Our Charleston based tour planner and staff at our Beaufort B and B raved about Janet's tour and how she brings the city of Beaufort and its magnificent homes and history to life. Unfortunately her delegate who gave us our tour on June 5 was UNACCEPTABLE. I believer we would have enjoyed our two hours more just walking around on our own. We learned more of Beaufort's history, houses and residents on our Dolphins Adventures Tour than we did with this replacement guide. There were only 4 of us on the tour and the guide spent the entire time talking with two phd child psychology students, a couple, trying to impress them with his knowledge of their field of study. He spent more time on this than talking about Beaufort. We traditionally love walking tours as it allows for engagement with the guide etc. We were ignored like we were not even on the tour zero engagement the exact opposite of every other one of our tours on our two week trip. . A church was unlocked for us to walk in. Unfortunately a number of others sauntered in the open door and we had to wait a good 15 minutes while the others moseyed around the interior used the bathroom (queued) etc. as our guide had to wait until they left. Because he had to lock up.

Parking was easy to find in the waterfront marina departure point. Raul led the tour, and did a decent job in covering the history of Beaufort and going over both history and architecture of homes in the area, as well as pointing out where some movies were filmed locally. I liked that the tour ventured out of the historic part of town to go to the Beaufort National Cemetery, as it's one of those places people visiting would otherwise likely skip out on. Overall, I'd rate the tour 4 stars, as I didn't like it as much as other Atlantic coastal town tours I've done in the past (Southport, for example), and this tour was a bit more expensive in comparison (but still worth it). I also thought it was a bit much to be told to leave a review by the guide, and also receive messages via both email and text message to review as well.

Her stories of growing up in the Gullah Geechee community on Daufuski and being taught by Conroy were amazing. It was like having the book come alive for 3 hours. The hour Ferry ride to the island was also very enjoyable. Definitely one of the highlights of our vacation in Beaufort, SC.

Sea Island Carriage Company provides tours of Downtown Beaufort. I liked that the carriage had…read morestairs to make it easier to get on the carriage and that we all were provided head sets so that we could hear the tour guide. This tour did not cover as much of Downtown Beaufort as the other tour I took or provide as much history but it was fun and I learned different tidbits. Angus was the horse that took us around. The horses are well cared for and if it gets too hot in the summer the tours are stopped. I'd recommend this tour while in Beaufort.

They do a good job of working on the bikes but make sure you get the total price written down…read morebefore dropping your bike off. Brought two bikes to the shop to get worked on. One needed tubes and tires and another needed just new tubes but no tires. They said a tune up would be a good route but ended up having to pay very similar prices for both bikes even though one had to get brand new tires. Very friendly as the owner mentioned a a discount for the service but ended up paying more than we were quoted even with a discount. Just make sure they are clear with you on pricing.

The first time I visited Hilton Head, my family took this sunset cruise because we received a…read morevoucher after our time share presentation. For nostalgic reasons, I decided to treat the family to one on our visit to Hilton Head this year. We were fortunate to find a parking space in the parking lot near the Lighthouse at Sea Pines. We walked around a bit until one of the benches in the harbor opened up. The family stayed there while I went to figure out where to get onto the boat. This gave me the opportunity to take some pictures in the harbor. When we boarded the boat, we were guided to a table on the lower deck which was air conditioned. The sun was blazing through the window and we unfortunately did not have a shade that we could pull down like there were at some of the other tables. We made the best of it. Our server was very friendly. He explained that he was working to meet people and to see what he could learn. By the end of the trip, he exchanged information with my son. The meal was surprisingly good. I was skeptical and thought that it might be bland because it was mass produced. Every dish was prepared well and had good flavor. Everyone in my party truly enjoyed their meals. The sights are tremendous. We saw a few dolphins while the boat was underway. The sunset was breathtaking. I definitely recommend this experience.

I'm local and live in Sea Pines so I love the convenience of this boat service but in summer months…read moreparking can be awful in Harbortown so I rarely plan these at that time. BUT, the 9 am cruise to Savannah is my friends and my favorite cruise. I wish it was every day of the week but I believe it is just 2 days a week. It is a great way to see the inter-coastal water ways, you have 4 hours to visit Savannah, get a great lunch and a pleasant ride back to HHI in time for dinner on the island. They also offer tickets on board for the Old Town trolley in Savannah if you prefer that to walking-we have all already done that at other times when we've road tripped to Savannah. But that is nice for visitors new to Savannah to see the sights and hear the history plus you can get on and get off at different places which is nice. I have also taken friends on the afternoon Dolphin cruise which they loved. The best time is on Saturday in the summer, I believe, since less busy with visitors leaving and arriving and they are not thinking about cruises. The captains really search for different pods of dolphins while engaging with their guests.

They allowed our 90lb dog which was very kind in the close quarters of a speedboat! There is a whole procedure of parking away from the terminal (since it is so crowded nearby) and boarding at the terminal dock. They were mostly on time and had a helpful friendly attitude. My child fell asleep on the ride so it was smooth and calming enough! My only negative was we'd have appreciated more departure options and flexibility to change times if needed (provided there is room). We had trouble finding a lot of info on things to do with kids on Daufuskie (we learned there is not a lot for them; it is more for Boomers to drink) so we would've valued being able to return sooner, but it is what it is. Just the only drawback we had with service options. But we definitely recommend to others.

The new ferry operator "Low Country Ferry" was put together and operated by a very inexperienced…read moreperson. Not sure how they were able to get this contract. But the fact they bid $375K versus the previous experienced operators ' $ 1M shows how Beaufort County picked the lowest bid versus the most qualified operator. My recommendation for anyone wanting to get to Daufuskie is use Island Head or other operators.
