I read all these positive reviews and decided to take the plunge and spend more money to get a pair of really cool (plus functional) glasses. I was quite disappointed with my experience. I have a narrow face and the staff had absolutely no way to filter their thousands of frames by size--something that is routine elsewhere, including the cheapest online service. They went around the room filled to the ceiling with with cute frames and brought me back about a dozen to try--all boring rectangles. I had thought I was smart to purchase a Groupon that was available for the time period, which gave me a $250 credit for $36, but now I felt like I had to use it, so I spent $700 for a pair of glasses I don't use. I'm back to wearing my old--but much more interesting--Warby Parker glasses and also just went to the WP store for a new pair of funky sunglasses, which were easy to find by fit. read more

They had some very fun frames, cool frames and serious frames that I really liked. It is quite expensive, but they have great selection. They have huge selection of brand products. 2. Excellent service Service was great. They make you feel like you are most welcome. We were offered water, coffee and/or coke to drink, chocolate chip cookies to eat, amazing Belgian chocolates to have and when it was time to leave the store, I was given a rose. (look at my pic-my first time seeing a rose in small test tube water attached at the bottom). You can have a nice meal across the street, walk on Grand avenue or browse the boutiques nearby. Okay. So as you may have seen, my Spectacle Shoppe location on Robert Street in West Saint Paul closed due to the city re-doing the roads. So, this is the next closest location to my home. Once I knew I was going to be getting insurance again, I set up an appointment. I will warn you ahead of time, though the office is open most days of the week, the optometrist does have very specific hours. But it is definitely worth the wait. Here's why - unlike going to a repair shop, car dealership, and other various places where your opinion and requests might be challenged, THESE GUYS ACTUALLY LISTENED TO WHAT I WANT. I haven't had a pair of glasses in years. I am an avid contact lens wearer and I generally don't like how they sit on my face. But, as many have pointed out over the years, it would be helpful to have a back up pair just in case (random eye irritations, losing one down the sink, swimming, heck, even just rubbing your eyes first thing in the morning). Why am I sharing this with you? Because my intention when I walked in to get my annual eye exam and reorder contacts, was not to actually purchase glasses there. I found some frames through an online retailer I wanted to try and buy. My anxiety was they would try to pressure me into buying them there and/or getting crabby about me asking for my prescription to take it somewhere else. Not so. The staff at this location is very warm and friendly, and when I went to order my contacts at the front desk, I was told the next time I come in to pick them up I get 2 flowers (they were out or I would have gone home with one)! Wonderful experience, starting with optometrist Dr. Erickson, who provided the best eye exam I have ever had. The questions he asked conveyed a genuine concern for my wellness, not limited to my eyes. He provided a thorough examination with explanations at each step. Bonnie helped me choose frames from their large collection (hmm, not those, but yes those!) that are really comfortable and look fabulous on me -- and it's no small thing for me to say that! I reeeeeally wanted to like this place because they have some cute, modern frames and a lot of places just have the standard snoozers. But from the beginning, it didn't go great. I have a concern with my eye that I told the optometrist. He seemed to brush it off, I'm guessing because he had no idea what my problem is. He gave me some eye drops for it and sent me on my way. Later I noticed they had expired, sooooo thanks for that! And I still have my eye problem, of course. And now I'll have to see someone else who will actually at least try to figure out what's going on. Then I went to look for frames. The optician asked what I was looking for. Great! Plastic, color, modern, no rectangles, no black (I've had black frames for years, want something new). She brought me nothing that I asked for. It was so weird. I figured she liked them because they were frames she'd wear?? I felt bad saying no, no, no every time I tried hers on. Finally I escaped and could look on my own. Then I went to pay the bill and it was figured out wrong. I even brought up one issue with it and she didn't seem to want to redo it. I got some attitude. So now I am stuck dealing with my eye insurance and getting reimbursed through them. Honestly I would never come back here again. Just too many issues in one little visit. read more

Bought Chanel glasses here in dec 2015 with scratch resistant coating. Fast forward to today 1 year and 2 months later I call and speak with Sarah about how to fix slight scratches on the glass lens. Sadly they don't honor or offer any fixes after a year. Never mind it's only 2 months post the year mark and secondly and perhaps more importantly that I was planning to purchase a new Chanel pair this year. Her only offer was for me to BUY new lenses. Lack of expertise from the customer service rep regarding specific lens questions. Did not honor the $100 off coupon that I found online. Came in to find a good deal on a pair of Ray-Bans as a gift but the lack of actual help turned me off and I went home to buy the Ray-Bans on Amazon that were cheaper still, even if I had been able to use the $100 off coupon in store. Better off researching and purchasing online at Amazon IMO. read more

Stopped in yesterday for some new specs. Normally I have to go through 20-30 frames before I find something I kinda like. Told Brett what I did and did not want in a frame. He showed my 6-8 different frames, which I whittled down to two styles in two colors very quickly. After a quick pic to the lovely bride I had a new frame picked out in about 20 minutes. Michaela took over and worked out all the lens options and dealt with the (ugh!) insurance companies to get me the best deal. She even mentioned the Groupon offer I had forgotten about, saving me an additional $210! Love this place!! read more

The Spectacle Shop has gone above and beyond for me. I am so Appreciative of them and their help. I bought some really cool frames at the State Fair (check out all their unusual frames in the Grandstand!) When I went in to get an updated prescription from them, they discovered that I had some serious issues with my eye that I had just gotten used to over time. They recommended that I see a specialist. Since that time I have had had 2 cornea transplants. If I had let the condition continue I would not have had the great results that I have had. I kept them in the loop during this year and half period. Now I'm ready for new glasses but no longer need reading glasses which are the frames I purchased at the State Fair. They said no problem! They said come in, pick new frames and they will give me credit for the 2 sets I already purchased! What better custom service can you ask for!! 5 stars for sure! read more

I've never had to get glasses before but I had heard of them from Groupon. I have vision insurance through work which ended up being better than the Groupon so I went that route. Anyways Brett was one of the best sales guys I've had in a long time. He was super knowledgeable and when we figured out what kind of frames I liked he would wander off and bring several kinds to me at a time while I stood in front of the section with the majority of the kinds I liked. The eye exam was quick and the doctor in there was a really nice guy. I love my glasses now and am happy I stopped by. Great place to shop for glasses of any kinds! read more

Just had an amazing experience here. My girlfriends screw had fallen out of her glasses, and we couldn't get it screwed back in, even after buying an optical repair kit. We happen to be walking by this place and stopped in on a whim that they may be able to repair the glasses. Michaela was so welcoming as we came in and said she would be happy to repair the glasses at no charge. We hadn't even bought the glasses there! She offered us something to drink as we waited and her were even offered a rose on the way out the door after she had fix the glasses within three minutes. You just don't experience customer service like that anymore. It was such a refreshing, pleasant and warm experience. What a great place. Go in there and ask for Michaela - she will take care of you!
