Twice we saw girls look at the tour group and roll their eyes in disgust and while on tour there wasn't a single friendly hello from students walking around the campus. It's a shame because Marist has some great programs and was close enough for my son to come home once in a while. They say you can't make a second first impression and vibe from the current students we saw walking around just didn't make the place seem like the right fit. It is ranked number four of the top ten community colleges in New York. The campus is very diversed. There are many different clubs and sports for my daughter to choose from. The grounds are very clean. The dorm rooms are pretty spacious with a mini kitchen in each dorm space, no community bathrooms thank goodness. The cost of attendance is about 16k per year that including the room and board, but not books. This is a wonderful option for parents that have children who do not qualify for TAP or PELL (us). I'm hoping my daughter decided to go to this college. It's a perfect transition from high school to college.

Students won an award for their science work. Northern is a fascinating example of STEAM--science, technology, arts, music. Northern offers ballet, classical music, and classical Chinese dance, along with the humanities and science programs. We visited an arts studio on campus, too, with student's skillful work displayed. A parent spoke of how flexibly the faculty designed course work for his sons--one was extremely good at math, and they let him advance into a much higher grade to do challenging work. Another was extremely poor at Chinese, and the school found two others who were novices and created an ultra-beginner class just for them. If only all schools could do such things! It's good to see a school restoring and using the abandoned Beaux Arts buildings that had become so blighted. Glad they preserved the graceful proportions and aged brick of the old buildings, while making it modern and bright inside.

The staff and professors at the time were awesome and I built the foundation that set me up for my entire career at OCCC. I met some great people there, a few of which are still lifelong friends. I took the elevator down and they just took the group on the stairs and took off without waiting. So I had to leave. I took the issue to admissions and they had nothing to say. If you have any mobility needs don't go here. Nope! Came here for a campus visit and the guide mumbled something and then took the group off at a fast pace, to climb three (or four) flights to the lecture room. Zero access for people with disabilities. I raised with them (as it was not accessible for us) and the first question asked was "did you fill out the form for people with disabilities?" Yes we did. But that is all you got? They say in other reviews that this college is too "woke." How about not woke enough?

I enjoyed the view of the Hudson River. It was established in 1802 by Thomas Jefferson and graduates some of the top Army leaders. Their low cost family memberships are fantastic and offer unlimited access. They also offer many days throughout the year with low cost day swimming. Also, beginning at six months, they have low cost swim lessons that now include a family membership! I love taking my son. I have not utilised the children's room they offer, but I'm sure that is awesome too.
