. Magic, I tell ya. Back to the gum-smacking lady. She started in on my (short) hair without asking what I wanted, and I had to interrupt the cutting to tell her. She proceeded to chop at my hair for all of (I kid you not) 4 minutes - I'm being generous here. She took off the plastic and I was stunned. I thought maybe it had come loose or something, but no. She was done. I glanced at myself in horror, and plodded away to the rhythm of the gum smacks. There was no way I was going to ask for anything further - I looked like I did when I was 6 and my mother cut my bangs with kitchen scissors. Then! I went to pay, and found that they itemize charges. (i.e. 40$ haircut, $5 shampoo, $1.50 detangler, etc etc. - yes, detangler. that i didn't order. a buck fifty. Why not make the haircut $50?) Best part was when I was out the door. read more

This is actually less of a review about Space which I find to be your average hair salon with some nice, friendly people, and then the clumped in the back, nasty looking ladies that you know are either eyeing and commenting or counting their tips. Space is average. Not terrible but I wouldn't say amazing. It is my hairstylist that I am absolutely in love with. I have cheated because I moved to Brooklyn. And I will NEVER cheat again. Nicole is an amazing hair dresser. In fact, I made the mistake (when Nicole had an injury at the last minute and couldn't see me) of seeing another hairdresser at Space who butchered my cut. This was a few years ago. I called the next day and said I was very unhappy and that I wanted to come back and be seen by Nicole. Not only was I not charged (which was the right thing to do) but Nicole took one look at my hair and knew that the other chiquita had done me wrong. She fixed and all was well. I find her to be consistent and even though there are times that I dont see her for 6 months or even a year in between she alwasy remembers my cut. I would recommend her a million times over. She is worth the now 90 minute trek from Brooklyn to Astoria. read more

I have been an 80's girl for the past 30 years never letting the big hair get away from me. I have been made fun of for not keeping up with the times, etc. but did not want to change my style feeling scared that I wouldn't look good. The end result of years of bleaching and yes perming made my hair so damaged it got to the point I couldn't wear it down anymore (should length). This past year I said enough and walked into Space where my dear friend Manny is a hairstylist. (I had been doing my hair myself all along as I too used to work in several salons over the years). I was very nervous but knew I was in good hands all the same. He worked his magic and I now have a very exciting short haircut which has changed my life and the way I perceive myself. My husband loves my hair and told me I can never go to anyone other than Manny. Manny is the best hairstylist ever and I have been to him four more times since the first hair cut and I just let him do what he knows best and I walk out of the salon feeling like a new person. Had a horrible experience here with Manny. Went in to get my color and lowlights touched up and ended up with something dark and streaky. The whole debacle cost me nearly $200, and that wasn't even for a cut! I was surprised when the stylist and hair washer were spending so much time over my hair after rinsing, but didn't think much of it as they didn't address me at all. When I was taken back to the chair to have my hair dried, I thought it odd that I was positioned so that my back was to the mirror, but foolishly didn't say anything. I didn't actually get to see the cut until after the blowout. The lowlights are considerably darker than what I had before, and they're a cool tone, which is out of place with the rest of my warmer tones. If find that kind of behavior unscrupulous, to deliberately ignore the fact that you've just made of mess of your client's hair. Will never be back, and felt compelled to warn others. Can anyone recommend a salon that's good, and inexpensive, to correct this mess? read more

I am a regular client at Space and I have been going here for over 5 years. Rudi is the best stylist and colorist! I like to change my hair color going from dark to light and anything in between. Rudi know what works for my hair and I trust her completely. Rudi styled my hair for my wedding over 4 years ago and it was amazing. Since then, I have sent my family to Rudi for cut, color and blow dry, including my mom, my aunt, my nieces and my nephew (between ages 7-14). We love the atmosphere of the salon and the friendliness of the staff. My husband also gets his hair cut here on a regular basis. I must say this place is awesome! From the moment you walk in you feel the friendly and cozy atmosphere. You need that, especially when you decide to make a change in your life. Usually it starts with the look so being a brunette (black hair) all my life I decided I need to soften my look with OMBRE. I couldn't choose a better place but more important I couldn't choose a better stylist. ADELA. She listens, gives you advices and in the end you get exactly the color you want. With her nice and calm personality she makes you feel very comfortable with your decisions and what could be more challenging than going from black to a lighter look? BEST HIGHLIGHTS AND COLOR !!!!!!!! I usually get my hair done in the city however i heard of Space through a friend and recommended me to book an appointment with Catherine. I was skeptical in trusting someone else with my hair but she was very professional, im very picky but she was great she listened to what i exactly wanted and did an amazing job, and as for the price well im used to city prices so it wasnt that bad. I went to space salon for the first time on Friday for a full head of highlights. I went to an absolutely wonderful women named Bianca, she took amazing care of me. She talked with me before we even started to make sure it was exactly what I wanted. She gave me her opinion on what would look best on me and her judgment was so beyond accurate!!! The whole process was amazing not once did I second guess my decision like I did at other salons. Bianca explained the whole process to me and at the end I was completely in love with my hair it's everything that I wanted plus more. Ever since I moved to Ditmars Blvd 8 years ago I had been trying to find a salon and stylist I trusted. Walked in one day and had the absolute pleasure of meeting Stella who I have been loyal to ever since! As a singer in a band and a Wall Street Exec, I have to find a happy medium for both of my "lives," and Stella knows just how to achieve that. Today was my first time at Space Salon. I was getting highlights and a cut. My appointment was with Stella Kouris! I have to say before we started she spent time with me to make sure I was happy with what we decided to do with my hair and she took her time! She is very good at what she does and knows what is best for my hair and for the look I was going for. She had a great personality and always made sure I was okay or needed anything! I've been lucky enough to have Bianca work on my hair twice this year. My first service was a glorious full head of highlights. Bianca took her time and fixed the color (too brassy) done at another, pricier salon. You can see the stunning results on her Instagram page- I'm on the March 21st entry - and the photos don't lie. The second service was a haircut, which was perfect. I'd been wanting more of a long shag with layers and that's exactly what I got. It was my first time at Space Salon, I searched online for hair salons to get my hair straighten and I finally decided on Space. The attendant was very nice and helpful, the place looks great and clean. I was directed to Stella, who did an AMAZING job with my hair. I had my hair straighten before and they were horrible scaring experiences, but Stella was great, she explained to me what the options were and walked me through the whole thing. Today was my first day to go to the Salon, I was greeted very nicely at the door and my hairdresser Nicole came over introduced herself and asked me specifically what I would like to get done. Space Salon has been MY salon for years! I always see Nicole when I get my hair done, she knows my hair so well, she does her magic and every time the result has been amazing! She takes her time with my hair, even though she's busy but I never feel rushed. There were times when I wanted to save money, so I just asked for a cut, but she always takes the extra effort to dry my hair, almost completely dry so I won't sick when I get outside. I went there today to get my highlights redone after over a year of letting them grow out. I made an appointment with Ana, and asked her for a cool-tone blond that didn't look to yellow. I showed her a picture and she saw my vision immediately. From there, her and her assistant Taylor worked tirelessly to make my hair the perfect color (and it was definitely hard work -- my hair got incredibly long during quarantine, so there was a lot of hair to color). In addition to the partial highlights, I also got the Olaplex treatment that Ana recommended to help strengthen my hair after all of the coloring. My hair feels so incredibly soft and silky, so I'm glad I did. I haven't felt this good in so long, and I can't wait to go out and show off my new color! I'm definitely going to be heading back to get a nice haircut as well. The entire team is so nice and welcoming and it was such a pleasure getting my hair done in their salon.
