Getting drinks for a group of 8 at the bar took about 20 mins/ there was only 1 bartender for awhile. When waitservice did start drink service was still pretty slow. Not sure if this is the spot for avid bowlers but was fun for a recreational experience . They had an arcade with various arcade games to choose from, but seems like you always end up with money left on your "arcade card". Drinks were pretty cheap though not very strong for the cocktails. Food portions were pretty big for the plates to share, though pretty average in quality. We tried the nachos and tater tots. Overall, would return.

We had a lot of fun. The place was mostly empty, so we had different activities to ourselves and minimal wait times. The laser tag was fun. Kiddo wanted to be against me, so I was tag teamed. Ha ha! The Escape room was challenging. We had to use some hints to solve it, but I'd definitely do another theme there in the future, as it was worth the energy and time put in. You have an hour to solve the puzzles. Bowling was big ball, which we don't get to do very often. One great thing is that the bumpers are set to put up and down automatically based on the player. Went somewhere recently where they had to be up the whole time or down...that was frustrating. The staff here were great! Very friendly and professional. Extremely helpful. We are looking forward to another visit in the future.

A classic Candlepin Bowling alley and family owned Mom & Pop shop in every sense. The decor…read morereflects a time when the game was at its peak and was the 'in' thing to do on a Friday night instead of sitting at home watching TV or playing video games. The lanes themselves are well maintained in terms of finish and mechanics of the pinsetting equipment considering the business has been in operation for OVER 50 YEARS. They do lack automatic scoring, however in Candlepin bowling, automatic score systems are not always accurate due to the the use of felled pins in subsequent shots. Frankly, if you have a problem with writing on a piece of paper to keep score and think that is a reason to complain, you're a moron. Additionally they have a nice array of Brunswick tournament class billiard tables. There is also a bar and lounge with a decent selection for such a small operation and everything is modestly priced. My only reason for giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because their hours fluctuate unpredictably. Generally one can find them open on a weekend afternoon, but if you're looking for something to do after 10PM, it's rare that they're open that late. I highly recommend a quick call prior to arriving to confirm availability. Do yourself a favor and experience the classic New England tradition known as Candlepin Bowling at Canal Lanes.

This place has character, and character does require some patience. When balls returned, sometimes the hopped off into the neighboring lane and came hurdling at you, which was frightening and amusing. There were issues with the pin reset. But on the flipside, this was an incredibly neighborly, welcoming place, even for an outsider like me. Note: summertime hours are spotty, so be sure to call before coming.

I usually skip the pretzel, but I'm happy we got it because it was soft and had the perfect amount of salt. The nachos and burger took a super long time to come out. I think they were waiting to bring them out together, but that just led to soggy nachos and a lukewarm burger. The chips that weren't soggy were pretty good and the added chili was good for flavor. Drinks were good! I can't remember the specific one that I got but it was Apple flavored and perfect for the fall. They serve 32 ounce beer mugs and it was hilarious next to my tiny wine glass. I would check them out again if I were in the area and looking for this kind of atmosphere.

It cost $50/hour including shoe rental. Staffing seemed sparse and it really took a while for someone to acknowledge the 2 of us, and no one at least greeted us and let us know they'd help us shortly. It was a Sunday in April and the place was about half full. There are only about 10 lanes. No one ever came over to take a drink or food order but that could've been because I exclaimed how expensive it was for one hour of bowling. According to the April Vacation Special it seemed like I should've gotten apps but all I got was bowling & shoe rental. However, we had fun. The automated scoring, pin setup, ball return were in working order. There's lots of bowling ball weights and finger hole sizes to choose from. There's a GIGANTIC TV with some seating so it was nice to catch the Bruins game after we finished bowling.
