Since I've been coming here, I've actually had three different dental insurance plans. I would say there have been at least 4-5 visits where I have effectively "overpaid" for services whereby I would either have to request a credit card refund, or I find out months later that I have a "credit" on file. This isn't right, period! I don't want to "overpay" for services and end up with a credit for future dental work. That is what an FSA/HSA health plan is for. The billing department alone is the reason for subtracting two stars, and could likely end up being the reason that I start to consider finding another Denstist, especially since my original hygenist (Alesia) has left so that she can pursue dentistry school. My advice would be to make sure that you are your own advocate, especially when it comes to paying for services. Check with your insurance company directly, and get an exact estimate. Don't get tricked into paying a high "estimate" and then end up having a credit on file.

I had received my previous cleaning six months earlier at another dentist. During the visit, the dentist noticed an older filling and asked how long I'd had it. Although the filling had been there for years and had never caused any problems, she recommended replacing it. She then told me that once they removed the filling, I might need a root canal. This made no sense to me. The tooth was asymptomatic, the filling was functional, and I had no indication of infection or other problems. That was several years ago. The original filling is still there, still causes no pain or sensitivity, and I have never needed a root canal. Recommending removal of a perfectly functional filling and warning that doing so might lead to a root canal left me feeling that the recommendation was financially motivated rather than medically necessary. The entire experience felt like being in the Twilight Zone.

Of all the local providers that were in network for my insurance, Dr Mang's office had the best feedback. I have overall had good experiences so far. I went in with the goal of finally fixing a front tooth that I broke in half back in 2004 that was getting darker over time. Before tackling that I had a series of smaller fillings and cleanings and things just to make sure I was in the right hands. The office has several dentists on staff (I think I've had all of them work on me at this point) and I really really love Dr. Ware. She is an absolute perfectionist, and when it comes to your front teeth you really want perfection. I wanted a zirconia crown for both durability and better color coverage. Those are lab made and have a week and a half to two week turn around vs same day porcelain. My temporary crown was not a great color but it was only there as a placeholder and I wasn't concerned. She revised the crown once it arrived as the color was off a little bit and the lab missed the notes on wanting to keep my center gap (I would rather have symmetry). I managed to knock the temp out a couple times in the midst of back to back hurricanes but by the time the final arrived I hauled ass to have her set it in and I couldn't be happier. It really looks like it belongs in my mouth. The front desk staff are fantastic. I love the text hotline and have used it to change appointment days/times because I find it easier than phone calls. The hygienists have been fantastic too. No one was too rough or too gentle on my teeth. And the waterfall fountain in the front office is a pretty sweet touch for those with anxiety about being in these offices.
