Purchased these desserts yesterday and the (surely) server who pulled these out of the case - without gloves and smudged them - was testy with me for requesting new ones, literally giving me a look of disdain. After she said "You want me to redo these" with an expression that clearly conveyed she had no desire to do so, I just took them as is. Mr. Dan Riley was a treasure but after he retired the bakery has never been the same.

I will never skip a trip to Bowling Green again, just so I can go back to this bakery. I have been gluten-free for 13 years and have tried gluten-free baked products all over the country from Washington state to Florida. Awaken Bakery has absolutely broken the code on gluten-free bread and desserts. My husband does not eat gluten-free unless he takes a bite of something I have. Yesterday, he tried a blueberry scone, shared a toasty sandwich with me, shared a sausage biscuit with me, and also got a lemon cake cup. He said everything he ate, he would not ever have been able to tell was gluten-free and was absolutely delicious. Oh, he also shared my cinnamon roll with me. We devoured that thing in less time than it took to actually order and pay for it! That cinnamon roll was the BEST cinnamon roll I have ever had in my life, gluten-free or not! I also got a mini cupcake sampler that had wedding cake, carrot cake, and a chocolate version that I have not tried yet. Having traveled the country to eat, lol, I can tell you that this Awaken Bakery is one place that I will absolutely put on my list to travel back to any opportunity I have. I wish I hadn't been starving and had taken the time to take photos of their sweet little bake shop and all of our food before we started devouring it, but I did manage to grab a photo of the cupcake sampler, minus one cupcake, the French toast, cup, and the lemon cake cup. Everything was so delicious that I even bought a hat and T-shirt and ball cap from them. I am including a photo of that. The little girl that took our order was super sweet and very knowledgeable. I was disappointed in the half chicken salad sandwich. One piece of the bread was semi soft while the other was hard which led me to believe the bread bag had been left open. When I showed our waitress how hard my bread was by tapping a finger nail on the bread she didn't hesitate to take it away and bring me a new sandwich. Whomever made my half sandwich clearly had to know the bread was hard and it should never have been served! The chicken salad sandwich was nothing to remember. Our waitress said it was, "the most requested sandwich on the menu". Hmmm. There was no lettuce, no tomato, no crunch of celery, no real taste of anything special. It was simply stringy chicken with mayonnaise. So disappointing. With sandwiches served on dry hard bread we had to question the freshness of the pastries, wedding cakes etc. We decided not to chance it and opted for milkshakes at another establishment.

I love this place! For one, the location is awesome - downtown on the square! Two, their building emits a warm feel with the natural brick wall left inside and what not. I found this place when I came to attend WKU and haven't gone back to starbucks or dunkin' donuts. They're a tad expensive, but the coffee is excellent and I also feel like you are paying for the scenery as well...it's a nice location and they've done a nice job decorating and making the space feel cozy. read more

These are cooked until they are very soft, mushy and so full of seasonings and flavorful that I think a small child would like them. Hence, my review is not just about Brussels sprouts. Although Cambridge Market has had to increase their prices in the last few years, they are still competitive. One of my favorite things to get is the four veggie plate; however, I had never ordered them to go before. Today's order prompted me to take a few minutes and write a review. You get your choice of four veggies or salads along with your choice of roll or cornbread (which I opt out on). The portions, -- especially when compared to fast food restaurants such as Popeye's mashed potatoes where you get maybe 4 tablespoons of instant potatoes with 2 tablespoons of gravy on them -- are profoundly different. Cambridge Market has real mashed potatoes and yummy gravy. (I am not completely adverse to instant potatoes, but I am adverse to paying for a restaurant side dish that has a quality and portion of a frozen TV dinner.) Cambridge market knows what they are doing for sure with my four favorites: Brussels sprouts, lima beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, and their crisply-sweet broccoli salad. Another menu item -- my friend's favorite-- Is their Manhattan style roast beef on bread with mashed potatoes in the middle. I was pleased that the young lady who took my order was polite on the phone (and in person), I was pleased that I was not charged for an accompanying glass of ice water, and I was pleased that my order had the required utensils and napkins in the bag. The chocolate filled was good but the filling was like chocolate pudding and while good I do prefer chocolate buttercream type fillings more. 7/31/24 TL;DR…read moreI would rate this coffee shop 5/5 stars. The King's Café is a fun little coffee shop in downtown Glasgow, with a nicely sized coffee menu, with other drink options as well. They feature a few different espresso options, with a multitude of latte flavors; and smoothie options as well. Before I continue, I'd like to point out that I am a barista at my local coffee shop where I live. That being said, I am by no means a coffee expert. I do, however have good knowledge of coffee, espresso, milk steaming, and the like. (Background) I came to The King's Café with my dad in July of 2024, hoping to try something new and interesting. Additionally, I wanted to try their cappuccino, to see how different coffee shops make it. We ended up not trying any bakery item, so I'm the future I will edit my review to include them. My brother has also been to this coffee shop before I did, giving me his input as well. (Friendliness) The barista at the bar was very kind and helpful, and when I asked what he suggests, he was open to answer my questions. He also seemed enthusiastic about his job, engaging in conversation with customers. (Coffee) I ordered a cappuccino and a Caramel Apple latte (I can't remember the exact name of the drink-it was a seasonal beverage, maybe called the Pink Lady[??], I've forgotten). The Caramel Apple latte was an interesting combination of flavors, with the apple flavor overpowering the caramel by just a little, which I didn't mind all too much. The cappuccino was a little different than I had expected. A traditional cappuccino is made in 12oz or 6oz cup, served as a 1/3-ish ratio of espresso, milk, and foam. When I ordered my cappuccino, the barista gave me the option of a 16oz or 20oz- a little bit different than a traditional cappuccino. Additionally, there wasn't any latte art on the top of my cappuccino, which isn't really a big deal to me, but I know that some people can be picky. SIDE NOTE: A previous negative review said that the espresso shots that they pour are 10 seconds, which is way off from a perfect 27 second shot. I asked the barista at the bar, and he poured me a shot of espresso, to test my theory. the shot that he poured was 34 seconds, which is *technically* a bit long, but still a very good, and servable shot. (Smoothies) My dad ordered a strawberry smoothie, which is one of the many different fruits that they have available for smoothies. When he took a sip of it, however, he pointed out that it was quite grainy. Which he concluded could be attributed to the use of access ice, or the use of refrozen strawberries. Again, it wasn't a terribly big deal, but it is good to know for the future. When my brother went to this coffee shop and few weeks before I did, he pointed out that they have protein powder available to add to your smoothies, which is a nice addition, considering many coffee shops don't have that option. (Atmosphere) The atmosphere of The King's Café is very chill and relaxed, with classic music playing at a reasonable volume over some speakers. Additionally, they uphold a chill, Elvis Presley vibe, with fun paintings of him, vinyl records, and music playing devices decorating the café. The place seemed nice and clean, with the bathrooms, dining room, and bar area cleaned regularly. To conclude my review, The King's Café is a chill, relaxing environment to grab a coffee or smoothie at. After further review, I rate this place 5/5 stars, and I would definitely recommend! Really, really bad coffee in a charming and otherwise pleasant environment…read more Shots were poured too fast (only 10 seconds!) and we're allowed to sit for nearly 20 seconds before being incorporated into the drink, resulting in bitter, weak coffee flavor. (Shots should take 18-22 seconds to pour, with a rich golden crema on top, if the grind is adjusted properly, and need to be incorporated with milk immediately to retain the delicate sugars in espresso.) This was covered up by a gut-punch of sugary syrup (I ordered a vanilla breve). I threw the drink out after a couple sips. Sad, because the place is fun and inviting (Elvis-themed, dark and woody) and the service is friendly. If the staff was well trained in professional espresso service, this funky down-trodden little town wouldn't know what hit it! There's no good coffee here. The best in town is Fine Arts Bistro, and it's only good depending on the person making it. If anyone actually figures out how to make good coffee consistently here in this charming, working-class town, I think the locals will beat a path to them and make them profitable. As of this review, there is no such place in the Glasgow area. Not recommended, just yet.
