So so fun!! I saw online that they have $4/game bowling Sun-Thur 11a-1p so headed on down. What I didn't realize is that at noon they turn on all the disco lights, which was so fun!!! Drinks are crazy expensive ~ fountain drink was $4, so maybe bring your own drinks. This review is for the bowling alley and snack bar, we did not go inside the separate bar area. We walked in and were greeted by the man at the front desk who was helpful in explaining the daily special bowling package. There were six of us, but a few kids so we really only wanted one lane. He pointed us to the $70 special which included two hours of bowling, shoes, a large pizza, and pitcher of soda. We went for it and were given shoes. The bowling alley was clean for bowling alley standards, and was decently busy for a Sunday afternoon. There was a really diverse range of people there as well. About half way through bowling we went to the counter and ordered our pizza. The young man at the counter took our order and I think he had a cold or something because he kept sniffling the entire time I was ordering, and then he wiped his nose with his hand while he was pouring our soda. Wasn't too thrilled about that. We then went back for bowling while our pizza was cooking. It didn't take long before our pizza was delivered. I have to say it is some of the worst pizza I've ever tasted. Frozen pizza out of a box tastes significantly better than this pizza did. We finished our pizza, returned to our bowling, and called it a day. Overall the bowling alley was great, a little on the expensive side in my opinion, but great nonetheless. The food (specifically the pizza) would not be an experience I repeated, and in fact, was beyond terrible, so eat before you come or eat after! read more

My husband and I chose to hold our rehearsal dinner at Spare Time Northampton last month. We wanted to have a casual, fun night and we thought bowling would be a great way to get all these people talking and bonding the night before the wedding. Gordon had come to this bowling alley over ten years ago when he was in college in Amherst and it was called Northampton Bowl. Let me tell you, from his stories, this place has had a management change and a major facelift. Never having been there before we reserved the night for our party and then visited in August, I was afraid it might be like other small town bowling alleys I'd been in- dark, dingy and reeking of cigarettes. But this was NOT the case. It's clean, colorful, well-lit and fun! There are arcade games and a bar where they have bands come in. Everything was all set the week before the wedding- we'd emailed with the manager to make sure we were all set up, our food was ordered and it was fine. However, when we got there, no one seemed to know we were coming. The assistant manager was notified, he came over and told us he'd take care of everything. We told him our menu and let him know we wanted the food as soon as possible. It took about an hour. People were hungry, but the bowling and drinks kept them occupied. They gave us a slightly deeper discount because of the confusion/miscommunication, which was nice. The ass. manager told me that some things they make on the premises and some things they order from outside places. Not sure where the wings came from, but they were delicious! Everyone raved about them! Overall, the food was pretty good for a bowling alley and we all had a great time. Another interesting note: not a black bowling ball in sight! They're all fun colors. This was new to someone who hasn't bowled in years. Definitely fun. Gordon and I had such a great time, we went back the night after the wedding, just the two of us. read more

What a great New Years night. We signed up for the special which was $20/person, 4 person minimum, 1 large pizza, 8pm-10pm. The pizza was ok. I wouldn't order a pizza from them again. The music was great and they gave out prizes throughout the 2 hours. What a great experience. read more

After a hard day of work in Northampton, we decided to stop in and bowl a few frames. We dropped in on a Saturday evening and we're surprised at how quiet it was. The staff was pleasant but a bit absent during our stay. The prices were a bit expensive, but in the future we will come on their all you can bowl/eat pizza night. The best part of our bowling experience was the fact that we picked up a few brews at their bar and took it to our lane. In the end, not the best or worst bowling experience we have had. read more

This is a review specifically of the bar and grill and the jazz event hosted on Tuesday evenings there... Excellent music, but guard your wallets: The hosting establishment is either sneaky or incompetent. Yesterday, Feb 18, 2020, after seeing the following information above on this Facebook page: "Every Tuesday, Sep 19, 2017 - Dec 26, 2017 Event ended about 2 years ago." I thought it prudent to call to see if 1) The event was still ongoing and 2) If there's still a cover charge and how much. I was informed by a representative from the bowling alley that the event was still ongoing and there was no cover charge. Let me be crystal clear: The representative employee from Spare Time Northampton and City Sports Grille said in unequivocal terms, in response to a direct question, that there is NO cover charge. Later in the evening, after a thoroughly enjoyable jazz show, I was of course, charged the $5 house fee that they said wasn't going to be charged. After I paid in full, I pointed out very nicely to the server that this isn't a good thing to do to a customer. She seemed to hear me and seemed sympathetic and said she'd go right away to talk to the manager. I stayed for another 20-30 minutes after but didn't see either the waitress or the manager again that night (It wasn't busy at that time). In the end, despite a thoroughly enjoyable show, nice atmosphere, etc., I left feeling cheated. So, my parting thought is this: You can catch a really good jazz event here, but the hosts are not to be trusted. The fee is reasonable for the event, and I would have happily paid it if it were presented honestly. Unfortunately, as much as I love jazz, I dislike the gross feeling of used-car-salesmanship even more and I won't be returning. I truly wish they had talked to me then, when I raised the issue directly. read more

Went to Spare Time tonight for the first time. We went to the bar first and had a couple drinks and dinner. The bar tender was extremely welcoming and kind, she seemed happy to see us (we were the only ones in at the time). The bar/seating area looks like a true sit down restaurant, lots of TV's, tables, and a full bar. Your food is coming from the "snack bar", but don't let this phrase concern you about the food quality. It was cooked to order in the small kitchen and very good! Only one man was working, and he too was very nice when taking my order, and he did a great job on the food. We had a chicken wrap, chicken sandwich, and fried macaroni bites. We both got a great portion of frys with our sandwiches (hand cut right there), couldn't stop eating them. Really good prices for the drinks and food. Bowling was fun, in a clean newer looking environment. The staff at the desk was all smiles and more than friendly. Another employee even came over to help us when he saw we were having troubles with the score computer, I didn't have to go find someone. Fun time! Could use a hard core remodel to bring it up to date with the decor but it felt like old school bowling. Kept clean for the most part and had plenty of balls to choose from. Was pretty busy on a Saturday afternoon, we played 3 games and it came to $20 each person. Got bar food, fries and onion rings, and were super satisfied with the taste! When we got here and started bowling we were repulsed by the horrible generic Creed-esque radio rock that was playing. My friend went to complain and came back unsure of what would happen next. We go to Spare Time Bowling as a family once in a while and it's always a nice time and never too crowded. Recently I held my son's birthday party there and it was a really great time. The service was really really good. They assigned a person to assist with our party and she was incredibly helpful. She was great at coping with the unexpected glitches that happen and made the party go super smoothly. I received a lot of emails from the other moms telling me their kids had a great time. My son is already hoping to have his next birthday party there, and I'm definitely a fan. read more

I planned a night out bowling for all of my staff, and I was highly disappointed by the quality of service we received. A few days before the outing I called Spare Time to reserve lanes, as that we had a large party of about 20 people. I have done this a couple of times before at other bowling alleys (shaker bowl, amf lanes Chicopee) and I've never had a problem, so I thought that this place would probably be the same. I spoke to a man on the phone who rudely informed me that they do not take reservations and if we were to arrive at our planned time of 1030 "we'd be lucky if we even got one lane." He said that people usually get there around 930 to sign up, even though galactic bowling starts at 10. He was very cold and abrupt with me on the phone, and did not even try to be the least bit accommodating. Anyway, one of my employees offered to go at 930 and reserve 4 lanes for us, but when she got there he said they were already sold out. He explained that our only option was to wait over an hour and we could only get 2 lanes. We decided we'd wait, since almost everyone was already there, and as we waited we saw more people walk in after us and get lanes next to eachother. Once again, the man was very rude to all of us. We eventually got 2 lanes and we made the most of the time we had, but I'll take my business elsewhere next time. The parking situation was terrible too. We go around 4-5 times a month. Mostly weekdays. Its quite and nice at that time. The staff is great. They help with a lot of stuff, even with advice on how to bowl better. The food is pretty good considering its bowling alley food. I love the snack bar staff. The cooks are always very friendly. My only gripe is with parents. Often parents are letting kids use the lanes as a playground, allowing them to climb the dinosaur ramp thing that helps them bowl and turning it into a slide. Plus they allow kids to walk in front of other lanes. I lost count how many times I almost bowled right into a kid running in front of my lane. Parents, please watch your kids. Its for THEIR safety! Teach them bowling etiquette. Otherwise the alley is fun and we always have a good time. read more
