I cannot thank the staff and people at Spencer Recovery Laguna Beach, CA and thankful we chose this facility for my son. I truly believe this facility saved my sons life. I love the structure and the people. My son is a complete new person and believes that there is a better life being sober thanks to the people at Spencer's. The main house is clean, and nice. We attend family meeting every Sat,. as a family which is a great opportunity to understand sobriety and show support. There is a beach house across the street and patients can go to the beach once a day. My son loved this because it gave him a chance to have some normalcy while recovering. When I first admitted my son, I thought for sure that he would do his 28 days and return with struggles still. Thanks to the positive environment and love he has been shown , he chose to stay for another 30 days. Amazing turn around for my son and my family. I went to Spencer's Laguna Beach in 2013 and opted for "custom care" and stayed in the beach house. What an absolute joke of a rehab. Patients can work there with only 90 days sobriety! I went to whatever groups or meetings whenever I felt like it and no one cared. Instead we wandered town with complete freedom. People were using and drinking in the house. Med dispensing does not follow HIPPA. Chris Spencer was more concerned if clients were wearing forbidden baseball hats. Therapy was non existent and dual diagnosis was ignored. I could go on. A complete waste of money, which is all they care about! read more

The owner is far too old and sick to be running this business. He spends all day changing and messing things up. I would give no star if I could, I arrived at St Augustine, started sessions, group and after a week EMDR but one week into EMDR the facility closed, we were given an option to go to St Petersburg Beach and not two weeks into that the Hurricane hit and shut the place down. I lost my car and almost my life. in St Augustine Medication was prescribed to me for High blood pressure and other things put in my medical record that never applied. The blood pressure medication made me get denied for life insurance, no one has ever checked that I'm alive or have not committed suicide. They DO NOT CARE and only want money & free labor. Please do not go or send a loved one here. There are so many discarded because of their insurance and if you have great insurance, they bully you and take any action so you don't leave; as they have your luggage and belongings. I could hear "staff" aka junkies that were sober for 90 days, having sex with patients. Almost all staff were in recovery themselves because Spencer does not want to hire appropriate professionals. Sadly, people recovering that had no where to go unless they work there attempting duties they are not qualified for. The pictures shown are of a huge home on the beach that cost an outrageous amount. They do not post pictures of the run down dirty place you will go to, sharing a room with two others. This is having good ppo and paying at least 5,000 out of pocket for an alcohol detox. The most amusing is when Spencer will be visiting, everything changes and is all stage prepped including meetings and what to say, they organize the conf room , put up motivational versus, have patients clean up and make it as acceptable as it could be. Lol. It's sad. They claim they prepare healthy chef meals while, it's nasty slop. Taco Bell has better quality. It was a waste if money and mental health. First to Kimberly H who ironically had a picture about helping others up when they're down. - what an insensitive stuck up, repulsive person you are. Just because you had better treatment than other people doesn't give you the right to be like that. I went into the PTSD treatment which they are sure both my husband and I they are really good at providing, that it was a top notch PTSD treatment facility. I didn't have an addiction to treat & while I absolutely do not & will never look down on anyone who does, being forced to attend AA meetings at 7am to make yourselves seem like you're doing your best to help me was ridiculous to me & offensive to those who needed the assistance of AA. I got 3 hours of therapy per week & slept til 8pm every night because it was nothing else to do given that we were behind a cage in a concrete patio day in day out. They tried forcing me to do chores in exchange for cigarettes and I refused. I didn't go there to do chores while not getting help. I may as well have stayed home. I spent 43 days away from my family for absolutely nothing. My husband and I travel through from the owner to the sea urchin to the second in charge and down he kept lying and saying they would help me. They put me on Seroquel and gave me too much and when I started having heart palpitations I went to see the nurse he freaked out and kept saying I don't know what to do I don't know what to do so I'm not calling 911-1911 arrived to cover up her inadequate treatment she told them that I was drug addict and seeking drugs. Again, I was there for PTSD treatment only, I have no history of addiction. The judgment I got from 911 was evidence on their faces as they stopped believing me and started listening to her. I was put on ADHD medication which I needed to be put on except I never once met with the psychiatrist, nor had a call with her even after I had submitted multiple written requests to. The ONLY person who took care of me there was a young girl almost half my age who was there for alcoholism. She would make me get up & eat every day. We had a tiny patio area behind an iron fence we could smoke on or just hang around to socialize & that's it. We may as well have been in jail. I think I met maybe 5 people in 43 days that said the center actually helped them. I have really young kids so that shot to get treatment was the only one my family could afford for me to take. Not financially though, we had amazing insurance that paid more than $20,000 a week for me to be there. For 3 hours a week treatment at most. I left there as screwed up as I was when I went in, maybe even more so as this place took away some of my faith in human nature. When I landed at the airport back home again I rushed through the airport to see my family and I was crying so hard that about a dozen people stopped me to see if I was OK and all I could do was cry and choke and say @my babies. I need to see my babies!" When I got to them sitting outside I grabbed them and held them so tight and swore I would never leave them again. It was so hard on them having me gone for those 43 days. I am no better off having gone there. Paul himself and the second in charge spoke to both my husband and I and promised us the world and lied and said that they would do this and do that and none of it happened. They robbed me of the one chance I had to get help for the sexual abuse I had suffered as a very young kid. They took all that money & didn't do a thing to help. DO NOT GO TO ANY OF THEIR CENTERS IF YOU WANT HELP. Unless the staff chooses you as a favorite you won't get any help. I didn't, haven't nor won't ever care about being a favorite of anymore but what I will care about is doing the right thing & these treatment centers don't do anything but line their greedy pockets with money. I'm SOO HAPPY MY FAMILY PICKED SPENCER RECOVERY CENTER. My life has changed amazingly... I never thought after going to many other centers this one would have such a profound effect on me. The staff was wonderful to me , my counselor helped me everyday and they helped me not only learn about the program , but helped me plan aftercare and helped me get my self esteem back and helped me get a job. They truly care about you and invest time to each person there. And the people who gave a bad review.. They didn't follow the rules and I feel sorry for you... If you're on Yelp looking at a recovery center for your loved one you should definitely look elsewhere. This place is a joke. I checked my wife into this rehab facility, they charged me up front for 3 months of treatment. My wife relapsed in this rehab after a few weeks. Other patients had also relapsed which helped lead to her relapse. I've tried to recoup the money I spent for the other 2 months she was no longer in the facility. In the end their offices kept lieing to me. They would tell me to call back after the insurance had gone through. Then they'd refuse to take my calls and wouldn't call me back. So in the end this rehab facility took 2 months of money I spent for treatment even though my wife wasn't even there. Ripoff artists! I've spoken to other rehab facilities and they all claim they'd refund my money for any time that the patient wasn't actually being cared for at their facility. I want to say Please look else where before putting a loved one in Spencer's recovery. I dropped my daughter off thinking this was a safe place for her to recover, and believed she was in a safe environment. The first week I went to family day on Saturday there was chaos throughout the whole house. People doing drugs in the mansion, and on the Laguna property to everyone having relationships with each other. I was really upset, but didn't want to be the parent who acted irrational, and pull my daughter out especially since my main concern was her sobriety so I called with my concerns. It was exactly the response I wanted they would be moving people from the property. After the second week they tried to move her upstairs with another patient who was caught using. I will never understand the thinking of these people as I am not an addict myself, and don't have the understanding. I do know this was not what I expected, and began researching to find this is exactly what Spencer's was about. The more a patient relapses the more insurance money or private pay they can continue to charge for the patient. Mind you they have all the drug paraphernalia on the premises for these vulnerable people to see daily which being new to recovery should not be on the premises in my eyes. My heart was breaking, and I just wanted to get my daughter out of the property. I just didn't want to upset my child in anyway, as this place did enough of that with the constant bs they would pull daily. By the third week they were moving her, and I needed to pick her up, and take her to another facility which I was happy thinking maybe I would be closer, and keep a closer eye on what is going on. Of course now more money, and less treatment. I didn't want to argue because I didn't like what I had seen so far. I picked her up, and took her myself, and checked out the place before I left. I was still a little unsure of what this place was all about, but had no choice, and was praying for the best. I went on the weekend to find once again one of the patients brought drugs on the premises for the patients to use. I just don't understand how they can let this continue to go on, but regardless of what I felt this was not going to stop. It's insane to think this is a professional business, and this has continued to go on, and it hasn't been stopped. I am praying people STOP before putting a loved one into any of their centers. They don't seem to care about the sobriety of their patients because they want them to relapse so they can collect more money. It's a shame, and could go on and on to other incidents that had taken place, but I am just begging you to stop, and rethink Spencer's for it will be your biggest nightmare, and cause your loved to relapse. I wish I would of checked out Yelp before sending my loved on to the pit of hell. I would give five stars to Carol and Will at the Laguna facility and Alisha from PS as they seem to care about their clients. Most of the people in the facility breach patient confidentiality, and lie about everything they say. I guess that is a known addict behavior. read more

Spencer Recovery had quite a few similar characteristics to jail. Lockdown with extremely limited outdoor space at the facility and bad food. Also, it seems like more of a business that is highly interested in making money; almost a pyramid scheme kind of setup. I was there for about 6 weeks. My relapse risk was very high the whole 6 weeks because there were so many drugs present, circulating through the facility client-to-client - lots of relapses. I saw about 10 people get kicked out in a 24-hour period for relapsing. Now that I have left (its been about 3 weeks), I have been keeping in touch with a few fellow clients that are still there, and apparently not much has changed. Before I checked in to this rehab center, I talked to a friend of a friend who had gone there in the past. I asked him how the program was. He replied, "Its pretty much a shit show." Spencer Recovery lived up to this description. You can get clean anywhere if you really want to, but your chances of success will be lowered significantly if you are in a high risk environment. read more

This place is a flat-out CON. Most of the staff are sub-par, and play "favorites." The pictures that are advertised look NOTHING like it really is. It was a nursing home prior to becoming a "rehab" and that's exactly how it feels. People are crammed into rooms together--sometimes 6 at a time, all sharing 1 bathroom. Half the time patients are left to stand around and smoke cigarettes in a small, gated, concrete yard. In fact, patients are rewarded with cigarettes for doing extra chores!!! I had an absolutely horrible experience here bc the nurses consistently ordered me the wrong meds by accident. Hello? My chart is right in front of you!!! The Psychiatrist who heads up the program is cold which makes communicating impossible. An addict in a fragie state needs to feel as though they are speaking to someone with compassion--not a robot who obviously isnt listening. Each addict is different and therefore has different specific needs. In closing, I found no real value in Spencer's "recovery" center. No one can say I didnt try--I stuck it out for 2 months!!! Immediately after leaving, I checked into a facility in Wilmington, N.C. I got the help I needed there from a truly focused and experienced staff. Save yourself the time and money. Spencer's is nothing like they try to make it sound or look. Oh! Remember those daily beach walks they advertise? We were only offered the opportunity twice my first month. MR. My experience with SRC comes from a friend that I have seen turn his life around with the help of SRC. While its true, not every recovery center is perfect, nobody is. I think that remembering addicts are people who do not like to have to follow rules, we don't like to look at our part and recovery homes will always push every button. BUT if the person sticks it out, like my friend did, they will become an honest, trustworthy, loyal and loving productive member of society. This place is the most unorganized and unprofessional treatment center I've seen. The staff is so confused as to what's going on that it takes hours to get them to accomplish anything. This includes getting meds to finding a room for a new client. The workers in charge of the house often only have around 30-60 days clean. This is because the center keeps them there for free labor. I saw these "staff" members sleeping with the new female clients on more than one occasion. The staff treats the clients poorly. They lose client's items from phones to the bags they came in with. The only genuine people there are the counseling staff. They are kind and actually care about your long term success. I realize that a treatment center is a business first and foremost but I've never seen a treatment so obsessed with money. If you can I highly recommend you look elsewhere for treatment. read more

THIS PLACE IS HELL ON EARTH! They made my trauma worse instead of better. Staff played favorites and turned the other cheek when I was literally sexually harassed. They let this boy stay there, even after he would leave and get drunk, then come back screaming or throwing glass at the building! They only cared about the money, and didn't care if they put other patients at risk. The so-called "psych" never even meets you. You have one short interview ON VIDEO CAMERA the day you come in, and then one every 4 weeks or so. Yet they prescribe and decide what you're allowed to do based off of these short conversations. My counselor lied to the hospital when they came to pick me up after I tried to kill myself. I told them I was no risk, and she told them that I claimed differently, and I was forced to stay in the terrifying hospital psych ward for 24 hours. Once I met with the legitimate psychiatrist there, they immediately released me. When I got sick of the abuse, I requested to go to the other location in St. Petersburg and they refused me, claiming that I was not allowed due to what the psych said (the psych that never met with me after the first time) I had to THREATEN TO REPORT THEM TO MY INSURANCE in order for them to let me go, as I told them that the insurance company would rescind their money if they found out of the abuse I had been dealing with. This place is corrupt and evil and seriously only cares about the money. I then had a stalker at the second location that followed me, put a DEAD BIRD under my bed, physically assaulted me, and they LET HIM STAY. They even lied to the police when I made a claim, saying that I was mentally ill so not to believe me. I hope this place goes out of business. read more

Spent 28 days in this rehab back in 2011. It's pretty bare bones and many of the amenities listed were not available. They do take a group walk down to the beach daily and occasionally to a local store. The groups are all about the 12 steps, which is great for many people and built a solid foundation on which I was able to build my recovery. The staff was mixed, with many seeming very inexperienced. Every day is identical to every other day, and the groups offer no variety or real substance above the AA/NA credo. Unfortunately, while I was there one of the longer term patients who had more freedom brought back alcohol and another brought in drugs, and many of the patients had a party. Worst of all is that they required me to pay thousands of dollars up front, and my insurance only required me to pay about $40. After much back and forth, they refused to refund the money they owed me or furnish proof they refunded it to my credit card. (Which is illegal, because they accepted payment twice for the same services.) Unless you're desperate, I don't recommend staying at Spencer. Find somewhere that they'll care about you as a person and not think of you as merely a dollar sign. read more

While it Spencer treatment center and Laguna Beach All my residential benefits or exhausted within 20 days And I was being cornered to admit I relapsed when I didn't. I then asked for medical records And never received them. Finally I call the lab myself and they informed me that my levels have only decreased. I had such faith in the facility and till discovering that and the whole Treatment teamWas involvedReason being why none of them work at the Laguna Beach location and most were fired. On top of that they hire addicks and alcoholics with 90 days or less of recovery claiming it's a social model but all that ends up happening is the whole house relapses and then Spencer's recovery trades to reel them back in and claim that they have to go to Florida or there on the streets. I speak this from Experience. The Last badd situation I saw there was law Enforcement Given a name of the client while in the facility breaking direct Hippa laws. Spencer recovery center worked for me, and it will for you so long as you are willing to change. I came to SRC in december of 2013 and ill admit it took a while for me to get throughout all my troubles THEY NEVER GAVE UP ON ME. I only went in with intentions to stay for 30 days and i ended up staying a year with the help of my insurance and the internship program SRC offers. I can truly say Spencers has saved my life. The counselors and staff worked with me and together we found the individualized treatment plan that worked best for me. SRC put structure back into my life, I can truly say they saved my life. This place saved my husbands life over a year ago. He is now one year and five days sober thanks to the center and the staff. Initially, he went in and we assumed he'd complete thirty days and then come home but the program worked and he decided to stay longer to ensure that he had a handle on his sobriety. DO NOT SEND ANYONE YOU CARE ABOUT TO THIS PLACE!!! They will accept your money as well as your insurances money and find a ridiculous reason to kick you out after the fact. My brother has been to multiple rehab facilities and this has to be the worst. Not only did they not search him thoroughly when he arrived, but they kicked him out after four days (just enough time to receive the 10k from insurance) for bringing drugs into the facility. As a drug rehab program, you would assume that they would understand that addicts will always try to bring drugs into a facility. This place uses it as an excuse to take your money and kick you out. To make matters worse, the owner of the facility's DAUGHTER, who has also experienced issues with addiction spoke to my mother and I and explained that my brother would be transferred to another facility (as a procedural issue) since he clearly needed more "one on one" attention. She said he would be sent to a facility that specialized in this area. This sounded very reasonable and we agreed to it. Only a few hours later my brother called and told us that he had been locked up in an "isolation room" without his phone and was now being taken to the hospital to be "discharged". My mother and I had been told (as I previously stated, by the owners' daughter) that he was to be transferred to another one of their facilities. Since my brother was dumped off at the hospital, my mother and I had to drive to pick him up. We arrived at the hospital and the nurse told us that there was no reason for him to be there and that this particular "rehab program" often dumped off patients there late at night (it was after 10pm) so that the patients weren't their problem any longer. The nurse was so upset that she called the Laguna facility and they hung up on her after she stated her concern. I can personally confirm this since I was in the room and the phone was on speaker. After arriving at the hospital and being told by the NURSE that this place is a scam, we picked my brother up and drove back to the Laguna facility in order to pick up my brothers belongings and medications. Since my brother was only there for FOUR days of treatment, he had been prescribed certain meds by his doctor to help him with his withdrawals. They did not release his meds that night and made us come back the next morning. This was only after almost THREE HOURS of going back and forth trying to figure out why they dumped my brother at the hospital when they were legally liable for him. The excuse we were given is that they were the night crew and had no authority. They had many excuses but could not give an official reason why they could not accept m brother at another facility. ERIC was very helpful and tried very hard to help us. Unfortunately, ROBERT (also known as BOB) was convinced that my brother needed to go back to the hospital to "detox" off of benzo's (Bob also told us that this was his drug of choice while he was in rehab) when in reality, my brother was being PRESCRIBED benzo's by the programs nurse in order to help him with the withdrawals of his OPIAT addiction. BOB was emotionally swayed by his personal experience with benzo's and kicked my brother out on to the streets and turned him away when he needed help the most. Our insurance, like most other, only allows you to admit into ONE rehab program per month. This means that my brother was released after FIVE days and left to the streets for the other TWENTY SIX days of the month. As if this is not bad enough, my mother was working as hard as she could to find a facility that we could afford without insurance since the SPENCER facility took all of our insurance money for the month (even though my brother was only there for less than a week) when she received a call from the facility. The call stated that they had my brother in a van and were taking him to a hospital to detox since he was addicted to benzo's (which again, he is not and he is addicted to Opiats). My mother was very confused as to how they could be taking my brother to the hospital since he was SITTING NEXT TO MY MOTHER!!!!!!!! The facility again, hung up on my mother and would not pick up her calls after the fact. If you care about your family, send them ANYWHERE else besides the SPENCER FACILITIES!!! They will lie you, take your money, and leave your sick family member(s) to the streets (or just drop them off at the local hospital). My brother is sick. He needs help. This place gave him false hope and kicked him out. I wish this upon NO ONE. Please avoid all SPENCER affiliated facilities in order to help your loved ones. read more

Hello I'm a junkie for 15 yrs, I've been to 7 rehabs. I know more about drugs and rehabs then 90% of the population. I am going to take you through one and a half days there. As I walk through the hall. I notice 2 people sweating, with a garbage in front of them. I found out that there is no professional doctor, or any medical advisor, they are "nurses". They had been using heroin for ten yrs. The nurse gave them suboxone for 3 days and cut them off. Anyway they were so sick they left to get dope. As I sit in my 12:30 group, a girl leaves, smokes weed and comes back to group. Nothing happened. As me and my friends talk in the hall, the topic is credit cards, and how three people's were stolen. 8 30 PM group two people are smoking heroin in their bathroom. They get caught w burned foil and straws. Due to not enough proof of heroin nothing happen. At 9 30 I went to the laundry room where 2 people were having sex for like the 8th time. Due to knowledge on how to manipulate ins companies that's all that matters. The first day I walked in it smelled so bad I got a flashback of being in a crack house. My father came to c Me and told me " it smells like piss in here ". The reason I stayed was BC of two counselors Britten, and Michelle were beyond amazing. After spending 65,000.00 CASH BC I was tricked by the internet, I ended up leaving w a huge stye on my eye. I had to get it cut open by a doc. The reason for this was BC they do not wash the comforters. It was 2 months and not once washed. The doctor told me when your face touches sheets, or a pillow, that are so filthy and haven't been cleaned, you will get a bad infection. Thank you Chris Spencer read more

Drugs are everywhere. There are no consequences for clients behavior. If they don't got to mandatory groups ..oh well. The "beach house is disgusting and needs updated. Termites, windows that don't open. Mold and ants all over the place. Someone is going to lean on the patio fence and fall..TERMITES.. The electricity needs to be fixed. Now on to the "main house" Bed Bugs in two rooms.. After it was exterminated the kept the same mattresses. The state needs to make a surprise visit and take every sheet off every bed and see the mattresses. They have never been cleaned and at this point cleaning won't help. No Dr on staff and or Nurse during 11pm-8am..."RA3" what a joke. You can't talk , be human.. And Insurance fraud. They will sign you up in the past for Health net and pay the premium. The State needs go in there with a fine tooth comb..To Much to write PS Spencers Recovery will fly you to California.. and tell you the will give you a ticket back home.. This place is horrible! DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE!!!! Their customer service is a joke! You are treated automatically as a criminal.. A liar.. And not worth respect! Everything they promise you in the beginning when they are trying to sign you is a lie! Rehab is scary to be begin with and this type of treatment doesn't help when you are away from your known environment! Plus, they violate your human rights by making you sign papers that you can't leave reviews or talk about them which is against the law to ask! THowever, if you don't care about any of the above and u just need a box with a bed to detox then this place is for you.. If you expect more from your rehab center then you are better off at another place! ***they have the nerve to get mad at you if you refuse to blindly sign their admissions forms!! Do not go to this place. It is filthy. The mattresses look like they came from the Goodwill. Furniture was old and broken down. Smoke detectors are either taken down or batteries removed. The only medical person on staff is an LPN from 8:30-4:30. All she does is take your blood pressure and distribute medication. I was there three days before seeing a Dr and that was via Skype. The office staff failed to file my disability paperwork because they lost it. Former addicts are running the show. They check on you once at night by peaking in on you. One girl was kissed in her sleep by the attendant/former addict. She Blamed herself for this!?!? They cannot control the patients and the classes are a joke. One girl was almost standing on her head in a chair as a joke durning class. It is highly unprofessional. There is no security only former patients hanging around. They have no security training. I ended up in the ER for withdrawals after being in this place, because again, there was no medical personnel on site. Lastly, they did a bait and switch. Admitting me to the in network part of the facility and then transferring me to an out of network facility which was more expensive and did not inform me it was out of network until after the fact. They billed me $10,600 for two urine tests-lab. My total bill was for 4 days and totaled $14000+ outside of the lab work. I was in Laguna Mission Hospital for four days and the bill was a little over $10,000 this included labs. These people are ripoff artists and I am reporting them to the California medical board. The website video is the upscale portion it was in disrepair and filthy as well. The pool is so dirty , I wouldn't let my dog swim in it. The "counselor" is a former alcoholic who tells you how great he is and then hands a 12 step binder/book to you. The other female counselor was mean, read questions from a computer, made very little eye contact, was okay to be interrupted for a lunch order or phone call while I was in session with her. She also went on to tell me she hated what she was doing and wanted to work with children. Good luck with that. You'd have be insane to hire someone like that for children. Uh.. guess she forgot I was the one paying her. read more

Spencer Recovery Center is a fantastic place to begin a new sober life. I am so thankful to have completed 90 days at this facility. My life has never been better. I have learned so much since being there and continue to expand my knowledge in life. I enjoyed the program they offered and it was impeccably structured. I gained so much from the groups they offered, they had outside AA meetings, AA panels in the group room, groups that focused on issues addicts deal with daily, thorough 1 on 1 counselor meetings, and assignments that helped re-evaluate how our lives were unmanageable, and this was all on a daily basis. They also had a personal trainer named Robert Layton which had a workout class 5 times a week. Robert has been sober for over 18 years and has expansive valuable knowledge for everyone. He teaches a class called Recovery in Motion and it was one of my favorite. Robert teaches how to do yoga stretches, elastic band workouts, meditation, and body workouts that can be done anywhere. The staff was polite, attentive, and understanding. All the counselors are knowledgeable and well experienced. Carol Coleman was my counselor, she was always pleasant, considerate, and enthusiastic. I am pleased to have had her as my counselor. The best gift I have received in sobriety is having a meaningful relationship with my family. I am thankful for the support of all the staff at Spencer's and my parents. It is a great day to be sober. read more

Worst rehab ever. I was a client there in march 2013. All they are about is frauding people's insurance and their families. My mother was told to tell me to use as much drugs before coming in as possible so as to test dirty for the initial drug test so I could obtain the most amount of residential detox from my insurance company. I spent 2 days in detox before being moved to the 17 million dollar beach house which is part of the rehab for higher paying clients. All it is is a party house. There were drugs all over the house. Naked girls swimming in the pool, it was just a huge party house. The clinical portion of Spencer's is also a fluke. The staff and group therapy is pathetic. Every day we would listen to life lines and step ones over and over and once in a while we would draw our feelings. But there was no real precessional feeling to the therapy given. I felt as if I was in pre-school. I'm 25. I left Spencer's after a month. I enrolled in able to change in San Juan capistrano. I now have 9 months clean and sober. No thanks to Spencer's. I've never encountered such Unprofessionalism ever. They lie about insurance coverage and then will give you the boot soon as your insurance drops you. Which the average insurance coverage is only 6-8 days for a place like that. Anthem blue cross won't even cover them because their BBB administration rating is a C-. Should be an F. I'd give negative stars if I could. This rehab cost my mother a lot of money and caused me a ton of stress. If I'd of stayed there the entire 3 months I had planned I guarantee I'd still be using and probably have had a girl pregnant to say the least. I'm proud in my sobriety now and while Spencer's was fun for the short time. I'm now serious into my life and sobriety and want to warn parents about this place. It's no good please keep your loved ones clear. read more

I am truly disheartened by the unsettling, negative, & distasteful reviews I have read about the treatment center that literally saved my life!! This is not some cookie cutter rehab. They cared enough to cater to my needs on every level so I could finally achieve some freedom and peace in my life. I feel sorry the people who did not embrace the gift that Spencers has to offer. My hats are off to the staff, and a HUGE THANK YOU to Mr. Spencer for helping me achieve freedom, and a better way to live. I'm eternally, and infinitely grateful! read more

Before coming to Spencer Recovery Center my life was unmanageable, out of control, and I hated life in general. I forgot what it felt like to be happy, have responsibility, and do everyday tasks. So many times I would say to myself this is the last time, I'm never going to pick up again and every time I failed myself. I knew I had a problem but did not know how to face it alone. I had destroyed every relationship around me and was scared to ask for help so I picked up the phone, dialed the 800 number, got in touch with a gentleman in Laguna Beach California, and he had me a bed in St. Pete Beach about an hour later. Even though I knew I needed to come and get my life on track I fought it for the first couple weeks. That's the thing about your addiction it's always lying to you. I kept telling myself after a few days sober, I'm not a drug addict I'm fine. Reality set in after talking to staff and other clients and I slowly realized there was a power greater than myself and I have been able to gradually turn items and issues I have struggled with for years over to a God of my understanding. I have been at Spencer's for 57 days now and LOVE MY LIFE!! Spencer's has a unique program they call Extended Care. After we have been here for 30 days we get an opportunity to do an internship. We help out with everyday tasks such as, breakfast, waking clients for a 7am meeting, reminding them that it is time for groups, help out the new comer, and daily chores. It is one of the most genius ideas out there for recovering alcoholics and addicts. It gives us a chance to get back in touch with ourselves and others before we go out into the real world again. It also helps me to be a productive member of society. I can make a life for myself due to this program. They offer a schooling to be a Certified Addictions Specialist which I plan to do. The staff here is so encouraging and helpful. For me, it also helps to keep me sober. I could not ask other clients to go to groups and meetings if I was not doing so myself. I really do benefit from this program. I like staying busy and it helps keep me focused. I had lost a lot of life skills due to my addiction. I am learning new things every day and it's awesome. It feels good to know people trust me and look up to me again. I do daily tasks again like make breakfast for the clients. That is probably one of my favorite things to do. Just knowing that people want to come to me to talk and get some advice from me is also very fulfilling. I am honored I get the chance to experience life in a brand new way. Spencer's Recovery Center has opened my eyes in a way I never imagined. I am forever grateful to this program and Center. read more
