I read many negative reviews but decided to give this location a try, and I'm really glad I did. I scheduled a 10:00 a.m. appointment and was advised to arrive early to complete paperwork as a new patient. I was seen within five minutes of my appointment time, which is pretty quick for an office that was packed. The doctors were very kind and took the time to explain each instrument they used while examining my eyes. They frequently checked in to make sure I was comfortable, which helped me feel at ease and confident in the care I was receiving. At the end of my visit, the doctor explained my results clearly and in a way that was easy to understand. Overall, it was a great experience. The front desk staff were friendly and attentive, and the doctor who assisted me was equally kind and professional. I scheduled two more appointments for the coming months. Assembly-line medicine at its absolute worst. This place is a high-speed corporate mill designed to maximize revenue, where individualized patient care is little more than a distant afterthought. The entire experience is completely templatized. You can fully explain your symptoms, but it doesn't matter--you just get a generic, pre-packaged response because their cookie-cutter solutions are already predetermined. There is zero effort to actually dig into individual issues or tailor a treatment to your specific needs. Instead, it is pure insurance volume churning at its finest, prioritizing speed and billable units over actual healthcare. To make matters worse, I dropped thousands of dollars out-of-pocket for IPL and LipiFlow procedures, yet they still forced a copay out of me for every quick, useless follow-up just so they could milk the insurance company for even more money. Their billing practices border on extortion: if you don't pay your copay before walking out, they slap you with an additional $10 fee just to mail a bill. This is an unheard-of, predatory gimmick. The woman at the front desk was extremely rude, rushing me to pay before I could even walk out the door and using that surcharge as a threat. From the hostile reception to the money-hungry operation in the back, this place treats you like an ATM rather than a patient. read more

Clinic was ok, but the prescription was way off, and quality of lenses subpar. My impression is they are focusing on pushing sales and maxing out insurance money instead of you getting the right glasses. Frames and lenses were charged to insurance at a very high premium, so out of pocket ended up paying just below what I would pay elsewhere no insurance. Prescription lenses I got here were quite bad. I spent $1200 for a pair of scleral contact lenses, which require precise fitting. After three months and three separate sets of contacts (each of which required several weeks to arrive and a followup visit to fit) as my physician tried to get a proper fit, I finally decided that the process was unlikely to succeed and requested a refund. My request was denied, on grounds that I'd had followup visits over the three months. I assume that they think they treated me fairly but I don't. I'd be fine paying for services rendered but paying for contacts that they were never able to fit me for sits wrong. read more

Three parts, Diagnostic Prep: Kelly processed me to help understand where my current vision health stood prior to handing me off to Dr. Johnson. She did a fantastic job of making me feel at home despite me being a bit ornery. In short, I just wanted my Eyeglass prescription updated due to a plethora of other care I already am engaged in elsewhere and have been for many years. She helped me to understand the breath of their diagnostic services should I decide to add this team to my care in the future. She is a keeper. Detailed Examination: Doctor Johnson provided my primary care and had a great bedside manner. She helped explain any necessary answers to the multiple questions that I had throughout the process! Including, I need to learn what that 1? Or 2? 6? Or 7? Machine does that I have sat in front of since grade school......you tube here I come!! I look forward to my next annual visit. Opticians: Then the third stage is to get fitted for new frames and lenses. Natalia was amazing! Very personable, even listened to a story or two from me! (No really, me? A story? :-) ). It made my afternoon less stressful as she helped me pick out a slightly different frame and explained all I needed to know about the durability of the frame and what I needed to address on my lenses.... The fornt desk has a bunch of folks who ar rude and arorgant. on th eopticinas sid eof the house, its even worse. the customer service skills get a Fail rating. the ability to deliver glasses on time is suspect and the prices on designer has been marked up even more. Nice, clean facility. Most recently I saw Dr. Chu and assistant Sylvia, who were friendly, competent, patient, and had a good sense of humor. The front desk was efficient, helpful, and friendly. All my questions were answered, and I felt the tests and procedures were thorough and complete. I feel well taken care of with them. I gave this place a 4 instead of a 5 because their glasses area offers absolutely NO plain/cheaper frames and lenses. Last year I ended up paying several hundred dollars, even when they used my existing frames. I don't expect them to subsidize designer or high-end frames, but I do think they should offer low-end frames that are simple and hardy, even if only a few, so those of us no longer working can get a pair of simple/non-complicated/not progressive etc. glasses there. read more

The worst ever! They try to make you agree to paying for extra specialized eye exam services before even seeing the doctor. The front desk person acted quite frustrated and unprofessional when I refused to sign the documents about receiving the extra eye exam services as each one was around $100+ because I could not understand the terminology of the exam since I am not a doctor. I had to choose to either accept or decline the exams. If accepted, I had to pay for them before seeing the doctor. How am I suppose to know weather or not I need the exams? I stopped by Silicon Valley Eye Physicians today in the hopes of having my sunglasses repaired. When I entered I was told someone would help me as soon as possible. I only waited about 2 minutes when the lovely Maricar (Eyewear Specialist) called my name. She couldn't have been more helpful and friendly, she fixed my glasses and I was on my way within a few minutes. I highly recommend Silicon Valley Eye Physicians and particularly Maricar. So I've been going to SV Eye Physicians for over a decade. For the most part, the optometrists are pretty good. I've been satisfied- they are friendly, helpful, and competent. Yes, sometimes they are in a rush. Yes, sometimes there is a student. Yes, sometimes they have limited appointments available. I will agree that they are a business and very financially focused. Their billing department has made mistakes in the past. I always got the impression that they would be to upsell stuff like laser eye surgery, since they would ask about it every year. If you have actual eye problems, you should go to an ophthalmologist. I made the mistake here of getting my visual field exam here my first time. Big mistake- go to a hospital clinic for the latest technology in health care. And though they claimed to have sent the records to my medical doctor several times, he never received it. Of course, they still billed me for their faulty apparatus and exam that had to be repeated, but that's in the past. I'm writing this review today about my experience in the optical store. They are hit or miss. There are people who are seasoned and very good at what they do. They have people that have no idea how to make basic eyeglasses adjustments. Today, I went in for an adjustment, and the person (Erin Russell) who helped me seemed alright-- until I asked for additional records or my previous glasses purchase. I brought out a copy of what I was looking for. Immediately, her color and demeanor changed, and she became huffy and demanded that I return them all to her, because the person that gave them to me in the past made a mistake. In good faith, I gave her my records and asked her to white out the information I wasn't supposed to see (vendor related, I didn't care about it anyway). She basically destroyed my property, cut it up, and returned a small part of sheet. She then started asking me stuff like, "What's so important that you want to see anyway?" As if I'm some sort of CIA operative.. Uh, it's a good summary of the information about my glasses (Rx, lens, frame, pricing). Their billing and receipts is a headache to go through line by line, and this was my personal medical and financial record that I like to keep paper copies of in my binder. She started claiming that it was a HIPAA violation, and I responded that I'm a physician and this is not a HIPAA violation, so either she was lying or needs more education as to what an actual HIPAA violation is. The question for them should be, "What's so secretive on the information sheet that you don't want me to have it?" I wonder if it's the billing and how much money they make, which to me, the money is gone, so I don't care about that. Whatever it is, it was worth destroying my records and personal property (which I've had for many years) and making me cry. The aggressive tone and manner in which she spoke to me was appalling and unacceptable. I have have never spoken to a patient, family member, doctor, nurse, tech, orderly, environmental services, or any other person in the way that she spoke to me. She needs some serious training in customer service. I do want to point that there was another lady who was working who tried to help and did the best she could (brought me water, spoke to me in a kind and patient manner), so props to her. Teaching point: You can say, "We're so sorry. We can't give you that record. Could we please white out the information that we agreed upon?" Instead, Erin took my personal property and destroyed it. How would you like it if I took a pair of scissors and started cutting up your personal items without your consent? The overall experience was hostile, invasive, and very unprofessional. read more

This is hands-down the worst company I've ever dealt with. They charged me a $75 no-show fee, even though I wasn't a no-show--I was just 10 minutes late. When I called to pay the fee and sort it out, the billing representative was unbelievably rude. She hung up on me mid-conversation, claiming I called the company 'a piece of s***.' For the record, I didn't--I said it was 'a piece of junk,' which isn't even a curse word. When I called back, she ignored my calls at first, forcing me to go through the main line to reach her. Instead of apologizing, she doubled down, accused me of being rude, and insisted I'd used profanity, which I absolutely did not. Her attitude was beyond unprofessional--she was outright hostile. This review is for their office staff and logistics, NOT their optometrist. I went to Silicon Valley Eye Physicians a couple of years ago. The office was nice overall, the my experience with the eye exam was pleasant overall. I went during COVID, so I appreciated their system of waiting outside and then coming in when it was my turn. I do remember not being able to easily get the results of my eye exam. I feel like this was probably to lock me into purchasing glasses with them, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Fast forward... their operations and office staff are lacking big time. ENDLESS EMAILS AND TEXT MESSAGES about appointments, buying glasses, etc. Fine, I get I probably signed some small print that indicated I agree to getting blasted with emails, messages, and automatic appointments. HOWEVER, after I opt out multiple times and call your office, you should probably stop. It got so bad, I called their office and asked to be removed from emails and automatic appointments. They tried to scare me saying the only way was to fully delete my account and patient profile. If fully deleting patient accounts is the only way for you to stop automatically scheduling appointments, you have some terrible software (no offense). I said yes / fine to completely deleting my account, and yet, I still get communications from them. I'm not sure what I need to do here to make them get their act together. If you choose to come here, come at your own risk. I'm going to head to Mountain View Optometry. My wife and kids went there and had a fantastic experience (even larger office, much larger / better frame selection). read more

I was recently having some concerning visual disturbances. They were able to schedule me on the same day fortunately as a new patient. I had a thorough exam and fortunately the diagnosis was a common age-related issue. From my experiences with other optometrists and ophthalmologists they had very modern equipment and a well-run office. Also, my impression was that their frames store was larger than most I have seen, although I did not use those services. I finally decided I was tired of blurred vision and scheduled an appointment with Dr. Lau. I had to do some research first to ensure that he was able to assist me since I have keratoconus. I came in with limited expectations and walked out blown away!!! The office is close to home, clean, fresh and modern looking and the staff was super friendly. Dr. Lau gave detailed explanations and discussed all of my options with me. He didn't pressure me or rush anything. He did the opposite in fact. Great treatment by their eye physicians - especically Dr. Wu & Dr.Mendleson, who have seen me for years, as they expertly guide me through the process of early detection of macular degeneration & stigmatisms (I'm an aging patient). But in all fairness, here's my recent experiences: I have twice been texted on very short notice, by their clinic, that my appointment has been cancelled, and to call & re-schedule. That's inconsiderate of patients like me, who schedule their appointments months in advance - and due to workplace obligations, have a tight window of flexibility for scheduling. The doctors in the clinic are good, but the "sales" people are ruining this business. Last Oct my son had an annual exam (it was very thorough, can not complain) and was recommended myopia control with atropine. The cost was $625. I said ok, but i would prefer to start in Jan, when my flex account is funded again. Called them this Jan and they said i have to pay extra $180 for the first visit (on top of $625) to do more comprehensive exam to establish the baseline, even back in Oct they had enough data to start the program.. Well, i thought it was not completely unreasonable, but decided to ask more questions. What extras you're planning to do, compared to the Oct visit? What $625 are covering exactly in this case? The answers were not very convincing.. $625 is to initiate the course + 2 follow ups during the year. If you need extra visits it would be $413 per visit. You pay for the medicine separately. They also hinted that the 2nd follow up will be at the time of our annual check next Oct, to save us some time. This was their exact answer: """ 1st appointment 1/10- Includes a multitude of specialized myopia testing required to start using the atropine. The $180 covers the cost of this visit. In addition to the myopic evaluation, Dr. Wu will be dilating and doing a prescription check which is not typically included. 2nd appointment- to see how the atropine is working, assess any possible side effects, and perform specialized myopia control testing to monitor progression. 3rd appointment- Same as above. However, instead of having you come in for this as well as a separate visit for Richard's annual eye exam which would be due around the same time, we try to make it easier for you by combining them into one visit. Your vision insurance will cover the routine eye exam, but will not cover the specialized testing and assessments done for monitoring myopia control that we do in addition to that covered exam. I started shopping around and first few clinics i called offered lower pricing in one way or another. I ended up paying way less than Silicon Valley Eye Physicians had requested. My interaction was with Taylor H. I'm not sure what her exact responsibilities are. Her title is "Certified Contact Lens Examiner", but she didn't sound to me like a very knowledgeable person or just expected that an average customer is dumb enough to question her answers. Bad outcome either way. No idea what motivates this behavior. It seems like Dr. Mark, other doctors and assistants are really decent people, but the admin part is pretty questionable. I would suggest Dr. Mark to review this part of the business and get rid of the people who deter long term clients. read more

The establishment itself is very nice, and our doctor was great. However, if you have a child with different needs, please go elsewhere. While doing the initial intake, I informed the front desk associate that my son is on the spectrum. She kind of grimaced and said "we will do our best... he doesn't know his letters?" Since when does being on the spectrum mean that one doesn't know his or her letters? My child, who is eight years old, has known his letters since he was one. She then said "as long as he's on the lighter side of the spectrum, we can see him". Given the fact that she worked behind the desk, with no medical experience from what I would assume, I thought this was a very provincial and discriminatory statement. Despite all of this, the tech and the doctor both were outstanding and did amazingly well with my son. I admit I miss the coziness of the previous Santa Clara location but I just LOVE all the modern equipment at this location. You'll love Maricar who runs the eyewear department too. I found this practice when my previous doctor no longer took my insurance. My mom had been a patient with a different doctor and she always seemed pleased. I was first greeted by a very friendly front desk who assisted me through the paperwork. Then, Paul came and pleasantly and patiently ran a series of procedures. (Only one was familiar from my previous doctor.). Right after he finished, Dr. Johnson came in the room. Her positive energy, patience as I tried to determine clarity and read the chart, and professionalism, made the experience pleasant. She listened to my concerns and answered any questions. She then passed me to Sabrina who helped me find the right glasses, giving me a variety to choose from, but limiting the options so to not overwhelm me. My review is specific to the studio Optix department. I've been seeing them for over 10 years and I've always had a great experience with them. The lab did mess up my last set of glasses twice but Leslie, who has been the one helping me recently, has been extremely helpful on getting everything sorted out for me. Thankfully this has only happened once in the past 10 years. Leslie has provided top-notch customer service and is always helpful and friendly when answering my questions. Silicon Valley Eye Physicians is the most comprehensive eye care clinic I have found yet here in the Bay Area. They have a different range of doctors that specialize in different areas. The facility is very clean and spacious. Jessica at the front desk is absolutely amazing. She is so friendly and takes great care of patients. Unfortunately, due to a health concern, my doctor referred me to an ophthalmologist. I called to ask how I can get a copy of my records over to my ophthalmologist. Jessica understood that their portal functionality is very limited right now and allows only one family member per email account, so she offered to email me my records. She left a vm, asking me to confirm my email address. I called back, saying it's ok, I'll be in in a couple of weeks anyways and I'll just provide it then. To my amazement, when I walked in today for my appointment, Jessica already had my records all prepared for me! My appointment took much longer than the one hour I was told, so I needed to dash off to another appointment right after. I didn't have time to go home to put my eyeglasses in their case, so I asked Jessica if she has a paper box or something so I don't accidentally break the only pair of glasses I have. She was so kind and found a box for me! Dr. Johnson is very good with little kids. I like how she errs on the conservative side when it comes to eyeglass prescription, so young children's developing eyes aren't immediately fixed at a higher optic correction. They also have opticians there that can prescribe atropine drops if needed, so you don't need to go to a separate clinic for that. Dr. Wu is great at fitting contact lenses. He was able to improve upon the prior doctor's prescription, and his contacts prescription offered me much better vision. The optics department is also staffed with great people. Heather and Marica are absolutely wonderful to work with. I went in last summer and purchased half a dozen eyewear for the entire family. The initial order had some mistakes. Heather stepped in and made sure everything was corrected and we got exactly what we ordered. Marica is so sweet and patient. I had problems with the eyeglasses I got from them and was explaining to her how another pair I got from overseas fit much better, but the lenses are wrong. She took the time to help me figure out the problem, and did some research to verify that they do have the ability to re-create my favorite lenses here for me as well. This is one of the worst place to come. The physician did a eye test and charged the insurance without any particular issue. Ordering and getting the glasses is the most painful 1. Very very costly place 2. They will put charges without knowing that they are on the higher side Pickup 1. It's extremely slow. They have so so many people working but when I went to pickup no one came and helped. I had to wait 30 minutes even though people were talking inside. 2. They sms that glasses are ready but even then they messaged that it will take 15 minutes to pack. Please avoid this place and it's very frustrating. read more

Lucky for me, I chose Silicon Valley Eye Physicians and met Dr. Vu and Rachel. They were amazing and wonderful both in their demeanor as well as the treatment. They were detail oriented and adjusted the procedure to make sure I was as comfortable as possible. They also showed tremendous patience to help me understand everything that was going on in my treatment and the effects as well. I completed my treatment and went back to Kaiser but recently went back to Silicon Valley Eye Physicians to buy a pair of glasses I wanted. I ran into Dr. Wu and Rachel and I was amazed at the attention they showed to me. They took the time to check on my progress and well being. They just wanted to know how I was doing. Been coming here for about 10+ years and I always liked my experience pre-covid, but post-covid I have not had such great experiences. Dr. Wu is my current doctor and is amazing--very informative, friendly, and thorough. I do find that the prices for contacts/glasses are a bit on the high side, and they won't release my contact prescription to me so I can go elsewhere. A fitting session I can understand, but they insist I have an expensive training session for contacts, but I've worn contacts for over 10 years and don't feel like I need it. I'm writing this review though because of an experience I just had. I was going in for a consultation, and the nurse or assistant took a general eye exam at the end. I was asked to read a snellen chart as usual, and I preemptively told the nurse I wasn't seeing very well these days. So I started the test and tried my best to read the lines, and typically if I fumble or get a letter/number wrong the nurse will get the jist of it and adjust the line for me to try again. This nurse, however, very aggressively said "NO" when I made a mistake. I was confused, and tried to read the line again, to which she continued to just say, "NO". I don't even know which letter I messed up on! She eventually, almost condescendingly, said, "You can't see it?" To which I replied I can't, and she went to a different line. This line was also a bit blurry, but I tried to read it again. I think I started with the letter 'F', to which she replied, "It doesn't start with F" (it was a similar letter like P). I have never experienced this before when taking an eye exam. I eventually just didn't try to read the lines anymore and continued to say I can't see to avoid making another mistake. The nurse was just general not very friendly and seemed a bit confused. I think I will only be coming to see Dr. Wu, and will use another clinic for additional needs I might have. read more

This review is in specific regard to the Studio Optix shop connected to Silicon Valley Eye Physicians at the Fremont Avenue, Sunnyvale location. I moved to Santa Cruz County 11 years ago and tried three different eye doctors and their attached eye wear shops on this side of the hill. Ultimately, I returned to Silicon Valley Eye Physicians and Studio Optix. My willingness to drive over the hill for my appointments and glasses says a lot about them; however, a recent experience has also taught me to be choosy in terms of who helps me at Studio Optix. I ordered a new pair of glasses at Studio Optix and, after picking them up and having them adjusted, I had to return three more times because they continued to slip down my nose and hurt behind my ears. When I returned those three times after the initial pick up, the same young man helped me. He never looked behind my ears to see how the glasses fit (or to see the bright red marks where they were pinching). He never felt the glasses around my ears to get a sense of how they were fitting. He never touched the glasses to see how loosely they were fitting on my face. He simply had me take the glasses off, took them in the back, did something to them (I assume), returned them to me to put on, and asked, "How do they feel?" The fact was that the area behind my ears was already so painful that I could not tell if these adjustments had helped. All I could do was wear them and see what happened. Unfortunately, I had to keep coming back with the same complaints: significant pain behind my ears and slipping. Having worn glasses since I was four years old, I found it odd that, every time I came in, this young man never touched the glasses while they were on me, didn't look behind my ears, and didn't do anything to make sure the progressive lenses were sitting on my nose properly after adjusting them. After my fourth visit, he said if this adjustment didn't work, he would have me choose new frames and he would order me another new pair of glasses. This seemed, to me, a very expensive solution when he had yet to try any hands-on examination of the fit of the current pair in order to guide the adjustments he was making. When I came in a fifth time, still in pain, luckily D'Avonny Moran was on duty and helped me. She looked behind my ears and immediately saw how red my skin was (meaning she could see WHERE the point of contact was that was causing the pain). She saw the slippage and felt how the glasses were fitting on my face, as well as noticed red grooves the glasses were leaving on my nose. She explained the adjustments she wanted to make, explained why she thought they might help, and (again) actually touched me after I put the adjusted glasses back on, so she could see how they fit. Finally, after five adjustments, I could wear my new glasses! I asked D'Avonny if she had a card, because if I needed any more adjustments, I wanted to be sure to come in when she was there. It turned out that the work D'Avonny did fixed 90% of the problem, but I still had a little bit of discomfort. I emailed her, she responded promptly with her schedule, and we arranged for me to come in on a specific day. D'Avonny, once again, did some hands-on inspection of the fit, asked me specific questions, and made two small adjustments. She was friendly, concerned, helpful, and hands on. It seems that the individuals working at Studio Optix have different levels of training and skill. D'Avonny demonstrated extraordinary concern, care, and skill. I have, generally, had good experiences at Silicon Valley Eye Physicians and Studio Optix, but my best advice is don't hesitate to ask for or wait for someone else if an experience has been less than ideal.
