I love this Campground. Been going for 4 years straight now, and the family loves it. It's quiet, and the river is within walking distance. This place's one flaw is that a loud train passes by every night. Quincy is 12 minutes away, so it is very convenient for buying ice. No cell service, which is good if you are trying to get away from the city routine. read more

The campground was kept super clean and the scenery is gorgeous. Manny, the camp host was very friendly and helpful. Always has a good story to chat about and seems to know the area very well. He suggested we check out Indian Falls, which was down the road and has great swimming and hiking! At the campground there are gorgeous swim holes. There are train tracks that surround the campsite, and the first time we heard it sounded pretty creepy. But, you get used to it and by the next day it actually sounded pretty cool. We will be back, it sure beats boca/stampede and is only 1.5 hours north of Reno. read more

Stayed in the big campground, right near the entrance. River was walkable distance from there. We got lucky and were the only group in that section. We were rolling about 40 deep. And reserved 2 group plots for us. There was 2 bathroom stalls at the bottom of the group area and 2 at the top. Vaulted style bathrooms with a water faucet outside. There are food lockers next to the firepits. Was able to store in a cooler and still a good amount of space there. Unfortunately if you are a light sleeper, there's a chance you may here the train pass by at night. read more

We pre-booked a large site for 5 people to keep with the governor's policy for social distancing. I even had a local contact check out the camp and ask them if they were going to be open for father's day weekend. All seemed well until we arrived at 4 pm Friday night and the gate was locked and what seemed to be a recent hire told us our campsite was closed. I am not sure why management would let us book the site or why they wouldn't reach out with our reservation details email, or call or even cancel the charges to give us a heads up. You can imagine the frustration between our family and this park service employee. He wasn't very nice and they didn't have but a few 1-day spots that we would also have to pay additional for. We gave up because they said they could give us a refund and we had to find somewhere else to camp. Luckily we had that local contact and camped on their front driveway. Everything was booked even the local no reservation spots. I would avoid this site in the future. read more

Pros: -Camping in the bottom of a beautiful, narrow, pine tree covered canyon canyon -Mostly flat, large campsites -Awesome swimming holes even for little kids, the water barely moves through the widest sections. -Our camp host, Manny, was awesome. Very attentive, always around for security and questions, and really take pride in keeping the place clean. Cons: -Train tracks do surround the campground and the freight trains are loud going up and down the canyon. -Spots may be backwards for rv'ing, especially trailers. (The tables and fire rings may be on the opposite side as your door but that's only in a few sites). Reviews seem to be mixed on this place but we really enjoyed it. Manny, our camp host was amazing. Buzzed right up when we pulled in and asked if we needed any help, showed us to our campsite, and made sure we knew he was there if we needed him. He was constantly making rounds around the park making sure everything was ok and he really took pride in keeping the park (especially the bathrooms) very clean. The best part, for us, was the awesome swimming holes in Spanish Creek. Our kids (2 and 4) loved the big, wide swimming areas. You can't even tell the water is moving through the widest areas of the creek which makes it really nice for the small kids. If you want to enjoy some moving water you can find it a short hike up or down the creek from the campground. Surprisingly the water was very warm (maybe 70) when we visited in July which was nice because it did get into the 90's outside. The town of Quincy is about 7 miles away and offers just about anything you may want. The trains are something to now, they basically surround the campsite and for us ran every few hours including once at midnight. We were in an RV so it didn't really effect us but I can see how it would be an issue if you were sensitive to noise or camping in a tent. All in all we really like the place and will be going back. read more

First of all, MANNY IS AWESOME! My friend and I went up numerous times this summer and he was always friendly, welcoming, and made us feel welcome. He's got some great stories! Frankly, the negative reviews about him probably come from people who never go to campgrounds. It's not Air B&B. Yes, the train is loud, but the campground can't do anything about that, so be aware of it and quit your bellyaching. The spot is beautiful, the swimming is great, Quincy is a short drive away, and it's super chill. If you don't want to have a terrible time, try setting up all of your new expensive REI equipment before you get there. Don't blame the campground because you can't inflate your air mattress . read more

Thank you again Manny, you were awesome! - Bathrooms were always kept clean and toilet paper was re-stocked everyday. Our water spout was checked daily as well, I'm assuming to check the clarity of it. Check-in and check-out was a breeze, no problems there. As for the location and campground - Our campsite was for a big group, accommodated 20 of us. It was spacious and clean with tons of shade! The only downside to this campground was the mosquitos (our bug sprays and bug candles couldn't fight them off) and the train, its loud and rolls by through the night. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay and hope to visit again! read more

My 3rd time returning. Love the spot BUT Manny, the host, has to GO!!! I had a group site rented for a socially distanced birthday and he gave it away to 2 individuals in one RV with no reservation who were willing to leave but Manny refused to honor my reservation with paperwork saying I paid for the site. He tried to tell me there was a 25 hour check in window but nowhere on the paperwork or email does it say this. I had 5 other cars en route from 6 hours away with no cell service. I begged him to give me my site. He threatened to call the sheriff & then he LIED. Lying cannot be forgiven. Manny is LIAR. He told me Hallstead, another site 10 miles away, had 2 sites for me which was a big fat LIE. After literally having a panic attack in fear of my friends not getting to us, I went to Hallstead. Manny had told me he called his supervisor who said there were 2 sites there. I should have known that was a lie- like how would he have cell service. There is none! When we got to Hallstead the camp host at Hallstead knew NOTHING of this. Manny then shows up (he knew he was caught) and asks the camp host at Hallstead to go for a golf cart ride with him. Spanish Creek was less full than Hallstead. MANNY is a liar and lacks empathy. No human would do this to a repeat camper who was very worried about their friends getting to the right place in the dark. Manny wanted to act like a big bad man because I am a female. Don't let this MANNY harass you. He caused irreprable trauma to our planned birthday weekend. BEWARE booking or god forbid hitting traffic and being late. He is on a high horse. read more

Rated Great only because Manny the host, took great care of camp and us campers. I have not met another host as kind and informative at a camp in over 20 years. If you need anything Manny will help you find another camper that can help or where you can get what you need. Clean camp with a great swimming hole and this camp would be better with flushing toilets and showers. Twain General Store & RV Park down the way has the best breakfast, lunch and last minute supplies. read more

Manny is the best host in any campground I have stayed in. Helpful, neighborly, very social, all around great guy. What an asset for this Campground, and we always enjoy seeing him every year up here. Every space IS spotless, bathrooms fastidiously clean, and he is always on the cart to make sure that people arriving find the correct spot, and even helps them move in to each spot safely. We have known Manny for years, and always has the welcome mat out for all. We are all not perfect, but so many people feel very positive about Manny and this campground. This was a very clean and comfortable campground. Manny, the camp host, was wonderful. He was quick to make sure we had everything we needed. He keeps the campground neat and tidy. The bathrooms were always clean and well taken care of. The downside was the trains. They go by every couple hours, day and night. We found they sounded much louder if you stayed at the upper part of the campground. A big plus was the access to the water. Such a nice place to spend the hot days! Highly recommend. read more

The spots are great and have a picnic table and fire pit provided. Drinkable water and very clean and well kept pit toilets. Manny, the camp host, is great, he keeps a great area and can provide insight on hiking spots and other areas to visit around the area. The campground is in a wonderful forested setting, and the camp host, Manny, is super friendly and accommodating. The only reason I'm giving four stars is because of the railroad that runs close to the campground. Four or five trains run through in very early hours of the morning, and the screeching sounds and rumbles echo is the hills. Ear plugs helped on our second night. read more

Great camground! We had space 6 and although it was off by itself, it had a cool public trail down to a couple private beaches. The bathrooms were very clean and the camp hosts were friendly and welcoming. I would recommend this campground if traveling off hwy 36. Close to the town of Quincy. The only downfall were the swarm of bees that came around dinner time. Some good citronella could help though...? read more

I love Spanish Creek and keep coming back every year. The campsites are nice, playing in the river is lovely. The hosts have been nice and welcoming to our group. This was our first time here and we definitely enjoyed it. Just a short drive from Quincy, California, Spanish Creek Campground is easy to find right on Hwy 70 on Spanish Creek. It's also near a bunch of different lakes and rivers that you can visit while on your trip as well. Very family and pet friendly with cozy campsites that aren't too close together and are just the perfect size for an enjoyable camping experience. The campsite is divded into 2 sections. An upper and lower section with the lower section closer to the water and the upper section near the hosts. The hosts are very friendly and accomodating. There's a cool little hiking trail right next to campsite #6 that leads down to the water and looks like it might make for a nice early morning fishing spot. If you go to the lower side of the campground to the day area near site #14 there is an awesome swimming hole and recreation area. I even saw fish jumping there. The only thing about this campsite that isn't exactly wonderful is the loud train that goes by every two to three hours including all night. I didn't mind it but others in my camping group weren't pleased about it so I thought I should warn you. Other than that it was an enjoyable camping experience and fun for the whole family. read more

My family and I camped here some 8 years ago unless you love the train noise, the train tracks was probably about 100 feet above the creek. I could not sleep at all it was very noisy, the lone star above was for the creek that was very near kids enjoyed the swim with some snakes swimming trying to get away, I would not recommend this place if you want a nice peaceful camping experience read more

My family was interested in camping at Spanish Creek and decided to drive in to take a look. We passed by a golf cart that was parked at the top of the road and drove down into the first loop. As we came around the bend at the end of the loop the golf cart was waiting for us. Camp hosts Tom and Brenda seeemed very pissed off that we had not asked permission to drive through. We inquired if we could look below and were granted permission. I was half way through the second loop when I realized I was being followed by the elusive golf cart. We stopped to look at a site and as I pulled away, I saw Tom running back to the cart out of the bushes where he had been watching us. Needless to say, it does not matter if the campground was nice or not, I would not want Tom and Brenda in my business the entire time I camped. As we left- yep- we were escorted out by the golf cart. As long time campers we have never felt so unwelcome in a campground. GO somewhere else. read more

I gave 1 star as no stars was not an option. This camp ground is backwards with the tables on the opposite side of the rv door unless you have a motor home or a tent. There's a train that runs every 20 min day and night that sounds like it's just circling the park. The worst part is the so called camp hosts. They are completely rude! They refuse to answer any questions, try to keep you from walking around the camp site, accuse everyone of everything that goes wrong, tell the guest that they cannot talk around the camp fire at night (even with a normal conversation voice), they talk to the guest in a very demeaning manor, and curse at the guest when they try to ask a question of why their being so extremely rude. We do a lot of camping are familiar with camp etiquette which we always use, but they were obviously having issues which they felt compelled to take out on their guest. Needles to say we'll never stay there again as there are a ton of other places in the area that are much nicer, and offer hookups for rvs. Shame on them! read more
