I keep coming back because of Dr. Nguyen and Julie! I had so much trouble picking out new frames when I was told I could no longer order my William Morris favorites. Mix in a pandemic, and I'd run out of contacts and no longer had an updated prescription for my glasses (that WEREN'T broken)! So I was happy when I was able to sneak in and get a quick prescription adjustment. And order contacts that would be available in 7 days! Glasses are still taking about 3 to 4 weeks, but...during the height of the pandemic it was like 2 months to get CONTACTS! I can't wait to show off the new frames. They are new. They are different. I wanted to specially mention the excellent experience I have had with Quinn who is one of the opticians there. She really knows how to choose, fit, and adjust glasses. Progressive lens glasses require very precise adjustments to obtain good vision. She has managed over and over again to readjust my glasses after I somehow twist, push, or distort their alignmnent in everyday life. Really a valuable health care professional! read more

Having been Dr. Mastman's patient for a long time, I was surprised to find out the clinic refused to schedule an appointment with him because I had cataract surgeries performed by an eye surgeon outside the Spectrum group. The office stated it was their policy to not see patients within 90 days of a surgery if performed outside the Spectrum group. The most vexing part is that I had asked to be seen by a cataract surgeon at this clinic who declined to see me because she does not like to use the lenses I wanted. As a result, I am no longer Spectrum's or Dr. Mastman's patient. One cannot afford to be a patient of a physician whose availability is contingent on not being treated by other physicians. read more

This review is specific to the service provided by Dr. R, an optometrist. I found my experience with Dr. R to be lacking. During my visit, I felt that she did not dedicate enough time to ensure precise vision correction. The prescription she provided did not work for me. I asked for an adjustment, and she reluctantly made a change. Unfortunately, it still didn't work. A routine annual visit for eyeglasses should not be this challenging. read more

I won't be coming back to Spectrum. They are impossible to reach (by phone) and aren't very professional. Billing makes constant mistakes and it's not a good experience at all. I also feel their doctors aren't the best of the best. I've had numerous errors from their optometrists over a 15 year period. Lens Crafters is better than Spectrum. My wife and I have left Spectrum over a relatively small billing dispute. We have been patients for decades. My wife was told she would not be billed for refraction for contacts since she had just had eyes tested within 5 months. She was later invoiced. After several attempts to resolve the issue the "billing service" refused to credit her account saying the '3 month rule' (policy) could not be adjusted. This is a shame as they have lost two really good customers over inflexibility and outsourcing billing. Detaching one's business operations and patient goodwill through inflexible rules (policy) is not good business. The human side is lost. BTW; we cannot recall ever disputing a charge. Goodbye Spectrum At approximately 9 am a day after this review my wife received a call from the billing vendor reversing the charge. "We were unaware there were extenuating circumstances" while we appreciate the gesture the comment is not true. This reversal of direction only came after this Yelp review. We had been battling with the billing people for months. They were well aware of the circumstances. At approximately 9:45 today received nice email apology through Yelp mail box from Office Manager. It's a shame $60 charge has cost so much time and money not to mention the loss of two loyal patients who have referred many neighbors and family to Spectrum. Unfortunately this is not the end of the saga as my new Doctor has yet to receive my records requested of Spectrum over about two months ago. My wife finally had to go back to Spectrum and request her records in the spot as her new doctor had not received the records either. read more

Came in to see Dr. Mastman at this location, I typically go to his other location near Good Sam but I had something in my eye that I just couldn't seem to get out after trying for 2 days. So I called the office and they took me in right away. The inside of the office and waiting room is very spacious with lots of seating and it look very nice and clean as well. I was called and brought to a room where an employee confirmed that my vision hadn't changed and checked my eye pressure's. (at my request) After about 10 min Dr. Mastman walked in and I explained what happened to my eye, he looked at me with with this (are you crazy look) when I told him it has been hurting me for 2 days C; (what can I say, I'm thick headed) Long story short.... yup there was a piece of foreign material in my eye and it cut into my Cornea, he numbed my eye and quickly removed it and gave me some antibiotic eye drops to stop any infections 24 hours later my eye feel 100% again!!! Thank you Doctor Mastman and staff!!! You guys are the best!!! read more

I have a pair of very expensive frames that I love very much. They're made by Lunor, and they're round frameless glasses, the same style worn by Steve Jobs. They're only four years old, but for some reason Spectrum kept thinking they were "old" and commented that they "don't make them like this anymore." Whatever, I let those comments slide because it doesn't really matter. But when I wanted to keep my same frames (as I have for the past four years), I had to sign a waiver that Spectrum isn't responsible for any damage to the frames. Yes, I should have ran away when they pulled that out. But I thought Spectrum was reputable and careful. I was wrong. When I went in to pick up my glasses, the frames were bent completely out of shape. It was completely absurd. The lady bent them back in shape, as I cringed. It took her several tries to get them somewhat correct, but, they're still not right. But worse, the coating on the arm that goes over the ear has been partially broken off on the left side (I'll add a photo). I pointed that out and asked what happened here. She said "well, they're old frames..." I interrupted her and told her they're not old, they're only four years old. And, even if they were "old" that shouldn't matter, these were perfect when I sent them in. She just brushed it off stating that "customer frames don't always come back the same." Well, customers don't always come back, especially after I entrusted you to my frames under the assumption that you would handle them with care and thought that you actually gave a s**t about your customers. I was mistaken. I won't make that mistake again. You broke my glasses and brushed it off as essentially my fault. I won't be back again. ____________________ Edit (Additional Info) This afternoon I took my glasses to someone who's an expert with high-end brands, in particular Lunor (like I have). What I wrote above gets even worse from here. And the only reason I didn't go to this specialist to begin with is because they don't take insurance. I've learned my lesson. From now on, I'll be paying about $400+ for lenses instead trusting them to Spectrum (or any other optometrist who isn't familiar with the brand). My guy took a look at these and noticed that when opening the right arm, the lens would actually move. If you'll look at picture 4, you'll see the frame holds the lens on the left and screw goes into it to keep it in place. He took it to the back to tighten the bolt and discovered more. He couldn't tighten the screw as it was pretty much stripped. What's worse, the screw was too small for the hole that was drilled in the lens. Because the hole was drilled too large, the screw just wobbles around in the hole, and the screw likely got stripped when the lady tried bending my glasses back in shape. Also, the incorrect nut was used. If you at picture 1, that's the left arm and what the bolt should look like. Now, look at picture 2, that's the right arm. Apparently, they simply discarded the original nut and tried to put a larger one on to hold it in place. While my guy did have the correct screw and nut, he couldn't put them in because it wouldn't hold the lens properly. He did put in a larger screw and nut, this one holds it securely and correctly, but looks terrible. So, the hole in the lens was drilled the wrong size. Instead of correcting that by making a new lens, the lab decided to just put my old screw back in, discard the original nut, and put a larger nut in in hopes that would work. It didn't. And of course, picture 3 shows the broken ear piece. That's getting replaced, but my guy had to order the part. He can't, however, fix the screw and nut problem because it will require new lenses with properly drilled holes. He managed to find a nut and screw that would work, it'll hold it just fine until I need new lenses again. So, I basically just have to live with this until I need new lenses (because I'm not paying for another set of lenses when I just got these). Folks, if you care about your glasses, don't entrust them to Spectrum. There's serious quality control issues here. They didn't even bother to try to present them correctly to me when I picked them up. It's just insane that a business operates this way. read more

Unfortunately I don't think I can tolerate the BS in trying to get appointments with this office any more. It used to be fairly easy to get an appointment and they had helpful staff, but that is all changed. Try to make an appointment on their website, and you'll never hear back from them. Call them for an appointment and basically get brushed off. Note to Doctors at Spectrum Eye Physicians: Your brand is defined by your front desk staff. If they are rude or unhelpful, then YOU, by association, are rude and unhelpful. After all, you hire the staff to man the phones and answer web enquiries. This is getting to be more and more common in healthcare: the shortage of friendly and helpful front desk staff is becoming more and more apparent, and the results are that it tarnishes the reputation of the entire firm. I had a dry eyes consultation with Dr. El-Sawy. He saw me for at most 5 minutes, did a cursory look at my eyes, and told me to use warm compressors. After I told him that I had already been using them for months, he questioned if I was telling the truth, and said "just use them longer then." I said I was using them for 20 minutes in the morning and in the evening and went over the details of how I used them. He refused to believe me and was very impatient. A few weeks later, I received a bill for $240, with the CPT code of 99204. After looking ip this code, I discovered that he had billed me for an appointment lasting between 45-60 minutes. I then called the billing office to dispute this code several times. Each time the billing office said they are just a contractor and that they reached out to the office receptionist about the dispute, but that the office was unresponsive. Their billing practice is likely fraudulent. If you used Medicare of Medicaid, I recommend looking carefully at the CPT code they used and filling a complaint directly with your insurer about their billing practice. Clearly, they are up charging patients. Subsequently, I went to see another optometrist, who did a much more thorough examination, including flipping my eyelids, and diagnosed me with several specific conditions and carefully explained them to me, as well as additional treatment. Those appointments lasted about 30 minutes and were billed as 30 minutes appointments. read more

Five stars for Dr. El-Sawy. Such a great doctor who helped me through 4-5 years of tear duct issues including a recent tear duct reconstruction due to permanent blockage. Comparing the surgery performed to photos of others, there is barely a scar just 3 months later. Excellent bedside manner, he makes it easy to understand what is going on and doesn't overcomplicate things. I've been a patient here for 4-5 years and I haven't ever experienced any of the billing issues that others have left reviews about so I can't speak to that side of things. There have been a couple of times where things were running behind, but that happens here and there. Staff and docs get called on emergencies, I get that. I have also never ordered glasses through them so I cannot speak to that experience. It seems like there should be a separate review paths for the Doctor's Office vs the Optical Shop. read more

I visited Spectrum Eye Physicians today and really had a good experience. EveryoneI met was kind and supportive. They let me in as the last patient even though I got there a little late. The doctor was very knowledgeable and he made sure to run a series of exams to make sure there was no anomaly in either one of my eyes. He was thorough and professional. For over 30 years my wife and I have been doing all our Eye Care with Spectrum and with Dr. Mastman, include Both our cataract surgeries. Which, during that time we Rated him with 5 Stars. But in the last two years we have had nothing but problems, both with the Doctor and eyeglass department. Prior to going to a eye specialist, she was exam by one of Specrum's lady Eye Doctors and prescribed two sets of glasses, one for reading and one for long distance. My wife is losing her eyesight due to medication that she has been taking for the last 7 months. This never concerned Dr. Mastman, but to get us off his back he sent us to an Eye Specilist Dr. Borrillo. He gave her and exam and told her she was lucky, because had she continued with that specific medications she would be BLIND, as 7 moths is the longest she should have been on that med. He told her to stop taking the med's right now and gave her a new prescription. And will continue to monitor her eyes. But the glasses that Spectrum prescribed has been on order now for the last there weeks and each time we call they give us another date passed the three weeks. So we are still waiting for the new glasses, but do not feel a lot of love from the EyeGlass Dept. or the Spectrum Doctor's. So think twice before you go to Spectrum Eye Physicians - Cupertino. Giving this office one star is not deserved! Be aware do not come here it's expensive and the staff is disrespectful and always upset. The office is definitely not upbeat and never seem to have it together. I received a call from Joe who I have never met telling me on the day of my appointment that I was being dismissed as a patient because I wasn't purchasing anything.. The office will order frames for you to try on and then they expect you to forcefully purchase them ridiculous customer service. Why does this place have such a low Yelp rating? I have nothing but positive words for this place. It sucks because due to the lower rating, I was slightly apprehensive about coming here. However, my sister is also a patient here and had mentioned no complaints or issues with professionals at this location. I was seen by Dr. Nguyen this morning for my first eye checkup exam in about 3 years. Afterwards, Natalie taught me the proper applying and removing procedures for my new contact lenses. Front office typically does not answer the phone.. you have to navigate through a number of options to reach them.. They act like a HUGE hospital!! Once you DO get through to them, their phone service person is very rude. If you still end up going there - because your spouse goes there and you are pushed into going there, it takes a very long time to get your glasses. For my son new prescription glass, the lady has typo in the order and causing my son getting a wrong power prescription. Avoid this place with all cost. This business is unethical. I'm going to file a complaint with the Board of Optometry. In April 2019, I made an appointment to get my eyes test. Once I get to my appointment, the receptionist asked for my insurance card, then informed me that I have to pay $170 for this appointment AFTER the insurance coverage. I paid $170 and the check was cashed immediately. After I received the insurance information, it turned out that my deductible was only $70. After couple weeks, I called Spectrum in Cupertino and spoke with a lady in billing and invoice, it took her a long time to find my records. She then told me that a $100 check will be processed and refunded back to me within 4 to 6 weeks. After waiting for over 2 months, I called again today. The billing and invoice option 4 was ringing forever. The account payable option 6 has no-one. So, I pressed option 0 and the lady answered the phone only interested in setting an appointment. When I questioned her about my refund, again, she could not find my records either and promised me that she would call me back after talking to the billing and invoice department. read more

Be Aware! Do not get your contacts here!! Not only has the contacts price gone up 100% in 2019, they also misinform and misrepresent your benefits. They did not offer the 15% discount for out-of-pocket examination/fitting fee. Secondly, they misrepresented the fact that if I apply the examination/fitting fee toward contacts allowance in this office, I will lose the remaining benefit as a whole if I choose to purchase the contacts in another office. This is viewed in my opinion as a pressuring tacit to purchase the contacts in their office only. I was skeptical and called VSP customer service and filed a complaint, and confirmed not only did they not offer the discount which are clearly stated on the benefit, and they also misrepresented the fact that exam/fitting fees and contacts purchase can be done perfectly acceptable in two different offices. read more

My child's glasses now fall off easily whenever I tried to clean it. I think it might be because this store got my child's prescription wrong and tempered with the glasses. I am so angry as we pay for a very expensive pair of frame. I also think the owner of this store hire someone to respond on the Internet to make them look good, while in fact they don't care about the quality control at all. They had many chances to provide us with good services and product, yet they kept on doing the wrong thing. All they do now is pretend that they care and pretend that they are sincere. I tried this place because my old eye doctor was retiring. During my first visit I had to wait 40 minutes to see the technician. Then another 10 minutes to see the eye doctor. That appointment only lasted 5 minutes. My next visit was just as painful. I had a 30 minute wait to see the "eye doctor". But, it was actually the technician who did the vision test. The office is old and the front staff lacks any interpersonal skills. I can't believe that as a new customer no one appologized for the wait. Just because it's a normal occurrence for them, does not make it acceptable. read more

June 28 my wife went in for an eye check up. Two weeks later, July 12, the glasses were still not ready. They did not even reach out to us. We had to call them and remind them we were waiting on glasses.. They told us the reason for the delay was July 4 (which is a horrible excuse because July 4 would only delay anything by one business day) At the three weeks mark (July 20) we called them again. This time they said the reason for the delay was due to my wife's high prescription. They could not guarantee when we would have the glasses. It does not take one month to make glasses. At no time did they apologize, and they instead shift the blame on other factors (blaming the holiday or even blame my wife, the customer). This is very unprofessional and I cannot recommend them to anyone. Also, my wife scheduled a separate appointment to get her contact lens prescription (for some reason some of the doctors can only do glasses prescription) and they called her last minute the day of because the doctor was not able to come in. Misguided customer services. I made an appointment three weeks earlier and had provided all needed insurance information. The staff told me that I may simply need an optometrist eye examination if a cataract surgery is not necessary, but it costs $60 out of my pocket. I agree and accept the suggestions. It turns out my appointment was refused because HMO requires my primary doctor's authorization even I pay the eye examine by myself. P.S. I received a lasik eye surgery by Spectrum several years This is an update to the review after receiving the actual cataract surgery from Dr. Liu. The whole procedure takes about 4 weeks for both eyes. They manage a systematic process for all patients at the same period of time. This results a very efficient customer service, low waiting time and low misstep for each visit. Very effective clinic managements!!! read more

I called this morning to make an appointment for my daughter. It was an uphill battle from the beginning. It makes me sad that even a simple task of making an appointment has to be so frustrating. I wanted my daughter to be seen by an MD because I wanted to get a second opinion for a diagnosis made by another MD. After I explained this, the person on the phone tried to give me an appointment with an OD instead (probably her favorite). From then on, she wasn't cooperative at all. After repeating myself a few times and spending more than 8 minutes, I had no choice but hang up with no appointment. Spectrum Eye and particularly this person need to understand that when I say I want to make an appointment with a particular provider, I mean just that. After getting sick of my previous doc (long waits, constantly trying to sell me on expensive procedures that weren't appropriate for a chronic eye condition I have), I had a friend recommend Dr. Liu to me. What a world of difference! Waits were much less, he and his staff aren't pushy, and I feel he really listens when I tell him about the current status of my eyes and he then responds appropriately. Really great service here. I bought some new prescription sunglasses a few months ago, which was a painless process and the glasses were ready far sooner than I expected. Unfortunately (and predictably), my dog got hold of the new sunglasses recently. I took the chewed frames in to see if they could be replaced, but Spectrum was able to fix them for me at no charge. My family and I have been a customer here for over 3 years. We have consistently getting excellent care from my optometrist Dr. Leeanna Nguyen. She is a very professional and knowledgeable. She is attentive, always takes the time to answer all my questions and I never felt rushed out of the office. My 7 year old daughter needed glasses recently and Dr. Nguyen clarified everything effectively to me, and even to my little one and made her feel good about wearing glasses. The staff were very professional, friendly and helpful. Stephanie and Natalie offer great customer service and they are experts in helping you choosing the right frames. I have been a patient for many years but recently had the unpleasant experience of being overbilled. They insisted on a $100 payment for a routine office appointment despite my co-payment being only $45. It took me many months of repeated phone calls, wasted time and wrangling with them to eventually get the $55 back. After some research, I discovered that their practice of demanding more up front than the co-payment is in clear violation of their contracts with the various insurance companies. I told them that but they didn't care or didn't understand and had a roundabout, non-sensical explanation for their actions. The $55 itself is chump change, but this incident made me not trust them anymore. I may switch providers although the medical care is in fact good at Spectrum. I see many others have experienced similar issues. read more
