For an avid bicycling family, this shop has many high end bikes to choose from. They even had Specialty and Woom bicycles in kid sizes. The staff left us alone to explore their shop and admire the bikes before asking if we needed help. They also had clothes and a nice selection of sunglasses. Unfortunately, for the style I liked, they only had the demo left. They offered to ask their other store or order one, but I wouldn't be able to come back for awhile, so I had to sadly decline. read more

Bought a high-end road bike from SVC (a tough to source SL8 ready-to-paint frameset) and they truly exceeded my wildest expectations. Owner Andrew is an insanely nice guy (he spent gobs of time with me and I was able to get to know him a bit on the local noon ride the day I picked up my bike). He's on the cutting edge in terms of his knowledge of all current cycling products and is truly passionate about ensuring customers are 100% happy. This all trickles down, very intentionally, to his sales staff and mechanics - ALL of whom are friendly, knowledgeable and also completely customer-focused. Most bike shops could learn a ton from Andrew about hiring practices and training. While my bike was being ordered (I bought a frame and parts separately), I got great status texts every few days. When I showed up to get the bike and do some fine-tuning on the fit, I was treated like royalty. I was there for a good part of the day (complicated build/fitting) and I was able to observe how staff dealt with customers. From newbie to experienced, they all got amazing service. No exceptions. So many bike shops, especially in the Bay Area, have attitude and treat customers condescendingly (well known fact, myriad root causes). There is ZERO of that here. I've been in the Norcal cycling/road racing scene for 25 years, I've seen it all and my dealings with SVC - from start to finish - really were a breath of fresh air. Great repair and tune up team at this store. They really care about the customer. I took my bike in on a Thursday evening and told them I thought it was just my tire valve that was bad and they fixed me right up. The air was out the next day, so I took it in, and they changed the tube, but couldn't find that the old one was bad, charged me for the new one and now I have an extra tube and they waived the service fee. Quite surprised of the good review here. My experience says otherwise. 1. Purchased the bike online (yes they have bikes) but never received any courtesy calls or tell me when the bike will be ready. I had to call myself asking for status. 2. After I picked up the bike, dropped it off to another shop to install the handlebar. They showed me the stem expander plug screw was stripped and expander plug was not even tight (safety issue). Rear derauiller b-screw were off so the other bike shop had to adjust it. 3. Rear rotor disc was over tighten not to spec. Stripped the disc rotor teeth. Now I have to buy a new rotor and locking rings. A lot of issue found are safety related issue. If they didn't have the bike I'd probably would not shop here. Even if you have to shop here, I would take the bike to a reputable shop to get it completely re-checked for your own safety. read more

During the COVID-19 pandemic, there's been a surge in biking, so local bike shops across the nation struggled to keep any inventory as more and more interest arose. Manufacturers couldn't keep up with the exploding bicycle demand either. The shortage is leaving bike shops with little or nothing in stock. I've been hunting online inventory and making calls since before the pandemic, and finally was able to locate one bike in Scotts Valley. I grabbed on to this opportunity and put a deposit down, then immediately called the store and spoke to Shayne. Shayne reassured me my order went through smoothly. Got excited! My bike wasn't even on the floor yet, as he received another inquiry about it. Scott's Valley Cycle Sport is the only place with inventory from San Francisco to Santa Cruz/Carmel in two years. Yeah I searched high and low! Great store and great service here. My only hope is they don't go out of business. As it happened before, every time I bought a bicycle, they'd close down shortly thereafter. Three for three, three different bikes bought, three different store closures! Off Ramp, Midtown Bikes, Performance Bicycles. Hope 4th time is the charm for This spot. Very helpful employees, Shayne was thoughtful and helped get me set-up right away, tuning the bike to my weight and specifications. Bought some accessories too.. Mia is such a great listener! Down to earth and the only place to go if you're looking for a bike within the next few weeks. I found it interesting that front and back are not the same tire - different grip traction. No front derailleur, and all the cables are hidden inside the frame as much as possible. Not like your yesterday's bikes, LOL. Whoa I haven't seen this in a long time, my bike comes with a CD... music perhaps? No, it's the user's manual ! There's no way I could play a CD anywhere in the year 2021 I'm laughing. I miss riding my bike so much. But I'm sure not taking the chance of crashing and having to go to the ER amid COVID-19. I needed a trainer badly and everyone seemed to be out of stock. Enter SV Cycle Sport to save the day! Ordering off of their website was super easy and they're offering curbside pickup. I initially opted for curbside pickup then unexpectedly needed it shipped. They were super accommodating and helped me switch over to the shipping option quickly. They shipped it the next day and I had the trainer to me in no time. Also nice - if they're our of stock of something on their website, you can call and they may have it at their sister store on 41st. In which case you can pick up there or they can get it to Scotts Valley for you. So thankful for how easy they made everything and so glad to have supported a local business instead of Amazoning myself a trainer. I was referred to SV Cyclesport by a friend, needed to have the front brakes serviced (bled) on my mountain bike. Went to pick up the bike and the rear brake was locked up, the shop stored the bike outside in the blistering heat with direct sun light causing the rear caliper components to swell up and fail. The shop took no responsibility and accountability even though everything worked fine when dropping off. The statement of "they're old and you need to replace them anyway" is BS. I particularly like the shops touch that "it will be an expensive fix" and "you need to have this repaired before we give the bike back to you" a nice example of outstanding customer service. Now I have a bike with even more problems, I advise folks to stay away from their service dept due to these predatory practices. read more

Specialized has a looong history of frivolous law suits and they cancelled about 500 customers' orders a few years ago when Mike's Bikes refused to sell to them. I've been looking for a hardtail that fits me for a long time bewteen the SC Chameleon and Spesh FUSE COMP 29. Already own multiples of the two brands in full suspension with good experience. They actually had the right size FUSE COMP 29 in red that was gorgeous so went in a flash to pick it up. Kai was great over the phone and in person. He was super helpful and the shop had it prepped really quickly and out the door. The only thing was that I noticed somehow the Rockshox fork air valve cover was missing after getting home. Couldn't tell if it was never put back on after the prepping of the bike or somehow it came off while transporting it home. Called and they said it was put back on and don't see one in the shop but if they find an extra will contact me. Well, hopefully they can send me one either through Specialized or something. I didn't have a good experience here. I came in here because my MTB dropper seatpost cable snapped and have it repaired. Additionally, I also ask if they can advise me on why my gear is not shifting as smoothly. They asked that I wait outside for 30mins. About 30-40mins later, they fixed my cable for $39 (including a new cable), which I'm happy with. However, they also made the adjustment to both my rear derailleur and headset and charge me $30. I think it was a little expensive for this adjustment and wish that they would tell me the price before making the adjustment. I took the bike for a spin in the parking lot, the gear shifts smoothly, but they didn't reset my dropper post. They did reset for me when I bring the bike back in. What I was most unhappy with is trying to ask questions regarding maintenance and what other services I need for my bike. I felt very rush and didn't get a good understand. Maybe this has to do with the high volume that they been getting due to COVID. Overall, I'm happy they're able to fix my bike. I do wish they take the time to provide better customer service. read more

I came to this store because it had the bike I wanted in stock and wasn't too far from the Bay. Quickly paid for the bike and agreed to have them assemble it for pick-up. The cashier said it'd be done either by the end of the day (it was 12:30 at the time) or the next morning The next day in the afternoon, I didn't hear anything, so I texted their number. They replied saying to assemble a bike, it takes 2-3 days. I don't mind waiting 3 days, but when you tell me the next morning, I expect it soon. At around 4:00pm, someone called me saying it was done. Not a big deal, but there's a mismatch of info between the employees and mechanic I picked up the bike the next day. I asked the cashier if there was any kind of warranty. I think we get 30 days of any basic repairs/adjustments? I'm not even sure and there's no info on the receipt or website. I test rode the bike in the parking lot, but this was my first proper mountain bike, so I wasn't really sure what to look for After taking the bike and biking around more with it elsewhere, I noticed issues with the gears. It'd shift to different speeds on it's own. The 2nd issue were the brakes - the lever needed to be pressed quite hard to stop quicker. They told me they can do small adjustments if I brought the bike there but I didn't feel like driving out there again. We just tried making the adjustments at home Seeing how hard it is find bikes nowadays, I'd still go back to the store. I reserved a new Specialized '19 Stumpjumper 29r Carbon demo from SVCS and had an awesome experience! The shop was busy but a salesperson was quick to acknowledge me and send me to the right person for demos. The tech threw my pedals on and set the bike up for my size and riding style, including the fork and rear shock, and gave me a few pointers on how to maximize the bike's performance. We went there to get a tube replacement for my son's bike. When we left there the chain came off while he was testing it in the parking lot. We went back in, the put the chain back on. The same thing happened. We went back in and they said it would be another $25 because the derailer was bent (it wasn't bent when we went in there). So they bent the derailer while changing the tube and then charged us for it. We won't be back. read more

SVC did a great job on my drivetrain upgrade. They were the 10th and last bike shop I visited in trying to do so. I meet with an associate there (who turned out to be Andrew the owner) that took the time to answer all my dumb questions and let me take many bikes on a test drive. I sent him the email I received from Specialized on what the best components were that would work. He took that info, went to his stock, verified it would work before having me come back to drop it off. I dropped the bike off on the following Monday and was told I could p/u Tuesday most likely. I really appreciated him taking the time and proving his theory that the components would work. The other 9 bike shops either weren't sure, didn't want to take the time to prove their theory, or tried to up sell me on a bunch of parts upward of a $1000 that I didn't need. I was given Friday off unexpectedly so I called to see if maybe my bike was ready so I could go on a ride and test out the new drivetrain. I was told it wasn't and wont be ready till next week. Then 1.5 hours later I got a call saying it was done. I really appreciated them doing the work early so I could get a ride in. When I p/u it was perfect. All the gears were shifting smooth and everything worked well. Really appreciate the customer service, techs in the tech shop, and overall good experience. During the pandemic we have become accustomed to waiting. My latest waiting game involves a $6500 e-bike purchased here last fall (also bought one for my wife the same day, putting our purchase price at just over $11k. I loved the bike and proceeded immediately to put about 150 miles a week on it until one day it abruptly stopped shifting. After a few days of "investigation" they came back with the very same diagnosis I had presented to them. "The shifter is 'broken'"... replacement parts were estimated to take 3 weeks. Then they revised it to 3 months. Then they went silent *** No loaner. No rental. No backup plan. I've since seen a few nice used pickup trucks I could have bought with that money. read more
