I've been coming to him for probably 9 years and he's always super friendly, asks me about how I'm doing, and since getting to know him personally we talk about our personal lives because we're close. My cuts are always consistent because I tell him what I want and he talks with me about what I'm asking for. Obviously the vibes are 50s barbershop with chill music playing and regulars coming in to talk with their friends no longer their barbers. This has been a review that I have been meaning to write for a long time. I have one of those oh so special situations where I have wavy hair, meaning that it is waving goodbye. I know that I only have a few more years left of getting haircuts so it is Something that I am very particular about when it comes to who cuts my hair. Kevin, one of the owners, has been cutting my hair for years. I had met him at a previous shop. I had heard that he opened up his own place and went straight there. When it comes to price I have to say they are competitively priced with other shops in the area. If you are getting your hair cut based on price, but not on quality I would have to say you're playing a different game than me. When it comes to quality, they can't be beat. Whether I am sitting in Kevin's chair, or someone else who works there which I have, I know that I am going to get the same quality cut by anyone in the shop. I know that it is tradition for your barber to hand you the mirror so you an inspect your cut and make sure it is up to your specifications. This is one of those things I have never had to do here. I get what I pay for and still feel like I am getting a deal. I don't know if I would call it a family business, but it feels like it when you are in there. This is something that you don't see now in very many businesses. The touch of community is lost. This is a neighborhood shop and you won't be disappointed walking out of there. I had a vision of how I wanted it to look and not only did she deliver but she helped keep my hair healthy at the same time (she color corrected and fixed my color from a previous botched job from another salon). At a great price and great cuts don't be shy to tip Kevin and his guys above your normal amount. I've been here 3 times and have not walk away mad, i even don't have too much lose hair (good clean up). You want to make an appointment but walk-ins are welcome. What a waste....... Was back in town for xmas and needed a haircut and beard trim. Called to check if they could accommodate a walk-in and said they could take me right away. Wrong. Sat for an hour and 40 minutes for a seat. I understand appointments come first so whatever. My barber John seemed cool enough. Got my cut, beard was trimmed, paid my tab and left. Was in a hurry so I did not scrutinize my head or chin. Once I got home I realized what I had paid for. The hair was ok, not terrible but not great. The beard though........MOTHER OF GOD! Uneven (right side is 1/4 in longer then left) and he left a landing strip under my chin! My schedules busy and we are leaving LA to go home so I was unable to go into the shop again but be warned. I've known this shop since it's beginning. I, a pixie haired woman, came into this shop looking for a touch up in between cuts from my stylist in Brea. Kevin, the owner, hopped on the opportunity to cut my hair. He was once an educator in the field and it showed. I've gotten to witness a lot of barbers work here and the quality is top notch. Long over due! We love this place and have been coming for 2 years now. My 4 year old gets his haircut with John & Kevin, they keep him distracted and comfortable. I walked in because Tip Top was super busy. The service was $34, which I thought was pretty hefty, but I was in a hurry, so I agreed. The gentleman had a soft, insecure hand so right away I knew it wasn't going to go well. He cut off about half of my beard by swiping the machine. If I'm being charged $34, I would think it's getting shaped. He blended it instead of angling it. I'll stop there with complaining about his lack of experience. When it was time to pay, I handed him $40 and he asks me if I need change. Of course I do. I work on tips too, and you never suggest if you can keep the tip. When I said, "yes" politely, he says "we actually don't have change right now." At this point I was done and let him keep the tip, but you'll never see me here again The place was cool, they played good music and the other dudes seemed awesome. This guy majorly fucked it up for me, though. I didn't get his name, but he had the first chair, short guy, huge nose piercing and long hair. Wore shades. Expensive, badly cut, and entitled. I really wanted to shoot a 5 star review because I have been a customer of Kevin for awhile but after today I'm just pissed. I would never complain about there being a line, or a wait for a good haircut this is to be expected, I'm always a generous tipper because I know it takes effort and time for my cuts. I walked in today to see Kevin, which he said he was done for the day, so I decided to wait for Danny who said he would help me once he was done with the people before me (also a skilled barber who I refer my friends too) I waited for an hour and a half as he and fellow barbers took their customers, than after an hour an older gentleman walks in, ask for Kevin, they say he's done, he says he's going to take him after all. So no biggie, whatever, I just need a cut at this point... than when it's finally my turn another guy walks in, sits for five min, and Danny takes him prior to me? Was never told there was appointments prior to me waiting there while everyone takes there sweet time and I was not about to wait another hour while they continue to constantly talk non-stop and spread out the time and be up-charged for going beyond business hours since my cuts usually take an hour. Went in for a cut today and I get it its busy the day before a holiday, ask for a side cut mid fade and it's not what I got!! A mid fade doesn't go all the way to the curve of your head! Even worse the side where I part got faded in making it look like those regeton douchebag side parts on one side the fade is way higher than the other and on the other side the line isn't even faded! I tried to get it fixed by another barber and was told the fade would have to go higher or just shave it and let it grow back! read more
