There is one in the…read morefall, but it's not as big because most of the vendors for the fall festival are Kentucky Proud. I remember going to the Berea Craft Festival a few times as a kid. I remember watching as the artists did their craft and art demonstrations. I specifically remember watching the candle maker dip a string in hot wax and creating a handmade candle. As a small child, I had no idea that was how candles were made. I was amazed. Finally, yesterday I went back to summer The Berea Craft Festival. My husband thought that it would be downtown, but it's not. We pulled up downtown and it wasn't the scenery that I remembered. I remembered it being in a heavily wooded area. So, I pulled up the event listing on Facebook and found the actual address, which was 11 minutes from downtown. As we pulled up, the first parking area was far from the festival, so there were a few shuttles. Most people were walking via the Indian Fort Trail, which is a heavily wooded and shaded walking trail that leads to the festival area. There is a closer parking area, right at the entrance, but it's heavily congested. So, if you have the time and energy, park at the first lot and walk the trail. The admission is $6 per person. Seniors get in at a $5 rate. If the admission fee deters you, I'd recommend checking out the Lexington Woodland Arts Fair in Lexington, it's very similar to this festival, but it's free. A big difference in the two festivals is that you will find several art demonstrations here. Although I didn't see a candlemaker this year, I watched a blacksmith at work and woodworker making art with a manual carving machine. The area within the festival this year is muddy. They laid down a ton of hay, but my shoes still got very muddy, so don't wear flip-flops or good shoes. I don't consider myself very artsy, but I enjoy window shopping, as I did here. I walked away with $5 fresh squeezed lemonade and artisan cheese.

Now there is some reliable, but unscientific, data to prove that people came from all over the world to downtown London over the weekend to participate in one of the Southeast's premier fall festivals. Festival organizers conducted a poll Saturday night and found less than half of the visitors were from the local area. Festival organizer Rodney Hendrickson, with the London-Laurel County Tourist Commission said they found only 20% were from Laurel County. 44% were from other counties in Kentucky and 29% were from 14 other states. The furthest away being Washington, Idaho and Montana. Hendrickson said pollsters found people there from other countries, including a couple from Belgium, a lady from Belize and a group from Canada that comes every year. Preliminary figures indicate the 2016 World Chicken Festival set records in both attendance and revenue, driven in large part by good weather and increased sponsorships that enabled the festival to bring in a big-time entertainer like Bret Michaels on Saturday night. London Mayor Troy Rudder said this year's festival was a "game changer."

Today was my second time visiting the Woodland Art Fair. It's become one of my favorite art shows,…read morein part due to their rules. Per their website, every piece must be original and made by the artist, who's present at the show. They don't allow MLM products or vendors selling soaps, lotions, or candles, which makes it feel more like an actual art fair. No shade to candlemakers. There's a great selection of food trucks and drinks, including beer, cider, wine, mead, and non-alcoholic options. I appreciated how the beverage vendors were spaced out throughout the event. It made getting a drink easy and convenient. It's a huge fair with hundreds of booths. I ate the mac & cheese bowl from a BBQ food truck. It was tasty but lukewarm. My companion had a corn dog and was disappointed with it so he helped out with my food. Dog are welcome at this fair, and there were so many, which - for me -made the experience even better. We found free parking about 4 blocks from the event, which is always a bonus. Lexington is doing art fairs right. Louisville could definitely take a few notes!!

"THE HITCHING POST" This is a work/vacation that me and…read moremy guys all look forward to each year. We all suffered a horrible loss last year just after the event. We lost one of the owners of the land we set up our big red and white tent at. We will love and miss you forever TEDDY H, you touched our lives in a very special way that none of us will ever forget my friend. We also are suffering the loss of one of our friend/family member that set up with us a few weeks ago, and as Teddy, Tommy H. will always be loved, remembered and missed. These are two men that can never be replaced in our hearts. On the brighter side we will be at our normal spot under the big red and white tent close to the road. Now the task of making us all laugh and to have a great time will be left up to Jacob ( the other owner) and his sons who are all SUPER awesome. If you have not been there you must come. The whole town of Preston KY. will welcome you. The flea market areas, the front and back yards of every home, the edge of the road are all filled with vendors selling, produce, all types of equipment, perfume, appliances, wheels & tires, guns & ammo and much more. Did I mention the carnival style food vendors but especially the at "THE HITCHING POST" the Amish food (FISH or STEAK SANDWICH and THE WORLD FAMOUS FRIED STRAWBERRY AND CREAM PIES). There is ample parking ( 10 acres at "THE HITCHING POST" where we set up).

My parents always go on Thursday, which is the first day of the fest. Not all of the vendors are out by opening day, so they usually go back on Saturday or Sunday. It always takes place on the third weekend of October, every year. I went on Sunday this year. I've been to this annual downtown Mount Sterling, KY festival more times than I can count. My favorite things are the people watching and the food. I liked that the food vendors had their health score posted. I think they have music and more of the traditional festival activities, but for the most part it's mainly craft and decor vendors. It's a step up from flea market garb, but the prices and items are comparable to the things and deals that you can find at flea markets. Be prepared to pay $10 to park. All of the curbside parking is blocked off and all of the businesses open up their lots for the a fee.

The fried bologna sandwich is made to order with toppings of your choice. My husband and I shared one and also had the chicken salad on croissant. The chicken was creamy and quite good. (They also serve ice cream.) The staff in the cafe and the shop are welcoming and nice. There is plenty of parking in the beautiful tree lined lot. Outdoor rocking chairs are a nice touch. The restrooms are upscale, lovely and clean. Overall, great stop.

I'm definitely a fan…read more I'd heard from friends that Crave is a super fun event and I'm glad it worked out with my schedule this year that I was finally able to go! Out at Masterson Station, parking is free, but it is $8 for admission which I thought was a little steep for this event. Granted there was live music and games for kids set up- I think even paying 4 or 5 dollars would seem more reasonable to me. We were given a map of the festival with our tickets which listed all the events for both days and showed the general areas (zone 1, zone 2, etc) in which the different food vendors were located. In order to get food from the festival you need to buy crave dollars which are dollar for dollar. The booth suggest that each adult would need about $30, but my boyfriend and I had more than enough food for $15 each. We did a lap around the fairgrounds first to survey our options & see what there was to avoid making any hasty decisions. I realize this sounds obvious but I really liked how you were able to sample a lot of different foods from a variety of places. Especially if you come with an eating-partner, you can get a lot of things and split them to really increase the items you're able to try. Loved this event and think it will continue to grow every year! One thing I'd like to see is more stations for water as it was pretty hot out- I only saw one ant it was when we were leaving. I would suggest doing what we did to avoid long lines and crowds- make it a lunch/dinner and go around 3:30/4- by the time we left at 7 it was getting crazy packed. All in all a very fun time!
