I hit up a six thrift stores this morning, this being my last one and it saved me. I had spent the morning at various resale shops trying to find a dress to wear for a Mad Men themed dinner party a coworker is holding in a couple of months. I've been requested to dress up as Joan and that's the kind of dress I was trying to find. Now I don't know what you'll get from this - but I found the PERFECT dress for Joan here for $12. Sparrows Nest reminded me a lot of Goodwill in the size, way it is set up and variety & quality of items plus the prices...I think it was all on par with them. Just like so many other resale shops, it's for a great cause. It's open to support homeless women & their children. They had SO many glassware and dish items, some furniture, a separate kids section, tons of craft items and baskets and a lot of clothing. 'Twas completely by chance I found this dress but they have a lot of pretty nice prom dresses from various time periods. The workers here were just fine, not overly friendly but not rude in any way. Plus there is a 10% Yelp Check In offer! Woot!

I try not to be too judgy when it comes to a place and it's previous reviews, but I'll be honest, less than 3-stars here seems kind of nutso. Get real, Folks. This ain't Neiman Marcus and to feel like you're going to get the service or selection of that, well, (again) get real Holmes. First, they work to help victims of domestic violence, so right there there's no cause for anything less than a 3. Second, it's about as immaculate as I've ever seen for a resale shop. Third, it's a freakin' hospital-grade resale store. They sell keepsakes that people clearly gave to to their grandmama before they passed because they've been edited with a Bic pen to say 'Grandmama' and not just 'Grandma' and beyond just scary wedding dresses, they sell home-goods and cribs and jewelry and quite a few items that I was tempted to buy- including an original (still in ripped plastic) Operation Dumbo Drop movie theater poster. Dennis Leary- these 4-stars are for you... and the awesome Costa Rican cruise drink glasses and Mandarin hat with ponytail attached in the back. So many awesome wins. I never really buy sh*t from used places because it feels like too much of a reminder of growing up poor, but I almost broke down for this sweet L.E.I. jean jacket, the Dumbo Drop poster and this awesome flik flak-style watch with a revolving tomahawk... still not sure why I passed that up. They don't really have too many menswear items, but they're rich with trinkets and women's and home and baby items that are better than most used items. If you're looking for better grade items, don't be so cheap and head to fancy store with your big buck-high expectations before you knock Sparrow's Nest and their charitable ways with anything less than a 3.

I like the cause they represent, supporting women and children that might be homeless or in need of refuge.

I went into Annie's Resale for the World yesterday not knowing anything more than they were a resale shop. It turns out that their profits go to several charities around the globe educating children, providing food, shelter and emergency relief to families, and strengthening local churches and community programs. A section in the shop is dedicated to photos, books & explanations of the various causes they are supporting. I walked in and Annie greeted me instantly. She was so warm & kind to me and everyone that came through. One gentlemen came in wanting to do consignment and although they don't do that, she was so helpful to him in directing him to another spot. She let me pick a coupon out of a bowl and I got 20% off my order, plus she gave me a 10% off for my next visit. I heard her explain the shop's mission to several people, including myself. They've been open just 10 months and she said the community has been great with supporting them and giving donations. She didn't realize what hard work it is to run a retail store...but I'm sure it more than pays off in the end! I must say they have some great merchandise and it's SO well priced. The selection was very well organized, very clean, tons of brand new items and the prices are just fantastic. I saw a ton of cute earrings for $2 including many new pairs. I found a really cute fall dress for $13 that is in new condition. She was telling me that the donator brought in 6 of the exact same dress and this was the last one - Score! Baby clothes were just $1 each. Their dressing rooms are much nicer than any I've seen in any retail store, let alone a thrift shop. Beautiful curtains on the doors and nice seats inside, beautiful mirrors and decor. I was shocked when I went in to try on my dress! Anyone going to this small shop can be confident they are getting a great price, clean & well worth it merchandise and you should feel warm & fuzzy inside knowing you've helped in some tiny way. Annie's Resale for the World is just across the street from me so I see myself popping in here quite a bit! You can also volunteer here a few hours each week!

The only reason I knew this place existed was because a friend of mine volunteers here. If she…read morehadn't told me about it, I'm not sure I would have ever bothered to check it out. You can't tell much from the outside, but inside, you discover the heart of this organization. Yelp needs to know about this place!! This is not Goodwill. It's not a large store filled with tons of kitschy and mediocre clothes. Nothing is broken. There are no holes. There are no disinterested employees. It is small. It is cute. It is a little pricier than typical resale stores. It is hit or miss. But it is amazing. The clothes are high-quality. Books and media are in great shape. The jewelry is exquisite. The staff is so friendly and attentive. And they have dressing rooms! Beautiful dressing rooms with cute curtains and little lamps. And purple! Lots of purple. The thing that really sets this place apart from other resale shops are the partners -- people on missions all over the world. When the items within the shop are sold, the proceeds are donated to different partners across the globe: leaders that are educating children, providing food, shelter, and relief to families, and strengthening local churches and community programs. So if you really want to give back to the community, I mean REALLY give back -- to the world, consider stopping here for some of your purchases or donations.

There's something fabulous about going through these bins of random products not knowing what you will find. The experience was super fun. The people who go there can be real a$$ holes so I do not think that's a reflection of the business, but just lousy people can be. You hear the big winners who win things like an iPad or a PlayStation or something but if you set your expectations to be reasonable for a $20-30 item that's $6-8 then I feel like I won ( over 50%off!) What did I get? Korak Legos ( over $20), a visual timer( over 50), and a picture box (about $30) for signs that change color which sadly did not have all the letters so will require a little extra work to print up new letters in Order to use the product Because today was eight dollar day, I went big and bought a mystery box. The unboxing was so much fun. Just the horror on my husband's face while I unpacked was worth every penny. But I did find some great deals like insect killer refill that works for the exact product, we have at home. We got swimsuits and 12 really nice iPhone cases that are exactly the same, hiking shoes that fit, my friend, dog food, snacks, Mom blankets. I think a total of three, and a Mom plaque that says I love you. I felt that the store loved me more than the love my family shows me because I've never had so many products in one place in my life. I included a photo of part of me unboxing box. Rule number one, do not open the box. They will open it for you in the back and you can check it out like I said there's some really lousy people there. Who cannot follow the rules and are super rude. They will kick you out if you break the rules Oh and 3 of the cutest babies who were so so good despite the chaos

I would warn if you visit that you may get hit by shopping carts by distracted people. There is a rule that you can't open the boxes yourself, so grab your boxes quickly and then wait in the line for the opener. The owner was really nice, when we told him it was my husband's birthday he gave us a free $8 item. I got some great deals on some home organization pieces that would normally sell for $35. Overall lots of fun!
