Cambridge market and Cafe has intensified my craving for Brussels sprouts. If you like your brussels sprouts firm like little hard al dente balls of cabbage, then these won't be for you. These are cooked until they are very soft, mushy and so full of seasonings and flavorful that I think a small child would like them. Hence, my review is not just about Brussels sprouts. Although Cambridge Market has had to increase their prices in the last few years, they are still competitive. One of my favorite things to get is the four veggie plate; however, I had never ordered them to go before. Today's order prompted me to take a few minutes and write a review. You get your choice of four veggies or salads along with your choice of roll or cornbread (which I opt out on). The portions, -- especially when compared to fast food restaurants such as Popeye's mashed potatoes where you get maybe 4 tablespoons of instant potatoes with 2 tablespoons of gravy on them -- are profoundly different. Cambridge Market has real mashed potatoes and yummy gravy. (I am not completely adverse to instant potatoes, but I am adverse to paying for a restaurant side dish that has a quality and portion of a frozen TV dinner.) Cambridge market knows what they are doing for sure with my four favorites: Brussels sprouts, lima beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, and their crisply-sweet broccoli salad. Another menu item -- my friend's favorite-- Is their Manhattan style roast beef on bread with mashed potatoes in the middle. I was pleased that the young lady who took my order was polite on the phone (and in person), I was pleased that I was not charged for an accompanying glass of ice water, and I was pleased that my order had the required utensils and napkins in the bag. Food was good, but not anything extraordinary. Wife and I both had the Roast Beef Manhattan for lunch. What triggered the less-than-stellar review was the experience at the checkout. This is a self-service, casual restaurant. As has become commonplace, there was the annoying "tip" prompt on the screen. Because this was our first time at Cambridge, I asked the cashier what services were performed so I would know how to "tip." She responded with "we clean off the table" and "we cook the food"! I made up my mind that we would never return, as this was obviously the attitude of the owner. It is the proprietor's responsibility to pay the employees! I like supporting local businesses and especially local restaurants. Burger and Bowl, which I would consider comparable and that we frequent, does not prompt for tips. Even two franchise chains, Mission BBQ and Culver's, provide more diner support and do not ask for tips. read more

They are back!! Better than ever. Had the 3 salad plate; chicken salad, pimento cheese, broccoli salad. As good as I remember!! My friend said the smash burger was delicious. It's clean and ready to serve you. read more

I was out at the bar one night and ran into a dude that made the white bean chowder at the time. I asked him for the recipe after I'd bought him a few drinks, and he told me he'd give it to me at the end of the night. End of the night comes, and this dude slips me a wadded up cocktail napkin with a haphazard list of ingredients, like "beans" "corn" etc. that was it. I have always wondered if he even knew what was in it at all. Or if he was even real. He might've been the drunkest Angel anyone's even seen. That does raise another question though: Does this place still have salmon patties on Fridays? read more

Cambridge Market is wonderful. I ordered all my Thanksgiving dinner from them and a delicious cheese ring. The food was fabulous. Ordering and delivering were great and the customer service outstanding and friendly. I love all the food at Cambridge and it is nice to support a great local business. read more

I've heard about this place for years but just recently decide to try it. I will definitely return! I had grilled salmon that was cooked to perfection, and well seasoned. The whole, small brussel sprouts were tender with a small amount of some cheesy sauce, bacon, and water chestnuts these have to be some of the best I've experienced. I also tried the zucchini and mushrooms. They were good, but didn't rank as high to me as the other two items. This little hidden gem does not need to be hidden from everyone!! The menu, while small, offers an excellent choice for the delicatessen connoisseur. From the club, to their "Ole Smokey " to their traditional sides like pasta salad and potato salad, it's a great place to eat. We got there just before the lunch rush of what seemed like the entire police department came in. They handled the line extremely quickly. They give a 10% discount to wku students. I got the ole Smokey which is pastrami and roast beef topped with bbq sauce and red onions, served with choice of side and a full pickle spear. My goodness...such a good combination of flavors. The price of the restaurant definitely makes it appealing, as most main menu choices are 5.99. I definitely recommend this restaurant. 5/5! read more

Now THIS is how a small town Kentucky restaurant should be. With all of the typical cookie-cutter American chains dominating Bowling Green's restaurant scene, a local family-owned restaurant like this really stands out from the crowd. Cambridge serves authentic southern home cookin' with friendly faces and great prices (you can walk out of here stuffed for ~$7). Everything I've tried here is AMAZING. They typically have their daily specials scrawled out on a whiteboard in the entrance - I've tired their marinated grilled chicken, their meatloaf, and several sandwiches. Every single item is incredible and prepared with care. Cambridge's entrees aren't their only strength, though - they have a list of around a dozen sides. I've tried their green beans, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, cinnamon apples, and sweet potato souffle - every single one is top notch. When eating here, it's easy to forget that you're not at grandma's house for a family reunion. Stop eating at chains, Bowling Green! Cambridge Market & Cafe is a no-brainer. By that I mean there is no need to overthink your selection. Close your eyes, point at the menu and whatever you get will be delicious and a bargain. That said...... it's hot now, so don't miss the chance to have the best Chicken Salad anywhere. Have it on sourdough with a slice of summer tomato and lettuce - heaven! Get the BLT before management figures out they are loading on too much bacon for the price - again the summer tomato has to be local and fresh off the vine. The potato salad is fabulous. Broccoli salad is tasty and you know your Momma would be proud that you are eating your veggies. When the weather cools, I'm first in line for a bowl of White Bean Chowder. Yummmmmm. The Hot Chicken Salad is great. I like to take it to-go and tell hubby that "dinner is ready!" Last but not least, avoid the desserts. Yes.....avoid. Cuz if you get started you are not going to stop. Don't blame me, I warned you. The cheesecake and Pecan Pie are both especially dangerous. Cambridge Market is a bit like the TV bar Cheers. Pretty nice location. Great place when they're not busy to study and eat. I got the turkey and dressing and two side plate. It was around $11 and I felt that to be an okay price for what you get. Portions are not huge but they're appropriate. The Mac and cheese in my opinion tasted off. I couldn't place it but it wasn't very good. Reminded me of school mac and cheese. The mashed potatoes and turkey as well as the turkey gravy were delicious! The stuffing could have used more seasoning and some celery. But overall it was pretty good! If you steer clear of the Mac and cheese this place is great. read more

Not for foodies. Very homestyle, but not in a charming way. Everything is a bit bland (except the cake) and a bit generic. Also, the place should be cheaper than it is. Should have read Amy S.'s review before coming. We wanted a quick lunch but also sit down. When we first walked in, my boyfriend asked how I felt. I told him it was fine, kind of reminded me of my deli back home (not a cafe, this is NOT a cafe!). Then the longer I stayed, the less I felt that way. The deli back home was just so much better. This place was just so generic, limited, and overpriced. I don't know why people like this place. This is my favorite place to go for lunch when visiting my Dad in Bowling Green. The food tastes like home, the portions are good, and the price is reasonable. They have a varied menu of plate lunches and so far everything has tasted great. The Reuben sandwich is delicious. Lots of desserts, and if you want banana pudding you had better get there early. We were excited to find a deli in the Bowling Green area. I am sorry to say that we can't give a good review. The restaurant is clean and the employees were friendly. The problem was the food. It was just under $20.00 for lunch. That was two sandwiches and two sodas. That would have be fine if it was a true deli sandwich. The roast beef sandwich was very small, had a bun not bread, and for some reason it was served hot. The portion size was what I would consider a child size. The Reuben sandwich was ok, not great. I came here today with my husband and son. My catfish was so old and tough that it was difficult to chew- I'm not sure when it was fried, but it hadn't been any time recently. The woman at the table next to me said the same thing. My husband got the salmon- no sauce to be seen? They also somehow ran out of greens at the time they were making his order :(. My corn cake also tasted like it had been made some time before. My son's fruit was quite hard- only one or two bites were edible. I got the Tuesday Special of Meatloaf and 2 sides. (Hassbrown Casserole and Mashed Pototoes) It was ready in less than a minute and was good. The meatloaf was moist and the potatoes were real, not instant. It isn't fancy and maybe a bit pricey for what you get but I will eat here again. read more

I was wondering why this favorite only had 2 reviews since 2010 and now I know. Only conclusion is that the quality of the food has been on a nose dive for a couple of years now. Can't say anything about the service since there isn't any. Was looking forward to the White Bean Chowder specialty and should have know better. Bean chowder should have been my first clue. If you are into watered down navy bean soup and are lucky enough to get a small piece of sliced over cooked ham, then you deserve just that. Don't expect any more from the chicken salad sandwich. Mine was thrown together so fast that the bread was pointed in different direction. A small piece of lettuce, a small scoop of chicken salad and a drink for $8.00 after tax. What a deal. Great home cooked food. We were passing through and found this place on yelp. We stopped in and I asked the server what her would recommend and he said meatloaf with hashbrown casserole and peach cobbler. I went with that and it was all delicious. If I lived near here I could see it becoming a regular spot for me. My husband had pinto beans with his meatloaf and they were great too. My daughter had mashed potatoes and baked apples with hers and raved about both. This place is a definite must try. read more

Stopped here for the 2017 eclipse and was in need of some quick, quality food. Did not disappoint! A hidden gem among these small towns. I had lunch here last week for the first time in a very long time. I tried the Hot Chicken Salad and it was amazing! I was greeted with a smile when I walked in the door and the staff, especially the young lady who took my order (I believe her name was Lauren) was extremely polite and courteous & offered suggestions of favorite sides and desserts.
