Now THIS is an awesome experience! Took my wife for her birthday ! She loves different adventures and occasionally something speed. We got a boat for 2 . Had a clear safety instruction by our guide and operational instructions. Then off we went. Total of 3 boats in our group. An amazing day in terms of weather. Didn't matter that it was hot because being on the water and the speed made everything absolutely perfect! Great views, awesome 90 minutes of my wife having a blast driving the boat at least at 3/4 throttle or better! Hitting some fun wakes and thrilling turns. She rates as her 2nd best birthday gift ever! (Her number one was a trip to Rome). If you go, don't worry! Absolutely safe! Follow your guide and they help you then the minimal boat traffic. We went from Passé a Grill to Skyway Bridge and back and never retraced our route. Don't think about it! Just do it! (BTW it is safe to take cell phone camera with you. We weren't sure and didn't. This company is a damn joke! Who contacts a customer less than 12 hours before their reservation saying they don't have boats for your prepaid scheduled time. Then they want to see if a later time will work. When I said no I'd rather have my money back the goon that text me who never disclosed their name said I never said I was cancelling your reservation. Uhm wtf are you talking about you just said you didn't have boats!! Why would I randomly show up??! The fool is combative and rude for $200 plus yeah I don't think so. What an awesome time. The boat was clean and in good shape. Our guide, Dusty, was always aware of where everyone in the group was and even slowed down the other boats once so we could catchup. We had seen something in the water and slowed a little to take a look. If you want the rush of driving a speed boat, I highly recommend this tour. This was an amazing tour that my wife and I took. I am usually not interested in guided tours I like to go my own way usually. If you do not get to drive a boat around much this was a thrill. Our guide Dustin was very friendly and knew the area well. My wife and I were allowed to switch drivers along the way in the two seat rental and it was a blast for use, just make sure you keep an eye on her if she has never driven a watercraft haha. Holy Guacamole, Batman, what a great way to spend an afternoon! My wife booked a trip for my 40th birthday, officially setting the record for greatest wife, ever! Captain Chris and his wife, Lisa, set everything up, familiarized us with our boat and we set off. First things first, Speedboat Adventures is superior to other boat tours because you are provided with a boat to pilot yourself. The Captain/guide is in a lead boat and communicates (guidance, narration, trivia, etc.) via radio. So, for nearly 2 hours, I was allowed to pilot a speedboat around the waters of Boca Ciega Bay, much of it "on plane" at high speed (35-40 mph). I can't fully describe how awesome this is for someone who grew up in a landlocked state. My wife and I are already making plans to go again. read more

This is one of the most fun things I have done in a while! We live in Tampa, but wanted to do something a little "touristy". Found reviews for this place online and had a friend tell me how much fun she had with her boyfriend... So.... of course when I saw a groupon I bought it up in a heartbeat! AMAZBALLS! The safety brief was thorough and he was really nice. The boats were small and the one we had was was fast enough but some of the boats vary in speed. The boat was easy to maneuver and during the ride we stopped and Captain Scott gave us some cool info about the area. They give you a chance to switch drivers which was cool. I didnt bring my phone for fear of it getting wet but honestly you can as long as you kinda keep it low because you will get splashed! I would totally do it again! If you are a facebook friend of mine, you'll know that I have maybe 50 pictures and 30 videos to document this amazing adventure! A friend of mine from India was visiting Tampa on his way to LA and only had a day or two to spare. I was going to take him jet skiing but we had scheduling conflicts. Literally between Google and Visit St Pete, I came across these guys. I booked our 2 hr trip easily and the next day we headed towards Tierra Verde. The reviews were right, these guys were just operating out of a van. But who needs a huge, fancy office/store, when its the experience of operating a speed boat and their personalities that make this adventure amazing. They briefed us really well on safety and maneuvering the boat was simple. Captain Scott took us out and within our two hours we saw creepy Spanish dancers (water slugs) and dolphins and had an amazing time with Scott out on the water. My friend was blown away. It was safe and exciting and neither of us have any boating experience at all. Definitely doing this a thousand times again... maybe I should recommend a frequent customer punch card ;) read more

GO PLAY!!! Well done! We had a guided tour through the area bays by a licensed ship's Captain. He runs the front boat and the parties follow in their own speed boats. The Cap stays in constant contact with the other boats and accommodates all levels of ability with ease. He made sure the more experienced drivers had fun while encouraging the less experienced. Everyone was encouraged to expand their abilities, at their own pace. My wife and I had a BLAST! It was her 65th birthday weekend and, although it was a rocky ride that particular day, we will be coming back for more. read more

I called Speed Boat Adventures on short notice and they readily accomodated my group. We met them at a Marina in St. Pete. They gave us some short but relevant instruction and off we went. Awesome! The excursion lasted about 90 minutes on Tampa Bay and the intercoastal waterway of St. Pete. We hit some big waves and dodged boat traffic en route to memories that I will never forget. Do not take a pass on Speed Boat Adventures. If you are in the area and have the time book them. It's worth every penny!!! read more

wow. I cannot say enough about how much fun and a unique experience this was! If you are not aure if you should do this, definitely do it! Exhilarating and thrilling! Waters were a bit choppy due to boat traffic on Memorial Day weekend, but our tour captain made us aware of that and communicated what to do when we see bigger boats on the water (give them the right of way!). We were down from up north for vacation on Anna Maria Island. I booked my reservation three days in advance. When the day came, initially we wanted to reschedule for the day after, but we had our flight that day as well, so we thought, "let's just go. " We ended up getting there no problem. Directions were clear and the waiver was clear and to the point. Dustin was going to be our tour guide. However, on that particular day the water was very choppy and there were white caps everywhere. He explained that the people who went on their excursion before us were having difficulty keeping up with him. Dustin also explained that this is something he normally doesn't like to do and wanted us to know the real risks we were taking. We had the option to reschedule or go with Dustin on a sightseeing tour around island. We chose neither. I got in touch with Derek and asked him for a refund due to the fact that we had a flight to catch the next day. We totally would have rescheduled if we could have, but it was cutting it way to close. Derek had no problem giving me the refund due to these unforeseen circumstances. Wicked nice people. Professional. And fair. And I'm sure the excursion is so fun and we are bummed out we had to miss it, but it will be the first thing we do the next time we come down! The speedboat ride was less than 1-1/2 hours. Both the boat I was in and the boat my friend was in had problems - stalling in one - and difficult steering and taking on water in the other. These issues lessened the enjoyment of the "adventure". The guide asked for a 20% tip, which we found to be very tacky under the circumstances. read more

Easily the best part of my vacation in the Tampa/St petersburg/Clearwater area. This is one the best water based vacation rental activities Ive ever done. I was in town on a conference. I heard it was awesome from a friend. I checked the weather. Called them up on a thursday morning. Booked a time slot for the same day and Chris the owner was able to accommodate us on a private "tour". It can be if you're a family or group with old or young people but if you're just looking for a good time on the water cruising around on a speed boat miami vice style this is the place to do it. Captain Scott took us around for 2 hours and it was an insane experience. When I drove up to the place it was nothing more than a scooby doo van next to a marina. Don't judge a book by its cover. Chris and Scott know how to treat you with hospitality and I felt like I had known them my whole life. They are the most chill laid back dudes I have ever met operating a boat rental business. They're in the middle of a renovation of their office but don't be a tool and judge. The experience is what its all about. They know the water and they know how to ensure a good time. They aren't many reviews on yelp but they are #1 on TripAdvisor and have awards to prove it. They are reputable and worth every penny (an amazing deal if you actually do the math) Ill definitely be telling everyone about their setup. I went on a speed boat adventure with my Mom last weekend and it was so much fun. Firstly, the staff was great. We got lost on the way there and they waited for us to start the tour instead of leaving us behind. Once we actually got there, the staff spent time making us feel comfortable with the boats and the best way to take them out. It was a total blast. You get your own little two person speed boat and you follow the guide. He was funny and nice and made sure we had a great time. I'm looking forward to doing this again next time I'm in town! This was a fantastic tour, first of you get to drive your own speed boat which is awesome and then they give you a very in-depth tour of the Tierra Verda area and the bay that surrounds it. You spend an hour and a half on the water which sounds like a long time but it goes by all too fast. The staff is incredibly nice and friendly and gave a good tour.
