To that end, The Wife suggested we try Ida Red's, since what she knew about the place sorta jived with the vibe I was looking for. We made the trip in and man oh man, is there a lot to choose from. From cool to kitsch, from funny to puzzling, Ida Red's has it all. I will confess to Ida's not being the kind of place I would envision myself shopping at, but that's because I'm old, stodgy and a general curmudgeon. So I was pleasantly surprised and amused with Ida's. Overall, a really neat place with TONS of local craft merchandise. Now that I have a better idea of their offerings, I can plan a trip back, knowing what I'm looking for.

This is just not my vibe, I prefer candy stores to look like a cotton candy wonderland, or a Willy Wonka movie, not a gas station from the 50s. I took off some stars because I find the juxtaposition of toys and candy (mostly for kids) and a few more adult items in the store very odd. Nothing crazy, but there are some pinup style posters and a puzzle with female nudity. Also some sodas with pinup style women (Farrah faucet and Marilyn, etc.) Luckily my kids didn't notice any of it, I just think it would be nice to see an end of advertisements objectifying women. You just never know when you might need one, and if you want a soda that taste like bacon or carrot cake... they've got that too. They have candy with meal worms and other insects as well. This is our go to stop for cards, last minute gifts & our annual new Christmas ornament but prices can be crazy. Some things today, even at 50% off were outrageously priced but it was still fun to look at everything. They do have a rewards program but I don't shop there frequently enough to know the benefits of it. Overall, I'm glad to have this place in town! I would shop here more if the prices weren't so high.

We all know those people that it's simply hard to shop for...here, you'll at least find something funny for them without spending a ton of money. They have a ton of stuff and yet they have it set-up in an organized manner even if it doesn't seem like it, the employees know exactly where to find everything. I actually felt bad because some immature teens were messing around with the adult items section in the back...it must be annoying to clean up after them, having to put everything back in place...especially since they didn't purchase anything! Anyway...you can find super random stuff here that you have absolutely no need for yet still want to buy (lava lamps, posters, blacklights, disco balls, blow up dolls..). I picked up a beautifully handmade eyeglass/sunglass sleeve that's both practical and well crafted, and I couldn't resist a bag of the candied walnuts. The store has a welcoming atmosphere, I was greeted upon entering. Indie Emporium = Etsy in real life…read more There were so many crafters showcasing such neato awesome things that, 1) it's hard not to blow a gazillion dollars buying plaid bowties or owl jewelry or Oklahoma-themed T-shirts (Seriously had to talk myself out of buying a set of anatomical print dessert plates), and 2) it WILL make you wish you were a crafty person (Already crafty people are sure to find some inspiration looking at the booths.). But with great craft talent comes great crowds seeking Christmas presents or home decor items; this place was PACKED. I almost lost my mind in the shuffle and press of people looking at the booths. The organizers should consider spreading out the exhibits a little more to make the experience less claustrophobic.

Crafting used to be for old people - not anymore!…read more Indie Emporium is a cute craft show with 60 local vendors. You can find anything from dishes to jewelry. It was my first year going and I was impressed with everything I saw. Admission is $5, which lets you in the whole weekend (Thanks Yelp for the free tickets!!). The first 50 people on Friday got a swag bag that was supposedly filled with amazing things. I wouldn't know since I didn't get one - not that I'm bitter or anything (F.Y.I. Getting there RIGHT when it opens = too late for the freebies. The lobby was PACKED before the doors were even open). Saturday afternoon, they have free crafting sessions (specific crafts to be made/schedule is on their website). Saturday night, they have a fashion show. The only thing I really, really hated was how packed it was. A show like this REALLY needs a bigger space. Often, I couldn't even look at a vendor's booth because there were SO many people/booths were TINY. Luckily, crowds started to thin out an hour into the event. Another downside is parking downtown....hopefully you're lucky enough to find a street spot. If not, you can take a chance like me and park in a random parking lot...and hope your car doesn't get towed.
