I was visiting a friend in town and wanted to find some local ciders and kept only finding Angry Orchard everywhere I went. I saw reviews for Spike's and decided to check it out. So glad I did! Wow! What variety of everything! I was overwhelmed navigating through all the beers and IPAs to find ciders but found some local ones. Can't wait to try them!

Spikes is definitely the best Bottle shop in Chico! They have the biggest beer selection in the area, so it's really easy to find unique beers everytime you walk in. They have a really cool research fridge that is full of random finds that are worth a try if you are feeling adventurous. I highly recommend this bottle shop for anyone that loves beer! You will find what your heart desires at Spike's bottle Shop. Pro tip - join the Facebook page called "Chico Beer Enthusiest / CBE" because the owner is always posting special finds that are in limited supply. read more

I ONLY came in here to check out the cider selection and I wasn't disappointed. There is only so much floor space one can dedicate to one variety of drink and there was some lacking (I really need to find Ace's orange cider) but there was a lot there I'd never seen before. Customer behind me in line saw I was paying $34 for my purchases and asked if I was really paying $34 for beer. First off, cider is far more interesting in beer. Second, I don't need your hillbilly self commenting on what I'm buying. Judging from your look, inability to read the bottle, and method of speech you probably came in just to get some swill to get you drunk. So be aware that people like this may be in there to question your purchases. Star Liquors is my standby favorite and I've never been made to feel uncomfortable in their store like this. read more

Absolute insane amount of different beers. My first trip to spikes I was looking for a specific 'one run only' beer and while Spikes was sold out, Kevin recommended I check out another store that had it. This speaks to a business that cares about happy customers and great craft beer as much as it cares about making a buck. Since then, between that 'customer first' experience, the huge beer selection and great prices, spikes has been my go to for good beer. They also have everything else you would expect at a liquor store, domestic beer, snacks, energy drinks ect. read more

I'm always surprised by how friendly Spike's employees are. They make it a personal mission to find exactly what you're craving. Their knowledge and selection is something you'd expect from San Francisco. Spikes is easily what I consider the heart of Chico's craft beer ever growing community. Not only do they have an awesome bottle selection but Kevin who runs the joint will do everything he can to get you what you want if they don't have it on hand. Do not go there in search of hot dog buns, go there in search of friendship and great beer. Always ahead of the game when it comes to finding new and exciting beers. read more

In a town that has more than enough bottle shops, tap rooms, bars and other drinking establishments, Spikes stands apart. Never have I encountered a better stocked shop, or a more knowledgeable staff. The owner is always willing and able to answer questions and take requests, as well as staying very active in his community. Overall, Spikes is a real credit to it's town and the people who frequent it. read more

Spike's stands-out from other bottle shops because they are willing to try new things. Spike's puts Bud-Miller-Coors beers on sale at prices that are competitive to major retailers. They also carry first-in-town products like 32 oz. cans of Miller High Life. Spike's is responsive to customers and will order you a case of something if you want it. I shop at Spike's because they carry 40 oz. bottles of St. Ides, but I always pick up other things they sell while I'm there. The employees are friendly. read more

I'd give this bottle shop zero rating if I could..the few times I've been here the service is horrible. Beers are way over priced, much better locations to get craft beer at a decent price without the rude uneducated personnel. Will not be back! read more

If you are looking for that extra special beer, spikes is the place. Almost 2000 different beers, many that can only be found here. I've gone to Sacramento and been unable to find liquor stores with the knowledge of Kevin the owner and the inventory that he keeps. Beer is fresh which is important for many beers. Kevin bends over backwards to get what his customers want! read more

Wide beer selection. I always find a beer I want to drink. God positive happy service. Sales floor merchandising usually a mess. End caps empty, not organized, neat, clean at all. It matters a little with low standard store presentation but the beer keeps me coming back. The owner was phone networking warning others and nervous of selling top minors and that "Moe" was in town checking stores. Sounds like he has something to worry about. read more

Okay all I have to say is if your looking for craft beer and you can't find it at Safeway, Grocery Outlet, Trader Joe's, and BevMo then it's going to be at Spike's Bottle Shop!! Hands down has the best selection of beers in Chico! Also the owner Kevin is also an avid and knowledgeable fan of the BEER which is always a plus in my opinion!! Dear Customer Relations Team,…read more I am writing to formally report a very disappointing experience my parents and I had at one of your BevMo! store locations today. My father was attempting to purchase a bottle for an upcoming wedding. Although I was not purchasing any alcohol or making a transaction, the cashier insisted that every person in our group present identification. I explained that I am 32 years old and was simply accompanying my parents, who are both in their 60s and were the only individuals making a purchase. The situation escalated when the manager stated that it was store policy to ID everyone present and ultimately refused service when I stepped outside the store. As a result, my parents were unable to complete their purchase. We fully respect and support responsible alcohol sales and compliance with ID laws. However, denying service to a legal purchaser because other adults are present -- even when those adults are not involved in the transaction -- felt excessive, unnecessary, and poorly handled. The interaction left us feeling embarrassed, singled out, and unwelcome. This experience also raises an important question: if a minor enters the store with their parents, would the parents be denied service as well? If this is indeed the policy, it would be helpful for customers to see it clearly posted and explained before reaching the register. We are long-time customers and did not expect to be turned away in this manner. I hope this feedback will prompt a review of how this policy is enforced and communicated so future customers do not have a similar experience. I would appreciate a response regarding this matter. They block the sign that are supposed to show you the charges on the counter under the 2 for 1 dollar meat sticks. So when I asked a taller middle eastern gentleman with a black bluetooth in his ear, why it's hidden under there he flips out by getting loud with me, "I don't want your money and I'm not playing these games with you. They have significantly improved and their food is almost always good. I believe they hired local chef, Ann Leon, which was a great choice on their part. I love their online check-in which has made it feel like such a seamless VIP experience. Now, I put our names in, monitor the time online, and walk right up and get seated. This is now one of our go-to restaurants because of it's consistency. Food-wise, we often get one of their seasonal salads. I'll usually get their chicken bacon ranch sandwich. Fish and chips are very good. When they have fried brussels sprouts on their specials, get them! Very good. Their fries are so excellent that one time they came out cold and they were still good. I do think they have a flour coating, FYI for gluten free folks. The Hot Honey Pig pizza and the mushroom one are so good. Beer-wise, one of my favorite things is they will serve a half point at the actual half price! If a beer is $7, the half-pint is $3.50. I prefer low bitterness, and if you know anything about Sierra Nevada, they are big on the bitter IPA style, hoppy beers. I always look for the IBUs that are helpfully listed on each beer, and select only the lowest ones. Lately I've been getting the wildflower wheat, my fave. They do allow samples, which is wonderful because I would have gotten many a beer I would not like if I wasn't able to sample first. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, and they have good outdoor seating on their patio that I enjoy when the weather is right. One place I try to avoid sitting is in the bar area. I have admittedly very sensitive hearing and it's very hard to hear our conversation because of how loud it is there. The pizza is unique, it's not quite a deep dish but thicker than a standard pizza crust. Toppings go all the way to the edge. The taste is somewhat buttery, and they have a proprietary spice and cheese blend that is sprinkled on top and really adds to the overall flavor. Cheese sticks are similar to Papa John's or Mountain Mike's in that you get a pizza cut into sticks with a dipping sauce. Their location, although seemingly good for delivery orders with being close to downtown and the student areas, is out of place and it's easy to miss the pizzeria completely when driving by. We've always experienced really friendly service and I love all the different sitting areas they provide. We especially love that rooftop area! What cool views! It's like a Hallmark movie up there lol. The restrooms are clean enough and a great alternative to the port a potties offered at the ice skating rink access the street lol. The coffee is strong and I love their lattes. My kids enjoy their treats and kid drinks, too. Their dad likes it bc it keeps me fr complaining about going to that ice skating rink and that restroom situation. I don't live in Chico, but I'm here often for errands and I like Chico, so I come for random stuff. I also have to do events at the college near enough to this coffee shop, so I make sure to stop in to grab coffee before my work events. I think they should stay open later hours though. Parking is usually ok, but depends on the day and time. It's only street parking. I'm fr the city and my parallel parking skills are ok lol but if you can't, you can always back into the weird spots on the park across the street. I will say- there was a young homeless guy laying down on a couch in that glass middle room thing, kind of chilling, but I think for safety reasons, they should be more on top of that bc he was too close to the woman's bathroom for my comfort. Plus it wasn't sanitary. I know that's not PC, but it ls a factual situation that if it were to become a more common occurrence, would stop me from returning. For now, I love grabbing coffee from here when I'm in Chico a few times a month.

If you love beer, Spike's should always be your first choice in Butte County. They have the best selection around, and unlike some of the other bottle shops in town, Kevin the owner is a true craft beer fan who is super knowledgable, friendly and has great taste in beer/liquor. I first came to Spikes in search of a DogFish Head beer I couldn't find anywhere else, and after a short conversation Kevin ordered the beer and had it in stock within a few days. On top of tons of amazing stouts, IPAs, Belgium's, lagers and such, my favorite thing about Spike's selection is that they specialize in sour beers. I've never seen such a great variety and quantity of sour beers in any bottle shop I've ever been to! Kevin is a great guy and a hard worker, and he goes above and beyond to engage with and serve the community. Spike's one of Chico's best kept secrets... and I'm letting the cat out of the bag! read more

The first thing that must be said about spikes is the their alcohol selection is amazing. The second thing that has to be said is that the staff is remarkably helpful. If you are a whiskey or beer fan, their selection is unparalleled. If you enjoy wine or other fine liquors you want be hard up either, there's plenty of selection in all areas. Better yet they have the widest selection of ciders in town. Kevin on many occasions has been more than willing to take as much as twenty minutes helping me select just the right bottle of scotch, discussing flavor profiles, making beer suggestions etc etc. In my opinion if you want to try something new, or get great prices on what you know you already love, spikes is clearly the place to go. read more

This place is like beer heaven !! They have everything you could possibly want. If they don't have it they can special order it for you and they gave me a discount for buying the whole case so that was very nice of them. My husband said it was the best whisky selection in town by far so that's a big plus to everyone who is into the liquor stuff. A decent wine selection but that's not what they're known for so I don't expect it to be incredible but they had some good stuff from what I saw. They have a HUGE selection ranging from regular craft brews, specialty beers, wine, liquor, that domestic crap that your brother drinks even though you ridicule him every time he takes a sip of that foamy yellow water, to the best candy selection in Chico! Spikes has the biggest selection of craft beer in our area with the most knowledgeable staff. They go above and beyond what most stores will do to keep the beer geeks satisfied and asking for more.
