What variety of everything! I was overwhelmed navigating through all the beers and IPAs to find ciders but found some local ones. Can't wait to try them!

We love Spike's! We love the owner, he always makes sure to have every possible thing we could ever want even special requests! We especially love when we can catch Spike I have personally frequented this liquor store since I moved here and the owner, Kevin, has known me by first name since I first walked through the front door. He's ordered beers for me and knows my favorites. Last I checked he has the second highest amount of beer selection in the state of California. All hail. Come see for yourself!!!! read more

If the sign says $10.99 it probably is really $13.99. They have plenty to choose from but didn't have one common item you can buy everywhere. Maybe they should concern themselves with dusting off some of those old bottles on the shelf. Especially for a store that nickels and dimes you on everything. I only discovered that I also got charge; a 3.5% customer service charge?...After looking at the receipt because I was told a lower price but then really charged a higher price. I ended up spending $5 more on 2 items than any other place in town including some restaurants. Forget this place, customer service sucks and the only thing you get out of Spikes bottle shop is ripped off. If I knew I was also getting charged an unannounced service charge I would have just left and went somewhere else. Shame on you! I am not going to be a customer at Spikes or any other of this owners establishments. In response to Kevin J: That's great you have some signs, you have a lot of signs, I'll just go to places that I don't have to read a sign to know that I am being nickeled and dimed, and again I saw one price ,was told a higher price and actually charged even a higher price. I'm sorry you can't keep your costs down. Re-read the 1st sentence: "sign says $10.99 sold for $13.99..." plus crv, plus tax, plus fee. Regarding customer service: 1. Clean up the very dusty shelf items. Remove items in middle of floor walkway that just don't belong there. 2. The dog that use to be there was nice but I found it really annoying being barked at and having to step over the dog and leash. 3. When the clerks like to have long discussions not having to do with anything about selling liquor and other customers are waiting. Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with a conversation, but it really sucks to have to wait for something that has nothing to do with why anyone is there. 4. When I ask for the item you didn't have after looking and told its in the corner left fridge, but it is not and have to ask "are you sure? do you not have it," only to find out you don't have it because it "doesn't sell??" I mean there are some empty shelf spaces and everyone sells it. Nobody was helpful or went the extra mile. 5. When I asked the clerk in this case about the overprice when it has label everywhere for $10.99 but not a single label for $13.99 that is misleading, they didn't care and claimed they would let you know. Did they let you know? Because the only reason I just may go back, is to take some pictures of your signs and pricing tags for the AG to discuss with you. Again, Nobody was helpful or went the extra mile. 6. I was obviously paying with a credit card why did the clerk tell me the wrong price, maybe I would be willing to dig some cash out? According to your receipt " CUSTOMER PRICING NOTICE Subtotal below includes a 3.5% customer service charge which is applied to all store sales" So why was a told a lower price than charge when "ALL STORE SALES" have this charge and it is only discounted when paying cash. The $0.00 Thank you charge is cute, but the 3.5% charge is not even itemized on the receipt. The Subtotal DOES NOT ADD UP. Again, Nobody was helpful or went the extra mile. My impression is they didn't even care at all. 7. I don't need to call you to discuss it further. Not sure what "()/!& you." means, hopefully it was either typo or a new positive emoticon. The bottom line, there are other very fine liquor stores in town that don't give an excuse like that for why they charge so much more and nickel/dime you. The right way to address your card issue is to charge the credit price upfront and then give the cash discount. Many places just charge up front and never give a cash discount. Don't you think it would be a good idea that your customers see them getting something instead of just being charge even more? It's really that simple I'm going somewhere else and just think people should know. Nobody was willing to help recently and I only had 1 clerk in the past even try to go the extra mile. I at the very least appreciate your follow up....I think...so I up'd you to a 2 star. Still not coming back to Spike's Bottle Shop. read more

When in Chico, you have to check out Spike's Bottle Shop. It's a Beer Lover's paradise that features hundreds of bottles, cans and cases of different types of beer, wine, liquor and spirits. We were up in Chico for the Christmas Holidays and found so many unique bottles of beer at Spike's. Not only did they have seasonal specials for local and domestic beer, they had some of my favorite imported Belgian beers like Delirium Noel and St. Bernardus Christmas Ale. The selection was so vast, we easily spent about 30 minutes picking out and ended up buying quite a few. With the holidays around, we decided to buy some as gifts and others to share with family. Definitely a great place for beer lovers who are always looking for something new to try. read more

Hands down best beer selection in town and at VERY reasonable prices. I am a huge stout fan and they had vintage stouts you can't find anywhere else, not even in the Bay Area. I can't wait to come back this evening to stalk up on some very very good beers. read more

Granted Chico is a small town and we get to know each other but I had an opportunity to ask the owner for recommendations given a specific budget to use as Christmas gifts for my team. After a short wait with three dots on the screen I was presented with a full list of names of quality liquor that fit my criteria and my budget. I can't believe the variety of liquor they stock. I go there mainly for the Crush Restaurant butter cheese spread another local company. They both are the best. Great staff and the friendly dog greeter is a big plus. Really can't say enough good about this business. read more

Seriously great selection of craft beer. Spent at least 30 minutes...and I'm pretty focused on dark beer/stouts so that's saying something. The woman working that day hadn't been there in awhile and when regulars would come in they greeted her warmly, welcoming her back. She was really great with us as well. This is a must-stop if you're looking for craft beer. I'll have to go back when stout season is truly in full-release and see how they're doing-then I can add that 5th star! read more

Excellent selection of craft beer. Customer service is right on. I am from Maine and was looking for local IPAs I can not get back east. I think his name was Kevin, accompanied me through the store recommending beers. I picked some good ones even a couple of trial brews. One from Berryessa, Double Tap IPA is very good. Dear Customer Relations Team,…read more I am writing to formally report a very disappointing experience my parents and I had at one of your BevMo! store locations today. My father was attempting to purchase a bottle for an upcoming wedding. Although I was not purchasing any alcohol or making a transaction, the cashier insisted that every person in our group present identification. I explained that I am 32 years old and was simply accompanying my parents, who are both in their 60s and were the only individuals making a purchase. The situation escalated when the manager stated that it was store policy to ID everyone present and ultimately refused service when I stepped outside the store. As a result, my parents were unable to complete their purchase. We fully respect and support responsible alcohol sales and compliance with ID laws. However, denying service to a legal purchaser because other adults are present -- even when those adults are not involved in the transaction -- felt excessive, unnecessary, and poorly handled. The interaction left us feeling embarrassed, singled out, and unwelcome. This experience also raises an important question: if a minor enters the store with their parents, would the parents be denied service as well? If this is indeed the policy, it would be helpful for customers to see it clearly posted and explained before reaching the register. We are long-time customers and did not expect to be turned away in this manner. I hope this feedback will prompt a review of how this policy is enforced and communicated so future customers do not have a similar experience. I would appreciate a response regarding this matter. They block the sign that are supposed to show you the charges on the counter under the 2 for 1 dollar meat sticks. If you love beer, Spike's should always be your first choice in Butte County. They have the best selection around, and unlike some of the other bottle shops in town, Kevin the owner is a true craft beer fan who is super knowledgable, friendly and has great taste in beer/liquor. I first came to Spikes in search of a DogFish Head beer I couldn't find anywhere else, and after a short conversation Kevin ordered the beer and had it in stock within a few days. On top of tons of amazing stouts, IPAs, Belgium's, lagers and such, my favorite thing about Spike's selection is that they specialize in sour beers. I've never seen such a great variety and quantity of sour beers in any bottle shop I've ever been to! Kevin is a great guy and a hard worker, and he goes above and beyond to engage with and serve the community. Spike's one of Chico's best kept secrets... and I'm letting the cat out of the bag! read more

The first thing that must be said about spikes is the their alcohol selection is amazing. The second thing that has to be said is that the staff is remarkably helpful. If you are a whiskey or beer fan, their selection is unparalleled. If you enjoy wine or other fine liquors you want be hard up either, there's plenty of selection in all areas. Better yet they have the widest selection of ciders in town. Kevin on many occasions has been more than willing to take as much as twenty minutes helping me select just the right bottle of scotch, discussing flavor profiles, making beer suggestions etc etc. In my opinion if you want to try something new, or get great prices on what you know you already love, spikes is clearly the place to go. read more

This place is like beer heaven !! They have everything you could possibly want. If they don't have it they can special order it for you and they gave me a discount for buying the whole case so that was very nice of them. My husband said it was the best whisky selection in town by far so that's a big plus to everyone who is into the liquor stuff. A decent wine selection but that's not what they're known for so I don't expect it to be incredible but they had some good stuff from what I saw. Definitely the only place in chico to shop for booze !! read more

Have you ever looked in your recycling bin and just thought to yourself "I need to add a thousand different bottles to this damned bin!" Well Spikes is the place for you to do just that. They have a HUGE selection ranging from regular craft brews, specialty beers, wine, liquor, that domestic crap that your brother drinks even though you ridicule him every time he takes a sip of that foamy yellow water, to the best candy selection in Chico! Spikes has the biggest selection of craft beer in our area with the most knowledgeable staff. They go above and beyond what most stores will do to keep the beer geeks satisfied and asking for more. If it's possible to get it on the shelf they do. The place is literally overflowing with great beer!! Best selection best prices best place to go hands down!! read more

Another Chico Classic. This is the place to get your party started. Prices are always the best and they are very knowledgeable. Best beer selection. I have found the prices here are as good as Costco on some really old whiskey I happened to need. read more
