Hey, I hate writing this, I really went back and forth on it. I've been an on and off customer for about 7 years. I don't come in all the time, I work with my hands so my fingers are never in the best shape, I get that. I get my nails done only for special events. But for the first time I had a pretty disappointing experience. first off, I booked online for the first time and requested the man I usually get (I have had wonderful experiences of his son running up and asking math questions, like, how cute is that adorableness) and he always just absolutely kills it. I got seated twice with two different people I didn't request. Pretty much zero interaction, it felt like I walked in on maybe a bad day? not everyone bats a 100, right? used different colored nail tips, and never asked me to wash my hands, I really wanted my nail color to be specific. Usually the nail technician will work with you on what colour your want, nope. I felt so rushed, with zero input. I just felt ike I walked into a completely different salon than I did 8 months ago. Like.. I wasn't wanted there? But, I digress, The nail tips are not the same length, they are bumpy, and the nail polish is streaked. But i have a steady hand and can give myself and almost passable manicure, It looks exactly like that. But again I need to reiderate, i have had about 30+ great experiences at this place. So I don't know, I'm hoping its a fluke, but I don't have 75 dollars to be dissapointed again... Im going to be an off costumer from now on. But I do hope the best for this business, there are some really incredible artists and workers there, I am just incredibly disappointed by this particular incident. Sorry. read more

I came for a quick shellac removal and new application on my lunch break, the tech was pleasant and efficient, I was happy with the service and the overall result! Nails looked great and the shape was exactly what I wanted! I always use this spot on my lunches ( nearly 8 years now) and haven't had a bad experience yet! read more

Unfortunately the staff here do not seem properly trained. They offer $20 skill level and charge spa / nail tech prices. There are no nail techs here. I've left with rough skin, poorly cut and shaped nails, zero care taken with cuticles and hangnails and very sloppy polish. I've been burned here too many times. It has been ONE DAY and my nail already BROKE. I had an appointment yesterday to get my nails done for prom, I wanted a pretty simple look. The nails look good from afar but they are bumpy and uneven, the tips are not painted properly and there was nail polish all over my fingers after the guy finished. The guy that did my nails was rude and impatient with me, he didn't give me good directions on what to do with my hands and made this an awful first time experience. Words cannot even begin to express how pissed I am that I went here to have my nails done. I've been getting gel nails done for a few months now because I'm a chronic nail biter and it helps mitigate the damage I do to my nails. I usually spend about $60 to have them done and $40 to have them touched up every few weeks. This week I don't have near as much spare change kicking around and so I decided I was going to go a cheaper place and have acrylic nails done, which are usually cheaper to have done and are terrible for your nails. A lot of these cheap little Asian salons will try to pass off acrylic nails as gel nails because they're cheaper and easier to do. So I get there and ask for basic acrylic nails, she asks if I want shellac and I said whatever fine. I asked her to cut them as short as possible, and I said I just wanted a basic pink shellac. She was very very rough, she cut my cuticles twice. After cutting them twice she then filed my thumb nail so rough that it started to bleed too. Pictures to follow. I wish I just got up and left but I figured that was as bad as it was going to get. Despite me asking her to file them shorter many times, she still kept them reasonably long, which I honestly didn't really care about since I can just file them at home. They are very lopsided. The polish is sloppy. She gave me a half assed 15 second massage and then brought me to the cash. It was $75!!! Apparently it's $20 for shellac and the actual nails themselves are something like $40. this is more than I've paid at any reputable salon. I tried to argue with her about the price but she wouldn't budge. I just didn't tip and left. Never again. read more

Spice Nails is a new spa located just within the doors of Scotia Square's Duke Street entrance. Located along my weekly gym route, I've had some time to give it a proper lookover and felt it worth while to report some feedback. Its space is one wide open room. A long line of cushy spa chairs, about 12, sit side by side- tight fit. Privacy doesn't seem to be the intrigue for Spice. Within clear sight of mall goers, clients may get their mani/ pedi with a gawk or two. Of course, there are private spaces for more personal treatments. And while the privacy factor is a little discouraging, prices are not. Very reasonable. An extensive list of services and pricing is located just outside its doors, so its all very upfront. Brazilian Waxes for $40. Regular Bikini for $30. Manicures start at $30. Its all very much a lower price point compared to a lot of the city's spas and salons. Manicures and Pedicures both branch out into a long list of specifics. Things I've never heard of: bio-liquid fill ins, UV gel overlay, solar nails overlay, pink gel fill in, ETC. Sounds high tech! Spa packages are also available ranging from $115-175 and appear to be a good price to service ratio. OH. And if your kid wants a manicure/ peticure... they offer 15% to children under 12. Sweet. So I guess it depends on how much you want your privacy. The spa appears very clean, crisp and of good product range. It does have 2 other locations around Halifax, so they must be doing something right. Some may prefer to head somewhere a little more reclusive, but if you are serious nail addict, this might be a quick and easy fix. read more

I have never had such a miserable massage experience. I'm not sure if the woman was even qualified to do massages. I just spent an hour lying on a table getting oil poured over me and have my hair pulled CONSTANTLY. There was so much pressure applied to my neck that i left with a migraine, and one side of my neck is sore and I can't look in that direction. My hair is also coated in massage oil and is a tangled and matted mess because she repeatedly pulled it and scrunched it. I cannot even run my fingers through it, it is completely mangled. My face is covered in oil, and there was no attention paid to any muscle in my body because she spent all her time pouring oil on my skin and pulling my hair. I am absolutely LIVID. read more

So I walked in with no appointment and they were kind enough to serve me. A straightforward manicure. No gel, no shellac, just the plan old shape my nails and paint 'em. I had my nails done around 3pm the day before and I went home. They filed one nail incorrectly and basically it was rough, caught on something, and tore my nail. So I went in about getting a refund because I'm unhappy with the finished product. Was told no and that it was my fault for breaking my own nail, that I have soft nails, etc. That's funny, because that nail has not broken before. Anyway, she offered to file that one nail to fix the issue. Um, my nail had literally ripped in half. Filing isn't going to fix it. Anyway, I left without a refund and went home to cut my nails as short as they'll go, soak off the polish I had applied literally less than 24 hours ago, and do what I can at home. I only went into this place because their price is $25 compared to The Head Shoppe's $60... yeah, just go to The Head Shoppe. read more

This little spa is a typical prototype of mall-based nail salons. It features the characteristic open-concept layout where nail-care clients can converse with each other while having their hands and feet pampered. (After a few trips here to get my nails done, I've found that the workers here are not that fluent in speaking English, so it's especially nice to be able to socialize with other clients) The staff here are very competent, and pay special attention to the finer details to ensure the aesthitic appeal and durability of their services. I've had a French manicure with porcelain nails here on a couple of occasions, and each time I've found that my nails have not only looked great, but they have lasted for months without chipping or necessitating many major upkeep. I also got a cute little flower airbrushed onto my toenails after a relaxing pedi, which was something I've never tried before (I didn't really intend on having it done, the esthetician just sort of did it- looked great though, so I didn't mind it). Spice offers waxing services in a private room near the rear of the salon. As of yet, I have not tried their waxing services, as they seem a tad pricier than what I would expect from a nail salon of this caliber. (If it's any indication of waxing skill, the estheticians I've had at spice all have great brows, so if I'm ever deperate for a brow wax, I just might consider coming here...we'll see) Bottom line: There isn't really anything mind-blowing about this nail salon- it's essentially like any other venue. Today, I had a morning appointment for a pedicure at Spice Nails in the Bedford Place Mall. This was probably my 10th time at this salon. Today I can honesty say that I left embarassed of how my freshly pedicured toes looked. The nails were cut so short they actually hurt. The polish is messy and as soon as I complete this review, I will redo the polish myself. I've witnessed the owners and workers here demonstrate a total lack of professionalism to others in the past. I've always chalked it up to language barrier. "You have very ugly feet" he said to a woman next to me one time. My daughter has had Gel nails 2x in the past six months from Spice nails and they didn't last a week either time. Today when I was paying for my service, I told the male employee that I've always had good pedicures in the past, but today wasn't great. He say "Then don't come back." I had to ask him if he was being serious, he said "We are busy, we don't need you. Don't come back". I WAS FLOORED! Ive been a loyal customer, always a good tipper, never complained (even when they were rushing so fast that it didn't look so great). Keep in mind, I had an "Appointment", and I was kind and thought I was doing him a favour to let him know that the new girl wasn't doing a great job. Apparently, he doesn't need my business so I will gladly take it elsewhere. The only thing they value here in your money, do yourself a favour and treat yourself somewhere where they value sanitary practices, good work, and customer service. I just had the most horrible "manicure" experience at Spice. Let me explain. First of all, the man who did the manicure had REALLY unpleasantly looking nails, I had to look away in order to go through it, and on his left hand he had a long yellow nail that he was using to scrape off the nail polish off the skin that is near the nails, it was so disgusting, I still can't get over it. Secondly, my nails look exactly the same like nothing has been done to them except for the nail polish that is applied so unevenly, (I needed manicure because I have super important job interview tomorrow), it's actually bizarre but I think it now looks worse than before, I could have done a better job myself (I wish I did). My expectations weren't incredibly high, but I didn't think that my experience would be as bad as it was. I went in for a basic manicure and left with nails that looked as though my niece had done them;however,misshapen nails and cut cuticles were the high points of the experience. Further adding to my discontent-watching one of the nail technicians eat her lunch on a station and seeing dirty tools placed back in a drawer. I will never return. read more

A decent place to get a serviceable pedicure on short notice for sure. Everyone is very pleasant and you probably won't find a cheaper deal in the city - standard pedi runs $32.50. That includes a foot soak with jets, a massage chair that does all kinds of crazy vibrating things, a foot scrub with a tough brush and a pumice stone, lotion rubbed into your legs, feet and cuticles, and a general tidying up of your nail beds before polish is applied. Two coats of a colour of your choice and a top coat for staying power. read more

They did an okay job. I got basic nails with one coat of polish and no design. I asked for a pretty simple design (just a few lines) and they told me they couldn't do it. I ended up paying 93$ for a set that okay and not what I wanted. Super expensive for okay nails. read more

Don't do it! I went in to get Shellac removed and get just a plain manicure with clear coat. Whatever chemicals they used absolutely RUINED my nails and they all broke off right at the quick. And they keep breaking off as they grow. I have had to put bandaids on the ends of each finger for the past 3 weeks. I am pretty tough but this is definitely one of the most painful things I have ever been through. I can barely type, wash my hair, get an ice cube out of a tray etc. Remember - this type of business has a different license than most spas and professional hair stylists and that's why they're so cheap. DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY AT THIS PLACE. I went in on Friday to get a pedi and eyebrows waxed.Bad idea.They did not do a good job on the pedi.It now takes me 20 minutes to re-shape my eyebrows and fill them plus I had to go purchase a good eyebrow pencil and concealer to look normal again.Its that bad people.This woman experimented with the wax on my face.So think carefully be4 heading to this awful place. I don't usually go to this salon but was in the area and had about an hour and a half to kill so I thought id see if they had any openings for a shellac pedicure. When I walked they sat me at a pedicure chair and we're very friendly. That's where the fun stops. My feet were expecting more, they clipped my toenails and one quick file and that's about it. However I sat there for over and hour while they ran around and tried to finish multiple customers services. I debated getting up and leaving a few times. Finally they finished up my polish and I was on my way 70$ later. Rip off. I could have sat at home on the couch for an hour soaking my feet in cold water and then painted my own toes - basically all that happened here!! I will never ever go back here. read more

Not worth the 32 dollars it cost me. First of all, the girl (she wore glasses) spent 80% of the time she was doing my pedicure on the phone. I'm used to going to a great place, but Spice Nails was a last resort. The massaging chair seriously hurt my back. but the girl doing my pedicure had set it up so I had no idea how to adjust it. At one point, she had some clear gel she was putting on my feet. She was on her cell, and ended up dropping a big glop of the gel on the floor. So what did she do? She scooped it up and put it on my foot. Not even joking. She also used a nail brush (thats used for scrubbing finger nails) on the top of my foot. Which seriously hurt! I actually flinched but she didn't appear to notice since she was on her phone. The supplies she used appeared to be just thrown back into the little moving storage thing she had. So I had nightmares that I was going to end up with some sort of disease from the unwashed nail file. Spend the extra bit and go to a place where you can actually relax, not have dirty gel put on your feet, not have the threat of infection, or be injured. read more

Terrible service! The staff were rude and they over charged my friend and I. The sign clearly advertised shellac for 30, but we were charged 45 - and when we asked we told, in a very agitated tone, that 30 was only for 'natural nail' and we were charged 45 because we had our cuticles trimmed. Next time, they said, we shouldn't ask for a manicure because that implies we were prepared to pay 45. The staff was rude during the manicure as well. Instead of asking me to move my hands the technician hit me with the nail file. My friend had several bumps and bubbles in her manicure and the staff told her that was because of the poor condition of her nails. The answer didn't make sense and was rudely delivered. I would literally give negative stars if I could!! I went for a back wax in preparation for a trip down South today and was charged $80.50 for a waxing that took less than 10 minutes (I have virtually no hair I just wanted to be smooth). Her explanation when I asked why I was charged $80.50 when the brochure says a back wax is $40 was that she did my back, shoulders, and lower back. I've never heard in my life that when you get waxed that each thing is separate like that. A full back wax includes your full back. When I asked for my receipt and explained that its very disappointing and would like to place a complaint with the owner she proceeding to inform me that I'm not welcome back to HER salon (in the most broken English I've ever heard if I might add) Stay far away from this place! read more

NO STARS!!! I went on July 21 and had a pedicure and a shellac mani. This guy did my nails and they were awful. He cut my toe nails wrong and now I have a big old blood blister. In addition, when we asked how much it would be we were told one price and the final price was a lot more. read more

STAY AWAY! I would give it a no star if I could. This Salon is the most terrible place I have ever had my nails done. I was with my husband on his business trip and wanted to do something to relax so I went to get a mani, pedi and facial. The person for facials was not there so they called her in which was fine so I started with my mani. The person started doing it but was also covering reception and I counted got up 7 times while working on my nails. No problem. There was another person who had been waiting for a pedi and was going to leave so I told my girl to go ahead and do his pedi. I waited about 5 minutes for the facial girl to come in no problem. She started the facial and she spent more time digging through her suitcase or turning the water on full blast. Certainly not relaxing atmosphere. She then told me that I had acne and would have to come back. I'm 56 and have not had a pimple since I was a teenager! I still kept my cool when I finished and was going finish getting my mani-pedi. The girl that did my facial came out and was going to finish my nails and said just colour and I replied no the other girl did not finish - there was still dirt under my nails - she said no only colour. At this point I said I had enough and I was not happy. I left the cash - which the facial girl insisted on - and left. When I finally cooled down a couple of hours later I went back to speak to manager - she did not care that I was unhappy. Her only concern was that I had not left the taxes. OK why do they ask for cash? We all know it is so they do not declare it. Thank God I found Su Nails on the harbour waterfront the next day to get a wonderfully relaxing and professional mani and pedi. read more

Got a shellac application and it took her fifteen mins just to get the shellac I had on off. She did a pretty nice job and was really nice about everything however my nails lasted only three days before they started peeling when I can normally go at least two weeks. Nothing against the staff just don't think the quality was up to par considering it was around $40 when I can go somewhere else for cheaper and have them last two weeks. read more

So I gave Spice another shot, and while it still wasn't great, at least it was better. This was probably the worst nail salon I've been to yet. I called to make an appoint as they were friendly on the phone. Also very welcoming when I had arrived. I got a fill for my nails which not only costed me $70... but not two of my nails were the same length. The nailpolish job was just awful-- missing spots and on my finger. Today I had an appointment for a fill on a gel nail set done by Spice a few weeks ago. I arrived and reiterated the fact that I wanted a fill, being that a fill is almost $30 cheaper than a new set of nails. The man doing my nails proceeded to take off my current set and put on ten new tips. Having never had a fill before I presumed this to be standard procedure, trusting him to deliver the results I had asked for. When he was finished I thanked him and walked over to pay. He told me the total was $65. I questioned him on that, as I was told over the phone that a fill was $40. He told me that I asked him for a new set and that's why he took off the previous set. Being inexperienced with getting a fill done I didn't think to question his method and assumed I would receive the service that I had asked for, once on the phone and again in person. They insisted I pay for the service I received and this I ended up spending $80 rather than $40 by the time it came to tip, which now I'm thinking I should have just left off. The girl at the reception desk offered me a loyalty card, to which I politely said no thanks, I won't be back. read more

Terrible experience which has resulted in two infected toes. I repeatedly asked that he be more careful in cutting my toenails, but he cut so aggressively and carelessly that he cut the skin around my nails, making me bleed. One day later and two toes are infected and I may need antibiotics. Worst pedicure of my life. Do not go here! read more

Went to spice nails in Halifax feb 21st. I got a set of gel nails with gems. It's not even a week that they're on and they are chipping off and two nails are bubbly. I will never go back to spice nails for as long as I live. They way over charge you for what you get. AND it takes almost two hours to put gel nails on!!!! I told the lady after an hour and a half that I had to be somewhere at 4. She didn't seem to care much because she just went even slower. Someone came in wanting to get their eyebrows done and she stopped doing my nails to go do them! I must add that there where two other people working that could have done them instead of her.... but she obviously didn't care about me and didn't mind me waiting even longer. I have been getting my Solar Nails done for just about 10 years, so I have an good idea the one star I have given. I have been here three times. My last fill on solar nails ($46.00 for a fill yikes!) was the worst I have ever seen. Some of the whites look transparent, you can totally see the fill line. When I advised that it did not look good, I was given the reason that the tips are whiter. That is not true as all of my nails would look like that not just some of them. It was just done poorly. I wish they wouldn't lie and just own up to the poor job. I will never go back. read more

Customers beware I had the worst experience of my life at the place. My nails were disgusting not done properly at all. First she talked me into uv gel nails, I said ok, my tips were not straight she then told me I had crooked fingers she did not want to straighten them and after she tried they still were not straight, then she applied the gel over my sanded nails without dusting the off very well, after this she applied the gel extremely thick leaving huge air bubbles and bumpy nail surface, upon finishing i look at my thumb nail and see a huge smile line through the whole nail looking like a giant chip i show her and she tells me its the gel go home and then come back tomorrow and charged me 57.50. I paid very unhappy and displeased but she had shown no intrest in fixing my nails nor did i much want her to fix them after the terrible job she did. After I left I immediately call spice nails bedford tell them what happend and they said they would fix them and said nothing about paying more they just told me to bring in the reciept. I drove to the bedford location they tell me i will have to pay to fix them since they have a different owner and they havent changed the name yet and spoke very poor english so I said fine, shetried to fix them as best she could but still couldnt get the smile line in my thumb out or the airbubbles so she painted a flower covering the major flaw but told me the gel was done so bad she wouldnt be able to get all the bubbles out I paid 15 $ plus tax and I left. Feeling very ripped off and like my business wasnt appreciated i returned the next day for when the scotia square location opened with reciepts to show her I was unhappy asking for either reimbursment or a gift ceritificate or something to compensate my troubles in turn she got very mad at me said she said she would fix them i said i was so unhappy i didnt want her to touch them and i went to the other spice nails which she tells me her brother owns both stores and she wont do anything and started getting very verbally aggressive telling me to shut up and i get nothing and she says i said nothing the day before which i did referring to the smile line and how I said they were not straight she then replies who witnessed you tell me this, just herself and her family and there for she doesnt have to do anything , she then proceeded to try and LOCK ME IN THE STORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and call security on me i said do it i did nothing wrong but my mother standing outside the store managed to jam it open before she could lock me inside and said lets go to security so I went to crobie propety management at scotia square reported her business and to scotia square security . I WAS IN TEARS so upset and felt like my business ment nothign did I mention this happend before I went to work myself. All in all worst customer service experience of my life did i mention i am a hair stylist and deal with customers all day and would never treat an unhappy customer like this EVER!!!!!!! save your money and go elsewhere. I wanted to treat a visiting friend to a manicure, while sticking to a budget. We both came in and looked at the list of services and both decided on a French Manicure (listed under Manicure services as $22). We were seated and told to wait, and watched as two nail technicians finished their lunch, spread out over two work stations. They started on our nails, never once explaining what steps they were doing or what tools they were using, etc. They also never made conversation with us, only with each other and in another language, which can make a customer uncomfortable. Now, choosing a "french manicure" I had assumed that white tips would be painted on and sealed with a nice clear polish, but they began using the acrylic nail tips, anf since both my friend and I are new to the manicure game, we stayed silent and guessed that we were mistaken in the procedure they used. They were both a little bit unecessarily rough in their treatment of our nails, but that was ok. When I chose to have a colored tip, the technitian pushed me to choose a kind of polish I did not want, because of the price. When I declined and opted for another kind, she insisted again and again on the other, more expensive one. Through the rest of the treatment, she did not look up at me once or say please or thank you or exchange any other social pleasantries. When it came time to pay, my friend and I were both charged $55! We said we had asked for a French Manicure, which cost $22, but the women insisted that we had asked for a full acrylic set with a french tip. No, if I had asked for that, I would have been ready to pay $55. They argued that since this is the service they gave, they simply could not charge us the service we CHOSE and we THOUGHT we were being given. My friend and I paid and left. We were not told goodbye, thank you, or given a smile. We will not be returning. read more

i had manicure/ped done here couple of days ago...as said, it was just ok...the polish was put on fine, but as far as getting rid of dead skin on feet (for lack of better way to put it lol) that didn't happen..nor did they do anything special on hands..i get manis/pedi/s all the time in Abu Dhabi..cheaper and MUCH better quaility! read more
