After dinner we were on the hunt for a sweet bite and thanks to Yelp we ended up here! Entering the small shop, it was super homey and we were greeted by a super nice gentleman. It was bout an hour before they closed, and there were a few people still there - plus they had plenty of cake left. We went with the cheesecake with raspberry and carrot cake! The carrot cake has a creamy frosting on it unlike any other I've ever tried on carrot cake. It's not cream cheese frosting it's more like a whip cream and cinnamon had a baby. The cake is fluffy, not dense. Amazing! It's a HUGE slice (which photographs VERY well lol) and I couldn't finish it all. I really wish I had saved the rest for later haha. Overall this was a nice sweet ending to our evening. We did get to walk it off a bit as we headed back to the hotel, but the calories were well worth it! read more

Space accommodates about 3 tables for 2, 1 patio seating for 2-3 and one big table at the back that can sit 10 max. The coffees are reasonably priced. The hubs got a cappuccino (1 shot) and I got a latte (2 shots) for EUR2 each. We both liked the latte as it tastes more like the cappuccinos we get back home - strong flavours. The cappuccino was average in taste and volume to what we are used to back home. The menu includes teas, hot chocolate, cold brew, fresh fruit juices. Wifi is available and they have A/C. Came back on my last day in Barca and I'm glad I chose here for my final cappuccino! It was wonderful and the presentation was lovely (mmm, cinnamon stick). I got a slice of carrot cake to go and as I was about to put it in the fridge I abandoned all self-control and just about inhaled half of the cake. I can say, without a doubt, that this was the Best Carrot Cake I Have Ever Had. Carrot cake is my dad's favorite cake so I've been eating it quite a lot during my nineteen years on this planet. This cake is moist, the icing creamy and not overpoweringly sweet, and the layers make it difficult to fit one bite on your average fork. The carrot bits are neither too chunky nor nonexistent, and the harmony of cake part and icing part is melt-in-your-mouth bliss. As I was browsing through Barcelona's most popular places, I found Spice and the fact that it had so many positive reviews made me really curious. When we planned our trip towards Montjuïc, we decided to stop here for a coffee and a pineapple lemonade as we were walking in the neighbourhood anyway. We couldn't resist the the red velvet cake either, because it looked so great. These also proved to be really delicious, so we did not regret our choice, of course. I like the interior, too, it is absolutely following the current trends with the the shabby chic of the tables and the wooden shelves. Spice also seems to serve as kind of a community hub with English classes and a book club - so it is the kind of place I would be a regular at if it were in the same city as I am. As this is unfortunately not the case, the only thing I can promise myself is that I will also try the carrot cake next time I am in Barcelona. read more

Dropped in with a couple friends to study and try the famous carrot cake. The goods: Like the reviews said... GET THE CARROT CAKE. It's perfectly moist and sweet and flavorful. And I usually don't like cake. Cafe con leche was standard, nothing crazy, but it went well with the cake. My friend got the ginger lemon (?) cake, which was also good, but not as good as the feature dessert, personally. The ambiance: Cute, cozy, clean. There are a couple seats outside, a couple small tables and a long table inside. Free wifi. The people: Amazing! They were super nice and friendly. I always wondered why this place wasn't busier. I found the carrot cake a little sweet and not spicy enough--same goes for the chai latte- and the Spanish bagel (minus ham, which they discounted me for! How sweet) a little salty and underwhelming (why was I getting a bagel in Barcelona??) That being said, I still craved their food and went a lot. But the other drinks I got were fantastic--the cafe con leche and cortado were by far the best I got anywhere, the ebony mocha was unbelievably delicious, and my friend said her caramel mocha was amazing. Bars in Barcelona are usually ugly and dark. Spice is gorgeous and airy, a great place to spend hours studying or talking. They have a ton of magazines, in Catalan, Spanish, and English. The staff is sweet and bilingual. Excellent small yet cosy cafe with my favourite carrot cake! Coffee was excellent too and they had chai tea latte for those who like their tea spiced up with cinnamon! The cappuccino and carrot cake cost a little less than 7€. The cheesecake looks just as delish but we couldn't eat any more!! It's easy to find, barely a 5-minute walk from the Poble Sec subway station and a nice part of that neighbourhood. BEST CAFE. The food is to die for and you have to get the carrot cake if nothing else. They also make the best chai tea latte I've EVER had and my friend got a cappuccino and said it was amazing as well! We couldn't have been happier to find this place. The bagel sandwiches are also delicious, the Italian was my favorite but they are all fantastic! And while the carrot cake is a must(!!), the strawberry cheesecake is also amazing, as are the homemade Oreos! I've seriously just never been to a more perfect cafe with more perfect people. Lee, the owner, is amazing and so full of life and ready to share his love and knowledge of Barcelona and his cafe and other great places in the neighborhood! The best carrot cake I've ever had. My wife doesn't even like carrot cake and she fought me for the last bite. That should tell you something! The cake had the right balance of icing, perfect density, and not overdone on the carrots or raisins. Just perfect. It's a cozy little shop with a few tables and two very friendly owners. It didn't hurt that they spoke perfect English either! The cake variety changes daily, but the carrot is their specialty. Endrit and Sebas are amazing Baristas - not only from Barcelona standards (which are pretty low in my opinion), but from world standards. This has been repeated so many times, but it´s the truth: CARROT CAKE. All their slices are pretty big, and my friends have gotten different cakes, such as their cheesecake and chocolate cake. Their service is wonderful, and they speak very good english, so no worries if you have bad Spanish like me. It´s also a good place to study, but it is a little smalll, so don´t expect your own table. If the cafe is full, don´t let that deter you from getting something to go! It´s well worth it. read more

We came to Spice during our Barcelona trip after reading the reviews on Yelp. It was a great decision! We tried the red velvet and the Italian cream cake with some hot tea. It's such a cute little restaurant and the owner is SO friendly. Like one of the nicest people we spoke with during our two weeks in Spain. Been coming for years 'cause I adore this place. Delicious cakes & cookies --homemade of course -- baked with the freshest ingredients possible. Coffee is great too! Today I had the Ted Velvet Cake, a spongy layered cake made with tangy buttermilk. Delightful! Try also the famous carrot cake, the crumbly Dutch Apple pie, or the homemade Oreo cookies, about 3 times the size of the originals. Spice also rescues vintage recipes from oblivion, such as the adorably-named Lord Baltimore cake and its counterpart, the Lady Baltimore (one is made with egg whites and the other with the yolks, though I don't remember which is which). The prices are surprisingly low, for the quality of product offered. Only €3,90 for a generous piece of these amazing cakes: that's just crazy. As far as atmosphere: Here you get a truly familiar, neighborhood feel. If you're ferling a little down, this is a good choice, as a constructive, positive energy pervades the place. (It may have to do with language conversation classes that are always taking place here.) The fellas who run it are amongst the sweetest (no pun intended) human beings you'll ever meet.
