We love all of our doctors here and appreciate their care of my sweet baby. I particularly appreciate GI as they really helped us in early days and their doctor is a real gem. We didn't "see" immunologist Dr. Rosenblatt here; we had two "telemedicine" appointments with him that were basically phone calls, because he doesn't have the technology to have a camera on his end, so I can't tell you what he looks like. Both appointments, morning and afternoon, were over an hour late, at the height of COVID, which meant separating the well child from us with the sick child, since they are pretty clear about the experience mimicking a real office visit. Keeping a three year old sitting still for an hour, not knowing when the doctor will show up, is a special kind of hell. They could have just told us he was late, and to carry on with our lives and tune in again in 30 minutes. Our second appointment was a rerun of the first. We spent a lot of time listening to the doctor repeat everything again. He was dismissive of most of my concerns. Since we're dealing with an autoimmune disorder, there's a lot of don't know going on, but there is concern about whether or not parents and siblings also have this disorder. There was talk that we'd all be tested at the next appointment. And please get this bloodwork done. And then he ghosted. It's been two months. I had to advocate for the bloodwork order at our next hematology appointment, since the doctor never put it in. Blood was taken, and we have yet to receive the results or the phone call he'd mentioned to get us all in there to get tested. So instead of continuing with this doctor who is located ONE MILE from our home, we will be going to the next closest pediatric immunologist we could find: at Texas Children's in Houston, a three hour drive away. read more

Before I post this review, I'd like to say that my daughter has gone to Dr. Diaz for the past several years and has received excellent care. The medical staff is very good, but not good enough to excuse my experience this morning. My daughter and I were running more than five, but less than 15 minutes late for her appointment this morning and were turned away. I was told that there is a strict five minute only grace period and frankly, i was stunned. For a practice that specializes in children in a city that's traffic is as unpredictable as Austin's, this seems like a far too rigid policy. I, too, am a medical professional and i work in a clinic that faces a daily battle with long wait times and patient tardiness, so i understand the struggle. It is a rare occurrence that we would ever turn a patient away and only if we couldn't safely and appropriately deliver care. There were two other families in the wait room, so I asked if they truly could not make any time to see my daughter, especially since it takes months of advance notice to get in. It was a definitive "no" and we were rescheduled for after the New Year. I found this unfortunate because in years past, we've encountered longer than typical wait times at this clinic, but I let it go because that's the name of the game in the medical field: hurry up and wait. But I got the message today: we can make you wait as long as we want, but we will only wait up to five minutes for you. Yes, I was late. It is on me. And next time I will do everything in my power to be very prompt to my daughter's appointment. But next time, it will be at a different practice. read more

The negative reviews absolutely match my experience. We saw Dr Zweiner, a pediatric GI. He was personable and took his time with us. Unfortunately, he spent that time telling us we were overly anxious about our child who was under 3% on the weight chart and vomiting many times a week. He often vomited many times a day! And yet, Dr Zweiner would say, " he's fine, you're a nervous preemie mom." Try to lower the medicine. We would try to lower the meds with disastrous results every time. This went on for three years. My only regret is not leaving the practice sooner. His nurse Phobe, was a nightmare. She was rude and routinely didn't return calls. Ultimately, my son had an endoscopy and Dr Zweiner walked in after the scope and said, "he has angry and severe reflux and will be on meds for life." Further, Dr Zweiner didn't seem to understand oral aversions, which are quite common for children with reflux. It's dangerous -at a minimum-for Pedi GI's to have a lack of understanding of oral aversions. When our child was eating only 3-5 items, he sent in a nutritionist who recommended we encourage our child to eat more broccoli. I only wish this my experience alone, however, I have since talked to many other parents and found they echo these concerns. read more

I just want to call the attention of the office at 5339 North Interstate 35. This doesn't have to do with the quality of the care for patients. My huge concern is the location and parking facilities available. I was there today at the parking lot after an appointment and I witnessed a near miss involving a 2 year old who slipped away from his mom and in seconds he was at the edge of the curve for the I-35 off ramp. Thankfully the mom screamed at the boy and she caught him right before he jump into the road. I was in my car also screaming but not much I could have done as this was a split second near miss accident. This Seton location handles children who have developmental delays like Autism who are known to wonder around and take off running, and it is only a matter of time for an accident to occur with the current setup. These offices and doctors weren't always at this location, I am not sure why this was chosen but it is definitely not a safe parking area. The first time I was there months ago I thought it was a dangerous location. I witnessed it first hand today. I hope the administration for this office evaluates the parking area and if possible arrange with the leasing office to put a barrier and signs which could prevent a terrible accident. Please don't wait until an accident occurs. It almost happened today. Thank you!! read more

I can't even begin how horrible this place is. Dr Diaz diagnosis everything so quickly with barely a glance, you'll think my gosh is she really good or really rushed/arrogant? She misdiagnosed my daughter and now we can't undo what she did. Her staff is rude and will be condescending to you. They'll copy and paste standard info and treat every one the same. It takes months to get an appointment. They're just selling you on the "Specially for Children" part. Plenty of pediatric options elsewhere. It's like labeling milk as "specially for children" and it being the same thing as regular milk. Go somewhere else. read more

Reading through these reviews have me shook... I must of gotten lucky & got the best doctor & nutritionists in the whole building. I See Dr. Gybson ( Genetics ) once a month and he is very friendly with me and my son, always seems concerned for his health & life , new milestones , its as if he holds my hand every step of the way, i am a first type mom... you know how that is, overly worried for smallest thing, but whatever it is and whatever time I've called either during official hours or late night to whoever is on call, has always heard me and advice me on what to do best, my nutritionists (2) are super nice & always advice me on what is best for him to eat, never goes against how i feed him , they always make me feel as i am the best mom in the world. This review is for Dr. Fasci's office on IH-35. We like Dr. Fasci, appreciate what she does for us, think she's smart, and have positive interactions with the staff at her office. Every single time we're there, an office worker forgets to return/make a call, makes a mistake with a referral or piece of paperwork, or simply forgets it altogether. I'm not exaggerating. They make navigating multiple doctors and specialists SO MUCH more difficult than it has to be because their paperwork skills are laughably incompetent. My wife were even talking about how crazy it is the other day, when today they struck again. I'm actually sitting in the parking lot of the office now because they left us a message that a form I faxed them has been filled out and I could pick it up. Now I wrote a one page cover letter describing exactly what they needed to do for this form, and instructions even on what to do if two certain questions came up (which they both did, and would have been solved if they'd read the letter). This was in addition to actual instructions on the form itself. When she passed me the form, I showed her how it was incomplete and the two places where instructions were that would have solved that issue. I also showed her how my address (which she asked for in person and in the earlier phone message as an alternative to me coming in person) was in my letter, in bold, in its own paragraph. The lady assured me that if she was the one who received the fax that she would have read the letter. Somebody up high at Seton or Specially for Children needs to fix this pattern. It's ridiculous. It is RIDICULOUS. So, 5 star doctor averaged with 1 star organization = 3 stars. read more

We saw Dr.Siv Fasci for an autism evaulation here. We were extremely impressed!! The staff is all very kind and they made us feel very comfortable. Dr. Fasci took us seriously and listened to everything we had to say and didn't make us feel like we were wasting her time. The wait time wasn't too bad. My only compliant is that the wait time on the phone can be pretty long, anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. read more

Dr. Siv Fasci is my hero. She's attentive, direct, with a great personality and shows genuine care and compassion. We feel lucky and fortunate that we are able to see and her and we'll just follow her wherever she wants to do clinic. She comes up with new ways to try and address things and always talks me through whatever it is. She makes great referrals too! She referred us to One World Karate with Dan Carroll (for PT) and a specific speech therapist at Capital Therapy Group (it's secret!). The newer office off of I-35 is big, clean and bright. I'm always seen on time and the nurses and staff in her clinic have been gracious and kind. It's like a unicorn, I know. Dr. Fasci is our favorite but my son sees several Specially for Children doctors and there isn't one that I couldn't say the same thing about. you know, for being a lab in the only children's hospital in a huge city & backed by Dell, this lab is garbage. the waiting room is unsafe for kids - window blinds strings hanging down is just asking for a kid to be strangled. every outlet plug is uncovered. excuse me while I give your curious baby a bobby pin from my hair, so he can learn real life lessons. the window sill is just chipped paint - oh your kid is hungry? just give him paint chips. the people at the receptionist window clearly hate their job, as they bark out names and orders. you're dealing with scared children, not prisoners at Del Valle correctional facility. and after three blown veins, you might want to look at hiring some professional phlebotomists, instead of picking up guys outside of Home Depot. read more

Typically exceptional doctors. With the exception of Neurology, our experience with the doctors and related medical support staff has been outstanding. We recently saw Joshua Smith (endocrinology) and he is extraordinary. Office staff is horrible. Dante forgot the 10th level of Hell, which is dealing with Specialty for Children office staff. Getting an appointment is a nightmare - lose referral paperwork, mis-key insurance information, ARGUE with BCBS rep on the phone regarding the insurance information. Nearly 2 hours of hold times and recalls to get 1 appointment. Left complaint for office manager to call me back. After nearly a month, I think that ain't gonna happen. They haven't always been the best to deal with, but over the 16 years I've had to take my kiddos there, the office staff has gone from mediocre to horrific over the last couple of years. They' d better get it together because Scott and White has been expanding their pediatric services and S4C will get their lunch eaten. read more

UPDATE: Today I received a call from the Senior Vice President of Sharecare who sincerely apologized for what we've been through and listened openly to my feedback. Very impressed. He assured me that their call volume has increased overnight and they are working hard to hire more staff. The Senior Ops Manager called me yesterday and apologized. She also sent me ALL the documents I needed in record time. Cheryl couldn't have been more nice or professional. I feel hopeful that this company will fix their issues and come out on top. Dr Heintz, a Pediatric Gastroenterologist, is the best doctor we have ever met. He is exceptional at interacting with and engaging children. He was so thorough at explaining everything to me and answering all my questions. He did not make me feel rushed and everything ran on time. He even made my daughter a balloon animal! Our last hospital for the kids was the Mayo Clinic. That's a full 5 stars, this is more like "As good as it gets HERE." Have to say the healthcare in Austin isn't quite what we're used to, and still looking for a great primary doc, but we needed a pediatric cardiologist, and this is where the pediatrician sent us. The doctor had a good manner, and he was very thorough, both in testing and explaining what he found. I couldn't have asked for anything more (though the Mayo Clinic pediatric cardiologist had a man playing a grand piano in the lobby... just saying...). read more

A pediatric doctor should have compassion, sensitivity, and above all, actually like children. Dr. Zweiner discussed my child's case in front of him in a very demeaning manner until I told him to stop and I put headphones on my child so he did not have to hear it. He then went on to say that, "A lot of THESE kinds of kids go on to develop ..." and listed a bunch of unrelated behavioural issues. Deeply insulting at best. Second, the lab did not have simple numbing cream. It required 3 people to hold my child down, and they were very annoyed about it. Pediatrics folks. Pediatrics. Go elsewhere. My child sees several doctors here---Dr Perkins with Neurology is excellent--5 stars and is incredibly thorough. The office staff though....good luck getting anyone to return a phone call and the wait to speak with someone for appointments can be 30+ minutes. Super frustrating!!! Dr Zweiner with gastro is excellent and thorough as well. gastro's office staff is easier to get along with and they seem to return calls faster Dr Mignacca with blood and cancer is also excellent and his nurse and nurse practitioner are a moms dream!!!! They are so responsive to special needs and return calls usually within same day. That's unheard of with other departments!!!! read more

Dr. Nunez was an extremely rude doctor. She scolded me because of my daughter's weight and even looked at me for a solid minute like you are in trouble...I cannot find the words to describe what happened, but after she did about 4 times, I finally put her in her place. It was then, that her face turned red, she had a huge grin and apologized. I will not be going back to this doctor. read more

I had the misfortune of having my daughter come down with a condition called ITP earlier this year. Dr. Shaffer and the rest of the staff here are very kind and they treated my daughter very well. I like that they have people there who specialize in distracting your children with toys and activities while they are getting poked with needles. No child should have to experience this @#$@. I am grateful that my baby was released and I'm grateful for the kind of attention she was given. My only complaint is that we always had to wait for such a long time to be seen. Other than that, I'd refer anyone to this place. It's a child oncology and hematology center. read more

My daughter has a rare genetic disease. Since it is 4th generation we knew it was possible and are very familiar with all the intricacies and hoops needed to jump through to get knowledgeable treatment. I was SO pleased with the Endocrinology department at Specially for Children because even with the shortage of endocrinologists in Austin, they were able to fit us in at the needed intervals for monitoring without adding in unneeded extras, stayed on top of the most recent research studies in the field, and genuinely cared and connected with my usually shy girl. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the entire staff, follow-ups, knowledge base, attitudes, I'm glad they have it together. read more

My husband and I had taken my 29 month old son to Strictly Pediatric orthopedic as he was complaining about a pain on his right foot and was limping. Dr. Sargent was very nice and even the nurse who took his x-ray was patient. The doctor recommended that my son be placed in a wee walker for a week and that she needs 3 blood work done just to rule out any other reasons for the inflammation. She asked to do CBC, CRP and SED Rate blood tests for my son. We took him to the laboratory in the same building. And, this is the reason for this poor rating. There were two nurses there. At first they told me to hold him on my lap while she draws the blood from my son's right arm. She used a butterfly needle, and used his right arm, after wiggling the needle inside him for a couple minutes, she couldn't get blood, and then she tried on his left arm. By this time, my son was screaming and crying. She drew some blood from his left arm and told us it was not enough to do all tests. Then she asked us to lay him down on the bed and hold him. We did that, and she tried again on his right arm. At the end of this ordeal she told us, she doesn't have enough blood to do all 3 tests but can do only 2. The next day when I called Dr. Sargent's nurse to know the blood work result, she told me that the laboratory was able to do only one test, and that there was some clotting issues so the laboratory was not able to do the other test. I am very disappointed with the unprofessional behavior of the nurses at the laboratory. When you visit a pediatric facility with your toddler, you expect that the service will be better and that the people working there will be more versed in how to deal with kids. They caused my son a lot of pain, and the worst part is they were not even able to do the tests. I for one will never be visiting this facility again. And, will also ask my friends never to visit there at least not to do any blood work done for their kids. read more

WORST PEDIATRIC GI'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My daughter was in and out of Dell for throwing up and failure to thrive. They kept pushing medicine on her and just saying that she has GERD. They refused to listen to me, and I am the one person who knows her best. Unfortunately, the closest place for a good GI for your child is Houston. I drove my daughter to Texas Children's in Houston, and they quickly figured out the issue. They also said that she didn't need medication. She was all better and doing great within just a couple of days at TX Children's. I cannot wait for TX Children's to get to Austin in October. read more

This review is for the endocrinology department. We've been seeing several of the other specialities without issue but ever since the lost dr. Smith the endochronology department has really gone down hill. We were shuffled to new locations without being asked, assigned to pa's instead of md's, then assigned to the new doc who says one thing and does another. On March 16, My son's doctor referred this place and two other provider for an allergy test. I called to this place but they didn't answer, asked to leave the message. The next morning they called me and told me they would make an appointment for my son on 11am, May 17 - a really long wait - but just for a "pre-test" to see if he is qualified for the test. Weeks later, someone called me, said the doctor would not be there at that time so they rescheduled one week earlier at 2:40pm, May 10. I said I am ok with that and marked it down. When I came, they looked at the computer, asked my son's last name and said they have my son's name on their system but didn't have any appointment with us??? If I wanted they would make an appointment but on June xx. When I showed them the paper that the family doctor gave me, I circled their name, address, and wrote down the date and time. They said they never call to the patient, maybe I had appointment with other places. They said they have my son's name on their system because my son doctor sent his form to all that places. I called other places on the paper and they confirmed they do not have my son's name on their system. Well, if they did not talk to me before, how could my son's name in their system - not other places? How could I know about the "pre-test" as their requirement while the family doctor only talked about allergy test? How could people have appointment with them when only can leave a message to them? They did not answered that but asked me who called me. Does anyone of us really ask the name of the one schedule your appointment with your doctor/ clinic. provider/ lab? Maybe they feel "poor" for me, so they offered an appointment next week on May 18 instead on middle of June. It doesn't make any sense and such a bad liar for they lack responsibility. I feel I was insulted by them as I am a dumb. Does a place like that seriously still work? * After I wrote this review, they called me and said they did not contact me before May 10. They didn't make the appointment with me on May 10, but they checked and saw on May 10, I had a RESCHEDULE appointment with another provider: Children's Urology, which has the same address but different floor, that I was wrong those providers. No, I had appointment with Children's Urology already on May 3rd as it was scheduled when I called them on April 24, after my son visit his family doctor again. Write those days down and you can see that's nothing to mess two providers up. ---- Wait, something is really wrong here. How could they know my son is Children's Urology's patient? I really concern about our right's private and will talk to Children's Urology soon. It's hard to find a provider now a day where they do their business with their pride, even within laws. Now I strongly believe I am really dumb if I continue with that provider. We lost 2 months for waiting and will nothing more! read more

My review is that of the appointment process and the office staff in the neurology department. Not of the doctors or nurses.In my opinion, I think that anytime you deal with a family that has so much to deal with because they have a child that has extra needs, whatever level that may be, you would think that a doctors office would be more open, accepting and thoughtful to these families. In this case, this office has some staff members that are clearly not. To get into Specially For Children you need a referral, in most cases at least. If the office doesn't have it in their file, then you don't get to make an appointment. Even if you have the referral number and all the information that they could possibly want, it wouldn't matter. If you want to call for any reason, you have to go through a "wait in line" process over the phone, where you will hear an automated voice tell you where you fall on that list, even if you are #2 in line, it could be another 20 minutes. If you have to call them back, you get back in line. If you are in need of immediate help, get in line. If you have to go to work, have a child that needs your attention, just prepare to wait in line. Once you get a human, be ready to give them exactly what they need or you will feel the pressure on their end. If they call you and say they have a sooner appointment and you frantically call them back and leave messages, say for 3 days straight, just accept that since you missed your one phone call, you lost your chance, get back in the appointment line. If you call back and forget the name of the person you are trying to reach and only have their department and position, be prepared to call them back and wait in line, they will not be happy or try to assist you in finding who called you. Then the best part: No matter how bad your special needs child needs help, you WILL WAIT MONTHS TO BE SEEN. THEY DON'T CARE. Now on to our much anticipated appointment that we waited over 2+ months for to be seen by a nurse practitioner, not Dr.K. If you think you are special because your child is special, you're not, if you want to see Dr.K, you'll wait 6+ months at a minimum. Now I was told that they send him the notes from the appointment but only they truly know that, I have no clue but to hope that my son gets help. This appointment was important for us because he had no doctor to refill or change his medication. We were less than 10 minutes late but no more. Again, this is when you would think an office would have a more compassionate side and understand that it isn't easy. When we arrived I was told that my referral that was supposed to have a name change to a different provider not Dr.K was not received and they would not see me. Oh and I had a $45 co-pay which was not true and they insisted it was. Listen, we are active duty military, I have had 2 kids and an emergency surgery in a civilian hospital, never did I pay a dime and I wasn't going to start today. Thats the price I pay when my husband sat in Iraq for 2 years and continues to serve. My point, why do they not know what to charge people? Active duty Tricare Prime/Value Options don't have a co-pay. I had to beg to be seen, in front of the entire office, explain that my son is running out of his meds, something he can't go without, that his pediatrician has reluctantly been refilling them just to get to this appointment. I was telling them all our private info in front of everyone, talk about HIPAA violation, you think they would have tried to respect our rights and clearly see I was becoming more upset. The receptionists didn't want to deal with my complicated insurance and so rescheduling was the easier path they wanted. All while feeling totally unwelcome, I had my pediatrician on the phone who I know sent in the revised referral. After I had been waiting for them to get the office manager while keeping my busy pediatrician on the phone, they took me back to a room and said they did not want to see us that day and would reschedule. The manager called me out and said I was over 20 minutes late, a total lie and unprofessional accusation by the receptionists. By then, I was already on the phone with the pediatrician and I had the phone time stamp to prove it. SFC has an automated fax system, if they don't receive it, its automatically your fault, not theirs. After begging, pleading and even crying after they threatened to reschedule us, they finally got us in as if it were a favor on their part and a mistake on our end. Never mind the incompetence of SFC's office staff and the lying. After 3 hours of waiting, we finally got in and left after 4 hours. My son was so worn out and now has more anxiety and hatred for going to appointments. What a terrible way to treat people, especially make a child suffer and his baby sister too. If this is the best that Austin has to offer, I cringe, there has to be a better way. If anyone there reads this, can they understand that this is unethical? read more

Because my husband's ex wife was irresponsible and couldn't keep a couple of appointments for my stepchild a couple years ago, they have refused to ever see him again, no matter the circumstance. This is unacceptable. You don't punish the child for the sins of the parents, especially in this medical instance and when you're the only place in Austin for pediatric neurology. They ought to be ashamed of themselves. We will never, ever recommend this facility or its doctors to anyone. read more

Does Specially for Children have a monopoly on children's specialists that they can afford to screw kids and their parents over without consequence??? And can Specially for Children not expand to provide additional doctors? While we were waiting to see the appropriate specialists, my daughter's conditioned worstened to the point that it became critical. I should have just taken her to the ER in the first place. Unfortunately, I'm not a f*%$ing doctor. I'm just a parent, who stupidly waited patiently for one. I learned my lesson. I will drive to Houston to find medical care next time, rather than wait weeks to months for a doctor here. This is ridiculous. read more

Hope to never need to come back to this office! Dr is nice but her nurse Alicia doesn't send lab orders my child needs... I wait 2 weeks just for Pre authorization that she never did so I have to call the insurance myself to push things through and then call the nurse and when we show up to the lab place the orders aren't even there so that's another wait. I was told that the testing would take two weeks for results it's been a month I can't even get a callback from the nurse or the doctor when it comes to my child's health I just want know what's going on! If you can't keep up with patients needs maybe you're in the wrong field... read more

I took my son for the first time for a follow-up on some fluctuating tests my son had at his primary doctor's office. We were told it would be six months, but our primary doctor spoke personally to the office to get my son in about three months time. We saw Dr. N in Endocrinology and had a very unpleasant experience. It had to have been the strangest patient interaction I have ever seen. The front office did not look up to help us (no smiles in a pediatric facility), and we had to ask a second window where to go in the hallway maze. All Dr. N did was to tell me to have my son watch his weight and eat better. We were told she would provide more advice, but I could have received this info from the internet or used common sense. She then added something to the effect of hoping my son can do this signaling the end of the visit. It was as if she doubted he could. I replied that I could not believe a doctor just said that to us. She has no idea what we have been through. It was so robotic and cold. I explained my son has sensory issues with food all his life due to Asperger Syndrome. Because she could see I was dismayed at her lack of care, Dr. N then all of a sudden offered to do some tests and help with feeding specialist referrals. What followed after was even more bizarre. She started speaking to my pre-teen son in a loud voice like he was hard of hearing asking him if he would eat carrots if I would give them to him. She repeated her various questions three times. Then, she would look at me and talk in a normal voice. My son and I looked at each other like we were in the Twilight Zone. When we checked out, I was told my Health Saving Account amount for the visit was around $380 or so. I asked if this was for everything, and the receptionist said yes it was. In a few weeks, I received a bill for $107 more, and billing could not provide a reason why when I called. When calling a second time, a second billing associate was very helpful and offered to mail me the codes for the visit for my insurance. I assure you this was not a $500 visit! I called to find out who I can tell of our experience and was given the Practice Administrator's name, but the call to him went to the Clinical Nurse Manager. I had to leave a message and had a return call saying there was a delay because she was out for a while. We played phone tag, but my last call asked for a mailing address or email address where I can write my experience down since we could not connect. I never heard from her again for over two weeks as I write. I do see there is a Patient's Representative/Complaint line, so I will use this. This may have been an unusual instance but one that is worthy of sharing. Please be your child's advocate and receive the service you pay for dearly. Children should be treated with hope and respect in a children's facility. read more

Truly horrible transition in closing Specially For Children Neurology. ZERO communication with parents/patients about it. All the doctors left for a new clinic with NO patient records. Wow. Found out about this while trying to get a routine prescription refill. Now going through the new clinic where all the doctors moved to & it's taken me 1 1/2 hours of phone calls between Specially for Children, medical records, and the new clinic. Really terrible customer service after going there for 9 1/2 years. Wow. I guess we won't be back since neurology closed...... I would like to add that after I posted the above, (3 phone calls later), I finally figured out how to get my child's neurology records and discovered I have to PAY Specially for Children for them. Seton- you should be ashamed of yourselves for treating special needs kids & their families this way. read more

I loathe the Endocrine clinic at this hospital. You call, leave messages,nobody calls you back. You try to make follow up appointments, nobody calls you back. Once you do get an appointment after 6 months of trying and expect to see an actual DR. they send you to a nurse practitioner who has no clue about your kids illness. You FIRE THEM for unethical behavior and a year later they call CPS on you saying you are neglecting your child for not bringing her in for that year because THEY failed to update her patient information. Their excuse for their own medical neglect, failure to update records, failure to communicate with parents and for ripping a family apart based on false information "OOPS, our bad!". Stay away from SFC's endocrine unit at ll costs, it will cost you your sanity and possibly your family. read more

Didn't realize till just now that I'm not alone after looking at all the Yelp reviews. As much as I like Dr. Kayser (she's very personable) as a pediatric allergist for my son, it is IMPOSSIBLE to get an appt and get seen her in a timely manner. We have had 3 appointments with Dr. Kayser. The first appointment we had to wait 1 hour and 35 minutes just to see her. Second appointment was 1 hour and 30 minutes. Just so you know, this is not an easy task when you have a 5 year old waiting with you. Not only that, but they are missing school and I am missing work time. When I said something, she suggested I get on her schedule as her first appointment of the day...I guess she gets backed up easily!? So, that is what we did. Our third appointment which we had to schedule like 2 months out, we found ourselves waiting again. After an hour of waiting, I had enough. We were FIRST on her roster, yet, still waited an hour. SORRY, no good. After speaking to the office manager, apparently they get emergency appointments in as early as they can. So, after making an appointment 2 months out and waiting for 1 hour, we still get pushed back? Shouldn't emergencies go to the emergency room? We left and hopefully she was able to "catch-up" after doing so. I think they need to come to grips with not seeing anymore patients or new patients. Best solution for us was to find another good doctor in town that also had the respect to see her patients on time. Good luck Specially for Children--Dr. Kayser. read more

We use the Endocrine, Neurology AND Allergy/Asthma doctors of this group. My biggest complaint is making an appointment. I've never had such bad service/extreme hold times. I am finally getting around to writing a review about this for the first time. Every single time I call, I get so mad that I mean to write a review. I'm finally doing it. When you call into any of the Specially For Children doctor's offices, I'm pretty certain you are calling the same group of ladies who make appointments, no matter which specialty group you need to make an appointment with. I have been on hold now for 35 minutes. When I called in (35 minutes ago) I was only caller #2! I've called before and been caller #9 (I just give up when it's that bad). After 19 minutes, I was caller #1. Still waiting! This is insane. Last time I was at the endocrinologist (and went to pay) I was asked to call in to make a follow-up appointment. WHAT?!! I don't know why I couldn't make it right then and there with the girls behind the desk. Well, I did just that and only had to hold for 10 minutes. That's a good day on hold with this group!! On a positive note, if you are calling in to speak with a nurse (and not make an appointment) the nurses are very responsive! I give them 5 stars. They have been fabulous! Special shout out to Kris with Endocrine. She is fantastic and extremely responsive and on top of things! I have a lot of experience with the Neurology and Endocrinology nurses. They are both great. Can't speak to Allergy since we don't call in for nurse questions. Lastly, I see a lot of bad reviews for Endocrinology. In their defense, I learned that this is a very difficult field of medicine and there just aren't a lot of pediatric Endocrinologists out there. We need more in Austin, TX!! We are a growing city. And some older/more experienced ones at that. My experience with one, when my son was diagnosed with Growth Hormone Deficiency, really couldn't give me a lot of detail. She said it was only about growth (cosmetic). SOOOOO not true. I have learned SO much on my own. I almost didn't treat him because she led me to believe GH treatment will likely only help him get an extra inch of growth in the end (and that's the only positive). I have seen TREMENDOUS changes since he started. Thank goodness I decided to go for it anyway. Update: I am still on hold at 47 minutes! SFC: FIX THIS PROBLEM! You are running a business. read more

Let me start out by saying that I am very generous with the 2 stars. The ONLY reason for the 2 stars is Dr. Kayser and the Phlebotomist were awesome. Dr. Kayser's staff however are rude, nasty and have no follow through. Never once have I had a good encounter with the staff in the office or over the phone. My son has had nothing but excellent service with Allergist prior to this but since being referred here, we have had nothing but poor service. I strongly recommend that you take your child somewhere else it just not worth the hassle. read more

I couldn't give zero stars, but they certainly don't deserve any stars in my opinion!!! My experience with this office staff has been horrible. I made an appointment back in January for my son to see Dr. Kerr. The appointment was set for today at 3:40PM. I found it odd that I did not get a call to confirm his appointment so I called them. After almost 30minutes sitting on hold I got a live person who told me that the doctor moved practices and is no longer seeing patients at this facility. She gave me a new number to call with no explanation and basically hung up. I called the new number and again had to wait to get a live person. Then she proceeds to tell me in this transition of moving offices new patients had their appointments cancelled and I was never notified! I would have to contact the other office to find out why. I asked to speak to a manager as this is unacceptable that we waited 3 months to see this doctor and this is how we are being treated... I got transferred to a recording and hung up on. I called the other office back to get an explanation and all either office staff wanted to do was blame the other! I am livid and extremely disappointed at the time and energy that was wasted with this office and the new office these doctors transferred to at CNCA. They came highly recommended and now we will never know because I refuse to go to a place where patients are treated in this manner! read more

The endocrinology department is so difficult to schedule appointments. They will only make appointments in the middle of the day so my daughter has to miss school. For her last dr appointment they called 3 months in advance and said we can do 10:30. There were no other options! For my daughters quarterly injections they will do afternoon appointment because we only see the nurse. However today our appointment today was at 3:30 and the injection wasn't given until 4:10. The nurse is great and she apologized but still that is an unacceptable wait time for a simple injection! We see Dr. Tacquard and she is great and so is her nurse Alicia. But the front desk staff and appointment setters could sure use some training! And the waiting room times are too long! read more

We've been coming to this practice for a while for my kids allergies & asthma issues. I absolutely love Dr. K! She's very good with the kids and very informative. The front office staff & nursing staff are also very wonderful. read more

This review is based on 4 years of experience with the pedi endo dept. while the care is clinically adequate, the customer service is subpar. The doctor does not review lab results timely. When I call to check on the results, the nurses are rude. This failure rests squarely on the shoulders of management. I have left messages for the clinical operations manager and they aren't returned. If you can find another pediatric specialist, do so. I'm looking into doctors in San Antonio. That's how bad it is. read more

We had our first visit today with Dr. Kayser and it couldn't have gone better. Our 15 month old has food allergies and we were first referred to another food allergist who was arrogant, didn't even acknowledge our daughter, and shrugged off all of our concerns which left us with many unanswered questions. We had the exact opposite experience with Dr. Kayser. She is incredibly personable and awesome with our daughter. Answered all of our questions, showed empathy, and was obviously updated with the latest food allergy information. We learned so much in our visit, got a complete action plan, and loved the staff. The doctors that were at the specialty clinic have gone above and beyond the call of duty taking care of the children. They treated me good and answered all our questions (this was my daughters comment). I would recommend this clinic to anyone, we have seen infectious diseases and rheumatology.
