At 1:00 on a weekday, this place was rockin'. So small, in a "blink and you'll miss it" town, Spoonies dished it out. Constant turn over, good, friendly service. Even a group of 8 golfers stopped in. There were locals, bikers & us. We'd heard about the famous tenderloin sandwich and that's why we were there. We ordered a "split" -- they take their 18-24" tenderloin, cut the monster in half, and for an added $1 you get 2 buns and all the fixin's. It was fun to get a good old Midwestern tenderloin sandwich. It was piping hot and way too much to eat unless you can take a go box. Fresh tasty onion, dill pickles and real tomatoes. This is Marc's favorite place and just had to show it off to his kids as the tenderloins are huge and I mean huge.....I will admit, they were good. We placed a takeout order on a Wednesday night and it was packed! Tons of people sitting at the bar enjoying drinks, which was a good sign. My girlfriend and I went to pick it up at the time they said it would be ready, but they said we'd have to wait a few minutes when we arrived, which we were fine with. About 10 minutes went by before we noticed a blank plastic bag at the other end of the bar. A few more minutes went by before the bartender picked up that bag and brought it to us- it turns out our food had been sitting for a few minutes. When we brought it home, everything was super soggy from sitting in styrofoam containers. The tenderloin was excellent- perfectly breaded and enough to feed an entire family for at least 2 meals. They give you plenty of veggies (lettuce, tomato, onion) if that's your kind of thing, I stuck to just putting ketchup on mine and it was fine. I ordered the Philly Steak Wrap and fries. The wrap was tasty- I've never had a philly cheesesteak with mushrooms, but they actually work in this wrap. I was able to save the other half for later, and it heated up nicely the next day. The fries were the most disappointing thing. When I opened them they were freezing cold and limp, with no crisp at all. If I had an airfryer I could have salvaged them, but alas, I resorted to lots of ketchup to get them down. I would love to return to this place, but next time I'll probably just eat inside and enjoy a few drinks. It wouldn't be fair to totally bash this place based on takeout because the experience is optimized for dine-in. read more

Yesterday, I decided to visit the Legendary Spoonies at 103 N 3rd St. London Mills IL. (It's about time) An hour and a half drive from Bloomington. This town is truly not close to anything. Literally no cell reception for Sprint. Lol, never seen that before. I've mourned the lost of my favorite Village Grill for over a year. I can say I have a new love now. This breaded pork tenderloin is as good or maybe better than VG. It's resting on their new 12 inch plate with a large size bun that is dwarfed. The pork was moist and tender with an excellent thickness throughout. The breading was even with nice flavor to compliment each bite. No thin spots or crisp over cooked parts and no greasy taste. 5/5 This small western Illinois farming community is home to 500 people and an excellent BPT. You know it's small when you see a guy on a bicycle casually talking to a guy in a pickup on Main St at the main intersection in town. I arrived about 4pm Thursday afternoon to an almost empty restaurant. I told the waitress I was here for the tenderloin. She met me at the table with a smile. I mentioned I was part of a Facebook group and she instantly said Pursuing.... I've found it's nice to mention the group and all the reviews. Maybe they put their best foot forward to show off their prize and they know you're serious about your sandwich. She took my drink order asked politely what I wanted on it and if I would like fries. I replied that based on the pics I'd seen the tenderloin would be enough and I'd like extra pickles and onion on the side. In what seemed like only a few minutes out she came with the plate. Certainly everything I had expected based on the numerous excellent reviews here. It was incredible. She never let my drink get below half full without asking if I'd like more. The service was perfect. Stopping by the table to check at just the right times earned her a 40% tip. A few extra dollars when you experience excellent service is well worth it. Under $12 for an excellent BPT and a Coke. I was there about an hour as the dinner crowd slowly trickled in. Several more servers and customers just living the life, most getting tenderloins enjoying their day and one of the best BPT around. As I was leaving I felt a pull that I just wanted to stay in this perfect moment of near nirvana. The simple life of enjoying a good sandwich with good people. So if you are a true fan of the BPT then this place needs to be on your bucket list. I know it's a drive but I feel safe to say you won't be disappointed. read more

Yes it is just a bar, yes it is a drive from larger cities, but they serve some delicious food with a smile. The destination worthy breaded pork tenderloin exceeded expectations. With its enormous size you expect it to be dried out and flavor less, but that is not the case. The breading was packed with flavor and the pork was thicker which allowed it to stay juicy. What can I say about an excellent pork tenderloin sandwich as big as a hubcap! Fantastic! Make sure you have backup at the table when you include an order of fries! Beware!! Although they serve up one of the biggest (pretty good) tenderloins in the Midwest, the proprietor has chosen to be dishonest with pricing. When you open the menu, the prices are printed (overall, reasonable). The problem comes when you get the bill! First: The receipt they give you is NOT itemized. Nevertheless, doing the math, I could see the charges were too high. When I brought this to the attention of the server, she called the owner over. I was then informed they had to raise prices but haven't been able to get new menus printed. She told me there was a sign on the door to warn you. True. In fact, there are several pieces of paper taped to the door. The specific sheet of paper she spoke of looks rather old and is "dog eared". It is over a paragraph long and lacks any bold print. Very good!! Wife and I drive 48 miles and to try their food today for the first time. I ordered their tenderloin sandwich with a side order of fried coliflower. Wife ordered a cheese burger with a side salad. I had two bottles of beer and the wife had water. Our bill was $29 and we brought home enough left overs for 2 more meals.
