I drive a JDM imported Toyota turbo diesel van. Not common and can be difficult to source parts. It was father's day Sunday and I was a couple hours from home when my fan belt broke. I was stuck on the side of the road with few options. I called Mavis tire and they told me it would be Monday before they could deal with my van, and weren't sure if they would be able to work on it, at all. I started calling all the local mobile mechanics. I bet I tried 9 or 10 before I got Johnny. Only 1 of those first 10 answered the phone and he only worked on big rig diesels. Not one of those other folks answered the phone or returned my calls and messages. Johnny answered first couple of rings. I told him my vehicle and what my problem was. He said he had not worked on a van like mine, but was sure he could figure it out. He ran by the parts store and was to me in less than an hour. He had to run back to the parts store to get an additional part. Once he set to work, he got me back on the road in less than an hour. He charged me $150 for parts and labor. That is for over 2 hours of his time. That breaks down to probably $65 an hour, which is less than most mechanic's shop rate. If I had towed it home, it would have been 2 or 3 times that. Considering it takes 15-20 minutes to drive from the Waffle House in Oxford to the location on 202 where the tire needed to be changed, his response was prompt. Near Anniston, car died alongside I-20 on friday afternoon. I notified USAA roadside assistance. They dispatched help. Mr. Spears called me a few minutes later to let me know he was on his way and made sure I was in a safe place. He arrived and looked over the engine. The battery terminal was loose, and couldn't be tightened anymore. Wedged in place, started the car, I was on my way. Unfortunately, It died again. I called Mr Spears directly. I was traveling from Powder Springs Ga to lake Wedowee when I lost all electrical power and eventually my truck shut down. I call Spears Roadside Service and woke Johnny up. He said he would be there in 20 minutes. He was more like 40 minutes but he stopped by the auto parts store and picked up what he thought he might need. He was exactly right. It needed a new battery and alternator. He repaired right on the spot. We had a great conversation while he was working. We laughed and it was great! What a great experience at a fair price. tire blew out on our trip to Georgia called my insurance company and they dispatched spears company with a 45-75 min eta Jonny called me 2 mins later and said he would be there in 10 mins he pulls up and gets the tire changed in just a few mins and was very nice throughout the entire encounter especially for somebody who got called out at 5am he then proceded to lead me all the way back to Walmart tire center 10/10 would highly reccomend his service !!! read more
