Last week I had a nasty root canal infection and Dr. Spilman took care of me in a very professional way. To begin with I was visiting from Boston and Dr. Spilman took me in right away. He calmed my nerves and very pleasant with his procedures by describing what he was going to do VERY CALMING. After the procedure, my tooth got better and no more pain. I recommend Dr. Spilman for a quality dental experience. The staff was very assuring, professional and caring. ADORE Dr. Spilman, et. al. Up north, it is easy to find a dentist who works on Saturdays and late afternoons throughout the week. In Florida, not so easy. So the first week I was in St. Pete, I noticed his sign out front and the fact that he had the above hours and I have been going to him ever since. I really liked the secretary he had when I first started with him... she left and he hired another. I personally did not think he would have success hiring not one but TWO great office people but he managed it. I walk in.. I don't have to sign in but I would if I had to and I'm greeted within minutes. I call and I'm not just a name. I get in and out.... none of this waiting around to be seen making you think that maybe somebody is double booking. And how many dentists would not hesitate to submit a design for a crown? Not a great experience unfortunately. I was not informed by the front office that they were NOT IN NETWORK. I paid up front and was only reimbursed a portion. Other dentists that I was calling around same time said: "We are not in network". I learned the hard way that when the front desk told me that "We accept your insurance" does not mean "in network". Another thing, I noticed calling other dentists, is that they inform you verbally, not just on the bottom of some form in tiny print- of the fact that due to the COVID, a fee for PPE is incurred that is payable by the patient and not covered by insurance. Unfortunately, not everyone, like me, understands dental insurance. It's better practice to inform patients of unprecedented charges verbally over the phone prior to the appointment and also, it is better to say "We are not in network" as opposed to a general statement such as "We accept your insurance". After speaking with the practice about my experience, it was evident that they don't care, they got paid already. read more

This is a top notch dental office in every measurable way. More specifically, Nicole at the front desk is efficient, positive and excellent at communication...I will go so far as to say she is the best front desk person I have ever encountered at a health care office of any kind. She was critical in my choosing this office for my dental needs (the person who was doing the front desk job previously simply blew me off, never replied, and did not seem remotely interested in new patients). The whole office just has a "good vibe"...everyone seems to love their jobs. My hygienist was amazing and patient as well. Pricing here is very competitive and very much on target (or below) industry averages...I recommend Dr Spliman's office with all of my heart. Extremely friendly, informed me of all options without regard to cost because I had only travel insurance to cover the expense - he even suggested doing the cheapest option. I got out of there with a completely painless, thouroughly professional treatment for only $70 when it could have cost me up to $1200. Still no problems a year and a half later. Staff is great! 5 Stars is not enough for this office. My family has been seeing Dr. Spilman for 8+ years. He is the definition of "Family Dentist". My now teen daughter was terrified of the Dentist and Hygienist. He and his staff [Ms. Alex] have worked their magic and it doesn't take much to get her to the dentist anymore. They are always kind, compassionate and easy to work with. They work to be flexible with dental emergencies...which is how I found Doc to begin with. I was 6 months pregnant with a broken tooth and my regular dentist at that time could not see me for 3 days. Doc fit me in that afternoon. I never looked back. My daughter was born and has come with me to almost every visit since then (I didn't want her to have the same fear as her sister). Very happy with Dr. Spilman! He is a conservative, honest, and talented dentist. I went somewhere else for an "introductory exam and x-rays" and was told I needed over $2000 worth of dental work. Skeptical that I was being baited and switched, I went to Dr. Spilman because he treats my son, and he told me that all I needed were a couple of cavities filled and a good cleaning, at 75% less than what the other dentist quoted. I went to Creating Smiles Dental and I was told that my treatment plan was going to cost more than $20.000, including 9 root canals that I didn't need and fillings in all my teeth, seriously. I knew they were trying to rip me off (crooks!) so I decided to escape those scam artists and find another dentist, I am glad I did! Dr Spilman told me that I just needed a cleaning and 3 fillings.
