The 806 Burger Tour went to Tastee Burgers at Clovis Highway and University. It's a little out of the way but if you're looking to be transported back a few years to a true Drive In experience you need to head to Tastee Burgers!! The burgers are terrific! Everything about it reminds me of burgers we got when I was a tad bit younger! Perfect char on the patty, perfectly griddled bun, perfect ratio of veggies to burger! In a word it was perfect! I got the regular single. They have a Jumbo and Doubles for heartier appetites. They fries were awesome as well! I added gravy to mine. An option one doesn't see very often today. Gravy needed some additional Black Pepper but I would say that about pretty much any gravy. Really glad we made the trip over to Tastee Burgers and we'll certainly be back! read more

We ordered a footling chili cheese dog, tater tots and an ice cream cone. Loved it. Hot dog bun was toasted, I really liked the chili, the tater tots were perfectly cooked and you could tell they were cooked in fresh grease not old grease. The tea was fresh and not old. The burger was delicious, and I will probably come back to get another one at some point. I will try to remember to order a different side item next time. I got chili cheese tots, and the chili and cheese seemed like they came straight out of a can and were not very good quality; I've had better at concession stands at high school sporting events. I stopped by here on a quest for the ultimate burger since there are SO many burger joints here in Lubbock. My cousin recommended the place based on taste and value. Upon approaching this local by automobile, there was no drive-thru (a rarity in Texas) nor designated places to park--a free for all if you will. So I parked next to a lone suburban which I assumed belonged to the cook. From the south east side of the building, the place looked closed; but once I was on the other side where I had parked the neon "OPEN" sign dismissed my doubts. I walked up to the window and noticed 3 specials--all of which looked similar to another place I had stopped the previous night before. The no. 1: a regular burger, fries, and medium drink, the no. 2: a jumbo burger, fries and a medium drink, and the no. 3: a double jumbo, fries, and medium drink. all of which were under $8.50 before extras. I should say that I am a cheese burger fan, and I usually opt for this when I test these places out. I do like "plain" hamburgers, and I do realize that they are a completely different beast, but hopefully my descriptions will assist you on your decision to dine here or not. The latina cook took my order after I asked a few questions and made certain requests. Nothing I feel is too complicated, although I know feel maybe be confusing the cooks. And now for the low down: The fries were from a bag--not a complete disappointment, but were not salted nor seasoned. They seemed almost slightly over cooked; they were more to the golden brown rather than golden. Luckily there was salt at the bottom of the bag along with a couple of packets for Hunt's ketchup. The burger was prepared well, although not what I intended. These places have been putting the vegetables on the bottom of the meat rather than on the top. I do ask if the veggies are on top or bottom and I am always told top, but when I get my burger they are on the bottom. I guess they are misunderstanding me; maybe they think on the top of the bun or bottom of the bun. But then that would leave the vegetables on the outside. My request is rather simple--Mustard on the top bun where I am told the veggies go and mayonnaise/salad dressing on the bottom near the meat. This is almost always done wrong. The meat was rather large, not jumbo as I have had at another place. I do wish they would state how much the patty weighed so i can get an idea of how large the burger actually is. The meat was not seasoned. The vegetables were rather fresh, but nothing really caught my eye. The bun was probably the most appealing part of the burger--Toasted on the outside, on the grill most likely and toasty on the inside AND crispy up until the end. The verdict: The jumbo burger was large but not jumbo by any means. Maybe jumbo compared to a McDonalds hamburger. As I got to the end of the burger, I had two bites left that were pretty much hamburger bun. The fries were nothing to wright home about. Maybe tater tots would be a better option. The soft drinks do come with super crushed ice and they do have 99 cent drinks from 2-5pm, but if you are coming here for a first time, the drive thru method may seem confusing if not non-existent to the first time customer. I only became aware once I was closer to the pedestrian window and notice a giant oil spot next to the adjacent window. I might come back if in the neighborhood. But I definitely will not go out of my way to frequent this place with many more options around. read more

Not much to say here....it was a really good burger. About $10 bucks for a large combo with a boatload of crispy fries to boot. Sat in my car & gobbled it up, for there is not seating whatsoever (neither inside our outside). Drive up to order & they call you to the walk up window to pay. No frills=no big whoop!
