We chose Spinelli's in Comfort, TX because it's such a beautiful and unique venue -- the indoor setup is elegant, and we love the charm of Comfort. Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to expectations. Right before our wedding, our coordinator was replaced, which led to confusion over prices and our chosen menu. We met with the new coordinator and the owner, who assured us everything would be honored as agreed. (A meeting we requested) However, on the wedding day, tours of the venue were happening during our private, paid time. The new coordinator was noticeably rude to some of our guests and to our family member who was working security -- who happens to be a police officer. When dinner was served, it wasn't what we had selected. Our coordinator was made aware and to this day we have not received even an apology. Communication leading up to and during the wedding was inconsistent and frustrating. Additionally, the taxes and extra fees increased the total cost enough that the venue was no longer as affordable as advertised, which felt deceptive. Spinelli's has so much potential -- the space itself is stunning -- but our experience was overshadowed by poor communication, last-minute changes, and unprofessional behavior. read more

It is a historic setting but very small. Although some would like the rustic appearance, it was not to my liking at all. There was no microphone system so it was hard to hear the minister and the vows that were said. The food left much to be desired especially for me as a pescatarian. I would not choose to use this facility because it would not meet my need. read more

The lady questioned why they were getting married so young. She was also rude about the choices my daughter was making. We recently traveled to tour Spinelli's and were very well pleased by our experience. Even before we had toured, we were already thankful of the manager's accommodation to our tight traveling schedule and from the moment we began communication with them they made us feel welcomed and valued. Of course our experience only improved once we arrived. The location was simply breathtaking. Surrounded by lots greenery, the scenery was more than perfect for the warm and romantic wedding my fiancé and I had envisioned. As someone who had originally planned to have a ceremony outside, I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly I fell in love with the storybook chapel. Its elegant and timeless design truly stole my heart, and I gotta say I'm a sucker for the bell. Throughout the tour the staff went above and beyond to answer all of the many many many questions I had and laid out all the possibilities for our wedding ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. In the main dining hall various dinner table seating samples were arranged, which was a great way to help us to visualize different decor directions we could go in. At the end of the tour we sat down and discussed the menu and bar options and were even given a few samples while we chatted. (Every bite was delicious btw) While we were encouraged to picture our big day at their venue a couple times throughout the tour, I loved that I never once felt rushed or pressured to make any huge decisions right then and there. The venue was OK. I'm coming in as a guest/Wedding Party member and everything is very convenient. From what I've heard, this place is full service, which is always convenient. The big house is really great to host friends, have friends get to know everybody, host an after party after the wedding. You can even really keep bottles or your alcohol in the big house and just walk back-and-forth to the reception to take your own drinks if you have your own special bottles. Many beautiful spaces to set up Photo Booths, props, etc. There's enough space to dance in the middle of hall. Sound carries well and lighting that is great for pictures. The sparkler send off was set up well. They used those long sparklers that last a while so the bride and groom in our wedding was able to do pictures and walk-through three times. Both the brides room, Little make up station, Big house were great. I didn't stay in the venue overnight, but I did utilize the spaces to get ready and there's a lot of space, multiple bathrooms, the kitchen is big and there are enough chairs/seating to accommodate your party as the wedding day and preparation goes by. The location isn't terrible but before you book this location, you should know- Bring all your food in, don't rely on going to any stores or restaurants, Uber, DoorDash or what not. There's not a lot of places to eat or shop in comfort. It's a very small, backwoods town and they are not very friendly if you do not blend in to their town. There was sufficient parking, no EV chargers. If you're looking for electric, EV chargers, the next is Leon Valley, Bernie or Johnson City depending on where you're coming from There was not a lot of airflow in the chapel so it was very hot after just 10 minutes of being there There's a lack of diversity in the town itself so it's a little scary if you are a person of color. Just make sure that you drive in, have everything you need and drive out. It's a hassle to have to stay 40 minutes out in San Antonio but you'd probably be better off staying in San Antonio than in any of the smaller cities surrounding the city. read more

BRIDES BEWARE. At first I was so excited to have found this venue. The chapel, reception space, and on-site accommodations seemed too good to be real when I signed the contract... boy was that true! The price is affordable, but the manager (Pedro) sent me 2 different invoices trying to charge me different prices AFTER I signed my contract. I had to forward him our previous emails with the contact and then screenshot and re-send the prices listed on the venue's website in order to make sure I was getting the correct price. When we did our final walk thru we talked about having the decorations (fake flowers, candelabras, table, etc.) in the chapel removed and Pedro told me that was no problem. He did not mention any additional price for the removal, nor was that listed in the contract but THE MORNING OF MY WEDDING he strong armed my father out of $250 for him to have someone take them off the stage. The kicker was he didn't even have all of the decorations removed! The candelabras and table were still there and my bridesmaid had to do it for us. During the initial consultation I was told that we pay a fee and that covers the beer, wine and bartender and everything over that fee we settle at the end of the night. During the final walk thru my fiancé asked about liquor being served. Pedro told us if we purchased our own liquor he would be able to serve it. Due to the increase of guests (now over 100) the bar fee would increase from $500 to $795. Again, THE MORNING OF MY WEDDING, Pedro tells my fiancé that there is no beer or wine because he claimed we would be bringing the entire bar. When asked what the $795 for the "bar cost" on our invoice included Pedro said it covered the plastic cups, ice, and bartender. We had to have a family friend go to Costco 3 hours before the start of our wedding to get the alcohol needed so our guests could enjoy an open bar. There was a line item for "coffee and soda" on our invoice, which was supposed to supply separate soda from the bar. The only soda available was poured from un-refrigerated liter bottles and was used for both non-alcoholic and alcoholic soda servings. We were charged twice for sub-par refreshments and couldn't do anything about it because it was the day of our wedding. The accommodations are convenient, but include zero amenities. There were not enough towels for everyone, dead cockroaches in the Rectory House, sticky floors, poor plumbing, no cooking utensils or items (e.g. pans, baking sheets, pot holders, etc.), no coffee machine, and poor lighting with burned out or almost dead lightbulbs. We gathered our trash, but didn't have enough trash bags or any cleaning supplies to tidy the place before check out the next day at 9:00am. There is no welcome binder or information for what is expected at the end of the stay nor where to take the garbage. While we were packing up another bridal party was arriving to a dirty house, which begs the question of whether or not the sheets on the bed, houses, kitchens, and bathrooms were even cleaned before we got there. During the wedding reception, Pedro was the bartender not a hired professional like he implied. He made lewd comments to a few female guests and also proceeded to sell the venue's beer (which he originally claimed had no alcohol) for cash even though we had brought alcohol for an open bar. Cash tips were also paid out to Pedro since he was the bartender. Overall, I couldn't recommend this place for an afternoon brunch let alone a whole wedding. Our special day was marred by the unprofessionalism and crude behavior we experienced. read more

We just had our wedding this weekend at Spinelli's to be honest it has been a roller coaster. They told us everything was included in the Venue Price when we signed contract and then 10 days before our wedding we got a 10,000 bill for everything like the glasses that go on table chargers,candles and linen and items i feel should be included when told everything is included in price when signing. so we used outside catering which i told Elaine the manger of venue multiple times we weren't using them for catering and then 48 hours..maybe i repeat 48 hours before wedding called the BRIDE of wedding and told me what are you doing for plates and silverware and i was like you told us on multiple occasions that they were included. Another thing Elaine the manger is not very friendly to the customer of venue who is paying for this you would think they would do whatever for customer needs anytime i asked for something it was always push back and or you never told me this .. we were rushed every time we went to look at venue,30 day walkthrough and when we did the rehearsal and be very CAREFUL of LABOR CHARGE very big expense all of sudden.. just make sure you know all charges up front because they tried to charge for every little thing 10 days before the wedding.. one last thing is on my wedding days it supposed to be all yours for 12 Hours they brought someone to tour wedding venue on my wedding day.all this being said the Venue itself is amazing very beautiful and very pretty pictures to take. read more

I had my daughters wedding at Spinelli's venue. We had the big house and most of the wedding party stayed there. We rented the house for the day of the wedding and brought wine, beer and snacks for the guest staying at the house. All the young folks had an after party and the end of the night. The service was at the chapel it's was spacious and our guest were comfortable. The grounds of the the property were very nice and well kept. We served a buffet and their was plenty of food and the guest seem to enjoy it very much. We hired DJ their was plenty of space to dance. If you need a photographer I used their recommend photographer. I would definitely recommend Spinelli's venue and recommend renting the big house we had space to rest and chat with friends and family before the wedding. You are going love the chapel. read more

I hosted my daughter's wedding at Spinelli's. First of all, I'd like to say the venue is absolutely stunning. The church has a classic chapel feel and is set-up with everything one needs to create a beautiful wedding. The courtyard is beautiful with a million lovely places to create beautiful photos. There is a vine covered tunnel adorned in lights from which the wedding party can make their grand entrance into the lively courtyard. And Then.... There is the reception hall. Elaine, The wedding coordinator decorated the reception hall so beautifully that every single guest was in awe of the beautiful venue we chose. I could go on and on about how beautiful the place is but I must also mention that we rented the beautiful houses on the property, too. Those made the "getting ready" process and preparations for the wedding go so smoothly. The places were lovely. The groomsmen had one house and the bridesmaids had the other. The food was delicious. 5 stars . All of my guests enjoyed their meal. Dennis, the owner was so much fun to work with. He is reasonable and fair. I can't say enough good things about Spinellis. Victor will give you your wedding packet, have that filled out, and your final walkthrough will be a breeze. Victor and Dennis are both very nice and accommodating. This place, the church, is so beautiful they do EVERYTHING FOR YOU. Their food is delicious. They can cut your cake. Coordinate sparklers. They are truly full service. The city of comfort itself is so quiet and sleepy and sweet and peaceful I truly want to move here. The lodging on site is so convenient too. And you get all of this at such an incredible price. I was able to have my dream wedding and I truly loved every minute of the day, and the days leading up to my wedding. The venue is BEAUTIFUL! I cannot say enough about the cathedral and grounds. The two tastings had us scared because the food was too salty. But, if you tell them not to salt anything, it's actually quite delicious. The problem is management and staff. First of all, the contract needs to be far more detailed, as Dennis will say one thing and Victor will enforce a completely different policy. For example, Dennis encouraged me to rent the Big House Friday & Saturday, stating that we could have our rehearsal Friday (of course scheduled around another wedding) and host the rehearsal dinner there. This was in August when we booked the venue and home. Then, in November, we were advised that we couldn't have the rehearsal on Friday because there was a wedding that day. That made some sense to me, but I couldn't help but wonder why we couldn't have the rehearsal either early or late after the Chapel was no longer in use. Monday, before the wedding, we were told we couldn't host the rehearsal dinner either because that would be "rude." So, we had to scramble last minute to find another place to have a rehearsal dinner without a rehearsal, since most of the bridal party lived out of state. I then cancelled the reservations on the house because everything is a 2 night minimum in Comfort. Early in August, we were told by Dennis that the small house came with the venue and could be used day of, but the overnight charge was $350. When we cancelled, we were then advised we had to pay $200 for use of the small house. We declined. Lastly, we had trouble decorating the chapel because another couple was rehearsing--4 times! I missed out on helping my daughter get ready for her wedding because I had to wait for the rehearsal to end to set up the chapel. Also, the linens will not be ironed. Some were heavily stained, one even had spilled green candle wax all down the side of it. Since they rent for $11 plus 20% gratuity and tax, they should at least be cleaned and pressed. If a new linen is used, they will leave the crease lines in and tell you they can throw it in the dryer, but they do not have a steamer or iron. Isn't that the service we pay for when we rent linens. Oh, and the sweetheart table, they didn't have the right size linen so they just used 2. That looked awful. Luckily, we used a large round linen instead and let it overflow a bit. It is a beautiful venue that is very poorly and unprofessionally managed. Rosie the bartender was terrific though. I think better communication between the owner and manager would go a long way in improving service. Also, DO NOT PUT STAINED/WRINKLED/ILL-FITTING linens on the table that you are charging about the wholesale purchase price to "rent." Sheesh! read more

This place is a beautiful venue, but the owner is a jerk and huge rip off!! I would never recommend anyone to use this venue. First time ever meeting this guy he was late to the meeting and when he got there he said something and laughed about it as did my husband but I didn't find it funny so he looks at me and says "I like him (pointing at my husband) but I dont know how I feel about you" and this is where I should have backed out but my husband loved the venue. My husband and I signed a contract in February of 2019 with all the prices and things on it and was supposed to be married in May of 2020 but covid unfortunately ruined that. I contacted the venue asking for a refund due to a world wide pandemic I could not control and they then told us we could have everything back but our deposit of $975 and when I corrected them and said our deposit was only $900 they then told me I could not get anything back. This went on for weeks and he tried to get lawyers involved. Knowing we could not afford a lawyer, having to pay him, we gave up and decided to just have the wedding there because I was not gonna let him keep the money I worked hard for and not be able to use it (although I wish I had now.) We had multiple more meetings with him before the wedding and every single one he was late to and had an excuse everytime. Our final meeting and final payment day just 10 days before the wedding was awful. We added everything up that we wanted while he went and did his "math" in his office and when he got back, the price was doubled what we had figured out and when we asked why he showed us his adding and he was charging us all his new pricings since covid although we signed a contract for the old prices before covid!!! When I said something to him he told me it is what it is and thats what he charges now. So what he originally told us was gonna be a little over $8 grand turned into a $12,000 wedding. He also charged 8.25% tax and 20% labor on everything instead of the whole bill! I also paid for 2 security guards for the wedding, that he said by law had to be there, and not one was at the wedding. You also don't get any left over food after the wedding, they take it all no matter how much you paid for. I also just found out today that they were serving minors alcohol at the wedding, not checking anyone's ID'S, and I didn't know about any of it. If I could give 0 stars I would. Not worth losing all that money. read more

Of all the compliments we received for our wedding, the venue was one of the top two aspects that were so highly complimented! The moment we stepped foot on Spinelli's Hill Country Cathedral, we knew it was the spot for our wedding. Beautiful 100+-year-old rock wall chapel for the ceremony, reception on same location with some recent upgraded construction, beautiful landscape, and the drive out to Comfort, TX from San Antonio provides for nice rolling hills scenery. We like to refer to it as our driveable destination wedding. Dennis and Victor were all a big help in making sure that all the details of our wedding were squared away. The day of, Victor, Tori, and other staff had the venue set up exactly to how we described it. And they were all too willing to make a couple of minor changes. Even though there was a wedding the night before, everything was clean and prepped for our wedding. I would highly recommend this place as a wedding venue! Once you set eyes on it, and it fits the overall theme of the wedding, the travel out to Comfort is very much worth it! My daughter married here Sunday, March 5, 2017. I cannot imagine a better experience anywhere. The manager, Victor, is an angel and magician. They handle everything: church, reception, food, limo, bar, etc. We provided our own decorations but they provided everything else. The staff is fabulous. I cannot recommend them enough. This place is gorgeous, but Victor, the "manager" is absolutely atrocious to work with, he has serious control issues. My emcee/coordinator was met with hostility and downright disrespect. Victor completely ignored our timeline and didn't set the tables like I wanted them. The food was absolutely disgusting. I asked the owner, Dennis that morning to set up tables on the patio like I was told during my initial walk through of this venue and that didn't happen. I was also told that I would be able to utilize one of the houses onsite without extra charge, that was a lie. They nickel and dime and also you will get told several things and it doesn't happen, so be aware of that. Also, 2 weeks before our wedding they sent me an $1100 charge for gratuity.....which they DID NOT DESERVE. A tip is for a service well done.....service was horrible.... We planned this wedding for 18 months and Victor almost ruined my reception. Thanks to my wonderful emcee and coordinator, he made it worth it. It seriously pains me to have to write this review, because I had such high hopes. Brides beware of Victor if you do decide to have your wedding and reception here. Recently, I had the good fortune to book the Hill Country Cathedral in Comfort for a wedding. I believe it is now called just "Spinelli's." It is an extraordinary wedding and special event venue in historic Comfort, Texas. We did not know quite to expect until we visited their location, and we knew immediately that we had found the right place. Spinelli's is spectacular...a real gem. Amazing catered food, a charming century-old chapel, spacious dancehall and banquet facility, overnight accommodations and an extensive list of nearby vendors. You can entertain small and large functions at this place. It is clean, and extremely well managed. Speaking of the management, you will find them always available, and perhaps the best thing, the price. If I have another wedding to plan, I will be back to Spinelli's. read more
