It was good, I didn't like the french fries. Hamburger was ok, but I really have to give credit to the Cheese sticks, they were really good.

Was a great place to eat about 2 to 3 years ago but now it's just nasty the fries are a soggy greasy mess and the food and survive are all around sloppy and not worth spending my hard earned money on !!!! read more

I love Spanky's. I hate to admit that I've now spent two decades eating here (that means I'm old). But the place never changes (except for the massive remodel a few years back). So I was in town for a funeral and a co-worker told me if I was going to Lubbock I had to go by Spanky's and at least get the fried cheese. This was Sunday 7/22/18. We got there at about 8:45pm, only a few tables downstairs. We ordered the fried cheese and burgers. The fried cheese came out in about 10 minutes and was awesome. Then we waited for 40 minutes for our burgers while watching people that had come in 10 minutes after us get their food. We went up several times asking "What's going on?" and was told it would be out soon, but given no explanation to what happened. When it came out it was good, but no burger is worth 45 minutes. Sorry, just isn't. And a only getting a lackluster apology was pretty sad. A good thing would have been to bring my dad another beer on the house or take care of the fried cheese, anything. read more

Don't let the outside fool you. It doesn't look like much of a burger and fries joint from the outside but it is worth a stop. The burger was good and full of flavor. Prices are fair. Their Fried Cheese is life changing and I will remember it forever. It is as af they take a block of mozzarella and fried the whole thing. The batter is a lovely crispy and not too greasy texture. My family and I are snowed in at the Overton and went to Spankys yesterday for the first time. We are from out of town and had heard great things so decided to check it out! And we are so glad we did! They really exceeded our expectations in every area from food to service and hospitality. The monte cristo, cheese sticks and burgers were so good that we ate every bite (we were sad later we didn't have any left over but it was just too yummy!) and the entire staff was just so warm and welcoming. The two girls working even showed special attention to our 3 y/o helping keep him entertained and making him feel special! It was a great experience and maybe I can talk my husband into going out in the blizzard to get me another monte cristo before we leave! =] read more

my bf and i eat here frequently and its usally so yummy and the service is great ! but today we walk in and everyone is so nice as usual then we go upstairs and the girl taking our order was really rude she said nothing to us literally nothing just stare , we didnt even know if she was ready to take our order all we heard was silence then we got drinks and just stared at us saying nothing !! then we told her our drinks then she just set them down and said "root beer , dr pepper" like we are supposed to know which is which . we didnt walk in to order a side of attitude . please be more nice read more

This was our first time out to Lubbock and a good friend suggested we make a stop here. I think I heard the phrase " the best cheese sticks ever" come out of his mouth some five times during the conversation. If nothing else, that made us curious. The cheese sticks were colossal and pretty good- the marinara dipping sauce was really yummy as well. We ordered a grn chili burger and a bacon cheeseburger and enjoyed both. For as long as i've lived in Lubbock, Spanky's was a great place to hang out and eat but in the last decade or so, their quality of service and food has declined. My once favorite Mushroom & Swiss chicken sandwich has changed so much over the years that everytime i order it, it is NEVER the same. For example, on one occasion it had grilled onions and house dressing, the next time it had no grilled onions and mayo...when i ask about the constant variations, NOBODY can explain it to me or they say it's never been any other way however i've ate there since they opened 30 years ago and I am 36! Also, their Staff is Rude especially when you try to place a Call In order. It never fails, they mess up my order and or the person who gets the phone acts as if they are answering the phone at Dick's Resort! My husband had a very had experience here with an employee, the Manager was nice enough to comp me and my family our meal our next visit, and We thought this would be their redemption but instead the food was crappy. Our fries were overcooked and way too crunchy, and again my sandwich was created in a different fashion...where is the consistency!?? The value of the food and service is so bad from what it was 10 yrs ago that i'd rather get a sandwich from a convenience store. The food was really good here and I loved my burger and fries. Service was slow and didn't appear to care very much. Our group waited about 40 minutes for our food after ordering. It has some hole-in-the-wall type charm although I was disappointed in our booth having a wobbly seat. The fried cheese was amazing, but a whole order is plenty enough for a sitting of six people. The Monte Cristo was probably over fried, but wow, it was good. The burgers are great as well. Staff is extremely rude. The manager was sarcastic, mean, and condescending. Food was okay but whataburger across the street is just as good and much cheaper. The restaurant is disgusting with hundreds of forks and knives stuck in the ceiling. Another employee was also very rude and sarcastic as we left. read more

I've been to Spanky's 3 times since i've lived in Lubbock and had a problem all 3 times i've been here. The first two times my fried cheese didn't come out until after we finished our meal and this last time the unobservant cashier didn't take our whole order because she was singing a song on the radio instead of listening to our order. The saving grace of this place is the cheese sticks. The rest is entirely pver priced. I ordered a club sandwich for $8.29, just the sandwich bc they now charge extra for fries. I couldn't believe it! No fries for paying nearly $9 ( with tax). Not only that, it tasted like it had the lowest quality meats and cheeses. Normally I would give Spanky's a pretty good review but this time it really doesn't deserve it. We ate upstairs and the people taking orders were more interested in their own conversation than making sure they got the orders right. We ordered 2 full orders of cheese sticks but only received 1 full order and 1 half order. Our food came out one plate at a time with at least 5 minutes between each delivery. The chicken strips were seriously over cooked. They give you numbers to put on your table so they know where to take each order yet they would walk from table to table asking if what they had in their hand belonged to that table. We went to get refills before leaving and had all 3 of them look right at us and walk off. When we left there was a table of people that ordered before we did that still had not received the correct order. It was ridiculous. A Lubbock institution and I'm sure for many (especially Tech students) it evokes countless positive memories. But, the food is really not that great. It's best known for its burgers and there are many better burger options in town. The atmosphere is pretty grungy, which some might find charming. I'm less enthusiastic. It took 40 minutes to get a grilled cheese sandwich. The cooks don't know how to process orders. People that came in after our group of eight got burgers before my grilled cheese. Servers kept making excuses that they were slammed. Poor management for not being prepared on a game night for extra customers. read more

My husband and I decided to eat at Spanky's to remember the days at Tech. BAD IDEA!! Worst chicken sandwich I have ever had! After waiting over 30 minutes to get our food, the food came out cold. This place has to be the most overpriced restaurant in Lubbock for the quality of the food. The service is terrible and I always have to wait longer than I should for my food. When I get my food it's never that great. My last visit will be my last. I found two pieces of hair in my food.... Disgusting. Will not be going back. Just an average place.
