Went to Jewelry Authority with a 7ct, 10k Citrine ring that weighed a little over 4g. They literally offered $93! $93 whole dollars. 10k is going for maybe $68 per gram. Yet, they offered me $93 for the entire ring! How insulting is that? This seems to be a common thing with their business and I'm truly wondering if they only lowball a certain demographic of people. It's bad business and a bad look! Thankfully, I took to ring to a coin/gold business for scrap and they took the stone out of the ring and gave me almost $200 for it. I sold it for scrap more than JA offered! And I kept the stone! So do yourself a favor and avoid Jewelry Authority if you want to get sell your jewelry. You'll probably get more selling it on your own or scrapping it.

I've had this necklace for 15+ years and while I recognize it isn't the caliber of most of the jewelry Schiffman's sells, it is very precious to me. It was mildly tarnished all over as pictured in the photo, as silver this pure doesn't stay clean for long. I was recently laid off and wanted to wear my necklace to a job interview. The red-haired sales girl -- I didn't catch her name -- actually turned her nose up at my necklace when I took it out. She did that judgy little exhale through her teeth and said "It's SO tarnished, I don't know if we can do it. If we can, in that condition it'll be a charge, let me see what the jeweler says" and took it to the back, then came back and said because of the "condition" it'd be $75 because they'd have to "really work" it on the polishing wheel and it would take a couple of hours. It genuinely was not even that tarnished, and a chain like this can't be put on a polishing wheel. You put it in cleaner and maybe a sonic bath. It was clear they just didn't want to do it, which was fine, but there was no reason to lie. I wasn't comfortable proceeding with the service after that. She said I could try getting a polishing cloth on Amazon until I got back on my feet. The whole exchange was insulting and left me crying. Like I said, this piece might be beneath them, but it is everything to me. I would have been more than happy to pay, but the attitude was entirely unnecessary. I took it to a different jewelry store nearby and wouldn't you know it, they put it in a sonic bath and cleaned it, free of charge, in about 5 minutes while I browsed. I will be going to that store for any future jewelry needs, while Schiffman's has ensured I will quite literally never set foot in there again. It costs nothing to be kind and can affect someone's opinion of you for a lifetime. Do better.

I called in first thing in the morning when they opened and inquired about services for two watches. I dropped them off shortly after and discussed prices, services, and different options. The level of transparency and integrity from the staff was impressive, and, the efficient service was convenient. I had both of my watches cleaned and reset (one battery replaced and the other professionally set). All of this for less than $40 and within an hour. When I picked the watches up, they explained details and knowledge about my Tag watch I've never even known. This business demonstrates superior service, knowledge in the industry, and pride in great customer service. 2) Staff I was assisted by Micah throughout the whole process. He was exceptional and the primary reason I would go back and refer others to this place only. He was friendly and listened well, honest and thorough with explaining my options to keep costs down but ensure quality, and mostly, he took pride in his job. I asked a lot of questions and he answered all of them, and through this, I discovered how knowledgeable he is about the business, the products, the industry, and engaging with customers. Truly impressive! 3) Overall My experience was top notch and again, they exceeded all of my expectations. Btw- they never once solicited any information, and I had to ask how to send his manger or store owner some feedback of how pleased I was with his service. Even though reviews on Social media can be skewed, and people tend to only post when they have bad experiences, it's worth me taking 5 minutes to write this, especially when the experience involves great people and employees. I will be returning here for any needs I have and I will make sure I refer all of my employees/customers to Micah and this business. Sincerely, Justin G.

I received a notice about this estate event and it prompted me to inform people about what happened…read moreto me at State St. Jewelers. In June 2023 the diamond fell out of my engagement ring. I took it into State Street Jewelers along with my other heirloom antique family ring. I was having trouble with the antique ring staying stones up because the their weight of the stones and the atrophy of my finger. They showed me various ways of correcting the problem with their best suggestion being the setting that opens like a claim shell with an instrument that opens the setting in half. I was told I needed one new diamond in the antique ring because one was chipped in addition to the new setting to keep the ring from rolling under to the palm of my hand. I also elected to upgrade my wedding band from a band with diamonds going 3/4 of the way around to a full eternity ring with larger diamonds. With the larger diamonds, it was too much to continue to wear all three rings on on one finger so I opted to have my engagement stone placed in an earring setting and bought an addition stone that was the closest stone to match. We pay a lot of money for the new setting, the replacement stone for one that I was told was damaged, a new eternity band with more diamonds, an additional diamond to match my engagement diamond and then to have both of those made into earrings. After all was done and delivered I was happy with the looks. The earring were fine and the eternity ring was fine, Unfortunately, after only wearing the antique ring for a short period of time the clam shell setting popped open for no reason. When it popped open my ring fell off. Fortunately it fell in the car and I was able to locate it. I took it in and they adjusted it. Then it happened again. I took it in again. All of these incidents happened in a short period of time after receiving the ring. I felt that the setting was defective but State Street insisted on doing minor adjustments and returning it to me. In October we moved from Greensboro to Maryland. After arriving the same problem continued to persist with the clam shell popping open with no cause or reason. I contacted State Street and let them no about the issue. I was told that I would have to return to Greensboro to have anything done to fix the ring because they would need to have my finger. I am not driving 7 hours to have them fix a ring that I was having problems with before we left. I continued to wear it a short time after arriving in Maryland until the frequently in which it opened on it's own made it too risky and I have not worn my ring for a year. I am very disappointed that with the amount of money we spent and the problems I had right after receiving the ring. Their only solution was for me to return personally to Greensboro. The setting was clearly defective and should have been replaced after the second time it popped open. All the money we paid to State Street jeweler and I am going to have to pay for a new band here in Maryland. A band that was clearly defective from the start. So think twice about doing business with State Street unless you are absolutely sure you will never be leaving Greensboro. I got a defective band and now the cost of replacing that is going to be on me. To say I am disappointed and unhappy is putting it mildly.

After two weeks of no communication, I went back to the shop to retrieve my items and to take elsewhere. Turns out the only direction that was followed was to melt it all down. The product I was presented with was an absolute mess! Completely unacceptable. When dealing with precious metals attention to detail is key. It took them around thirty minutes to get the ring fully prepared and by the time we got back to the shop, it was all ready to go. We really appreciated how much time she took with us going over everything and seven months later I'm still in love with my ring!

After having another diamond fall out, the decision was made that I needed to trade the engagement ring in, as it was defective in design. It was understood that I was only trading in my engagement ring and that my wedding bands were to be soldered to the new ring. I was told, to trade in my defective ring I needed to choose one double the value of my current one. After picking out a new one, we did the paperwork. In writing, signed by myself and the sales associate, it states that the jeweler, was to resize my new ring and solder my existing bands to it. The whole time I was in the store it was made clear, I was there only to turn in my faulty engagement ring, even though the ring and one wedding band came as a set. I payed a deposit and opened a store credit for the balance. I left the store expecting to pick up my new ring the next day. I received a call informing me that they were taking my engagement ring and wedding band. At no time, was an offer made for me to keep my band. I went back to the store, stated to the manager that I didn't want to give up my engagement ring, but had to, due to their faulty craftsmanship. Giving up my wedding band was out of the question. He became very pious, letting me know to go forward and call higher management, as he was untouchable and my complaints were not valid. He even threatened to kick me out of the store. I've spent 7 years replacing diamonds, making a three hour drive to this store. Then I'm spending more money on a new ring, and he refused to offer a way for me to keep my wedding band. It took over 30min for him to refund my deposit and give me my old set back. I was in the store a total of 4 hours, only to be threatened and have my credit score affected by opening and closing an account on the same day. My signed recipient and paper work were a contract, one they broke and refused to rectify. I later learned (after talking with corporate) that the manager, Mark Phillips "under his discretion" could have let me keep my wedding band. Mark refused to make their wrong right. Over the years of bringing my ring in, I worked with another manager Brook. She was outstanding, she remembered me and my ring, every time I walked in the door. I will no longer recommend anyone to Reeds. And I have filed a complaint with the BBB.
