This place is pretty cool! I was skeptical of going to a bowling alley, not sure what to expect...but Spare Time in Bristol is a super clean bowling alley. Everything was in good working order and we had a great time playing. Our only complaint was that initially the music was too loud, but after I asked to be moved to a lane that wasn't directly under a speaker, the staff accommodated this request and the volume was much more comfortable. There is also table service where you can get food and drinks while you play. There is an arcade here as well, and the best part in my opinion was the laser tag! I had never played before and it was super fun. Lots to do under one roof, and it is open late (I think 2am on the weekends!). I can't wait to come back. read more

I call to make reservations for 11/28/20 because of the new rules that are in place because of covid and I was transferred twice to two different people for a party of 12 people and the tables were gonna be split and we were okay with that and the manger came over to the table and was very rude about about the table issue. But she had no need to take it out on us cause it's not our fault that you can't be a manager and not have everything set up in time even tho I called 24 hours ahead of time and the party was at 5pm. The manager was very unprofessional and rude and I'll never be going there again. It stuck how managers can run a business in to the ground and not even care. read more

On one hand, I'm glad spare time and places like this get to be open. On the other hand, there is no forced social distancing and I saw a whole family walking around without masks. I felt very unsafe and overwhelmed and all I did was go to bring my son to a small birthday party. The arcade area was packed with barely any room to walk let alone social distance. They have games turned off for social distancing purposes but that doesn't matter when you have hoards of people bunched together all over making it impossible to even have a normal amount of personal space. Definitely avoid this place on the weekend if you are taking the virus seriously. read more

We didn't bowl or play games so this review pertains only to the bar. My mom and I were having a really rough day and we just needed to get out of the house for a bit and Spare Time was a close place that was open. We don't usually go out because of Covid but I'm glad we did. First, the bar area was Covid-compliant with tables spread out and all staff masked up. The nachos were what you'd expect, nothing fancy but they were tasty. We liked the winter sangria cocktail too. But I really came here to tell you about Kasey the bartender. She was the ray of sunshine we needed on a rough day. She was personable and friendly. She even took the time to listen to our little sob story with genuine compassion. She went well and beyond for us and we will not forget it. Pretty standard arcade/bowling alley mashup. We played the arcade games for a few hours and blew through a little under $200 (one adult, one child). There was a decent selection of arcade games, and the Halo Fireteam Raven game was our favorite by far. It's a really fun experience for avid Halo fans, but they were missing the QR scanners to connect your XBOX account to receive rewards. The only reason for knocking off two stars is because the redemption area where you turn your tickets in for prizes is possibly one of the most pathetic things I've seen in my whole life. It looks like someone had good intentions to start, but the entire area is small, neglected, and the only selections are cheap garbage (more so than would be expected for an arcade redemption area, which already has a low bar for expectations set to begin with). There aren't even super cool (yet unattainable) prizes on display that make you excited to try to find something you want. You don't even get real tickets any longer - they're just credited to your card. Even after racking up a bunch of ticket credits on the card, my kid only chose a small container of slime and decided to save the rest of the balance because there was nothing else worth selecting. Great place to go if you're only looking to play the arcade games, but be forewarned that the prize selections at the end absolutely suck. I can't speak to the bowling experience at all. read more

The party planner kayla was fantastic, the bar server was terrible. We went to chase her, was told for over an hour she would be by. She socialized with a lane 3 lanes down for the entire time. Then when she came by she did not know anything they served at the bar. It was not because they were understaffed, the staff was just not working. Took 20 minutes at front to pay my bill. I often attend a monthly bowling meetup here on Sunday nights and so far, I'm pleased. They've done a lot with this place over the years, like adding laser tag and an arcade. I love the Vernon location and this one is catching up for sure, which is great since it's a heck of a lot closer to me than Vernon! $10 or so for unlimited games of bowling is a steal, since I've gone to bowling alleys in other areas and states with friends for what we thought was going to be a cheap date and ended up paying $40-$50 for 2 or 3 games! People think CT is so freaking expensive for everything but between $10 bowling at Spare Time and $20 for all you can eat sushi places galore, I think in that regard we're pretty darn ahead of the game! The food is a little pricy, but I will say that their pulled pork mac and cheese is absolutely delicious and their pizza is one of the few that I can even eat cold and still keep down. The bar usually has some pretty good deals too on wings or beer. The staff has always been super nice, even towards our really large group and the manager has always been super accommodating and friendly. I haven't been in a few months but I certainly appreciate everything Spare Time does to make these bowling meetups memorable and fun so that I always feel welcome to return when I can. P.S.- Since our group is big on dressing up, I LOVE that one time they had a staff member dress up in the giant bowling pin costume and come out and dance with us! How cute is that?! read more

Hello - this is a great spot to entertain kids indoors. I hosted a birthday party for 13 year olds and it went over very well. The party host Amber did everything and I didn't even really need to be there! The party came with pizza, drinks, bowling for 1 hour 45 minutes, laser tag, $5 arcade GC for each kid, a souvenir autographed bowling pin. It was fun and no hassle. Bring your own cake. Excellent place- currently undergoing construction, but filled with great activities for the kids (my daughter has been to 2 laser tag parties- there is also bowling for everyone including kids' parties) and an AWESOME bar area for the adults. My son was having a meltdown at a kid's birthday party, we excused ourselves, and I was able to get him a kid's meal in the bar area to help calm him down- the bartender was FANTASTIC!!! He clearly read my frustration and helped calm down my child (age 4)- and gave him an arcade card for $5 because my son finally "behaved". I will be back soon!!! read more

Had my sons birthday party this weekend. It was great! We had 15 kids and they split them between three lanes. It was so nice to see that they help you with everything and you just have bring the cake. They hand out everything and organize everything!!! It was very clean! The only suggestion I would have is to not split two parties between a shared lane. The kids were confused as to what lane they bowl on and who belonged to which party. Walked in for the first time tonight and was greeted by Joe who informed us on the daily deals and events going on here! He was super nice and very prideful about Spare Time. I asked Joe if he was the owner and he said he's only been working for 6 days! He was very professional and charming. He was so friendly to all the customers and held down the fort even though the place was completely packed. The place is clean, fun, and family friendly. We enjoyed beers and some fried pickles. One of the cleanest bowling areas around. They have great deals for kids. During the summer parents can sign their children up for free bowling. Each week they will email you a coupon for each child and that gets you two games. Most children don't have an attention span to play more than two games so it works out well. It's a pretty cool place for both kids and adults. I've been there a few times and the place is actually clean compared to some of the other bowling arenas in Central CT. We've taken kids from work and they have been very accommodating with coming up with a special nonprofit package. Lanes and balls are well maintained. Bowling alleys generally gross me out because many of them are greasy and sticky. The staff at this location was a very good job. They have nice pool tables and cool arcade games. Trust me when I say they have amazing deals. Mon - Wed from 830PM to close they have $1 games. Catch is you pay a fee of $3 per person and must pay a $2 shoe rental. Any game after that is $1. Thurs- $13 per person gets you unlimited bowling and unlimited pizza slices. Starts at 9PM till close. Includes shoe rental. Fri- $54.95 per lane gets you 2 hours of bowling, a large pizza and a pitcher of soda. Special runs from 6PM - 8PM. If it weren't for the location I would LOVE this bowling alley. Friday and Saturday nights from 10:30-2am it is $17/person for unlimited bowling and the arcade/laser tag are half off! Regular bowling prices are a bit hefty ($4.50 a game and $4 shoe rentals). I recently coordinated a graduation event for 50 people at Spare Time and I was incredibly pleased with our experience. Amy the events coordinator had a lot of great ideas and was very flexible and accommodating of our party. She worked with our budget and provided very reasonable group discounts for bowling, laser tag, and arcade. Additionally, Amy worked with her staff to help coordinate a signature cocktail for our celebration and helped to suggest very helpful recommendations for food. Given our food budget I was apprehensive about having enough snacks for everyone, but we ended up having food leftover thanks to Amy's suggestions. On the day of our event the City Sports Grille was decorated with balloons representing our school colors and there was a large sign bearing our name. I also had people sign up for assigned lanes in advance and the front desk clerk, Jasmine, and assistant, Bailey, seamlessly helped everyone to sign in, pick up shoes, and directed guests to their appropriate bowling lane. Jasmine and Bailey immediately notified me of any issues or problems and all attendees had nothing but wonderful comments about how pleased they were with their experience. Given our large crowd Amy and her staff even graciously offered each of our guests $5 arcade cards, which everyone loved! I will now break down the elements of Spare Time by category for those interested in specific activities: Bowling - AWESOME. We had 2 hours of bowling which included shoe rental. The lanes and seating areas were very clean and there was a wide selection of bowling balls of different weights and sizes to choose from. The bowling software was easy to use and very advanced as it provided data on your bowling for each game. Staff provided water for us and were kind enough to help clear our plates and drinks. Laser Tag - FANTASTIC. Amy and staff rotated our group into three rotations to make sure everyone played a game of laser tag while the rest continued bowling. Each game is about 15-20 minutes and can accommodate ~20 people at a time. The equipment was easy to use and everyone had a blast! The arena itself is very large with lots of hiding places and exceeded many people's expectations (including my own). Our entire party were young adults and everyone left the arena sweating and breathless remarking how much fun they had! Arcade - GREAT. Spare Time is advanced in that they use swipe cards instead of cash, tokens, and tickets, which makes playing games much more seamless and enjoyable. There were a ton of games to choose from and the pricing was very reasonable for each game. Cards keep track of token points, which are "cashed in" at a very impressive redemption store. The redemption store had everything from candy to cheap toys and games, but there is something for everyone to choose from. Food - DELICIOUS. We ordered boneless buffalo wings, jalapeno poppers, mozzarella sticks, and the nacho bar for our event. While the food certainly was not the healthiest of selections, everything was very tasty and flavorful without being greasy or soggy. Multiple attendees came up to me to remark how surprisingly delicious the food was even though we were at a "bowling alley." There was also a large craft beer selection (with on par pricing) that featured both 16 oz. and 22 oz. pours. Bottom line is the City Sports Grille is no joke, it's truly a restaurant and full service bar. The facility itself was very clean and organized, especially given the foot traffic that runs through there each week, and all the staff that I interacted with were helpful and courteous.
