Thank goodness I have different insurance so I don't have to deal with this place! My experience there has just been a major inconvenience I took my 18 month old son there because he is allergic to peanuts. We got there 15 minutes early and did not see the doctor until an hour later. The waiting room is the worst kids' waiting room I've ever seen. My son's barber is more geared towards kids then this pediatric doctor's office. A table and a TV. That is it. There is a sign in the waiting room that tells parents not to bring in food because, duh, these kids here are allergic to something. Someone brings in popcorn and the lady who works there says nothing. We finally see the doctor only for her to look at my son and in that 10 minutes tell me we need blood work done and give me brochures on peanut allergies. Seriously?! All the information she gave me I had already learned from his regular pediatrician and the internet. Not to mention the fact that I had already told her my son already has several EpiPens and we've been to the emergency room several times because of peanuts I even had the discharge papers (Which she didn't even look at). We go to get the blood work done and it has been six months and I have heard nothing! I have called repeatedly, left my name and number with so many people I've lost count and gone up to the location multiple times. I've given up on them and hopefully will not have to deal with their lack of care and professionalism. FYI don't bother calling they hardly answer the phone. I've seen this first hand. The most important thing a doctor can do is listen to his patients, and the parents of young patients. Dr. Heintz never does this. He is always in a rush to get patients out of the door. My family brought our 8 year old daughter to Dr. Heintz after a referral from our pediatrician. Our daughter was suffering from a distended stomach and a very rare and complicated disease as well as cardiomyopathy. Despite a worrisome blood pressure, and history of cardiomyopathy this doctor continued to ignore my concerns and the information I shared with him in favor of some data point that in the context of her greater illness meant very little. He prescribed us different treatments and formulas that we told him we had tried previously and they had no effect. Not only were these formulas ineffective they were harmful to my daughter. His response was to keep trying them as we had no data to confirm this. I don't know what other data is needed after telling you our daughter felt worse after taking these things, not better. Our daughter did not have much time, and we are - and at the time were- well aware of how difficult her case might be. However this doctor was arrogant, short sighted, and the worst doctor for a case that required any kind of compassion and deeper problem solving skills. When our daughter was in the hospital soon after, another G.I. doctor took a look at her and was shocked that no one had picked up on that fact that she did not at all have a G.I. problem but that her heart was getting much worse. He pointed to several obvious signs from the beds of her fingernails to her distended stomach and was appalled that she went through so much pain in the last month. While having an accurate diagnosis earlier may not have saved our daughters life it would have spared her and our family a lot of agony, including the agony of taking the wrong treatments. As parents, we have forgiven Dr. Heintz. My daughter passed away, and there is nothing else we can do now, being a doctor can be difficult and we fully understand. However I deeply hope he takes the time to think about the pain he put our child through because of his complete inability to listen. Furthermore, I am writing this review not for myself, but for other parents of children with special and unique needs. While Dr. Heintz may be great for more traditional needs he is not the right doctor for any case that needs true attention, listening, and problem solving. If you are the parent of a child with a chronic illness do NOT go to this doctor- your family and your child's life is worth more than what this man is willing to do. Please screen your doctors, and if they are unwilling to give your family the time and thought that you deserve, try another doctor. read more

I just called to schedule a Pediatric Dermatology appointment for my daughter. It is September and the earliest available appointment was in April 2015. I cannot believe there is not a single open appointment time in the next 8 months. It's a shame - the doctors have great credentials, but we cannot get in to see them. Called another pediatric dermatologist in Austin that is also highly regarded and could get in tomorrow morning. The receptionist was very pleasant, however, I feel they should ask if an appointment so far out is acceptable before taking patient info, contact info, and insurance details as it wasted quite a bit of time. read more

My review actually refers to their clinic on Far West. Our interaction with the neurology dept. We scheduled a visit to officially diagnose our son's Aspergers, which had been evaluated by the school district. Dr. P talked with us for about 30 minutes, but performed nor scheduled any cognitive or behavioral tests. Neither did he ask for school records. Based on a 30 minute interview, he pronounced our son had Aspergers. He did recommend blood work, an MRI and a CT scan. He said they were all precautionary measures just to make 100% certain he had no underlying physical problems. He did not indicate that the blood labs were anything but routine which misled me into thinking they were standard labs, my son even got the blood work taken at the time of the visit...nope, not until after receiving a $3000 bill were we notified they were genetics testing....no one ever went over the specifics of the lab (which we would have decided to be unnecessary) nor the cost. Thank God, we were able to cancel the other tests. Just a warning- ask incredibly thorough and detailed questions about any type of treatment here. read more

So I brought my baby in to see the dermatology dept for a 2nd opinion and I am glad I did. The staff was friendly and great with kids. The nurse who took us back helped push my stroller since I had my hands full. She was gentle with my baby when it came to measurements on weight and height (which btw, the other office never even took my babies measurements, not even weight). When I shared about my concerns she offered support and was again very kind and sympathized with me. When she was done checking me in, she told me they had medical students and I may see them beforehand, which I was fine with. 2 student doctors walk in and they just loved on my baby girl while talking and getting a full history on my child. Again, another thing the other office didn't even ask about (ok I'm done complaining about the other place, just look at my yelp on lone star derm). The students do a full head to toe exam on her and then redress her and hand her back. Entire time my baby was just happy and cooing. So the doctors leave and very quickly the derm doctor came in. Very sweet. She talked about the exam done by the med students and then reexamines my baby. We talked about my concerns and the treatment plan. She goes over everything and medications. I never felt rushed. She said that what was advised at other office, is not advised, especially with babies. So why the 4 stars? The waiting room is TINY and we had to pay for parking. Will def be coming back. read more

I have nothing but good things to say about the Pediatric Gastroenterology group. Dr. Zwiener is my hero. He saved my son's life. How do you thank someone for that? My son was born with a very severe intestinal disease. He was unable to eat for the first three years of his life. During that time, Dr. Zwiener managed his IV nutrition and his medications, and kept him alive until he was able to have a transplant. And, he talked my husband and me into having the transplant, which was a life-saver for our son. Dr. Zwiener has a great bedside manner, is very personable, and takes his time with us at every visit. His nurse, Phoebe is great. She is very kind and caring. I would highly recommend this practice to any parent. read more

We saw Dr. Zwiener again today and just his presence was reasurring to my son. The office staff was helpful getting us in and Dr Zwiener spent the time to explain us what was going on and how to manage the situation. It was quite a relief. read more

We were trying to advocate for our son to get a feeding tube because we knew he likely had a syndrome and would continue to have difficulty feeding. Dr. Zwiener refused to acknowledge our son's difficulties, saying that his inability to eat enough or gain adequate weight was our fault for allowing him to cluster feed and upping the calories in his formula. When Dr. Zwiener saw my son for the first time he had microcephaly, was eating far less than he should, and had abnormal physical features. He instead chose to spend our appointment flirting with my son's speech therapist, trying feebly to speak Spanish with her and saying what a lovely smile she had. When I tried to ask questions he would bark at me, telling me he was busy speaking with her or was not done explaining his (incredibly misguided) thoughts. 3 months later my son got a g-tube through a different hospital (thank God) and a few weeks after that received a diagnosis of a rare genetic mutation that indicated he would require assistance feeding for a minimum of at least 6 more years. If I had followed this doctor's advice (wait longer between feeds until he shows stronger cues - which my son is incapable of, reduce the calories in his formula, not to be concerned) my son may not be here today. Do NOT take your child to see this man - he is a hack who is resting on his laurels instead of actually fully assessing his patients. read more

finally decided to follow through and write a BAD review and feel so much better after reading the other reviews echoing my sentiments. my kids see both dr. karnik and dr. ghodsi in the far west office. i have no complaints about the doctors. however, THE OFFICE/RECEPTIONIST STAFF IS THE WORST I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH. when i tried to return a phone call to dr karnik's assistant, she gave me her actual extension - i was thrilled i didnt have to deal with the "you're #9 in queue". well that extension rang and rang with no answer and no way to leave a message. so, i get to call back and wait in queue...after waiting 30 minutes on hold, i told the receptionist my problem - that the extension just rang and rang. guess what she did. she transferred me to that same extension! so frustrating. i hang up and call back and get the message, "THE OFFICE IS NOW CLOSED'. seriously? i would like to see the practice manager actually read these reviews and do something about it. read more

I give this place two stars based on my experience with the GI clinic. Let me start by saying that everyone was friendly--staff, nurses, etc. However, the low rating is based on the condescending lecture I got about my toddler and his eating habits from a doctor with newborns and a food therapist who was pregnant with her first child. I brought my daughter here to see a neurology nurse for a severe migraine. My daughter was given an injection to stop the pain and sent home with a prescription for a triptan. We discussed prevention, but I asked if we could start with supplements and the nurse agreed. However, my daughter has had repeated attacks in the last three weeks and she has now tried 4 different triptans. I called today to say she had another migraine, had already taken a triptan, and needed something for prevention so she didn't keep getting migraines. I didn't say her pain was severe. When the nurse's assistant called back she was insistent that we take my daughter to the ER immediately to get an IV injection of DHE therapy. She would not prescribe anything for prevention. The nurse argued with me when I questioned whether going to the ER was necessary (my daughter is sleeping and her headache is mostly gone). She insisted that was the only option, that nothing more would be prescribed by the nurse. I looked up DHE therapy and discovered it is in a class of drugs (ergots) that have a SEVERE reaction with triptans - excessive blood vessel narrowing. They cannot be taken within 24 hours of taking a triptan. Also, it is only recommended for headaches that have lasted 3 or more days (vs. my daughter's 30 hours). What sort of nurse insists that a patient go to the ER and put herself at risk of a severe drug interaction? Highly irresponsible. read more

My review is for the endocrinology practice. It took 9 months for us to get our first appointment. In the 12 months since then, we've had 3 doctors. The last one went on maternity leave with no notice to her patients (at least to us) and our only option now is to see a nurse practitioner. They are short with us and act bothered to answer our questions. So awful to have to put your child's healthcare in hands like these. read more

I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Kayser at the allergy & asthma clinic. She is a wonderfully personable physician, and is great in explaining care plans to both adults and kids. Dr Heintz- I would like to give a GREAT thank you for taking fantastic care of my little girl. My daughter had acid reflex and after 3 months of trying to help her keep her food down, I was recommended to see Dr D Heintz, I did not have to wait for an appointment. We were greeted by Marquis the MA who is very likable and funny, We got to meet his nurse Sarah who is very very nice. Then we were greeted my Dr Heintz who's bedside manner was on point. He went over all options we could think of and 2 months later my daughter can now eat and keep all her food down she is now 11 months and very healthy and i give THANKS and PROP's to him and his GI staff in Round Rock! read more

That's a little long to make my baby wait to see what's wrong with her head as she suffers intense pain! And the adult neurologists don't see people under 18?? This review is for the endocrinology practice. Unfortunately giving 0 stars is not an option as that is what they deserve. As one reviewer mentioned it takes forever to get an appointment. But that is just for starters. The office never follows up on what they say they are going to do. We waited months to get them to fill out the paperwork for a new insulin pump. Also, they neglect to call in prescriptions to the pharmacy. This complicates matters for us especially since our child is off to college. I would look elsewhere. read more

this place sucks! The staff is unprofessional and allows patients to bring in dogs. How clean is that? When I attempted to address an issue with management, they forgot I was waiting and even laughed about it. Families were waiting in hallway to be seen and doctors overbooked patients all the time. I hate that this rating is viewed as a positive star. I wish I could post negative stars, that's how bad the service is at this clinic. My child was referred to the neurology department and I was waiting for a call that I never received from the clinic so I called them and after 20 minutes of waiting to talk to someone I tell them that I was referred and wanted to schedule an appt. I merely casually mentioned that I was waiting for a call and the lady who answered goes on saying "We never call patients cuz we're soooo busy, you needed to call us to make an appt. if not we don't know what you need..." she went on and on and almost hung up on me until I told her "Ok, I AM calling so give me an appt." and then she is quiet and just grunting until 5 minutes later she schedules me for an appt. in 3 months and says "that's the earliest I've got, if you don't like it don't come in." WORST customer service ever. I have not actually seen a dr there but I already think the WORST of this place. read more

Let me start by saying the Pediatric Allergy Office is AMAZING!!!! Dr Kayser went above and beyond to treat my daughter. She was instrumental in determining why she had been getting hives for 6 months. The staff was also great. From the front desk staff to the people in the back. We did have to wait about 15 mins to be seen, but there was an abundance of toys to keep my daughter busy. The office even called a couple of days after my daughter's appt to check on her and see how she was doing. read more

My daughter had a few seizures after having a stomach virus and not eating very much for a few days. The EMT got a low blood sugar reading so she was taken to Dell and treated for possible hypoglycemia. Dr. Tacquard was the endocrinologist assigned to us and she was wonderful. Once we were released and had to check my daughter's blood sugar on my own, I had to call her through the Medlink line quite a few times. She always called back quickly and was very reassuring and helpful. read more

I had a great experience with the dermatology office. We went to the allergy office for our first visit and it was just the typical short intro and taking vitals. Our bill was $354 for nothing but a brief consultation. Our portion being $287. I cancelled our next appointment when they told me we would be charged that again on top of allergy testing. It would have been nice for them to have given us an estimate of charges since we made our appointment months in advance. Also, they could have told us to keep our kid off allergy medicine for 7 days before the appointment so she could have been tested at that same appointment instead of being expected to pay another appointment fee. read more

This place, including the doctor we saw and all the staff, are horrendous. It initially took six months to get our first appointment. Our child was being seen for developmental delays; my child was less than 2 years old. First of all, they will try to overcharge you. Make sure you speak to your insurance company to verify how much you should be paying. If you get a bill in the mail, don't pay it until you've confirmed with your insurance company that the charge is valid. We received a $450 bill in the mail that we should never have received. They were also charging us a $40 copay when it should have been $25. The doctor seemed to have made her diagnosis before even seeing our child and kept making us come back to only reaffirm this., ignoring any progress made by my child. When questioned about the validity of this diagnosis, she got mad, offended we did not blindly accept her and stormed out of the room. It was really weird and unprofessional! It makes me feel somewhat better, as unfortunate as it is, to see that I'm not the only parent that feels this way about this office. My children see Dr Goldsmith & Dr Smith (Pediatric Endocrinologists) at the Round Rock offices. They are both knowledgeable, personable, and great. Most of the nurses are also great. The only one that has been rude to us is the newest one. Since she was rude to us, I told her that I did not want to speak to her anymore and wanted to speak to someone else. She kept trying to talk and I continued to tell her that I did not want to speak to her anymore. The office seemed shocked that I would say that to a nurse. The front office person even told me that in her opinion I was rude to the nurse. They obviously don't hear themselves speak. If I'm being spoken to repeatedly by someone who doesn't know what they're saying and is still speaking even though I've told them that I no longer want to speak with them, that is not being rude. It's not my fault that they take something like that personally. The only thing I care about is getting the best care for my child and getting accurate information. I don't want the "I'm sorry for your frustration" speech. I want results and I want facts. If the person I'm speaking to can't provide that for me, then let me speak to someone who can. This person at the front desk at the Round Rock office has always come off as very unprofessional and rude. If I was looking for someone to handle my front office, I would never put someone like her in that position. All of my clients would suffer. I wish there were other pediatric endocrinology offices in the Austin/Round Rock area because I'd definitely switch my children to another office. It takes weeks of calling back and forth to get a prescription to go through. Their appointment scheduling is so unorganized. They continuously book us at different times and at different locations and when we get to their office at the time we were told they act surprised that we're there. We've always gone to the RR office and this last time we were told by a new nurse that the appointment would be at their main office. So we get to their office and are told we're at the wrong location. How are we supposed to know that this is not the main office when it's the only one we've ever been to?!? They should have told us the address and location of their main office. They refused to see us when we stated we would drive to the main office even though we were not told where that was. It was 2:50 pm on a Friday and they don't close until 5:00 pm but they told us that all of the providers were already gone. If they're already gone who would we have seen if we had made it to that location then?!? They speak to us like we're idiots and as if we're below them. Now we've had to reschedule yet again and everyone will have to take time off of work and school in order to make this next appointment. This is not the first time that they screw up our children's appointments. Their billing is a mess. We have corrected them several times because they have a wrong number or letter from our insurance ID card and they bill it that way and it never goes through correctly. The doctors and most of the nurses are amazing and the office would be the best in Austin for children if they would hire knowledgeable, professional staff that treated everyone with respect and knew what they were actually doing. read more

Wow...have read the other reviews and see that I'm not alone! The doctors may be knowledgeable (I've only had one appt so far and liked the individual I saw) but the appointment and patient care process are so completely unacceptable that I'd exhaust your other options before signing on with this practice. My experiences follow a similar thread to the others...inability to get an appt in a timely manner (4 mos just for a follow up appt!), inability to actually speak to a live person whether it's the nurse or the physician if your child has a medical problem. Recently, my daughter had severe migraines which were not responsive to the prescribed treatment plan and she was missing several days of school and was in much pain and discomfort. I left a message with the nurse (per available phone menu options) who didn't call back for 24 hrs. I ended up going to the pediatrician instead (their med tech calls back the SAME day and sometimes, the pediatrician from Schoolhouse Pediatrics herself will call to talk to me...same thing with my child psychiatrist, Dr. William Streusand). For the past 2 migraines which were not responsive, all I did was play phone tag back and forth while the tech would say she "relayed the message to the doctor." I ended up taking her to the ER who said, "we can't treat her without knowing what the neurologist wants to give her." What a frustrating experience! Not pleased at all. Unfortunately, I think they're the only game in town for most specialities which is maybe why they're not motivated to simply change their admin practices which would help kids and relieve parent's worries and frustrations. I asked to speak to the office manager a couple of days ago...left a VM message in her box and haven't heard back yet. read more

I'm not sure what's going on with the office staff with genetics. I originally scheduled an appointment with them for a specific doctor in their department based on a referral from our neurologist, but based on their own interpretation, they decided to reschedule with another geneticist. It turns out that they should have scheduled an appointment with the doctor that I requested in the first place and now we won't be able to see the geneticist until Feb 2015. In addition, the person called to reschedule didn't bother to cancel the existing one, put me on the wrong wait list, provided scripted apologies, and didn't bother to provide me any information. As for neurology, I have no complaints with the doctor and they are prompt with the appointments during the times we've gone in. The front office staff in neurology have been accommodating. However, my messages rarely get returned and I never did get a call back about my son's MRI results - had to wait over 6 weeks to get them in person even though I had asked about it several times (messages over the phone and email). read more

The doctors are wonderful, I have only been to the neuro side, but I love them. I dont love paying for parking, and i am disabled so a long walk to the free spots is out of the question, but the doctors here are caring and thorough and that makes up for the parking and the insurance hassles (I have to have my insurance authorize because they are out of network for me, which the office has actually helped with!). I have had to call after hours and was even helped then in a pretty fast manner and the doctors on call were all polite and knowledgeable. It helps that there is a doctor here who is not only a neuro but actually specializes in epilepsy, which my daughter has. Also, as many degrees as these guys have, you would think they would be snooty or condescending, but they aren't, they are very down to earth and my daughter loves them:) I am dreading so much the foray she will have to make into adult neurologists next year. I will miss these guys terribly! read more
