My husband and I live very close by to Spokeeasy. He has been here with our nephew to have beers on tap after a hard day of yard work. I have stopped by because I needed water for my dogs and they were happy to oblige. Service is usually very friendly. They have a backyard you can eat in. Ambiance is very hole in the wall. My husband always stops by here to have his cooking juice. They have cute artwork on the wall that you can buy from local artists through cash app. Let's get to the good stuff, the beers. I just realized I wrote a review for Spokeasy after having my first beer there in 2015 LOL. Apparently they made an impression because first visit reviews of a business are not acceptable or fair, but I guess I had a feelin (...and like house of pain said, "If you got the feelin, jump up punch the ceilin". Well, spokeasy is the tiger uppercut of blowing the roof off these other sucka taphouses in the No. (Insert corny line eyeroll here ) Anyway, fast forward 8 years, and I can say after stopping in on different days, at different times, in every mood, in any weather, after work, on the weekend, with friends, my girl, or solo...without a doubt Spokeasy is the best local watering hole in Fresno. Ever since the ownership switched a few years back, Spokes has excelled in every possible way imaginable. Jacob, Jared, and Mike continually crush it, both in their selection of styles of beers as well the rarity of their offerings. They opened the back patio to welcome you to "Gnarnia" a few years back. They have 8 taps constantly rotating that bring you the best beers across America and beyond, and the fridge always has at least 20 new beers, even for the most distinguished beer connoisseur in your circle. I've probably tasted over 12,000 different beers and they always have that new new and that good good. There are like 40-50 bottles and cans at any given time in the fridge, and there are no shelf turds. They survived through the madness of covid and stepped up their social media game to keep us all connected during our times of isolation. That example highlights the family vibe that they effortlessly create among the patrons n owners. You feel it when you are there (so much so, I found it intimidating at first). Everyone was so close and friendly, I felt like I was intruding on some intimate homebrew club or something. But that feeling was quickly forgotten and dismissed. I can easily say I have had some of the best "bar fly" conversations with strangers at spokes, many of the folks becoming good friends to this day. I have been given some of the best share beers by strangers, not even being part of a clique or conversation but get a taster just because you are here. I've heard some of the greatest soundtracks in the background here. The list goes on and on.. My only complaint is they need to be on untappd, because when I travel I've found some of the best out-of-town spots based on that app, so the visitors in the No are potentially missing iut on this treasure of a location. This updated review is overdue. Spokeasy has done great adjusting to COVID-19 and all the related restrictions. When everything first shut down, they were only offering beer to go and I was just grateful they were still selling craft beer. Then, when bars could serve alcohol if they also served food, they started selling sandwiches. Since this is Spokeasy and these guys don't do anything half-assed, these are craft sandwiches with quality meats, cheese and bread, unique spreads, fresh greens and just really unique takes on sandwich combinations. They have a standard Pizza Pals with pepperoni, mozzarella and homemade red sauce, but then there's the Mr. Crunchy, their version of a croque monsieur. Get ready a cheesy sammie with homemade bechamel sauce. My husband's favorite is the Gnarnia Business with lots of deli meats and cheese and fresh arugula which they can make toasty. My two favorites are the Poultrygeist , a toasty sandwich with Turkey, ghost pepper relish, and cheese and other good stuff, and Fughetaboutit or something like that which is a vegan sammie with garbanzo beans "salad", vegan cheese, arugula, and gardeniera. All of these sandwiches are sooo good. And I don't have to feel bad or guilty for eating out. There still isn't seating inside which is a bummer. BUT, they've made a little patio in the back that can accommodate 28 or so people socially distanced. Masks are required, of course, any time you are not seated with your beer&food. read more

Went there with a buddy when they were just opening up. Definitely had a nice little crew of regulars and a single man working the taps. A few uprights and a skee ball machine in the back and nice setup with tables in front and back. Deceiptively long, the storefront made me think it was gonna be more like a beerosk (portmanteau of beer and kiosk because I'm clever) but it was definitely well planned out. I'll probably keep checking the spot out to become a regular. There's a lot next door for ample parking but beware it's dusty enough to invite sand people. I was in Fresno for a job interview at the City College. The Spokeasy was around the corner from where I stayed, and I loved the opportunity to try craft beer. Stopped in with my girl on a Thursday afternoon. Nobody was in there except the beertender who was friendly and informative. We each had a beer (I can't remember which) and enjoyed the patio. I have been coming here for years now! Since it has only been open, I think for about 5 or 6 years, I guess I have been coming from the beginning. My brother in law lived right down the street, walking distance, so we always came here, and with my pup Bailey. They provided, snacks, water, have amazing beers on tap all the time, and it is just a blast to come here and chill, watch the game, play some games, get a drink for you put on the board, and have a good time with friends. Nice, great selection of beers. I tried a couple ciders. Expensive for what you get. ($8 for a very small cider) Friendly service. Uncomfortable chairs. No food. After a couple hours, my friends and I were hungry so we went down the street to Ming's, where we got food to go, and came back to Spokeasy and ate it, but honestly that was not enjoyable compared to being able to get food onsite. On a short visit to Fresno I went to check out what people told me is one of the best craft beer bars in Fresno. Technically I'm a wine guy but recently developed a huge appreciation for beer after turning my back on the big breweries of the world. I walked in through an unassuming entrance, thus the speakeasy style name, and was simply blown away. The walls are lined with handles of all the great names and a lot of what you won't know unless you're really into beer. The draft offerings were very unique and I was eager to taste them all. The fridge at the back has some carefully curated bottles and my head was spinning with excitement! I asked a few guys if they would share with me if I got a few bottles and they were most happy to oblige. There were some well known brewers who has limited released that I hasn't even heard of. On the pallet this beyond what you know about beer, think of it as super complexed flavors that keep you guessing the various ingredients. The back room has some vintage arcade games that took me back to my childhood days. The nostalgia alone adds to the charm of the place. The lighting is easy and the folks are friendly. And if you're lucky you might get to state some excellent home made bread - but you'll have to go there to find out! I wish there was such a place in New York. After trying a number of focussed beer bars in the Tri State area (NYC) I can safely say that nothing comes close. If you had a dream about getting some friends together and chatting over some craft brews, this would be the place you would be at. So my friend who said it's the best in Fresno wasn't entirely correct, it's probably the best you will come across anywhere in the world! read more

The closest I've found to a cheers in Fresno, a place I always feel welcome and enjoy everything. Plenty of beer from all over the country for $4 a bottle or $5-6 on tap, plus tons of specialty beers and 22oz bombers. If you care at all about craft beer, this is mecca. It's very obvious that Mark and Ben care more about spreading good beer than raking in cash. More than that, they're always willing to chat and get to know you or let you be, consummate bartenders. It helps that it's not all IPA and APA, which I'm not a big fan of normally. They collect all sorts from all over, with wildly different profiles, often take requests from regulars, and know an insane amount about anything they stock. Every season is stocked up on new releases to match - this time of year is definitely my favorite, with the abundance of spiced ales and holiday stouts. Hell, even if you only like PBR or Miller, it's available. One mistake I made early on: Ordering death by jerky with a friend, which burned so harsh that I felt it for days after. I like the concept of this. Typically when you drink, you are in a giving and kind mood, why not gift a beer to a friend for the next time they come in! Cons: The bathroom. While the messages in the ladies bathroom were entertaining while I was going pee, it left me wondering, "what type of people come here?" Why are you in this bathroom carving out your problems of the world, rather than going outside of the bathroom and just talking to someone!!! I don't think I've ever felt compelled to bust out a sharpie or something pokey to carve out my woes in a bathroom. Don't be a lame, just go pee, have a beer and vent about your first world problems to the bartender! The crowd. I didn't really get a social vibe. Or maybe that was the vibe...just very recluse, stay to your own group and drink type of bar. Which some people may be looking for... This bike friendly bar not only offers over 75 different craft beers at any given time, but also has a fully loaded game room with classic arcade games for a little nostalgia to go along with that beer buzz. Spokeasy Public House offers craft beers in multiple different forms: bottle, draft, and growlers, basically you're not leaving here empty handed. The beer selection does not stop at american borders they offer different types of craft beer from all over the world. I was enjoying a bourbon based craft beer and for the life of me I can't remember what my beer was called exactly. Note to self, always photo stuff when drinking. My time at Spokeasy was short lived and I may been already celebrating before I arrived, so my recollection of Spokeasy is a little spotty, but of one things I did notice and enjoyed was that it wasn't insanely loud and packed with drunken Fresno Frat boys. This is a mellow place, a place for friends to kick back, and enjoy a tasty craft beer. The bar is small, cozy, and if you drive too fast down Van Ness avenue you'll definitely miss this Fresno Gem. Place is very cool. They had a couple sour beers on tap and they've only about 6 taps so I thought that was crazy! Of course they rotate their taps but for 2 of them to be sour beers is saying a lot. I could have swore that I reviewed this place before, but it looks like I haven't!! Came here after dinner with my girlfriend and had a beer, and we remembered why it is that we like this place. They have a good selection of harder to find craft beers, about 5 or so on tap and the rest in bottles/cans. Even though this is a place that you can find some rarer and high quality beers, no one here is all uppity about it. I hate talking to people who are big in to craft beer but act like they are better than anyone else, its irritating. The dudes working here don't care what you like to drink, they will sit back and chat with you all the same, they are all super friendly. Like I said earlier the beer selection is really good, they will also let you bring food in to the bar if you want. They have several classic arcade games that they will, I think, give you tokens for to play. If you get the high score on a game you get your name up on the high score board above the bar. All in all this is a great place to come have a beer and hang out. If you are looking for some super fancy place this maybe isn't your spot, but I happen to think this place is great! read more

I've been to a couple of craft beer bars in town and the one thing I notice that sets Spokes away from the others, is the knowledge and the friendly engaging staff. Jacob, Jason, Mike and Ben are all great and very knowledgeable dudes. They will give you great recommendations to what you're looking for. Went here this weekend after seeing all the great reviews on Yelp. Thought it looked like it was worth a shot. Boy, was I right! Craft Beer AND Skee Ball?!!?! Uh.... I think yes. The bar is very laid-back and casual, but certainly has an awesome community vibe. The bartender was really friendly and offered us some chips and salsa to snack on while we enjoyed our beers.
