I had a serious account security incident with Spectrum Business, and the way it was handled was extremely disappointing. My account experienced unauthorized changes including call forwarding and voicemail alterations, yet there was no clear explanation of how the breach occurred, how long access existed, or what information may have been exposed. What's most concerning is the lack of transparency and urgency. Instead of working collaboratively to investigate and contain the issue, Spectrum ultimately closed the case claiming no fault, while refusing to provide critical records (such as call logs) unless requested through legal channels. These are records that should be readily accessible to the account holder--especially during a security incident. This created unnecessary business disruption and forced me to take independent action, including filing reports with law enforcement and regulatory agencies. For a business service provider, this level of support during a potential breach is unacceptable. I would strongly caution other businesses to evaluate whether this level of risk and response aligns with their needs. read more

I literally created a Yelp account to leave a review for this spectrum location. After raising our price intermittently with no warning year after year, sometimes on a random month, it would just raise our price. I called multiple times asking why our price was so high and they never gave us an answer. They just said it was the lowest price they could offer. Finally, I had enough we switched to verizon and when I called to cancel, they said that that we were paying way more than we needed to and they could give us a lower price. I have never been so furious. Then we tried to give them back their equipment and they had us wait 45 minutes just to sign a receipt. 45 minutes!! It was absolutely insane. Once we eventually got to the front of the line our visit was approximately 8 minutes long - which is great, but after 4 1/2 hours it kind of aggravated me. We arrived to pick up equipment the only available rep has been helping same single customer for 20 min since then the line of customers has gone from 4 to 9 with literally not a single costumer service being completed. We are 4 in line and will likely wait 90 min to pick boxes. I asked customer service days ago if I could contact store they told me no just walk in! Follow-up Note: Well we got lucky, after the 30 min for one walk in patron the three people in line in front of us gave up and left so we went next. They did not have a coax cable usually provided with modem and they had no written directions for installation (we were installing without cell phone or landline service. I would like to emphasize this is NOT the fault of the individuals working the counters. The poor service is the failure of leadership at many levels. 1. understaffed - 2 employees for all walk-ins and reservations; 2. Call centers are not informed about the reservation system; 3. No floor manager to trouble shoot or address surges in walk ins; no retail phone service. Ironically Spectrum doesnt have any way for you to call the store. I was a loyal customer of Spectrum internet for 4 and a half years despite very poor service. Multiple times during that timeframe, my modem simply stopped working and it was an incredible inconvenience. It crapped out two weeks before I had to move to an apartment that came with internet. I'd already paid for those last two weeks but decided to forfeit and just return the equipment and close out my account, losing two weeks already of service paid for. I went to the South Portland store, returned all equipment, paid off all fees associated with my account and confirmed with an associate, received receipt of closed account t and all was well. Then six months later they start calling me daily for weeks from "Charter Communications," leaving me voicemails about a balance on my account. I finally call them back because I am tired of being harassed, and an associate explains to me that I owe them a "convenience fee." Not true. In actuality, they owe me a convenience fee and I will be reporting them to the police if they keep bothering me. I've also reported this to the Better Business Bureau. read more

Once we were at the front of the line we were told there was too much equipment to return and we would have to go to a ups store to return. I have no idea what motivates the ground floor workers, frankly I don't care because even typing this review is the absolute minimum effort I'm willing to devote any more to my being a customer, it's a circus of dookie. Appointments are late, service is spotty, and they throw absolutely every tangle and trick in your way to stop you from canceling. I've done it twice, once with my uncle and once on behalf of my parents. The return of equipment has to be done in a very specific way, and they count it as returned at the latest possible second. If you want to cancel, you need to be put on hold for 40 minutes in store or on the phone, take your pick. In the case of my parents' service, it had to be in store because my dad had died and they wanted a paper copy of his death certificate. That is such incredibly cruel scumbaggery that it made my stomach turn. Leave these guys in your rear view mirror. read more

Pricing went up twice within 6 months. The tech that installed their modem took my personal modem with him and it took 5 calls and almost 2 weeks to get it back. I go to cancel basic internet service ($94/mo) because I now have mobile hotspot included in my $20/mo unlimited phone plan with Visible, and they lied that they could offer me a free phone plan and still keep my internet for $19.99/mo. I asked how can they drop the price so much and why didn't they reach out and say they could offer a lower price and they said there's ads all over for that deal (??). Then they said it would actually be $50/mo for internet and phone, not $19.99. I had canceled once before in the middle of the month years ago (when internet was only $45/mo) and they refunded me for the two weeks I didn't use their service. I asked for the same refund since I'm only 2 weeks into this month's billing cycle and they said that was never a thing.. Never again, avoid Spectrum like the plague. read more

I visited Spectrum to explore purchasing a basic, new iPhone. At a previous store, the price did not include a trade in option and the cost to transfer the data from my current cell phone was going to cost almost $100. Josh was assigned to me. Throughout, he was pleasant, welcoming and very, very helpful. The iPhone I was interested in was for sale at Spectrum. I had many questions, which Josh answered with great kindness and patience. He also offered information which enabled me to more fully comprehend the features of the phone. This particularly helped to choose the ID access that would be best for me. I was greatly pleased to learn the trade in option would save me $105. toward the iPhone and that there was no charge to transfer the data to the new phone. Josh was so enjoyable to work with. The last time being December 26th. Was now told it won't be hooked up until January 25th of 2024. You would think I lived way out in the middle of nowhere however, I reside right next to the town hall. I've been with Spectrum for 6 years and I was trying to switch to my phone company for internet services. I called on the 9th of January and was told I would get a refund for that month $86. January 11th I called customer service asking when I should bring the router back and where. They told me in 15 days time bring to Auburn Maine store and this customer service assistant assured me i would get my full $86 refund. when the 16th of January came around. I unplugged the router and dropped it off at the Auburn Maine store on the 16th of January believing if I dropped it off in 15 days time after speaking to a Spectrum rep I would get my refund. 21st of January I did not get a refund at all. I waited thinking maybe because it's a weekend. Well today 23rd January I called and spoke to someone who told me they will NOT be giving me a refund because I canceled services after or during the billing month start. I am EXTREMELY upset because $86 goes to a company that clearly ripped me and my family off. That's money I could have used to feed me and my baby girl!!!! I walked in for a simple exchange from a dual box router, wifi to a single combo box. I called ahead on the 800#(25 mins waiting time), and they made a note on my account prior to my arrival. I waited outside for 10 mins due to COVID rules and was seen within 15 mins once inside. The agent was courteous and quick, and I left with the combo box in less than 10 mins. The box was functional and I was surfing within 10 mins. I only have Spectrum internet, so it wasn't too complicated. As far as Spectrum internet connection experience, I find them lacking. I have lived in 2 locations within Portland, and I notice throttling and/or connection drops are very common. The patterns appear to be similar, so I'm guessing it is an intentional upstream behavior. I know COVID has put a strain on there datalink, but this pattern had occurred before COVID. read more

I wish that I could give zero stars. I have used Spectrum as my Internet provider since 2008. The sheer number of mistakes, instances of poor service and incompetence, in addition to their exorbitant charges, would overwhelm this website. I once had interruptions in service every five minutes for months on end. Eight different technicians came out over a period of four months, to no avail. In the end, my landlord, a registered nurse, solved the problem: an emergency services antenna within sight of my house. Once I told Spectrum's technicians about this, they fixed it. I felt quite proud of myself for telling them how to do their job. Lately, I have been kept on the phone for 45 minutes setting up a government-sponsored discount and told that I was all set, only to have a different rep tell me six weeks later that I had to reapply, (!), that the first rep had given me inaccurate information. When I asked a supervisor what Spectrum would do for me for my aggravation, they offered me a $20 credit on my next bill, which I consider insulting. Finally, I returned three pieces of equipment from my old address in December, only to have Spectrum drop the ball and have no record of this, continuing to demand over $300 for that equipment. I have spoken with three different reps about that issue and they still have not resolved it after nearly three months. They also continue to charge me for a cable box that I returned over five years ago: I have not had Spectrum cable for seven years. If I had any alternative, I would use a different provider. If you have an alternative, dear Reader, you must take it and avoid Spectrum. read more

This store was a complete waste of time and money! The one they had on Congress st by the airport was much faster with customer service, MUCH faster! The problem is they combined the customer service cell phone with the cable and it has SLOWED down things to about 10 minutes to each customer and if you are number 10 you can expect about a 90 minute wait. Those of us with cable, internet, or landline phone have to wait because of their new stupid cell service. They need to SEPARATE those in to two different lines and hire more representatives! read more

TLDR; I moved and returned equipment, spectrum doesn't have a way of calling into stores and doesn't save return receipts to accounts or email them out. I have never seen such incompetence in a company. I have been trying to get an "unreturned" equipment charge resolved since June of this year. I moved from Maine to Kansas in June and had a relative return the equipment the day after the move. I have confirmed that the equipment was returned with my relative several times, and I have also had verbal confirmation of the returned equipment from several spectrum call center representatives. I am now paying the $59 because the charge has gone to a collection agency and I have no way of obtaining the receipt to "prove" that I returned the equipment. No email was sent to me when the equipment was returned with a receipt for the equipment. I can't believe that a company can be so dysfunctional when it is a nationally recognized corporation. Spectrum you really need to fix your systems, might I suggest using salesforce? Maybe hire on some better IT employees to make it do documents associated with an account are linked to the account. It really isn't a hard process in 2020. Do better, this is 2020. read more

After talking to spectrum about the loss of their cheap cable box and wifi router they were informed they that they were fully responsible for all cost of the lost equipment. This is probably the worst customer service ANY business has ever provided. Upon entering the store you are confronted with a computer screen on which you are asked to type your name and reason for your visit. Then you wait. And wait, and wait. There are 6 help desks where customers are called to when it's their turn. But during the 90 minutes I waited to exchange a non working Spectrum modem there were NEVER more than 2 help desks manned. And this is for a line of customers of up to 30 people. Many gave up and left, thankfully. Otherwise my 90 minute wait probably would have been 3 hours or more. No wonder I witnessed so many customers returning their Spectrum equipment. Avoid this place at all costs, and Spectrum altogether if you live in an area where other Internet/TV providers exist. read more

This is strictly a review on the internet service in the City of Portland. I have lived at 2 locations in Portland over the course of a year and a half - first on the East End and then the West End. The Spectrum Internet service is crap in both locations. I spend almost an equal amount of time using my mobile hotspot, as I do the Spectrum connection. It goes down so many times or throttles the connection to "Turtle" mode. I talk to others, and I get the Maine shoulder shrug. You really are better off just going with unlimited wireless. It's more reliable and expanding 5G services. Spend some money and improve your hardware, Spectrum!!!! read more

We bought a new phone from the South Portland, ME store, and the sales rep forgot to add our old phone to the order as a trade in. when I didn't receive an email with instructions for mailing in the trade-in. I got nowhere with a call to the customer service hotline so I returned to the Spectrum store. The sales rep had no idea what to do but offered to make a call while I was there to the same number I'd already called. After being sent to several different departments with each saying they'd sent an email with the instructions, I was told that the phone had never been added to the order, but the guy had no idea how to fix it. The store rep said she couldn't help either, but if I could point out the rep who sold us the phone maybe they could help. An hour later I gave up and left the store after the rep told me that I'd be better off selling the old phone online anyway! read more

We pay $256.00 per month only to have the channels become "unavailable" on a regular basis. Then, when calling them to find out the reason for this unavailability, have a recording saying "Due to unforeseen circumstances, we are unable to handle your call at this moment." Like many others, I would give them zero stars, if available. I called to inquire about reducing services as my bill had climbed to 220 a month. I asked about eliminating phone service and reducing cable especially since I had already signed for Verizon to do my land phone as they were cheaper. After some discussion and the employee's inability to tell me and/or send me a TV guide of the program he was recommending, I said I didn't want anything changed and would go to the store where they could provide me with accurate information. Got my bill and went up 125.00 dollars. Called and was told I no longer have a phone and no more discounts. The employee had illegally altered my services and then was told they could switch me back because my old program doesn't exist. The best they could do was to rid me of my phone and "Stars" for an increase in my bill of 25 dollars to - 235.00. So less services and more money for their illegal actions. Spoke with the supervisor and was told the same thing but altered my plan to 178 plus taxes with fewer channels, no phone, and STARS. There was no negotiating - I was told she was trying and I "had to work with her." Even though it was nothing I did and/or approved. Am looking at the limited options at this point.
