The Tikka Masala was neither savory nor spicy -- basically just a weak tomato sauce. The Korma, which is usually rich and creamy, had almost no flavor at all. The Butter Chicken had all the flavor and texture of baby food. I later learned that in many London Indian restaurants spice levels are fixed by dish, whereas in the U.S. you're often asked how spicy you want it. Perhaps I would've enjoyed a Vindaloo more, but even allowing for that difference the dishes undeniably lacked both spice and flavor. Additionally, my wife and I had planned to share an order of rice but the waiter insisted we each order our own. We both ended up with half a bowl left and wasted £5 for no reason. I don't enjoy leaving bad reviews, but this experience was genuinely disappointing. I told my friends I'd make it up to them with "real" Indian food the next time they visit Los Angeles.

Say 3 stars. The cauliflower croquettes were out of this world--you really should get them. They has numerous notes of flavor including coconut and the inside was mushy goodness. Couldn't taste the cauliflower much but whatever the mushiness was--it was great. The tandoori chicken was also very good--the flavor was muted and the exterior a little crisp (in a good way) but the chicken itself was moist and flavorful. If they had a 4 minus I'd give it that and I'd order it next time. The lamb chops had a ton of flavor and an overabundance of garnish while they were cooked just right. They said they were crispy but--although they LOOKED crispy they were not. Since I was hoping for some real crispiness it was a miss. That is, notwithstanding the flavor and cooking bullseye. All in all--don't think of this as an American style steakhouse...t'is not. Think of it as a fancy Indian restaurant with great food (4/5) an almost admirable setting (3/5) and nearly acceptable service, setting, etc (2/5).

I would have liked something else, but the other option was paneer, which I don't eat. - Beetroot Seekh Kabab: I thought this was going to be a delicious beetroot tikki, but it ended up tasting like meat to me. I had to check twice if it was vegetarian. I'm not a fan of fake meat at all, and this was not something I enjoyed. - Black Daal: this was decent. A bit too burnt flavor. Black daal traditionally is not burnt. - Kulfi: this was yummy. Overall, a great place to hang out. I wish they had more vegetarian and vegan options, especially if someone is paying $50 per person.
