By far, the worst nail salon experience...ever. I called yesterday to see about an appointment for an acrylic fill on finger nails & simple polish change on toes for late afternoon. The woman on the phone asked me to "come now". Because I live in the neighbourhood, I said "ok, I'll be there shortly, I will be walking there". When I arrived I was greeted with a snippy... "you called here? Why didn't you come right away"? I was caught off guard & told her I walked as quick as I could to get here should I leave? There was not another soul in the place & I commented as such... she snapped at me saying she had other appointments coming (untrue as not 1 person walked through the door... easy to see why). I should have left right then... always listen to your gut right?! I was directed to chair, another technician sat beside me, roughly grabbed my hand, criticized me for not wanting gel polish on fingers & basically tossed my hands around like they were unwanted chicken bones. The woman changing the polish on my toes wasn't as rough but the vibe was not good from either of them...couldn't wait to leave. Aside from the shoddy customer service, the work was sub par (see pictures taken next day). Also, prices on the website are outdated so expect to pay more. Never again.

Came for a much needed pedicure with my Gf. The salon is not right on the street, but inside a tiny mini "mall" near the back. It's kinda small, and cramped. Not a lot to look at, but we were welcomed in, even without appointments. After a bit of a wait, we were shown to empty spa chairs, and offered drinks, I had a Ginger tea which was yummy. They also had a stack of assorted magazines - which is always appreciated! I asked for the Special Spa Pedicure, but I dont know if I got that or the Deluxe? But whatever it was, it was excellent ! My pedicure was so well done - my feet have never been smoother ! Also loved the colored gel polish ! Stays on really well and is super shiney. Another plesent surprise - when I went to pay it was a lot less then I was expecting ! How nice ! I tipped $7 and we were on our way ! Definatly will return !

Gross flaky dead skin, immediately after a "deluxe pedi" it's a disgrace!

To concur with other reviewers, there's quite a bit of nickel & diming going on. I called ahead to check the price for the service I wanted, because I thought their website may not be up to date. She quoted the same as the website. After my terrible pedi ( more on that later), she charged more than she quoted, so I asked why. She said it was the tax, like I didn't know there's GST. When she realized that I knew the GST was only 5%, not 15%, she changed her tune, saying the extra was for the supplies(?!) which supplies, you ask. She said because they have to use disposable files for each customer, which mind you, are those cheap paper files that a dime a dozen. Nevertheless, when she saw that I was challenging her shady approach, she said "ok, I'll take that off, just for you!" I find that pretty sickening. I had no problem paying $10 more if it was quoted to me properly when I asked, but to nickel & dime the customer like that is insulting and simply dishonest. Now to the pedicure itself, I had what they call a "deluxe pedi" which is supposed to have callus removal and massage. She used a blade and scraped blotches of skin, without actually removing any of the callus, no pumice, no scrubbing or sloughing, not even moisturizing lotion for god's sake. As you can see in the pics which I took right after leaving that place, my feet are super dry and flaky and dead skin all there. In all my years of getting pedicures, I never left a nail salon with such terrible looking feet. Needless to say, I will not be going back.

I just had my nails done there! BIG MISTAKE!!! She filed my nail so crooked she even had to fill it with acrylic! It still looks cheap and poorly done! My manicure was a disaster and my gel polish was applied so poorly you can see the edges of my nails! STAY AWAY!!! The place is empty for a reason!

Yup that's right. A GUY reviewing a mani/pedi business! Never thought you'd see the day right? ;) Well my girlfriend wanted to get a manicure & pedicure on her birthday, so naturally I came along to keep her company, and got a pedi while I waited. Keep in mind, I have NOTHING to compare this place to as it was my first ever experience in a nail spa, but, I must say I REALLY enjoyed it. They took my rough, manly feet and sculpted them in such a way, Michelangelo would be proud. No really.... I could feed you grapes with these things and you wouldn't mind....right? The best part of course was just how relaxing it was. Massage chair was great, and the girl handling my feet was spectacular. It was as though god himself immersed my feet in clouds of holiness. Quite certain I could hear the galloping of unicorns as I experienced a bliss once thought impossible. My ex also enjoyed her experience and she's a self-proclaimed princess. Gets her nails done often, and isn't afraid to say it when the place sucks. The girls in the salon suggested a couple colours for her fingers and toes, and were spot-on with great suggestions. Not only that, her nails lasted a long time without chipping. Needless to say I was happy with my visit. The staff made me feel very comfortable (even though I'm a dude), and we both left feeling very relaxed! I would absolutely recommend this place for anyone in Vancouver!

Been here more than a few times. My nails always come out great. This time I had Ellen. She's so sweet and always wants you to feel as comfortable as possible. Asking if you want water or coffee. I usually have issues with the shape of my nails but their nail it every single time. Bring them a picture of what you want and they will try their best to provide you with the amazingness you are looking for.

    Pink ombre with cuticle treatment

I really enjoyed getting my nails done here. The staff were professional and kind. She really took her time to shape and buff my nails. It also felt very clean and sanitary. Minus one star because I've had ombre done before and the colors transitioned much more nicely...(see pinky nail especially). I'm sure she would've tried to make it transition more had I asked her to though, she was very open to asking if I wanted something done differently

After…read moretrying many different spas and facials as well as several high end skin care lines I still wasn't happy with my dull, blotchy and congested skin. Since I've started going to SKN I've had a few different facials and have made the gradual switch to using most of their facial products line. The facials immediately made my skin feel so much better, moisturized and smooth. I enjoy the calming and peacefulness of the treatment rooms and the professionalism of the staff. I'm sure they're all great but Danielle is my favourite; so knowledgeable, professional, kind and really listens to try and figure out what is best for you. She was able to diagnose and start treating the part of my facial skin I disliked the most right away (melasma discolored skin due to sun/hormones). I am genuinely happy with my skin now. The goal in my mind when I went there was to eventually feel comfortable going without makeup on any given day - mission accomplished! It's no longer something I think about besides when I'm using my products and feeling thankful for them and the hard work they do. I should note one of the things that impressed me the most about SKN was the lack of pressure to buy products. During facials they inquire as to what you use on your skin and appear to try to work with what you've got but suggest a few small changes. I also left my first facial with several samples, which was very helpful as I could see if it was a routine that worked for me (it totally did, very easy). I've also tried their laser hair removal and highly recommend it, minimally painful and again, professional and thorough. Given the quality of the technicians, space, products, service and overall experience I find that their prices are reasonable. They also have an online product store now (pick up or have it delivered) and they seem to have monthly specials on products and services. If you're unhappy with your skin and ready to do something about it please don't wait any longer - just make an appointment. Thanks to the crew at SKN and keep up the great work!

You tell me if this sounds fishy to you…read more I walked in today to simply get a basic mani and before I even sat down the girl at the front asked me for my credit card number. I was confused. I asked her why and she told me to hold my spot. Hold my spot? So, I asked her if she wanted me to come back later?....."No, no...." she said, I can take you now. Now I was even more baffled. I told her I'd be paying with debit and she told me well that's totally different. If you want to book online for next time you come in...it will be easier for you with your CC information registered online. Well, first off....how do you know I'll be back.....secondly, can't I just do that myself at home in the comfort of my own space and privacy? Her approach to getting my credit card info. just felt very out of bounds and forced making me feel very uncomfortable. I clarified to her: I just want a basic mani, paying debit when it's done. What do you need my credit card number for? When she realized that I wasn't into the whole...."let's share private information thang" she backed off. To be honest, at that point I was a bit startled, because just about a month ago I had fraudulent theft on my debit card and Vancouver at the moment is under serious ID theft and credit theft. Once she allowed me to enter past the Welcome matt without grabbing my credit card information, she asked me to pick a colour. Two things happened while I was trying to find my colour at the wall in the back. 1. I didn't find any colour I liked (very limited colour selection) 2. The red flags just didn't go away. It just felt off. I left without getting my nails done. I pick a colour. you paint my nails. I pay debit. We all go home happy. What do you need my credit card information for?

Anyway, I booked my appointment with the founder and owner of the shop, Annik. I chose to come here based on stellar online reviews, that Miley Cyrus came here (she has to know a good waxer, right?), that appointments are offered into the evening and that they have hard wax. Also, the location is convenient for people downtown or taking skytrain. The area is really not sketchy like some others have said. Maybe if you are not used to homeless people or people loitering, but let's be real, that's everywhere these days. I was super happy with the services here. The rooms are private and clean. There is no double dipping and Annik, as well as the woman at the front desk, were very friendly and personable. Annik was a perfectionist with her waxing and made sure everything was symmetrical and all hairs were removed. She checked her work several times during the appointment, which I appreciate. She also worked quite quickly. While waxing is not going to be painless, the pain was very momentary.

I'm a hairy guy and I've had the odd girlfriend in the past raise that as an issue. It was never a…read moremake it or break it issue though but I was always a bit of a wimp when it comes to waxing. I'm terrified of doing stuff that could be painful. But, after hearing how so many do this I decided to bite the bullet in August 2019 and get my first full manzillian. I had read that if people were scared of waxing they should try say their back or upper arms but I dove right in. I read a lot online, spent hours reading about the experience of other men and women. One thing that helped me was advice online that recommended people getting waxed take a extra strength Tylenol when they get up, and another just before the procedure as it helps the system be a bit numb to the pain. But in terms of narrowing down where I was going to go, I think I visited and read reviews of several places in Vancouver that specialize in just providing waxing services, as CoalitionSkin does. And for me, what made CoalitionSkin (aka the PxssyShop) stand out was a few reviews by men and how they said that the hard wax CoalitionSkin used is easier on delicate areas like your testes, pubic bone and yes, even your face. Also, in reading the bios online, CoalitionSkin has aestheticians who have both the training and years of experience in waxing that I felt they'd be able to do a good job. Which they do. Finally, I even found and read the health inspection reports for CoalitionSkin and they've never had any major infractions - and my own experience confirms that the place has always been spotless when I've been their. Booking appointments is easy to do online, where you can select your aesthetician and times in advance. My first time in August 2019 was with Camille, who unfortunately moved on shortly thereafter but she was great at explaining things and helping to position me during the waxing. She also instructed me to breathe in just before each rip of the wax and that helped prepare me. What actually hurt more was the odd time she had to go over a spot again as not all the hair would come out during my first wax. The hot wax stung the raw skin. But not for long. The first time also took the longest. Since September 2019, I've gone to Olivia, who has been great. Each time it's been easier as the hair doesn't grow in as fast or as thick. Also in September I started getting my beard waxed. Olivia does that too. I have always had a very thick beard since I was a teenager. When I trim and shave it away, stubble grows back quick within hours and that made dating difficult as by the end of the date, kissing me would be like kissing razor blades. So waxing the beard has helped remove the hair and keep it away for a couple of weeks where the skin stays smooth. And after having it done four times now it's easier each time. My last wax only took an hour or so for both the beard and Manzillian whereas the first beard wax took a good hour and the first Manzillian over 90 minutes, maybe close to two hours. Having said this though, even though it now takes less time, nothing ever feels rushed, they take the time that's needed to do things properly. Overall I'm glad I chose CoalitionSkin. It costs a bit more, but their aestheticians are well trained, experienced and very friendly and easy going. And I don't find it that painful at all. It's partly a mindset and taking the Tylenol helps I think. The CoalitionSkin website has lots of tips to help you prepare too. And they give great advice for aftercare too, like taking it easy for 24 hours and using tea tree oil as part of your after-wax regiment. Next summer, in 2020, I might try getting my back done, and having a bit of cleanup on my upper arms and chest although I don't think I'd ever get my full chest done. I think Camille said that the men she had waxed always said the back hurt the most but we will see! Anyway I can't recommend them enough. Especially if other men are curious about this, or ladies want their men to get stuff done don't be afraid to check out CoalitionSkin!
