I *LOVE* this place. Plain and simple. I moved to Briarcliff (after living in DC forever) last summer and needed to find a new hairdresser. I'd been with my old hairdresser (who, in my estimation, walks on water, so anyone new would have to clear a pretty high bar) for 20 years and was nervous about going to someone new. I chose Zokkoz, initially, because it was an Aveda salon and I figured that would be a good start. I got an appointment with Jillian, the salon's owner, to touch up my color, which had been custom-blended for me by the aforementioned god-like colorist/hairdresser in DC. Though it was a color unique to me, Jillian was able to match it *perfectly*. PERFECTLY! I was thrilled. Add [to the great color] a sassy short cut and I was delighted. After that first visit, I was sold. I see Jillian for a cut and/or color about once a month -- most recently, she took my vibrant red to a bold black with rich purple highlights ... and it is AWESOME (I seriously get stopped on the street about 20 times a day by people who tell me how great it looks). Beyond Jillian's expertise, the shop is beautifully decorated and comfortable in hues of vibrant orange set against white. The rest of the staff is friendly and welcoming -- I just love it. I tried this salon because it was convenient. At first it was ok, nothing special. Then the owner, Jillian, who claimed she was the best at the salon colored, low lighted and cut my hair. What she failed to do is look at the previous formula for my hiar color. It was so dark i thought i looked like Morticia Adams. The cut was subpar and as my new/old hair cutter showed me, it was an inexperienced chop job in the back. She is in experienced and arrogant. The prices she charged for that salon were ridiculous and every item she sells in the store is marked up 4x what you can get on the internet. Stay away ladies!! You can do better. Went back to the Beaurty Parlor in Dobbs Ferry. Hair beautiful...will have to correct the color though does that look like she knows what she is doing? read more

When I asked friends and acquaintances for local recommendations, I heard a lot about another spot in Ossining but went for Zokkoz when I asked a client with an amazing head of hair where she got it done, and she said "zok zok in Briarcliff". Long story short, I went once in December and once last week and have been very happy with both cuts. It's a standard Aveda style and the price is incredibly reasonable. $75 for essentially the same cut I used to get for $125 to $q175 before tip in lower Manhattan, about 20 minutes from Peekskill. read more

PLEASE AVOID THIS SALON! I just did my hair Saturday, full head of highlights, and was left on the chair for 4 hours with bleach which caused massive hair damage and hair loss! But that is not the worse part! the treatment I received after that was horrible! they refused to remedy the situation! I asked them to cut the strand of my hair that were knotted because it was breaking every time I tried to comb it, and they refused. I'm in the process of contacting a lawyer to try and fix my hair so that they can refund me for the damages they caused. I visited the salon for the first time yesterday after purchasing the Groupon for a scalp facial with haircut and blow dry. I worked with Una and she was fantastic. I loved my whole experience. They had a parking lot. The place was super clean and comfortable. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with a smile and they made me a nice coffee. The scalp massage was great and they threw in a deep conditioning. Una was great at consulting with me and understanding my needs. She was quick and efficient and I was thrilled with the end results. Instead of a medium blonde I usually enjoy, last night I became an "I Love Lucy" redhead! Jillian took time out of her day to listen patiently to me about all my hair issues. First I'm writing this review not for negative outcomes but hopefully for the salon to improve on customer service and learn from mistakes. Unfortunately within the last week I had 2 hair dye negative experiences. One for the first hair color appointment and the second to correct the mistake of the first color. None were the color I wanted. Both times I inquired if the formula was being used I was told yes. It was a disappointing experience. I paid for the services and work . The second time I was only charged for the blow drying. I expressed I shouldn't have had to pay for anything since again my hair was not the color I wanted. I was respectful and professional but felt the demeanor of the workers were indifferent because I expressed as a customer I didn't get what I paid for. One hairstylist who was not the one that did my hair stated if I showed the picture and I stated yes every time as I didn't want to end up with a different color in my hair. I explained I hoped they understood . It was surprising as the hairstylist did a good job the first time I went. I was a new customer (due to the salon I went to for years was sold and I was on a journey to find a good hairstylist and salon ) and I was very satisfied with her work. The hair color matched the picture I presented to her. I inquired if she would save the formula she stated she would . Everyone makes mistakes but to make the customer feel as it's their fault and then expect them to pay for messing up your hair is just unacceptable customer service. I'm a firm believer in integrity , learning from mistakes to be and do better and great customer service. read more

I see my bad color experience at Zokkoz was similar to other reviewers. After months of satisfying visits, my color came out much to dark the last and final time I went. Several staff members including the owner and the receptionist (really?) came down on me insisting it was the same color I always had. Someone obviously made a mistake, but rather than apologize they went on the offensive. It's reassuring to read another review where the customer had the exact same experience. Please note I do not typically post negative reviews. However, similar to at least 2 other reviewers' experiences, I too had an issue where the direction I provided on my color was not followed and after 3 hours, got poor results for the 2nd time in a 4 week span. I was kind enough to give the stylist another shot to fix it before I went elsewhere. Once I saw the results after the assistant finished the blowout, I immediately got upset and expressed it wasn't right again. The stylist (to her credit) did acknowledge it was not what I had asked for and called the owner, Jillian over. Let's just say all she did was make matters WAY worse. I was already upset having both given the stylist and the salon another try as well as having wasted 3 hours of my time and still not being happy with the outcome. Again, similar to not one but TWO other reviewers, instead of expressing understanding and any type of customer service, she placed the blame on me of somehow getting what I asked for (which even the stylist knew was incorrect). I told her, admittedly quite angrily, that I was not going to pay and she told me I needed to pay for the services provided. I walked out at that point but then felt guilty as I realized I got a decent blow dry from the assistant and it wasn't at all her fault. So I swallowed my pride, went back in saying I wanted to pay for the blowdry portion and again the owner without skipping a beat said I needed to pay for everything which I wound up doing. Jillian is clearly non-customer service oriented and money-hungry. Needless to say, I will not be returning. And for the record, I was going to submit this review about 3 weeks ago when the event occurred. My thought was to wait a bit, calm down, and see how it looked/how I felt before doing so. After coming home yesterday from a new/wonderful salon experience where the colorist told me I actually needed color correction and the terrible reddish base color is going to take a while to go away entirely, I felt compelled to report my experience. I asked for a long bob but not too short in the back and provided multiple pictures of the style. I explained to Ana that I have a busy schedule and can't blow it out everyday. Not only was this the WORST cut of my life but at the end Ana said well now you have a cut that you have to blow out everyday. For the last few years, Jillian has been my go-to hair stylist whether it's for just a trim, a blow out for an event or a hair relaxing treatment. When I got engaged and knew I had to pick a hair stylist for my wedding, I didn't think twice about hiring Jillian. For about 8 months, Jillian worked with me to come up with the best hair styles for my big day. To say I was indecisive is an understatement. She's not only incredibly talented with everything hair, but she's also creative, easy to work with, and now someone I consider a friend. We settled on not one hair style but three! Jillian could've told me I was crazy for wanting my hair down, then up, then up again in a different way, but she handled it with such grace.
