Today, I got a flat tire on the river levee not very far from Spokesman. I called to ask them to fix the flat, and he asked if it was an e-bike. I said yes, but it has normal tires. The employee who answered the phone said, "We only repair e-bikes that we sell". I explained that I had a serious flat, and he repeated the same words even louder. I mentioned that I have bought bikes and equipment from them and am a long-time customer. I also asked if he would repair it if I bought a tire, and he repeated the same exact words even louder. I had to walk my bike a couple of miles to Epicenter Cycling, and they repaired it right away. I can't believe that Spokesman treated a customer this way. I will never go there again. The irony is that I tried to buy an e-bike from them back when I was shopping for one, and the one that I took for a test ride had a chain that kept skipping. I brought it back to see if they would fix it or give me another one to test ride, and the employee just shrugged and said that they do that. I left and bought one elsewhere. Other than that, I used to really like the store and the employees. But those two experiences have turned me off for good.

After a terrible experience buying my first e-bike at a shop in Santa Clara, walking into Bicycle Trip was such a breath of fresh air. From the moment we arrived, the staff was friendly, welcoming, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable. They helped us find the perfect e-bike and an electric bike rack , and we felt supported every step of the way. We were so impressed that we even came back to purchase a lock because we completely trusted their recommendations. Their customer rewards points program is another huge bonus--it's a fantastic way to save money! If you're looking for exceptional customer service, honest advice, and a team that genuinely cares about their customers, I can't recommend Bicycle Trip in Santa Cruz enough! Totally understandable but a center has a slightly better plan and that they will accept bikes that are electric just you have to take the battery out of it before you leave it with them. Too many problems with lithium ion batteries, exploding you know? We live in a very mountain bike, happy town here and one of the places that will fix your bike after you wreck it by bombing down Wilder through postboxes and Engleman's loop is a center cycling. They are often backlogged because people wreck the ride and drop them off here. In my experience as of summer 2025 it was about a 10 day wait to get the bike back but my repairs for damaged brakes was under $100 and that seemed reasonable. We also have a sister store over near Ni Marks, which is another great bicycling area the demonstration Forest.

Wow - I just had a really bad experience at ABS. A friend of mine was having issues with a bike…read morethat she had recently purchased there. Even though she used to race road and mountain bikes at the national level, she was nervous about bringing it in because, unfortunately, since she's an older woman, she often gets dismissed and treated with condescension by bike shop mechanics. As a result, she asked me to accompany her since, in addition to also having raced many years, I used to be a bike shop mechanic myself. The way we were treated by the head mechanic (I'm guessing that's who he was) was shockingly bad. He acted like we were two kooks coming in with a rusted-out Walmart bike and refused to answer even the most basic questions. Fortunately, someone else working there saw how poorly we were being treated, spent a couple minutes with us, and diagnosed the problem (which I was able to fix later) - hence the 2 stars instead of 1. I've always shopped at ABS, despite the relatively high prices, because I think it's important to support local bike shops; however, after this experience, it will no longer be a priority.

The staff left us alone to explore their shop and admire the bikes before asking if we needed help. They also had clothes and a nice selection of sunglasses. Unfortunately, for the style I liked, they only had the demo left. They offered to ask their other store or order one, but I wouldn't be able to come back for awhile, so I had to sadly decline.

When I arrived, they helped me unload my bike, which required some tetris-ing to get out the backseat of my compact SUV. Was a bit intimidated when I walked in, since most of the bikes were higher end mountain bikes, or e-bikes. However, Jake at the service desk, was extremely professional, likeable, and treated my old girl like she was just as important as the other bikes in the shop. They even helped me load the bike back into my car. Highly recommend them for their excellent customer service, reasonable prices, and product knowledge. Will definitely be back!
