Best spicy beef queso I have ever had in Texas! If not for anything else, come here for the queso. I also enjoyed the accompanying chips that were thick cut and made it the perfect vessel to scoop up the delicious creamy queso. Caprock is a Lubbock staple for good reason. The food is phenomenal. However, my recent online ordering experience was disappointing. After placing my order, the system asked for my vehicle information so the food could be brought out. There is also designated carryout parking. The system instructs you to notify the restaurant through a link upon arrival, and the link states that your food will be delivered to your car. After waiting over an hour, even though the estimated pickup time was 15 to 30 minutes, I finally went inside to check on the order. I wanted to be patient since this is a busy restaurant, but the delay was excessive. A waitress informed us that they do not bring food out and that our order had been sitting inside the entire time. When we finally received our food, it was not what we ordered. The burger listing stated that it included all vegetables, so we did not select any additional toppings. However, our burgers arrived completely plain. While I still enjoy Caprock's food, the online ordering and pickup process needs improvement. read more

One of my favorite spots to eat in Lubbock is Orlando's. When I found out Caprock Cafe is a sister restaurant, my son and I had to come check it out. Orlando's specializes in Italian with a twist while Caprock does American/Tex Mex with a southwest twist. I'm usually in town on weekdays and it's always packed here. At this point we expect a wait at alot of the local favorites. Customer service was ok. There's a lot of college kids working and doing their best, but service can be slow. We started off with the Pecos Queso. It's cheese, green chilies and spicy beef. How can you go wrong with that? When I'm in this part of Texas or the Southwest, I'm always on the lookout for anything green chile. I happen to love chicken fried steak and they have it smothered in green chile sauce and cheese. Unconventional but delicious. Sides were kind weak, but my main focus was on the meat. My son loved his Down and Dirty chicken strip wrap as well. This is local comfort food and I'm all for it. Chicken fried steak, fries, sweet potato fries, fried pickles, SIDE SALAD, all just taste and look like they came out of a frozen ziplock bag and tossed in the fryer or onto a grill. If you want to eat somewhere halfway decent definitely keep driving by this place. Reading the reviews I hear I'm in for some vomiting soon now. Wish I read the reviews before walking in. We're from Victoria Texas and we were driving through (on 2-19-25) to make our way ultimately to Las Vegas. Stopped over in Lubbock to visit some friends. Went here and this was the best choice that we could've made! Got greeted and seated very quickly . Beers were nice and cold. Can't remember exactly what burger I ordered but it had cheese, bacon and jalapeños. All good. My wife had the chicken fried steak I believe. Everything that we had was on point. I came her to watch the 2nd half of the Tech game at a limited sitting bar and the bartender told me you can't sit there. I have regulars coming in. I told her I'm a paying customer as well and I have been there regularly as well. I sat down because my Dad was coming to meet me as well who is 78 years old and she treated me like garbage for the get go. She thew down my beer in the counter and I asked her for a beer for my father as well and she slammed his beer on the counter as well without acknowledging him. She then threw an empty bucket on the counter which spilled my father's beer, by the way who is 78 years old, like a tin bucket you serve 5 bottles of beer in and it spilled part of his beer. I said "are you serious"? And she said it was an accident and went to her manager immediately because she knew she was in the wrong and he came out and talked to me and asked me what was going on and I told him what I just stated above and told him that I didn't appreciate how me and my father were being disrespected. He pretty much took her side and said he was going to have a waitress handle our service from here on out, which tells me a lot on how management here. This is not the first incident here as my brother was kicked out because a bartender mistook him for someone else and didn't give him a chance to talk. The manager then came over and apologized and said that she had mistaken him for someone else and that he was welcomed back but that time the embarrassment that it caused him in front of everyone was too much. A few days ago I was in Lubbock (from Austin) for the weekend and I wanted to find a place for dinner with strong cowboy comfort food vibes - and I found it! Caprock Cafe delivered - and I didn't expect anything less. Lubbock is Buddy Holly's hometown after all! I found Caprock Cafe on Google and I'm glad I did because it was exactly what my friends and I needed at the end of a busy, chilly Sunday evening. First, the menu is pretty extensive, so there's bound to be something for everyone in your party. We started with delicious, crunchy mozzarella sticks, then we ordered the chicken quesadilla, the chicken enchilada, a dinner salad, and the homemade brownie sundae to top it all off! I want to take a sec to call out the delicious frijoles charros that came with the quesadilla. Usually I never eat the beans (especially refried) served as restaurants because they taste like they've been sitting there all day, but not these frijoles charros! Ugh, they were so good - I was frankly surprised. Had to ask the server to bring me a container for the bit I didn't get to finish. The brownie was bomb, I just wish they had used Blue Bell ice cream or HEB 1905 Vanilla - LOL just Austin things. All in all, this was a total vibe. We deserve it... nay... it's our God given right. "But," you say, "we have no right to demand free stuff! It costs them money." To that I say, "we can have a compromise. If you charge me for chips and salsa- though nearly all self-respecting Texas establishments don't- then it should be unlimited refills." $5 for chips and salsa should cover MORE than one round. But when I'm charged ANOTHER $5... it's like you don't even know what it means to be a Texan. So hear me, owners of Caprock Cafe. I will gladly revise this to 5 star because I think the quality of food and friendliness of the staff and the fun atmosphere warrant it (my goodness that Chicken Fried Steak was phenomenal). I can't, however, as a Texan, properly endorse an establishment that seeks to greedily profit off of the official snack of The Great State of Texas. It's the principle of the thing, you see? This place was very eh unfortunately. Our waitress was super sweet and she always came back and made sure we were taken care of. Some of the best service I've had. We got some Chips and Queso, Fried Pickle Spears, and I got a hot chicken sandwich of some sort (can't remember the name). They were very eh. The chips and queso were lackluster, the fried pickle spears tasted as if they came frozen from Walmart, and the sandwich was just a sandwich. It didn't have much flavor and I had to drown it in ranch. I guess I could say it is what I expected, but I just wish there was more to this meal than what I got. Great for if you like to eat while you watch a football game, but even for bar food, it was very uninspired. We came here for a business lunch. It was 4 people in our party, we sat at one of the tall tables. Our server, was actually very rude and just seemed annoyed having to help us. She seemed to have the same attitude with her other tables as well. The food was great, took a while to come out but everything was as we ordered.
