Rated #1 activity to do on Tybee Island and it was easy to see why. At one point we had TWELVE dolphins jumping behind our boat. They said that was a bit unusual, so we certainly picked the right day to take a boat out. The crew was great and the boat far from overcrowded. -They do that on purpose. I booked a Tybee Island tour from Savannah with Kelly Tours via Viator, which included several great visits and a boat cruise to see dolphins with Captain Derek's Dolphin Adventure. Our boat captain was Gator and Cass was his first mate. They were both great! They obviously know the area well and took us to several places where dolphin pods appeared, as well as pointed out a few highlights of the area along the way. If dolphins were mainly on one side of the boat, Captain Gator would turn the boat to give everyone a chance to see the same pods, assuming the dolphins cooperated and stayed put. Cass helped by calling out locations of the dolphins with time (the position of the little hand on a clock). I have several video clips and hopefully I was able to upload one of them, but this is a very worthwhile tour and experience. Captain Derek's is the way to go, and maybe you'll get Captain Gator and Cass as your boat staff! read more

Had a fun time out on the water watching the dolphins! We were out for about an hour with captain Gator and got to see a pod of 5-6 dolphins. For someone who gets seasick, I didn't feel any nausea and it was an easy fairly smooth ride. read more

I paid for captain derrick, I expect to get captain derick! This is the only complaint I have. The lady on the boat was very cool and nice! They pointed out the dolphins to everyone and turned the boat so everyone could see. That being said, we say TONS of dolphins! At least one dolphin or pod every minute or two! They would get close enough to the boat for us to even see their faces! The only downside was the rowdy group of preschoolers doing a summer camp that went on our tour. However they couldn't control that as staff. Overall this was really great! read more

First Mate Emmie educated us with facts about dolphins, birds, Cockspur lighthouse, and Tybee Island and beaches. They both played off each other well. Best sspot on the boat is in front of the windshield if you can handle the sun. We would highly recommend this tour. They even accept leashed well behaved dogs and you can bring your own drink on board. There's a bathroom on board as well. It was all around a great experience. This was a lot of fun and informative. Saw a bunch of dolphins early on. Perfect hour and a half. Took my 6-year-old, and she had a blast. Even with the weather not cooperating (rained on and off, temp in the low 60s), still a lot of fun (we also had our wet weather gear, but there is plenty of covered seating. And it's a good size boat. Probably 20 people on it. Very safe and not a lot of sway. I'll definitely do it again. Great to take visitors too. read more

I oversee a group of guide dog puppies in training from Dogs Inc and we recently set up a tour with Captain Derek's to give our puppies exposure to boats, docks, etc. Stephanie at Captain Derek's was SO incredibly helpful in getting this set up. She offered us a specialty time to go out on to ensure that it wouldn't be too crowded for our puppies and made sure we had everything all set for our trip. When we got there, our captain and first mate were so welcoming and accommodating to our puppies in training. They asked before petting our pups to ensure it was okay and did all they could to ensure our puppies and people had an incredible time.
