While with all other brow places, it's a struggle to make them not go too thin, Natasha said she is gonna make it so my eyebrows have a chance to fill back in and work with the natural shape. I've been battling with my eyebrows since I was about twelve. They've been super overplucked, tweezed, waxed, you name it. One day, I got sick of tweezing and decided I was going to get them cleaned up professionally, and wanted to try threading. I also had overplucked my eyebrows due to stress and decided that enough was enough. Natasha got great reviews and is just a block away, so I thought I'd give her a try. I was really impressed. Like everyone says, her approach can be off-putting to some. She expects you to regularly come to her, and her only. Her method is unique and it seems like it takes months to really start looking good. I just had my second session with her and it was tough to not tweeze for a month. I've been getting my eyebrows/upper lip/hairline threaded by a salon in SF for several years but after moving down to South Bay, decided to give this salon a try with a Full Face Threading. Apparently she invented her own method of threading but it feels very similar to others. One of my biggest pet peeves is that I have a lot of baby hairs that grow out that I like to get cleaned up via threading, which my old salon has always been able to do. But Natasha says she doesn't do this and didn't touch my hairline. She also refused to thread my chin because my hairs were too fine but when I went home to look, there clearly were hairs there that were noticeable. So I wasted $$ buying the full face option since she only did eyebrows and upper lip but skipped the sides, chin and hairline. She has her own technique to get your eyebrows growing and looking fuller and more natural. Not to mention, the threading feels almost painless! Wow, I don't understand the negative reviews. I've been a customer of Natasha since 2007 and have never felt so taken care of in the brow department as I have in these last several years. She keeps my brows clean and natural looking - always following their natural shape, never making them thin or unnatural. She's even easier to schedule now with her calendar being available to book directly online. She also accepts credit cards via Square. I will preface this review with the fact that Natasha's method is not for everyone. You have to be patient. She advocates a fuller, natural brow which requires "training" the hairs to grow into the right shape. I have very sparse and thin brows and usually just pluck once every other week to tidy up but sometimes I prefer the clean lines you can only get from waxing/threading so I got the Groupon. After the first appointment, not much was changed in the appearance of my brows and the shape didn't look that clean either. Mind you, I really only have a few thin, stray hairs (even after weeks of no plucking) and it seemed like she left some of them in place. I was instructed not to pluck until I see her in 4 weeks. Honestly, I wasn't that impressed but decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and try her method. So rinse and repeat x 2. Now that I've seen her 3 times, I will say that although my brows are still thin and relatively sparse (despite Latisse and castor oil), the shape seems to be a little fuller. Natasha also did acknowledge that my brows just seem to be sparse despite no plucking in between sessions and that's just something I'm going to have to accept. I'm giving her 4 stars because at least my brows are a little fuller as opposed to going to the usual threading salon and just cleaning up around my thin brows without giving them a chance to grow in. Not that there's anything wrong with that but like I said, this isn't the place for you if you just want a one-and-done threading session. I'm saving the last star to see how my brows turn out after a few more sessions, which are now 6 weeks apart. read more

This was my first experience with threading. I happened to find Natasha just by doing a search. I left her a message and she called me back right away. She was able to squeeze me in the same day-she 's not always in the spa. Spoolmerottenspa.com needs to be updated often with Natasha's schedule. It was pretty easy to find and once I got in there, Natasha was super friendly and made me very comfortable. It was quick and painless, and it's much cheaper than waxing. The only thing that happened to me is that I had a break out with little bumps over my lip but that happens when I wax too. Natasha is also a pro Mac Artist in SF. Came in for my very first time today. I got my eyebrows and my upper lip for $18. Which I think is a great deal considering I used to get only my eyebrows done at the Benefit brow bar for $20 ( I would also break out horribly from the wax). So I asked a close friend where she went to get her eyebrows done, and she referred me over to Natasha, whom she has been going to for some time now. I figured I'd give her a shot. Prior to this, I had never had my eyebrows or upper lip threaded. I was a little intimidated cause I thought it would hurt. I arrived to my appointment and was promptly greeted by Natasha. I arrived early so she let me know I'd have to wait, which was no problem. She shortly brought me back and I explained to her that I like my eyebrows thick, and I wanted to continue to let them grow out, but clean them up. She began to tell me that it's a process that requires patience. We need to let the hairs grow and fill the bald areas. She began on my eyebrows and started to tell me about her experience. Which is comforting because I like to know that the person I'm trusting my eyebrows with knows what she's doing. I was NOT disappointed. I am in love with my eyebrows. I've always been very meticulous about my brows as I am middle eastern with thick arched brows. I've typically shaped my brows myself by plucking but finally decided to try to go professional a couple years ago and was horrified by the results. My brows didn't match and I was spending 10 minutes every morning just filling them with pencil and powder, ultimately making them look fake and overdone. I finally found Natasha in February 2009 and she assured me that if I laid off the tweezers and came in every 2 - 3 weeks at first for a couple months and then every 3 - 4 weeks thereafter, that she would help me grow them back in and shape them. I have been trekking down from San Francisco to Mountain View religiously for the past 9 months now and could not be more ecstatic about the results. I've got clean, thick, symmetrical and arched brows that don't need pencil or powder. So in case you haven't picked up by now - I would recommend Natasha and Spool Me Rotten in a heartbeat. This was my first experience threating. When I got there the smell was awful but I was trying to deal with it. What I did not like was that Natasha basically just cleans your eyebrows she does not give any form or shape to it, she works with the natural shape of them and maybe that's OK if you like the natural shape of your eyebrows but that's not my case. Also, she likes to leave your eyebrows grow fuller and I like mine to be more on the thinner side. So for me this is not the place to go. Thankfully I just wasted $8 read more

I've had threading done for about 2 years now, and I've had good experiences and some bad ones where the shaping is bad. Natasha is very nice, quick, but not painful like other places. This was my first time going but I plan to go back. I can't say yet whether I will like the shape, since she just did a cleanup this time, but I will keep going and see what happens! She has been doing this for 19 years so I will trust her judgement. We have the same idea about brows - natural look is best. She wants to follow my natural line, not create arches, etc that aren't my natural shape. Also, you can't beat the price! The only thing I didn't like is that she did not brush the pulled hairs off of my face, so I drove away with little hairs falling into my eyes which was irritating for a bit. Natasha was the best I've found anywhere! I have moved to LA now and have tried (and failed) to find anyone that does near the job she did. The place is a hole in the wall in downtown Mountain View, but if you can look past that, it's totally worth it. My eyebrows had gotten way out of hand from me trying to do them myself and Natasha was able to get them looking really good and even again. Prices are reasonable too. So I live in Manhattan where you can literally get your eyebrows threaded on every corner! I'm here visiting for the summer and was in terrible need of some eyebrow maintenance. I read a few of Natasha's reviews that said she doesn't shape eyebrows...I thought that was strange but figured I would give it a shot. I am SO glad I did! After my first visit I was on the fence when I left Natasha with stray hairs and still feeling bushy, but now after my second visit, I totally get it. My eyebrows needed to get back to their natural shape and all this time it is quite obvious that everyone else has been over threading my brows! I really need to go a few more times (unfortunately I am heading back to NYC soon) to really get the full effect but I like where these eyebrows are headed! Although I've only been to Natasha at her old place near Castro St (which I guess was a while ago since she's now moved?) I just feel the need to write her a review. I went to her for my very first threading experience because of the good reviews she got on yelp regarding her painless technique. Ya, it's true, it was a painless experience... But right off the bat her personality was a turn off. I totally agree with a handful of the yelpers here who said she acted like she knew everything. She went on to explain how her technique was like no other because she allows the brow hairs to naturally grow and take shape and so it was important to come get threaded every 2 weeks because if you don't you miss the point of training/shaping it correctly...blah blah. So I believed her, and went pretty religiously until I finally realized...my brows still looked the exact same as when I first came in! (And mind you, I was trying to grow them out). I was really disappointed and erked by her telling me in the end 'well that's just the way your brows are.' Uhhh ok!! AND she cut me big time the last time I went which left a mark for a good while. Natasha is absolutely fantastic. From the appointment booking to the threading to the facial, she was professional, knowledgeable, and gracious. I made the appointment two weeks in advance and someone was nice enough to give me a reminder two days prior. You won't get that with any $45 facial in a random Asian nail salon. She and her assistant speak fluent English, also something you would not find in said nail salons. She subleases small room in a suite w/ some sort of a day spa run by Chinese people. The room is small but it serves its purpose and at her prices, I am not complaining. Since she is only here 3 days out of the week, she doesn't take walk-ins but she can be flexible with the appointment times when it is not so busy. When I contacted her by cell, she/her assistant returned my calls within one day if not the same day and her voicemail is updated constantly to tell you what days she will be available in Mountain View. Don't be afraid to ask questions - she is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to makeup firstly, b/c she is also a MAC makeup artist and is in charge of finding out about different product lines (likes: MAC, Bare Escentuals, Shu Uemura, Kiehls; hates: Estee Lauder, Clinique, Lancome). She told me she works in the MAC in Japantown. I got my eyebrows threaded and they look great. Like the user above me, I too have thin ends. Didn't mention anything about them but asked if I ever had any scarring there. I didn't get my upper lip threaded as I do that myself but if you go only to get your upper lip done, swab on some orajel or other 10% benzocaine cream/gel about 15 minutes prior to it and it will numb you up nicely; not completely painfree but noticeably more tolerable. For eyes, I've never really had a lot of pain from most of my threaders so either I'm lucky or my nerve endings are damaged, whatever - don't put topical analgesics on your eyes! Anyway, she commented me on my nice natural shape and I told her that I mostly just pluck and trim so she gave me a good piece of advice: "Don't trim your brows too low or they will start sticking up." Makes sense since if you have long hair, it does spring up when you take length off of it. Also, she will ask you to hold your skin tight at certain points. I don't know if her assistant does this when she's there (it's her cousin apparently but she left early today) but all threaders do that and it's not considered unprofessional unless you're paying some garish price for places with ambiance and Perrier w/ lemon slices. At the very least, it will hurt less. I asked her about waxing and she informed me that she uses the natural stuff containing lavender and other things. Will try and report back! She does Ayuravedic facials and most if not all of her products contain some botanicals. I haven't gotten many facials but she did ask me how often I did it and went through it step by step with me: steaming, cleansing, microderm abrasion, extractions, [I think something happened here but I don't even remember], seaweed mud masque (burns a bit but it's a good burning), massage w/ gel to close up the pores. Of course she told me what types of products she was using on my face, how, and why but I really don't remember them all. She was also careful and told me to tell her if I was getting irritated; apparently at one point, my nose was turning very red but I didn't feel anything. Afterwards, she warned me that I should not touch my skin much (risk breaking out in whiteheads but hell, I couldn't help but run my finger past my cheek at least once b/c it was so soft and yummy-smelling!) and to forego the facial skin routine tonight in lieu of my skin being sensitive - wash w/ cold water and no moisturizers. The whole appointment lasted about an hour and the two services came out to $57. I gave her $61 b/c I had absolutely no physical cash on me and I will give her a bigger tip when I come back in 3 weeks =) Note: Does take credit cards but I think it's run by the Chinese people who run the day spa and there is a surcharge. I don't quite remember so call ahead and ask. Also, she does a referral program so references = free brow threading. I will try her waxing and elemental nature back treatment next as well as going back for a brow upkeep. Seriously though, I cannot shower enough praise on this woman. If you are not familiar w/ the location, it's in downtown Mountain View so there is a lot of parking. From Dana Street Brewing, just keep walking away from Castro St. and turn the corner, go up the handicap ramp, walk in the door and down the hall to the glass door w/ the screen behind it and ask for Natasha since some Chinese woman will probably be near to greet you. read more

I put up with the "lecture" everyone talks about the first time - I just thought "okay, let's see what she's got" and gave her the benefit of the doubt. I have to say she is rather condescending and does not consult or listen to what you have to say. She was really gentle the first time and the experience was ok. Well, yesterday was my second visit and I swear she was ANGRY with me!?? Was it because I asked if she was the same person from last time - she seemed offended that I asked and stated that she "had no makeup on." Nothing personal, girly, wow! She was really aggressive with her threading this time, so much so that I stopped her mid! She said "you can't grow them this long." What?? She had told me to "wait as long as I can to come in next time" so I can grow my, in her opinion, thin brows! AND, it should never hurt that bad no matter! WHEN I WASHED MY FACE LAST NIGHT I REALIZED I HAD BLACK AND BLUE POCK MARKS ON MY UPPER LIP AND ON THE CORNER OF MY EYEBROWS!!! SHE ACTUALLY BRUISED ME!! WTF!!! i found natasha on yelp and started going about 3 months ago. this is definitely a no frills, get in and get out experience. let me caveat that i only go for threading - eyebrows and upper lip. i like natasha's online scheduling system. very efficient. natasha's style is definitely to shape the brow in a natural way, not to make it too rigid, which i like. you do have to help her hold your lids down, etc. but its typical of any threading place. pricing is very reasonable. she's fast and does a good job. if you are looking for a shi shi experience, this is not it so you need to set your expectations. read more
