Very unprofessional office: My son (19 years old) called…read morethis office and gave them his vision insurance info to confirm that they took his insurance. They told him that he was In Network. After her drove 25 minutes to his appointment, they told him that he was OUT of network. The secretary said "Just pay for the exam and you can call your insurance and figure it out later". He was smart enough to call me first to see if this was appropriate. I asked to speak to the secretary that was talking to him. I heard her say that she was too busy. After another 10 minutes, another woman came to the phone and said that they "usually verify insurance 1-2 days before appointments, but we must have been too busy". I asked them to call the insurance to verify (they had just went on the website initially). 20 minutes later, they told my son that he was out of network, so I told him to cancel the insurance and we would find another optometry center. I called to make him an appointment at SVS. I asked them to verify In network insurance so that this would not happen to my son again. The secretary was very nice and agreed, but she saw that Village Vision Center had not released/cancelled his appointment yet, so she could not access his account/verify that he was due for an eye exam until they released the appointment. I had to call Village Vision back and tell them to release his appointment. The secretary said that they released it "as soon as he cancelled his appointment", which I know is not true as it took me at least 10-15 minutes to call the second optometry office.... Shame on them for NOT actually verifying his insurance when he called to make the appointment AND then trying to get him to pay upfront and imply that the insurance would pay for it if he just called them later!

When I called again, someone walked the message to the Vision office, and I received a call. My glasses had been there for over two weeks. I had not been notified because Vision was calling a phone number I had not had for over five years. No one asked if that number was the correct one to notify me. While the exam was professional, the clerical staff is not up to par. Someone should have updated my information at the time of the exam. No one asked me for phone numbers: not my cell or landline or even my email address for a contact.

I'm of an age where I worried about needing cataract surgery at some point, and I was pleased that not only could he explain the options and issues with this, he pulled out a chart that showed me what my lens looks like in comparison with the darkening age can bring. I saw him during the COVID times and I was impressed with what he did to ensure sanitation. He does seem to have an affinity for University of Indiana sports, but no one is perfect.

But as this concerns a matter of personal health and wellness, I'm posting this two star review for this business. I went to this establishment recently (in September 2025) for a routine eye exam and I sure wish I had read the lowest reviews first. One positive: I was seen on time by a Dr. Ayysha but before that, the office manager, did some "intake tests", such as checking pressure in the eyes and also doing, rather ineptly (one eye had to be redone) the retinal imaging. What qualifications she had (besides referring to a chart on the wall of what is the correct position of the eye), I have no idea. Dr. Ayysha performed a very perfunctory exam and appeared in sloppy non-professional (IMO) garb, as if she had just come back from a workout. She was personable, there's another positive. I asked for the retina scan photos to be sent to me in files (which a previous provider had done) and was told by the office manager that she didn't know how to do that and people usually take a photo with their phones. I asked Dr. Ayysha if she could get the scans sent to me and she said that the OM would "try to find out" how to do that. I'll check back in a week if I don't receive anything but I'm not optimistic. Finally, I tried on various frames and before leaving remarked that many of the frames are dirty (meaning, smudged, dusty, etc.). They obviously hadn't been cleaned in quite a while. The not-the-office manager guy just said 'thank you". OK, well then. I won't know if anyone cleaned the frames because I won't be returning to this business for new glasses.

I will now have another exam and have to pay out of pocket for it. I am so extremely disappointed to have wasted a visit with her. There is high degree of unprofessional attitude and lack of respect for clients. I don't recommend anyone to schedule eye exams with Vision works, as there is total lack of respect, understanding and empathy for clients in both certain staff and doctors here. They helped me pick out glasses as well based on what I said I liked (and actual listened!). The office is super nice and the people in it are nicer. For Covid, they're taking tons of precautions. Spacing out appointments (both visits I was alone in the waiting area) , masks on everyone, sanitizer, pretty much everything they can do and remain open.

I have been dealing with this for 2-3 years, and Dr. Jonathan Weston and staff were extremely helpful. The front staff was welcoming, kind, and diverse. Desi, the tech, was wonderful and patient. Dr. Weston was thorough, gave options, and was reassuring and comforting throughout my three visits with him for the issue. Staff was able to move me to the downtown location for my third visit so that I could continue to see Dr. Weston for the pain issue. I will definitely be going back for regular care as well as any other emergencies that pop up. They made the whole experience way less scary, and I finally feel like I have some answers and a path forward. Thank you to the whole team!

It's super easy to get an appointment, their staff is super helpful and friendly, and the optometrists are really friendly and easy going. When I order contacts they come in quickly and in great condition. I'm also notorious for ordering said contact lenses and forgetting to pick them up when they come (requiring several reminder phone calls) and the staff hasn't kicked me out of their client list yet, which I appreciate! HA. I can't speak too much about their frame selection because I typically get my contacts through them and take my prescription elsewhere to get some glasses (I like kinda funkier frames, TBH) but when I've glanced around I've noticed that they do carry some really nice, well-known designer brands. Looking at their website gives me a refresher that they carry the likes of Coach, Guess, Kate Spade, Kenneth Cole, etc. I have an eye appointment next week actually and I might spend a bit more time looking for some frames through them, even.

Based on 2023 insurance data, over 89% of public school teachers in Michigan currently have MESSA. I took a half a day of summer school off, which is paid by the hour, to attend the appointment, which equates to $45.00 an hour at 3 hours to equal a total of $135.00 that I lost, not including the out of pocket expense they charged me for the exam which came to $210.00. What a waste of time and money. TEACHERS BEWARE!
