For years we've been stressing over a large (~70 foot) Sweet Gum tree in our backyard. We were fairly sure it was diseased and feared that a good storm would bring its limbs down onto our roof. After deciding to do some work in our yard that would benefit from having the tree removed ahead of time, I reached out to a few tree removal services for estimates on taking down the tree. Spaulding beat the lowest estimate I had received by $200 and thus we booked them to come out and do the work. Even though their larger dump truck was in service, they booked an appointment just a few days later to come and complete the service, using alternatives for hauling everything away. Brock and his team were great to work with. They arrived as scheduled and immediately got to work. After watching our neighbor's have a tree removed a few years ago, and having damage to their shed as a result of a fallen branch, I watched every minute of the ~3-hour process to make sure everything was safe. It was frankly fascinating to watch this team work. They did an amazing job of making sure every branch, limb and log that fell, fell safely away from our fence (our biggest concern). They did have quite a few land on some very old railroad ties we were using as a sort of retaining wall but, they weren't of concern and frankly there would've been no way to avoid them. Once the tree was down, it became very apparent that our concerns regarding disease were correct as every log showed signs of it from top to bottom. After the tree was down and all the wood removed from the yard, they took the time to blow everything out so our lawn wasn't littered with branches and leaves etc. They even scooped up the remaining piles of smaller items, and saw dust, and hauled it away as well. While the overall cost to have this tree removed was way more than I expected, I feel the amount I paid to have this company complete the work was more than fair given the time and attention they gave to making sure it was done safely. Should we ever have need of a tree removal in the future, I will not hesitate to call on Spaulding once again. read more

My husband and I were very impressed with the work done by Spaulding Tree Service. The price was very reasonable, they were able to give me a quote promptly and once the work was approved, they were here within a few days to complete the job. They even managed to complete some unplanned work the same day-- removal of a large dead tree branch hanging far above our house-- that we hadn't noticed when getting the original quote. I promised I would write a truly honest review about my day waiting for Brock's team to get to my house for a 30-40 min job. According to him, there is NO way they could have ever give me a window of when they were going to arrive. Keep in mind this is AFTER he said he would be here in the afternoon when i told him my wife will have to make sure to be home. Well, the afternoon came and went and I had to text him again at 3:52 pm (hardly the early afternoon) and he just told me his guys will still be there (see text). At 5:44 pm he told me they'd be there in 45 min. I made it VERY clear we had to leave by 7:00 pm. They finally arrived at 7:10 pm and said Brock never told them anything about me having to leave by 7:00. Really? When I finally spoke to Brock, he reminded me my job was ONLY a $200 job and that his last job was $5k. Ok...and I care why? Should I feel honored he made time for me with my worthless $200 job? He offered me $175 instead and said it's not his fault (huh???) but then AGAIN had to remind me he has other jobs that were $5K and mine was ONLY $200.00 I said I don't care about the money and that it should have just been communicated better. Wow, was he defensive about that? He said "how could I ever provide an estimated window? It's impossible!" I reminded him he told me early afternoon and he said he was just saying that and that he actually meant "at some point today". Umm....never again. And I won't even go into the 100 for 150 "deal". I didn't bother with it after how badly he was arguing and how defensive and belittling he was. I was much happier to just pay and hang up on him. Never ever again.... Update from 9/10/18 - now apparently I'm a racist via the phone? Hey Brock, did you know I'm not a white guy? that BS doesn't work here so stop making excuses and harassing me for your pitiful work ethic and business practices. I asked if I could use YOUR $100 for $150 and pay you $25 on top of that for your late service. Last time I checked, that was $175. You complained SO much that I just wrote you a $175 check because I couldn't take your excuse making and got sick of being compared to your $5k jobs. read more

All I can say is WOW!!! Brock and his team provided excellent service. Even with the amount of emergency tree service going on right now because of the storms Spaulding was able to squeeze in my non-emergency work and take down two 60ft+ trees from my property. It took them only about 2 hours and they did a great job cutting up the wood and stacking in the back of my property so I could use it later for firewood. I was very happy with the Spaulding team. They were recommended by my contractor, and did not disappoint. I had an 85 foot maple tree with large roots growing under my house in the backyard that had to come down. It was tricky because it was between the house and the deck. Had tree waste in the road that needed to be cleaned up. We agreed on a day for the job to be complete. Each day something else happened (another job ran long, truck in the shop, no reply) and I was pushed to the next day. I finally had to hire another company to take care of the job as I was pushed back 6 different times. Unfortunately, they were unreliable. I can't say enough great things about Spaulding! Brock and his crews are extremely professional, organized, and efficient. Two weeks ago, they came out to remove a ~90 foot oak tree, remove 3 overgrown river birch, and do other trimming around the house. Last week, before Hurricane Florence hit, they came back out as the storm was approaching to take out the last of my 'sick' oaks. The guys did a fantastic job and were very cautious as they were working in 20mph winds with some gusts. They made sure every bit of loose brush was cleared before the stronger winds arrived. After all that proactive maintenance in my yard, during the storm, my neighbor's ~80 foot oak tree fell on my house and backyard. That happened on Sunday. Today is Wednesday and they made sure to get out to the house today to clear everything and fix the fence so the insurance and restoration companies can get started fixing the house. After I gave the work to them it appeared that there was more work and the quote was underbid. But Brock and his team still worked with the original price.
